A Day For This And That

June 29, 2022

Good morning.  Today will be cloudy with temps in the mid eighties.  I'll sit out on the porch for a while until it gets too hot.

I love being able to look around and see blossoms of all colors.  My roses are in different colors; red, pink, yellow and white.  One of these days, I'll have to get me some multi colored roses.  Here's a photo of my yellow roses.

I did get a new plant in the mail yesterday.  A Holiday Cactus.  It's going to have either yellow or white blossoms.  I can't wait for it to get big enough to bloom.

I'm watching the Cartoon Show and let me tell you...some of these cartoons aren't even very funny.  I just watched Popeye and Pluto duke it out again.  Of course, Popeye won, but it was still a really silly cartoon.  I guess that's why they are written for children, not adults.

Today I'm going to get back to working on my afghans.  I really need them to be finished before Christmas.  One of them is at the half done mark and the other one is getting close to half done.  I'll be glad to get them done so that I can start a new project.

It's early so I think I'll head for the kitchen to see what's for breakfast.  So, till Friday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Unexpected Bravery

June 27, 2022

Good morning.  Tis nice today.  Cloudy, but nice.  It's a great day for doing yard work.  For me, it's a great day to get rid of junk mail.

I've been reading my book about women and children in the Civil War.  It's amazing how many women and children were actually taking part in the war.  Very very brave people.  Here are photos of two women who fought in the Civil War.  Loreta Janeta Velaquez and Sarah Emma Edmonds.

I think these women are just amazing!  And the children too, that worked alongside their heros.  Here are photos of the Howe Brothers, Orion and Lyston.  Just imagine them fighting a war so that you and I could live free.

The book is "Unexpected Bravery"  (Women and Children of the Civil War)  by A.J Schenkman/  If you look it up, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

It's almost noon now so I'll be checking the fridge to see what's for lunch.  Enjoy your day.  I'll see you again on Wednesday.  Stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Super TV

June 24, 2022

Good morning.  Today will be in the seventies and mostly cloudy.  Tomorrow and Sunday will be hot and sunny.  This morning I'm watching the Cartoon show.  Some days I just have to feel sorry for the Coyote as he chases after the Road Runner.  He never wins.  Just once, you'd think the writers would let him win a little bit.

My morning (weekdays) TV is pretty good.  It starts with "Dragnet", then "My Three Sons", "Leave It To Beaver", "Perry Mason", "Matlock", and "In The Heat Of The Night".  That's five hours of awesome TV.  After that, I watch "Law & Order", "Blue Bloods" and the game shows.  Now you can see why I'm going to enjoy that TV on my porch.

Here's a photo of my tomatoes.  There are quite a few of them growing.

I learned a new word this week too.  Kerfuffle.  A kerfuffle is a disturbance or commotion typically caused by a dispute or conflict.  EX:  "In all the kerfuffle, nobody seemed to have noticed...."

There's a commercial on the TV now about a foldaway fan.  Did you know that people take fans with them when they go fishing, and out into the yard when they are gardening?  According to the television commercial they do.  I have never seen fans at either of these places.

Here's a great image that I borrowed from the web.  I wish all folks would realize that when the ground is hot, it's probably too hot for your pets too.

Now it's time for me to get back to my TV programs.  So, till Monday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous weekend.

The Price Of Milk

June 22, 2022

Good morning.  Today will be cloudy with temps in the low seventies.  Another awesome day.  I hope all this awesome weather doesn't mean that summer is going to be wicked hot.

Yesterday I paid all the bills, and today I think I'll clean out a bag full of junk mail.  I'm saving my crocheting for evening time.

I found a very interesting map online and borrowed it to share with you.  This one tells what it costs for a gallon of milk in every state.

There's quite a difference in prices.  $0.93 to $3.78.  At least, I think I got all the prices.  I tried to find out what year this information came from but I had no luck.  I find it very interesting that states with the highest and lowest prices are right next to each other.  How can this be?

Here's a super new tee shirt that I found on the web.  It says I have OCD.  Obsessive Crochet Disorder.

I wonder who thinks up all these super sayings for the tee shirts.  It has to be an awesome job.

Today "Meals On Wheels" came by again with a meal for me.  This is the second time they've come by.  I don't know how I got on the list, but it sure is nice.

Now it's time to watch In The Heat Of The Night.  Mornings I watch "Perry Mason", "Matlock", and "In The Heat Of The Night".  Three very different types of crime stories.  Awesome!

So, till Friday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Happy Juneteenth

June 20, 2022

Good morning.  Today we celebrate Juneteenth.  It's a national holiday, but not everyone celebrates it.  Today is also my son Gary Jr's birthday.  Happy Birthday Gary Jr.  Have an awesome day.

