HAPPY HALLOWEEN

October 31, 2012

Good morning.  Gosh, just when we  thought Sandy was gone, the heavens roared and the rains came down again.  Pogo and I missed being caught in it by about five minutes.  I guess we'll have these lingering downpours every now and then until Sandy has faded completely away.

I hope none of you has been hit by the devastation that I am seeing on my TV.  One town got covered in six feet of water in just forty five minutes.  Can you imagine?  Forty five minutes?  So many folks have died, and ever so many have lost their homes and all their belongings.

My heart breaks for those folks who bore the brunt of this horrific storm.  I cannot imagine what's involved in cleaning up after all the damage, especially in places like New York City and New Jersey.  It's mind boggling, and makes me appreciate everyone and everything I have that much more.

Yesterday I tried (the magic word here is  "tried") to take some photos of Pogo in his Penguin suit.  I wanted to make sure it would fit for his trick or treating later today.  Well, let me tell you this was not such an easy task!

Pogo just was not thrilled about the idea of walking around in a penguin outfit.  Actually, he didn't even want to sit in it long enough for a photo.  He squirmed and turned around, laid down and rolled over, anything he could to make life difficult.

Finally, he stopped squirming and gave me his best impression of a camel.  You just gotta love this kid.

Pogo has already hidden the head to the costume in hopes of not having to wear it later.  He is one smart little cookie.  Gosh, I dread the thought of how he will behave when I stuff him into a carrier to take him on a plane.  I'll have to start practicing using the carrier a month early.  This kid surely keeps me busy!

Tonight will be a big night for Pogo.  He's never gone on a long broom ride, and tonight's the night we meet up with some old friends and fly around the world. It will good to see some of these old crones again.  Here's a layout I made showing Pogo and me as we head out on our trip.

Now I really must get busy here and get a few things done.  You know, the dishes, vacuuming, maybe some dusting, etc.  It's not my favorite chore, but someone has to do it.  Please stay safe wherever you are.  Till tomorrow, Y'all don't eat too much candy, and have a Happy Halloween.

Hugs, Edna B.

Sandy Is Winding Down Here

October 30, 2012

Good morning.  Wow, the yard looks like a war zone, but we came through this storm just fine.  There is all sorts of debris scattered about the yard, some from the trees, and some from "who knows where".  Part of our town lost power for a while yesterday, but it was not storm related.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed though, because it could still happen.  Almost nine million folks are still without power.

We'll still be getting lots of rain showers through Friday, but as long as they stay showers, we'll do fine as far as flooding is concerned.  We must have angels watching over us because there was just so much flooding up and down the whole coast.   Can you imagine what it will take to clean the water and debris from the subway tunnels?  And then of course, there's all the damage to the electrical components in the tunnels?  Oh my.

I've had the Weather channel on non-stop, and I just can't believe how widespread the storm damage is.  In my lifetime, there has never been any such storm.  In Atlantic City, (according to their mayor) there were 16 deaths.  I will keep watching to see if this figure is correct.  It could be that these were folks who would not leave their homes.  I would find it hard to leave my home, but oh what a price to pay.

Last night when I took Pogo out for his sprinkle, I was so delighted to see the moon.  There were soft light colored clouds traveling at a pretty good clip, and there was that big ole beautiful moon.  For some reason, I slept well after that.

I stumbled across a beautiful photography blog yesterday.  Karen at "Pieces Of Contentment" has some wonderful macro photography.  I emailed her with an inquiry about which lens she uses.  She replied that she uses the Raynox Macro Conversion Lens DCR-250.  I did a bit of research online, and finally ordered me one from Amazon.  I have high hopes of getting some great macro shots.

Kyra, you are right.  Yes, they are carnations.  Thank you.  Some days my brains get just a tad bit scrambled.  (did I actually say "tad bit"?  I should have said "usually".)   I just took a moment to go out and get the mail, and would you believe the sun is shining!!  Oh happy day.

I have a photo to share that I took a few days ago at work.  I was looking out the patio doors and saw this little fellow.  Of course I had to take a photo.  He's just so cute.

Before I leave you, I want to share something funny that I saw in this week's TV Guide.  Encore station had a movie scheduled for 8 pm last night.  It was Stephen King's "Storm Of The Century".  What a coincidence.  I also want to thank all of you for your wonderful thoughts and prayers for our safety.  It's so nice to know that you are there.

Ah well, now it's  time to think about making some lunch.  Pogo  wasn't too thrilled with his doggie breakfast food, so I'll have to find something a bit tastier.  Till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe if you're anywhere near this monster storm.

Hugs, Edna B.

Oh, Such Yucky Weather!

October 29, 2012

Good morning.  Well, I made it home just fine this morning.  The best way to describe the weather at the moment is "yucky!".  The rain started here yesterday afternoon, along with a bit of wind, and kept up all through the night.  At 6 a.m. there was a heavy fog everywhere, along with a bit of feisty wind.  The sky is just one big gray cloud as far as you can see.

