Some Days I Sound Like Such A Grinch!

November 14, 2012

Good morning.  The sun is shining, but it is a tad bit cool.  Not quite 40F yet.  Oh dear, the weather lady is talking about the new storm that is on it's way here.  It's looking like lots of rain, hearty winds and flooding just in time for Thanksgiving.  Goodie, goodie.

They're also showing the huge 80 ton tree that has been cut down and is on it's way to Rockefeller Center in New York.  There it will be set up and loaded down with a horrendously shameful amount of lights.  For the life of me, I cannot figure out why we have to kill a perfectly good tree, and waste so much electricity on such a huge tree in the name of holiday spirit.

Once all the lights are on the tree, you cannot see the tree.  All you can see is a blaze of lights.  To me, this is sinful.    Pouring all this electricity (and expense) into such a huge tree does not seem right when there are still so many people without electricity from Hurricane Sandy.  I'm not really a grinch, but I can't understand how such waste is supposed to bring hope to folks.  I'm all for a tree with lights, but a much smaller tree with not so many lights.

Such a nice surprise I got yesterday.  I must share it with you.  Pogo has been sneaking out to pee on his potty patch.  Whenever I checked it, it was dry so I'm thinking that he has just started this.  I discovered it because he sprinkled on the wee wee pad that I had on the floor in front of the potty patch.  Such a good boy!  Dare I get excited because he is learning?

I did not get a lot of sleep during the night, so I finally gave up and turned on my laptop.  The good part of this is that I designed, uploaded and ordered my Christmas cards.   I can't show my new card here just yet because I like it to be a surprise when I mail it out.

Now I have to work on my calendar and updating my address list.  Last night, I was able to get the rest of the November kit uploaded too.  Gosh, this burst of energy is scary.  I might even run the vacuum around later today.  Now that's scary!

I took some photos a couple of days ago to show some of the foliage that we still have.  The tree with yellow and green is at the front of my driveway.  The other tree is my fabulous Japanese Red Maple.  This one always puts on a spectacular color show every year.

Now I want to make some breakfast for Pogo and me.  Afterwards, I think I'll even start wrapping a few gifts and getting them boxed up for the mail.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Wow, that maple tree is simply beautiful. We finally got a bit of cool weather, had to put plants in a warmer place and boxes over those in the ground. We are about 15-10 degrees below normal for this time of year! Shocking, I know! Yeah for Pogo, good boy, he deserves a treat! LOL! Well, today is replace the tires on the vehicle day....groan...gonna be about $900. But I gotta be safe!! The insurance and taxes on the house are also due...and Christmas so there goes my savings stash to start over for next year! LOL! Like you, I am happy to still be able to work and fend for myself with a roof over my head and food in the pantry! Lots of others don't! Have a fabulous day! Chat more tomorrow! Hugs, Mat

I feel the same way about the waste of resources for a Christmas tree. Anytime I see an excess of money wasted I think of all the people that could have fed or provided with warm shelterl.
Your maple tree is gorgeous! I've always loved those and had just started to grow one "back home". We were right on the edge for being able to do it but it was protected from the sun anad wind and seemed to be doing pretty well.

You are practical and smart and I agree 100%. The distruction of that old, beautiful tree, that has survived all of these years just to be wasted on a months worth of materialistic celebration. A small tree or even a fake tree that could be reused year after year makes more sense.

I am impressed that you have completed your Christmas card and are already wrapping presents ... I need to go shopping. I am way behind, ugh!

I am surprised that you have so much color left, especially after the wind blasts from Sandy ... but, oh my, what a beautiful Japanese Maple. I am glad you were able to capture it with your camera before it turns into a bare skeleton of a tree.

And see, Pogo did in his own time, and now that he knows how convenient it is, he will probably opt for his indoor potty over the cold, snowy outdoor kind. Just in time :) My Izzi loves the cold and snow so I would probably never get her to use an indoor potty. But, I need to get her out for exercise every day anyway, so outside works fine for us. You have a wonderful day Edna ...

Gorgeous maple tree!
And what a good boy Pogo is! Are you sure it isn;t just a "mistake"by him? Will he really know to use his potty? LOL.
Hopefully he is the smart boy we think he can be.
May be you should try to get a little nap later today?
And it's a pity for the tree! It took so long to get so big and suddenly kabamm, it's over.
No, they should think of something else, why not make an artificial tree, that you can use over and over?
But... still have a nice day, ROFL.