Today will be sunny with temps in the seventies.  A super day to enjoy being outdoors.  My plants are loving these temps too.  I already have several little tomatoes on my plant.  That's more than last year's plant got all summer.

For some reason, I haven't been spending very much time crocheting.  This is not good.  These afghans will never get finished if I don't spend some time working on them.  Instead, I've been doing lots of puzzles. (Find A Word and Crossword)   I love doing puzzles.

I found this picture of the poison ivy plants.  It shows how each of them looks.  This is good to know, especially now when all the plants are growing.

I guess not everyone knew that today was a holiday because the whole neighborhood put out their trash barrels this morning.  No trash is being picked up today.  Trash will be picked up tomorrow.

Now I think I'll have a look in the refrigerator to see what's for lunch.  So, till Wednesday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

New Words

June 17, 2022

Good morning.  Today is sunny with clouds, and temps will be near eighty degrees.  Another nice day for sitting outside.  And I will be after I finish using my laptop.

I learned another new word this morning.  Vyepti.  What is it?  It's a prescription drug used to help prevent migraine episodes in adults.  I often wonder how they come up with the names for all the new drugs.  Vyepti.  Hmmmm.

I have tomatoes beginning on my plant.  Today I'll have to try to get some photos.  This plant is rather thick so I think I'll get quite a few tomatoes.  That would be nice.

Here's a photo I borrowed from the web.  Do you recognize this fellow?

In 1950, when he was just 18, he was drafted into the United States Airforce.  Have you guessed who he is yet?  He's Willie Nelson.  He was quite a handsome young man.

I found this really adorable picture (on the web) of a fox and a rabbit, and thought it really should be shared.  I love how animals get along together so well.

Now it's time for me to enjoy some blog reading.  So, till Monday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous weekend.

This And That

June 15, 2022

Good morning.  Except for Friday, this week's temps should be in the seventies.  Very comfortable for sitting outside.  This is good because that's exactly what I'm planning on doing today.

I used to wonder why so many bloggers cut their posting back to once or twice a week from several days a week.  It seems that once we get to a certain age, not much happens so there's not much to talk about on our blog.  I'm at that age and it's not always easy to think of things to write about.

Today though, I can share photos of some of my roses.  This is still a young bush, and the blossoms are beautiful.

I need to check my tomato plant today.  Deanne's plant already has tomatoes on it.  Maybe mine does too?  That would be nice.  This photo is Deanne's tomato plant.

My Marigolds and Moss Roses are looking great with lots of colorful blossoms.  My white roses are beginning to blossom too.  I'll have to get a nice photo of them in bloom.

I have a big bag full of junk mail out on the porch.  I'll try to get rid of most of it today.  I did order a small TV for the porch and it is supposed to arrive tomorrow.  I'll be glad when I can watch my programs while I'm sitting out there.

I watched a lot of TV thus morning so now it's time to be making something for my lunch.  On this happy note, I'll take my leave.  See you again on Friday.  Till then, stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

A Busy New Day

June 13, 2022

Good morning.  It rained a bit during the night, enough to leave a big puddle at the end of my driveway.  Today will be cloudy/sunny with temps around eighty degrees.  A good day to sit out on the porch for a while.

I should read a chapter or two in my book too.  Normally I don't stop reading a book until I've reached the end of it but this one is different.  It's not my kind of "fun" reading so it's taking me a bit longer to read it.

This weekend, Joe cleaned the whole driveway.  My driveway is the size of a small yard.  It's more like a parking lot than a driveway, and it looks really nice now.  With all the trees in my yard, there's always tons of leaves, cones, twigs, etc all over the driveway.

Here's a photo of Twiggy.  You can see that is growing now.

Kevin's baseball season has started up again.  Yesterday, Deanne and Eddie went to Kevin's game and took this photo of him playing.  I'll have to make it one or two of his games too.  I do enjoy watching him play ball.

I think this will be a good week to wash my dresses.  Three or four of them need to be washed, and this is great weather for hanging them out on the line to dry.  Do any of you still hang clothes out on a line to dry after washing them?   I know most folks use a dryer these days, but there is something special about how clothes smell after drying out on a clothesline.  So fresh!

Today I have one more picture to share that I downloaded from the web.  How adorable is this little dog sniffing the rose?  Just beautiful!

Now I'm off to get a cold bottle of water and watch a bit of TV.  So, till Wednesday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

A New Book To Read

June 10, 2022

Good morning.  Today will be cloudy with temps nearing eighty degrees.  Another awesome day.

I had ordered a new book and it came a couple days ago.  It's very slow reading though.  The book is called "Deacon's Crossbow" by David G. Brown.  It's about a crossbow killing on Interstate 95 on February 20, 1994.