I took a photo as I was slowing down for a traffic light to show you just how yucky it is.   Except for a rather strong "poof" of wind every now and then, the driving isn't too bad just yet.

Today we are expecting rain with winds 30-50 mph with occasional gusts over 70 mph.  And still, the storm is hundreds of miles away.  Imagine!  Some folks even put their trash out this morning for the collection trucks.  A lot of these barrels were already blown over when I passed them.  You would think that these folks could have waited for the trucks to get near, or just put the trash in the garage, shed or cellar till next week.  We will wait until we can see the truck, then take our barrel out to the sidewalk.

I'm watching the Weather channel and they are showing how this storm will be affecting Chicago.  They will be getting 25 foot waves!  Can you imagine?  This storm is at least 500 miles wide, and will be felt all the way up to Wisconsin.  Golllleeeee!

I tried calling daughter, Audrey, last night but could not get an answer.  I assumed that meant they had things shut off during the storm.  I will be trying her again this morning.  I just need to know that they are alright there.  Cheryl, talk about Boonies!  My daughter lives a quarter of a mile in from the road, and is surrounded by fields of corn, peanuts and soybeans.  (when they are growing)  Now, I call that the "Boonies"!

The Mrs got lots of beautiful flower bouquets for her birthday, and of course, I took a few photos..  This one is part of a bouquet that had lots of gorgeous orange chrysanthemums.  I'm posting it for Mandarin Orange Monday.  If you haven't checked out M,O.M., give yourself a photographic treat and stop in to see all the beautiful photos that have already been posted.

Well, that's my update for this morning.  Now I want to go watch for the trash collection truck.  If you're anywhere this storm, do stay warm and safe.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a great day.

Hugs, Edna B.

It's Sort Of Like The Calm Before The Storm

October 28, 2012

Good morning.  It's 10:15 a.m. and outdoors is cloudy with a little bit of wind.  I guess we can kiss all our beautiful Fall colors goodbye.  The light winds are bringing down flurries of colorful leaves everywhere.

At least, I am so thankful that this is not a snow storm.  We'd be buried in our homes!  I remember back in the seventies, we got a blizzard that dumped more than seven feet of snow in this yard.  Our doors were totally covered by the snow.  It was days before we could get outside, and I have to say one of the most fun weeks we ever had.

Michael and I had all our kids, plus a couple of the neighbor's kids, and plenty of food and blankets.  I don't remember us losing power for very long, but even so, we had a couple of fireplaces for an emergency.  After a whole week though, everyone was totally glad to get outdoors again.

I'm watching the Weather channel, and I'm amazed that this storm is going to be having quite an impact on the Great Lakes and the states surrounding those lakes.  I don't think I've ever seen anything the size of this storm.  It's even dumping tons of snow in some areas.  A friend of my daughter Audrey's (in  the Virginia/Carolina area near the mountains) is expecting around 50 inches of snow near where she lives.  Yipes!

Yesterday, Eddie got our generator set up and purring like a kitten.  I topped off my car's gas tank, and filled a five gallon container with gas for the generator.  Joe gathered up anything that could possible fly around the yard and put them all away in the shed.  Now we just have to bring in the hanging plants and my "welcome" plant stand.

I'm keeping in touch with my daughter Audrey in Virginia to make sure everyone there is okay.  Yesterday, they were all set and ready for whatever may happen.  NEWS FLASH - New York City Mass Transit to stop operations at 7 p.m. tonight.  Tunnels and bridges being closed as needed.  New York City is expecting some wicked flooding.

Sad to say, a lot of folks just aren't taking this storm very seriously.  Yesterday was a gorgeous day, and at the moment it's still quite nice outside.  (minus the sun)  By tonight though, the winds will be getting heavier and the rain will be starting.  I have to go to work tonight, so I'm hoping that the winds don't get too feisty until after I get back home in the morning.

Today I have a couple photos of another bird from the Mrs' backyard.  This one is a Northern Flicker hunting around for food.

The Mrs was telling me that years ago she had found a baby Flicker and brought it in the house to nurse it and raise it.  Once it was bigger and better, she let it go.  I did this when I was a kid with a ruby throated humming bird.  My dad built a huge cage for it, and once the little bird was healed, we let it go.

Actually, my brother and I were always bringing stray animals and critters home to be nursed back to health much to my mother's chagrin.   She drew the line though, at keeping our jars of bugs on the kitchen table while we ate.  The bugs had to stay outside.

Well now that I've chatted your ear off, I shall have another cup of coffee and play a bit with Pogo.  Folks, if you've anywhere near this storm, do take care and stay safe.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

We're Getting Ready For Sandy!

October 27, 2012

Good morning.  It's sunny and not too cool.  Rather perfect for an Autumn morning here in New England.  That's about to change soon though.  Hurricane Sandy is getting closer, and she's looking really fierce.  I keep the weather channel on most of the time so that I'm aware of any changes in the storm.

On my way home from work yesterday, I stopped at one store to buy more water and batteries.  Next I stopped at the hardware store and bought  two heavy outdoor electric cords for the generator.  Can you imagine?  Over $100 for two cords!  A bit of a surprise, but a very necessary item.

After I got home and hugged my Pogo, I took one of the dwarfs to the supermarket to do a bit of food shopping.  I also stopped at the automotive store to buy a new gas can.  Today, I will fill the can  with gas, and make sure that my car's gas tank is full.  Eddie will be by today to set up the generator and show Joe and me how to run it.

I dug out a cement block which I will be breaking into four smaller pieces.  Once the winds start up, I will have to tie one of these on each of Pogo's little feet when he goes out to sprinkle.  Otherwise, he will probably land two towns away on the wind.  lol.  (Just joking, I will not let the winds get him!)

As long as the basement doesn't flood, no trees hit the house, and we can keep the food from spoiling, we'll be okay.  I'm not worried about the heat.  We all have warm clothes and blankets.  My worst fears are for the cellar getting flooded again, and having trees crash down on to the roof.  I just don't want to go through this again.

I had such wonderful plans for this weekend, but they have been thwarted.  The storm takes preference right now.  I haven't seen a huge one like this for quite a while.  We New Englanders are a sturdy lot though, and we will manage somehow.

Yesterday, I took some photos through the Mrs' bedroom windows of the birds in the back yard.  They must know the storm's coming because they were scurrying around looking for food.  Here are pix of the some of the Robins.  There must have been a dozen of them in the yard.

Folks, after tomorrow, I'm not sure if I will be able to blog every day.  It will depend on the winds and the power outages that we are expecting.  I will do my best because this blog is my link to so many wonderful folks everywhere.  Meanwhile, if you are in the storm area, do take care and be safe.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.\\

Hurricane Sandy Is Heading Up Our Coastline

October 26, 2012

Good morning.  I did start a post yesterday, but was just not in a chatty mood.  I had gotten a great night's sleep for a change, but woke up in a wicked mood,  I'm not sure why I was so off kilter, but I thought it best not to try writing a post.

I went shopping in the afternoon to pick up some more new clothes for my daughter Laura.  Once a year, I try to pick out a whole new wardrobe for her.  When you live in a nursing facility, all your clothes and personal blankets go into a commercial washer and dryer.  Therefore they don't last too long.  I will have to go shopping again because her birthday is coming up real soon, and I want to find something pretty for her.  She will be 47 in another week.

It's still early, 4:55 a.m, and I'm watching the Weather Channel.  I'm waiting for the update on Hurricane Sandy.  This one is making me nervous, so I want to keep up on where it is heading.  We are on alert all the way up past Boston.  At the moment, heavy winds and flooding is being forecast for our part of New England.

My roses are still blooming and looking quite pretty.  I played a bit in Color Efex Pro 4 with a photo of a large pink rose, then edited the same photo in Photoshop for a comparison.  Each program has it's pros and cons depending on the photo you are working with.  The first photo was edited in PS, and the second photo was done in CEP4.

Today is a workday, and I will have to be getting ready soon.  I got the Mrs a new sweater and pant set, so I hope it fits her.  If it does, then I will hem up the pant legs for her.   Now I must start getting dressed and ready to leave.  I want to give Pogo his breakfast and have a cup of coffee before I leave.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Happy 95th Birthday "Mrs"

October 24, 2012

Good morning.  It's sunny with a few clouds, and today's temps will be around 58 to 60 degrees.  Not so bad for this time of year.  It looks like the weekend will be bringing cooler temperatures with it.  Not too cool though, mid fifties.  Still,  that's very seasonal.

Yesterday was a busy day.  I found out that Mediafire has changed the rules for the free accounts.  They are limited to around seven downloads a day, depending on the file size. (At least I think that's how it was explained to me.)   Well, that's not so good.  However, for just $18 a year, one can upgrade to a personal account and have almost unlimited downloads.  So that's what I did, I upgraded.

Next, I went online to see about upgrading my Photoshop to the newer version, PS6.  The directions for which parts to download and how to install everything were looking quite confusing to my fuzzy little brain, so I called Adobe instead and purchased the upgrade over the phone.  I asked for the upgrade to be on disk instead of downloading, and they said no problem.  I should have my new program in a week to ten days.

I also finished up a QP for the QP Challenge at Digiscrapstation.  I've included both sizes, 12x12 and 8x8 in the folder.  Enjoy.

Here's your download link:

Today is the Mrs' birthday.  She's 95 years young, and still quite chipper.  Woo Hoo!  Happy Birthday, "Mrs".  I know everyone is curious about what the Mrs looks like so here is the photo I took a couple of weeks ago.   She's looking very pretty with her new perm.

On my way home from work the other day, I stopped for a moment to photograph the little street that I go down just before I get home.  It's such a pretty street,  I tweaked it in Color Efex Pro 4, but I forget the filter I used.  It came out looking sort of like a colored pen drawing.

Aren't the Fall colors gorgeous?  This year the colors that are blazing everywhere are just awesome.  The first large tree as you turn on to this street is not showing in the photo, but it is a brilliant orange and red.