The fellow with the crossbow (Donald Graham)  was my sister in law's husband.  They were on their way home from dancing class when this whole episode happened.   In court, Donald was sentenced to life in prison without parole.  Want to know what heppened?  You can find the book on Amazon for $15.00.  Or maybe your library has a copy that you can borrow.

On a happier note, I have yellow roses in bloom.  They really are quite beautiful.  Have a lookee.

I love roses of all colors but there is something special about yellow ones.  They are sort of like sunshine on a stem.  Oh so very beautiful.

I haven't been crocheting much lately so I guess that's what I'll do this afternoon.  I need to work on the afghans or they'll never get finished.  You can be sure that it will be a very long time before I make anything with blue and green yarns again.  (colors in the afghans)

Now it's time to make a cup of coffee and some breakfast.  So, till Monday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous weekend.

Hugs, Edna B.

We Needed This Rain

June 8, 2022

Good morning.  Today is wet (raining) and temps will be in the seventies, maybe even hit 80 degrees.  It's definitely a great day for sitting out on the porch.  Today I'll order a small TV that Eddie will hook up on the porch for me.

I'm watching "Concentration" on TV this morning, hosted by Jack Narz.  I think of all the show hosts, Mr. Narz is the least enjoyable to watch.  (to me)   I'm not really sure why this is, I just know that I don't find him very interesting.

Jack Narz hosted Concentration from 1973 to 1978.  He died October 15, 2008.  I looked him up on Google, and he sounded really interesting.  Just not to me, I guess.

Today I did something I've never done before.  I turned OFF Perry Mason and tuned in to a game show.  The character that Perry was playing seemed to turn me off.  Gosh, I hope this doesn't happen again.

My plant "Twiggy" is starting to grow.  I noticed yesterday that it has gotten bigger.  Later, I'll go out and take a photo of it.  Twiggy is a Hummingbird Mint plant.  I'm really interested to see what it will look like when it gets big enough to be planted in the ground.

My outdoor plants are doing really well.  Here's a photo that Deanne took yesterday.  See all the yellow flowers on my tomato plant?  I hope this means lots of tomatoes.  (maybe I should take a close up photo of this plant.)

Now I think it's time for me to check the refrigerator to see what looks good for lunch.  So, till Friday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Such A Beautiful Day!

June 6, 2022

Good morning.  Today is a really nice day.  Sunny with temps in the high seventies.  An awesome day!  You know I'll be sitting out on the porch for a while today.

I keep a big bag of junk mail out on the porch.  So, I can get rid of junk mail or I can crochet while I enjoy sitting out there.  I think there should be a porch on every house.

It's time to start looking around for a little dog.  Every day I check the local sites (on the web) but so far I haven't found any small dogs.  By small I mean ten pounds and under.  Preferably around six pounds.  I'll just keep looking.

Here's a photo that Audrey sent to me.  There's a nest with baby wrens on her porch.  Aren't they just the cutest!

I'm watching the "Dinosaur Train" this morning.  I realize it's a kids' program but it's really interesting.  Today I'm learning all about butterflies.  I wonder what it would be like to be on a real dinosaur train.  Hmmm!

I'm expecting a package so I keep watching for a delivery.  I ordered a dragon to put on my porch railing (just to decorate).  Isn't this an awesome dragon?

Now I'm going to check the refrigerator to see what's for lunch.  After I eat, I'll go sit out on the porch for a while.  So, till Monday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous weekend.

Just A Quick Note

 June 4, 2022

Good afternoon.  This is just a short post to acknowledge that for the first time in fifteen years, I forgot to post yesterday.  I wasn't super busy, so I'm not really sure why this happened.

Here's an interesting image that I found on the web.  It shows how all our main highways are in numerical order.  Hmmm.

Now I'm going back to my TV.  I will be here Monday.  So till then, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous weekend.

I love Beautiful Blossoms

June 2, 2022

Good morning.  I'm having a late day today.  I did not sleep much during the night, so I'm sleepy this morning.  I got a new Iris catalogue in the mail, and I've spent many hours looking through it, trying to pick out one iris to order.  They are all so beautiful, it's not easy to pick just one.

The Iris comes in so many new colors now.  It's really difficult trying to order just one.  I'll probably have to order more than one.  Gosh, such a problem!

Today will be cloudy with temps in the sixties.  Just a bit too cool to sit outside.  It's a good day to crochet.  On afghans.  So I guess that's what I'll do.  At least for a few rows.

Meanwhile, I'm watching the turkeys out in our yard.  They like the seed that we put out for our birds.  And I like watching them.

Now it's time for me to make a hot cup of coffee and enjoy a bit of blog reading.  So, till Friday, Y'all have a super day.

Hugs, Edna B.