Today, I have another QP to finish up for another forum.  As soon as it is ready, I will get it posted here for you.  Then it will time to get busy on the November collab kit.  In between all this, I still have a few photo class assignments to work on.  I've gotten behind on them and now I need to get caught up.

I' also have to start planning for my trip to Florida early next March.  I'm hoping that the pet plane tickets haven't gone up much.  Can you imagine having to pay over $200 for a round trip ticket for a three and a half pound doggie?  And you still have to tuck his carrier under the seat in front of you!  Outrageous!

We could use my broom but there's no room on it for the luggage!  Hmmmm, now there's an idea for a new product.  A broom with a luggage compartment!  I wonder how much more difficult it would be to ride this new broom?  I wonder, would it be very expensive?  I'm really surprised that the
government hasn't slapped an excise tax on our brooms,!   Or when they will start requiring a special license to ride our brooms!  Such a dismal thought!

Ah well, now I'm going to mosy on over to the kitchen to see what Pogo and I will have for breakfast.  I'm thinking maybe we'll have some Corn Flakes. (Pogo's corn flakes are served along with regular doggie breakfast food.)   Mmmmm, that sounds like a good idea.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

EXTRA POST

October 23, 2012

PLEASE NOTE:  If anyone had a problem downloading any of our kit links, please TRY AGAIN.
I upgraded my account today, and you should have no problem downloading now.

Thank you for being patient, and have a great day.

This Is My Week For Fabulous Surprises!

October 23, 2012

Good morning.  Hmmm, I guess Pogo isn't very hungry this morning.  He just turned his little nose up at scrambled eggs.  Granted, there was no bacon on the plate.  Has no one ever told him that there are starving doggies in Ethiopia?  My mother always used to remind us kids of this predicament whenever we would not eat our food.  We would wrap up the offending food in a napkin and donate it to behind the trash can.  I'll have to keep checking behind our trash barrel.  This is one very smart doggie!

I do have good news to share this morning.  Yesterday afternoon, while Pogo and I were napping, the landscape goblins stopped by and decorated the entrance to my yard.  Gollee!  What a surprise I got when Pogo and I went out into the yard.  Gosh, it was just so pretty!

Seeing as how I was dressed in a long fuzzy bathrobe, I did not want to go out into the street to get front view photos.  So, I took these photos from inside the yard. It shouldn't be so hard to find my yard now in the dark.  Have a lookee.  The hanging plants are on either side of the entrance.

Of course, I have a pretty good idea who the landscape gremlins really are.  They probably look a lot like my daughter and son in law, Deanne and Eddie.  I would bet my paycheck on that!!  After a phone call, I knew I was right.  Thank you so much, Dee Dee and Eddie.  I love you guys!

After this lovely surprise, I sat at my laptop and wrote the article about life with my Pogo for the shelter.  I generously sprinkled photos throughout the article, and I think it came out okay.  If they accept it, I'll post it here after it appears in their newsletter. (Beginning of November)   I also made a new Halloween card for this year.  Phew!!  Talk about renewed energy!!

Today, I want to get a couple of things done around here.  I got a phone call last evening from a co-worker asking me to work for her tonight.  Of course I said "okay" and now I will have next Saturday night off.  Pretty good trade!

Now it's time for me to get dressed and start my day.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

It's Such Fun To Come Home!

October 22, 2012

Tis another beautiful day here in my little part of the world.  The sun is shining and it's not too cool.  Later, after I've had my nap, Pogo and I will go out for a while and do a couple of errands.  We want to enjoy this nice weather while we have it.

Boy oh boy, when I got home this morning, Pogo was so excited!  He came  running to me and jumped up so fast I almost lost my footing.  He curled in under my chin and gave a big sigh.  My little guy sure does know how to make you feel loved!

Today I want to work on the article for the animal shelter.  I've already set aside a batch of photos to sprinkle through it.  Now I just have to work on the writing.  I also want to get a couple more pictures framed so that I can get them hung in the den (in the main part of the house).  I've had some of them ready  to be hung for so long but just never got around to finishing the project.  Today seems like a good day for the job.

Also for today, I have the last two parts of our collab kit "Goth n Gore" for you.  I surely hope you're enjoying this fun kit.  Here's my preview and your download links.

http://www.mediafire.com/?zrnfw8mac6yd59d

http://www.mediafire.com/?fcas477ohsnpgeo

When you are finished downloading, hop on over to Su's website and pick up her two parts.  You also want to check on her previous posting because I do believe she added something else for you.  Here is Su's preview.

I also have another pretty flower for the Mandarin Orange Monday post.   Although it's another rose, I shot the photo from a different angle which is quite interesting.  I took this photo a few days ago while it was raining.  I love the look of raindrops on the flowers.

Now it's time to play with Pogo.  He's been curled up next to me waiting patiently for me to finish this post.  Gosh, he is just the best little doggie.  I'm off now.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous day.

I Love Surprises!

Ocdtober 21, 2012

Oh what a gorgeous morning!  Sunny and not too cool.  Perfect for this time of year.  I got home from work this morning only to find that my little Pogo had been sick during the night.  I knew yesteray that he wasn't feeling so well because his appetite was off.  Thank goodness his little beds are all quite big for him.  He had a case of the squirts during the night, and still had plenty of clean space left to curl up in.

This morning he is feeling so much better. (now that all the bad stuff got squirted out!)  He gobbled up his breakfast - dog food!  Maybe because it was ham and egg flavored?  I put a clean red hoodie on him, and now he is curled up next to me.  I'm in the middle of several loads of laundry.  One for Pogo's blankets and his Tigger, another for my work clothes, and one for Joe.  (He babysits for me and I do his laundry.  Fair trade.)

Yesterday I mentioned that I got a wonderful surprise in the mail on Friday.  It was an early birthday card from my friend Kyra, and inside it was a beautiful little angel pin.  What a wonderful "perk me up".  It put a fabulously huge smile on my face.  Thank you so much Kyra.  Here's a layout I made of the card and the angel pin to share with you.

For quite some time now, I've been trying to capture a photo of the birds as they begin to migrate South.  Up to now, I have not been in the right place at the right time and with a camera.  Yesterday, as I was sitting in my car at a traffic light, this flock flew over.  I grabbed my camera and was able to get at least one decent shot.  (through the windshield)

This morning, a flock of geese flew much lower overhead, but I was driving and could not pull over to get a photo.  Not to worry though, I'll just keep on trying.

During the afternoon yesterday, the gray clouds moved on by and the sun came out.  I noticed it peeking through my trees with lots of star rays so I got my camera and took a few photos.  This one came out the best.

Isn't this pretty?  Some times the beauty in nature just simply amazes me.  It's so awesome!  Every week, I learn something new about my camera.  Last week, I finally learned about the white balance and how to set it.  This photo was taken with the while balance set to "sunny".  For those who don't know, most all my trees are extremely tall evergreens, and my house is mostly surrounded by them.

Well, that's it for this morning.  The washing machine is calling to me.  "Put in the next load Woman!"  Yeeesh!  What a sassy machine!  So, till tomorrow folks, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Even With Clouds, The Sky Is Beautiful

October 20, 2012

This morning is cloudy, wet and warm.  About 2:45 this morning, the skies lit up with flashes of lightning.  About two minutes later, the crash, bang, boom of the thunder started up.  And then it was over as quickly as it started.  Most of the night it just quietly rained, letting up before daybreak.

The weatherman says that today will be in the low 70's with a 60 percent chance of rain.  The bright news is that it is supposed to sunny the next six days starting tomorrow.  Even with temps a bit lower, it will feel good to see lots of sunshine.

Yesterday was a really nice day at work.  The Mrs was in a very good mood, and was even happy to see Pogo.  The weather outside was cloudy, yet warm.  At one point, I had to go outside  for something and noticed that the sun was visible in the sky, but was hidden by so many gray clouds.  The clouds were moving rather quickly, and every now and then you could get a peek at the sun.

I grabbed my camera and took some photos of the sky.  Call me crazy, but it really is quite fascinating to watch.  I got some great shots of the sun behind the clouds, and some rather interesting cloud formations.

Next, the wind started up again, and was blowing all the leaves from the trees.  Here's a photo of the sky dotted with leaves.  This was not the easiest photo to get, but a lot of fun to try.

When I got home from work, there was a nice surprise waiting for me in the mail.  I will have to save that for tomorrow's post because I first want to photograph it so that I can share it here.  Around noon today, the president of the camera club (the one we don't belong to anymore) will be by to drop off my November entry photos.  This should be interesting.  I shall be on my best behavior.  I figure it is the club's loss not ours.

The shelter group where I adopted my Pogo from has asked me if I would write an article, complete with photos, about how it has been with Pogo in my life.  I will start the article later today because it have to send it to them before the end of next week.  If it comes out good, I'll post it here.

Now I think I shall mosey on over to the stove and see about cooking up some scrambled eggs and bacon for our breakfast.  This is one of Pogo's favorite meals.  For that matter, mine too!  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

My Little Guy Is Sooooo Handsome!

October 19, 2012

This morning started off quite rainy, but at the moment is taking a break from the rain.  Not to fear, it will start up again soon.  The weatherman says we can expect rain most of the day and night.  I don't mind though because the temps are in the 60's, so it is still fairly warm.

Pogo is here with me at work because we had no sitter this morning.  I'm not sure what happened, but I did not want to be late for work so I brought him with me.  Right now, he's curled up on his blanket, ignoring his breakfast.  Lately he doesn't seem to want to eat the doggie food.  Unfortunately for him, I am not cooking steak and bacon every day for him.

Yesterday, Pogo had his first trip to the groomer (with me, at least).  I was very worried about he would behave because he does not like the clippers, but he behaved very well.  So, for being such a good boy, I bought him a new hoodie.  A blue camo one this time.  Here's a photo of Pogo with his new "do" and his new hoodie.  Isn't he just the handsomest little fellow?

Last night I watched the season finals of two of my favorite shows.  The first one "American Bible Challenge" kept you on your toes the whole time.  It was such a close race, and the winner took home $100,000 for their favorite charity.  On "Project Runway" I was in for such a disappointment.  The designer that I was hoping would win, did not.  The winner was a total surprise to me.

Next week though, the new season of  "Project Runway All Stars" will begin.  This should keep me happy for the next few months.  I will have to watch for the new season of the Bible challenge show too.  I really enjoyed that one.

Now I need to get back into making photo art.  I really enjoyed it but lost interest when the external drive died and took my photos with it.   It's time to move on.  I also missed out on both of the photo walk days this month because I had to work.  That too, was a disappointment but there is always next year.

This year, I am taking the day off work on my birthday.  I will take Pogo and my camera and hop into my car and just drive.  Somewhere new where we can walk around and take some photos.  Next week, it will be the Mrs' birthday.  I'll have to find something nice for her.  After all, 95 is a quite a big deal.

Well, now it's time to start making the Mrs' breakfast.  She will be waking soon and my busy day will begin.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Pogo Goes To The Beauty Salon

October 18, 2012

Good morning.  This will have to be a short post because we have to leave soon for Pogo's appointment at the beauty salon.  This should be quite interesting, and I would not want to be the groomer.  Pogo is very squirmy and does not like to be touched with clippers or scissors.

After trying to program my new GPS, I gave up  and called Eddie (son in law) to ask if he could come with us this morning.  I'm not really sure about how to get to the groomers.  I bought my new GPS refurbished, and did not realized that the previous owner's information would still be in the machine.  It does not let me program it for my information.

I emailed the manufacturer with my problem, and they will hopefully get back to me today.  They said they had to wait three days after notifying the previous owner about removing his information from the GPS.  This is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard!  They should have made sure all the information was removed before re-selling the product.

I have to say though, it wouldn't be right if my toys behaved properly, now would it?  As much as I love all the new tecky toys, they don't seem to like me.  Even my new phone doesn't work here at home or when I go to work.  I'm kind of getting used to it.  The GPS on my phone worked great the first time I tried to use it, but after that it won't even turn on.

On a lighter note, here are a couple of photos of Pogo in his car seat when we are getting ready to go for a ride.  He loves the car seat, and is especially fond of going for rides.  You can see this in the second photo where he is howling for joy,  lol.

My daughter called to say that if anyone wants the Pet Ghost, and can't get it in there area, let us know.  She can pick it up and we'll mail it to you.  It cost $10. As of last night, there were still six or seven left on the store shelf.

Now it's time for me to get dressed and ready to leave.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Need To Get My Mojo Running!

October 17, 2012

Good afternoon.  It's a few minutes after noon, and I feel a lazy day coming on.  After a tossing and turning most of the night, I had a really nice sleep this morning.  Now I have to hustle a bit to get a few things done before Janet (daughter in law) comes over this after noon.

I really must go to the post office and mail some boxes of new clothes to my daughter Laura.  After that, I should start wrapping gifts and getting them into mail away cartons.  This will leave me free to start working on this year's Christmas card.  I have a few ideas for it but just not the right photo for it yet.

Andrea, my daughter got my Pet Ghost at the Stop & Shop supermarket in Brockton, MA.  However, she says it is also being advertised this week at CVS Pharmacy.  Hope this helps!

My photo for today is another of the Mrs' roses.  It's from the same plant as Monday's rose.  Every year, this little rose bush  hangs on to the very last minute before giving in to the cold winter weather.

Tomorrow morning, Pogo and I have to get up very early.  The groomer said that the sooner we get there, the sooner Pogo will be ready to come home.  I'll have to print out a photo today of what Pogo's hair looked like when I first got him so that the groomer will know what I want.

Now I think I'll take my gummy vitamins and get my mojo up and running.  Lots to do today.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Never Let The Dog Frost The Cake For You (Even If He Begs!)

October 16, 2012

Good morning to you on this sunny morning.  We're looking forward to temps in the upper 50's today with a chilly night in the upper 30's.  The weather man says that we will be getting more rain later this morning.  The rain has been coming in patches, at least giving us several hours of sunshine in between raindrops.

Have you ever let your furry kid help with the baking?  Well, I let Pogo help me make the birthday cake.  His job was to put the frosting in between the two layers of this heavenly tasting chocolate cake, and then on the top and sides.  This, however, turned out to be a lot trickier than we had thought.

The frosting kept sticking to his paws, and then when he tried to lick it off his paws it would get stuck all over his little face.  Finally though, he did get enough on the bottom layer and I put the top layer on top of that.  The top layer proved to be even more difficult for Pogo.  He would put a pawful of frosting onto the cake, but when he tried to spread it out it would rip up a chunk of cake with it.

Well, this went on all over the top of the cake.  Poor Pogo was getting frustrated with the frosting not spreading like it should and finally jumped right on top of it with all four paws to hold down the offending frosting so that he could put more on.  That did it!  Now the top layer of the cake split into three large chunks.  Yeesh!  We can fix that though.  We'll just fill in the large cracks with frosting.  Maybe.  Depends on whether or not the frosting will go into the cracks.

Eventually, one of the dwarfs came out to help Pogo with his frosting dilemma, and the (cake?) was finally finished.  After we all had a good laugh, I took a photo of the finished product.  I must say, it looks like a big whoopee pie with a cream and crumbles frosting.  I guess we won't be making any more birthday cakes.  It only takes fifteen minutes and a few bucks to drive to the market and buy one already decorated.  However, here's our masterpiece!

Have you ever seen such a sad looking cake?  I have to say that the birthday gal was quite gracious and said that it tasted wonderful.  You should have seen the look on her face and her adult kids' faces when they walked in and saw the cake.  Those kids actually started laughing!  Imagine!  Some people have no sense of humor!  The candle was a big hit though.  When you lit it, it played "Happy Birthday".

Next, let me show you the cutest Halloween gift that Dee Dee brought me a couple of days ago. It's my very own Pet Ghost.  Her name is Genevieve Ruffles, and she is Frighteningly Fun.  There is a clear opening on the side of the canister where Genevieve will appear and sing for you whenever you press on the top of the canister.  This is so cute!  I took a couple of photos to show you what it looks like.

That's it for today.  Now I have to call and make Pogo an appointment with the groomer.  His hair is beginning to get shaggy.  I know that most Yorkies have lots of shaggy hair, but I like Pogo's little face clean and his hair short.  He just looks so adorable this way.  I just would not want to be the groomer.  Pogo is very squirmy, and does not like you to touch his face, and he does not like hair clipping at all.  I'll probably get charged the same as for a big dog.  Ah well, that's the price of having the handsomest doggie in town.

I really need to get dressed now, and get a few things done around here.  When my lady dwarf gets home from work, I have promised to take her shopping so that she can pick out something pretty for her birthday.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Only He Can Paint Such A Beautiful Sky

October 15, 2012

Good morning on this fabulous Autumn day.  It was in the sixties all through the night, and today we will be enjoying temps in the 70's.  Oh my, I just love it!!!  Sometime today, Pogo and I will have to get outside and enjoy this gorgeous day.  Tomorrow will be wet and twenty degrees cooler.

We have been noticing a few meeses coming into the house lately.  This morning, I stopped at a store and bought one of those "plug in critter repellent" things that you just plug into the outlet and it is supposed to ward off all those unwanted critters.  We shall see.  If this works, I will buy more of them and scatter them about the house.

This week Eddie is going to come over and paint our number sign and part of one the stone posts at the front of my driveway with a bright neon color.  I'm hoping that this will help me find my driveway when I come home at night.  My driveway is tucked between trees and very tall hedges, and it is very hard to find in the dark.

Today, I have a rose for Mandarin Orange Monday.  I'll show the orange rose first, then I'll post the original flower.  It was actually a deep pink, but I tweaked it a bit to make it orange.

Today is also when Su and I will be posting Parts 3 & 4 of our October collab kit "Goth n Gore".  I surely hope you can have some fun with this kit.  Here is my preview and your download links.

Your download links:

When you have finished downloading, you'll want to hop on over to Su's website and pick up her two parts.  Su hasn't been feeling so well lately, so she will most likely post a bit later today.  While you're there, do take a moment to say thank you.  It is so very appreciated.  Here is Su's preview.  Doesn't this look awesome?

It's amazing how all our parts to the collab kits work so well  together.  When we start each month, all we share is the color palette, the logo and the theme.  We don't see what each other has made until it is time to post the kit on our blogs.  I must say, "Great minds think alike!"  We do make a great team.

Want to see how pretty the sky was this morning at 6:26?  Notice the white spot on the lower half on the right side (near the tree) of the photo?  That's either a star or a comet, not sure which.  Is this not a pretty sight to start your day?

Now I have to get busy and bake a cake.  It's one of the dwarfs' birthday, and she is also Pogo's daytime sitter.  I'll have to let Pogo help make the cake.  Hmmm, what can he help with?  I know.  He can read the directions to me.  That will be a big help.  (Doesn't everyone let their furry kids help with the cooking?)

That's it for today folks.  Gots to get this cute little butt of mine moving.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Big Big Birthday Coming Up Soon!

October 14, 2012

Brrrrrr!  The weatherman promised us a nice day today, but he's changed his mind since last night.  During the night the rains came, and it's still raining.  Even though the temps are supposed to get up into the high 60's, it feels damp and cold.  The sun might come out later today, but I'm not counting on it.  Tomorrow's forecast is for sunny and mid 70's.  Gosh, I hope so!

The Mrs' birthday is coming up in two weeks, and that's when I'll be posting her photo.  She'll be 95 years young, and still going strong.  I keep telling her that we'll have a big party when she turns 100.  That is, of course, if I'm still working there.  I'll be close to 8o years myself.  That will most certainly deserve a nice party!

Yesterday, I took some photos of Pogo while he was napping with his lime green Tweety Bird.  In the first photo, they are both having happy dreams.  Then I woke him to get him to look at the camera.  I know, bad mommy!

The blanket is a new one that I bought at Costco, sort of sage green and very furry.  My little guy just loves to cuddle up in fuzzy blankets.  I'm thinking of buying a few yards of acrylic furry blanket material, and making little blankets for each of his little beds.  He has three little beds.  One for our living room, one for out in the main part of the house, and one for Joe's bedroom.  (Joe is his night time baby sitter.)

Daughter in law, Janet, brought Pogo two beautiful presents.  One is a Halloween sweater, and the other is a penguin costume to wear for going trick or treating on Halloween.  These next couple of weeks, Pogo is going to be busy learning how to ride on the broomstick without falling off.  I'll probably have to put a little basket on the broom with a little safety belt.  Lordy, the things I do for this little guy!

Now I have to get busy and get the rest of the new collab kit uploaded.  Tomorrow, we'll be posting the next two parts for you.   After  that, it will be nap time for me.  Tonight is another work night.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

A Mouse In The House

October 13, 2012

Good morning.  It is quite chilly here.  35 degrees F.  The weather man says it will climb up to the mid 50's later today.  Tomorrow and Monday should be a regular heat wave with temps between 65 and 72 degrees.  Woo Hoo!!

Sorry about not posting yesterday, but there was no internet connection at work.  Plus I was busy all day.  The visiting nurse came in to  give Mrs her flu shot, and then the hairdresser came to give her a perm.  Two hours later, she was beautiful and happy.  Hmmmm, the hairdresser should maybe come every week?  (I know, I'm bad!)  I took a beautiful photo of Mrs, but I have to ask her permission before I can post it here.

On the way home from work, I stopped by the bank.  Then when I got home, I played with Pogo for a bit.  He gets so excited when I come back home from anywhere.  It's a super nice feeling.  After that, I took Joe (dwarf) to Walmart for a few groceries.  After putting things away, I took another of the dwarfs to a supermarket so that she could get her groceries.  Of course, I picked up a few more things too.  We do for each other.  That's how it's supposed to be.

Some folks don't know why I call my tenants dwarfs.  It started some years ago when I was explaining how the main part of my house is a sort of rooming house.  By renting out some of the rooms, I am able to pay the bills on the house.  It's a really big house. All the tenants used to be men, so it was sort of like Snow White and the seven dwarfs (counting Moo there were eight).  Referring to the guys as dwarfs also gives them privacy when I write about happenings here in the house.

I have a couple of photos to share this morning.  These were taken yesterday at work through a double layer of windows in the Mrs' kitchen.  The birds are feasting on the seed pods on the dried evening primrose plant stalks.

Now I'm off to get dressed and go check on the mouse situation in the main part of the house.  Yesterday, a mouse ran across the floor in the den, and drove Pogo crazy!  Eddie came over to take care of the situation.  Hopefully, the mice will move to someone else's house and leave us alone.  That's all for today.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Time To Start Up The Furnace

October 11, 2012

Good morning from my little part of  New England.  There's a definite chill in the air.  Today the service man  is coming to clean out our furnace so that we can turn on the heat.  It gets downright chilly at night!  Right now it's 45 degrees F, working its way up to 59 degrees.  Pogo and I were outside a little while ago, and it's still quite nice even tough we need sweaters.

At the moment, I'm watching an infomercial for the Ninja Cooking System.  It does look pretty interesting, and it's only $240.  But, if you buy it right now, it's only $200.  If I did cooked more, this might be a nice idea.

Yesterday I checked around for other camera clubs.  There are a couple that sound interesting that I might look into.  One of them does a lot of photo field trips, and teaches photo editing and how to use your camera at their meetings.  At least this is what their web site says.  It does sound pretty good.

Today, I should do a couple of errands, and then I really need to get busy and  get caught up on my computer projects.  After losing so many files, it's not so easy to get back in the mood to design.  But, I am working on it.  After all, it was just stuff.

I have an image to share this morning.  I keep this on my computer all the time.  It's a subject that is very near and dear to my heart.  If you, or anyone you know is considering getting a new furry friend, please do consider visiting your local shelters.  There are so many wonderful pets just waiting for a new forever family.  They really do need you.

This past Monday was World Cancer Day, and I had meant to post a candle here on my blog.  Somehow, I got sidetracked.  This is quite easy for me.  So, today I will post the candle with the hope that soon there will be a cure for this nasty disease that has touched the lives of so many of my loved ones and friends.

This week I found a new magazine at Costco, called "The Ultimate Canon SLR Handbook".  It's a bit pricey, $24 to $30 depending on where you buy it, but the material inside is written in such an easy way to understand.  It comes with a DVD that has over two hours of video guides on how to use the editing software that comes with your camera.  This should keep me pretty busy for a while.

I also picked up a copy of "Digital Photo".  This issue is about making amazing photo art, plus new techniques for using RAW.  This is another thing that I want to learn more about, shooting with RAW.  I 'm going to look up what it would cost to subscribe to these two magazines.

For now, I'm just going to get dressed and run the vacuum around a bit.  I think I have an appointment at the nail salon too.  Hmmm, I may have to reschedule that because I don't know what time the furnace service man is going to be here.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.
