Jelly Beans, Anyone?

January 31, 2022

Good morning.  Brrr!  It's cold!  When I woke up a while ago, it was 3F degrees.  Now it has warmed up to 8F degrees.  The sun is shining, but it doesn't seem to be warming things up much.

Do you like jelly beans?  I just watched a TV commercial about Nature's Bounty vitamins.  They are now making them as jelly beans.  I think this will definitely make more folks want to buy them.

Gosh, my car doesn't even like this cold.  I just went to start it up and it won't start.  I only started it once yesterday.  I knew I should have started it more than once, but I didn't.  Oh well.  Live and learn.

Today I'll put a few more rows on the blue baby blanket.  I think there's only about twelve more rows to go till it's finished.  After that, I'll have to work on the green and blue afghan.  Soon it will be time to pick out colors for the next one.  I'm thinking maybe shades of Lilac?

There's really no more news for today, so I think I'll do a bit of blog reading now.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Lots And Lots Of Snow!

January 30, 2022

Good morning.  Tis sunny and cold today.  And there is lots of snow everywhere.  Our snowplow guy came last night and cleared a lot of the snow in my yard.  He's supposed to come back this morning to finish.

Here's a photo from last evening, of Joe clearing the snow away from my car.  You can see how much snow fell here.  A lot!

We were very lucky in our area.  We did not lose our electric power.  I did have my small generator all charged and ready, just in case.  Thank goodness, I did not need it.  I hope this is the only big snow storm we're going to have this winter.  These snowplow guys are super expensive this year.

I think I may install my jig saw puzzle program in this laptop soon.  I miss doing my puzzles.  They are very relaxing.   My puzzle software is old, but I can't find any that are for the newer computers.  Hopefully, my old program will work on this laptop.  We'll see.

The morning has gone and I'm getting hungry.  It's time to head for the kitchen.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Lots Of Snow Coming

January 28, 2022

Good morning.  Tis gray and cold, and a few degrees higher than yesterday.   Tomorrow we're expecting over a foot of snow.  Today I need to hire someone with a plow to help get rid of a lot of the snow.

My friend Beth said she never heard of Ding Dong, Texas.  So, I looked it up.   Ding Dong is an unincorporated community in Central Texas.  It is situated on the Lampasas River, eight miles south of Killeen in southwestern Bell County.  In the early 1930's, a man named Zulius Bell and his nephew Bert Bell operated a country store along the Lampasas River in central Texas.  (courtesy of Google)

Today will be another quiet, TV day.  Hopefully, I'll be up to crocheting a few rows on my projects.  With all the snow coming, it's going to be a long weekend.

Later this morning, I have some groceries due to be delivered.  I won't be needing anything for a while now.  And in two weeks, I'll be getting a new washing machine delivered and set up.  It will be good to be able to do laundry when I want to.

Now it's time to watch Law & Order.  So, till Sunday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

BRR! TIS COLD!

January 27, 2022

Good morning.  To say BRR is an understatement!  It was 7F degrees when I woke up this morning.  (about three hours ago)  It has now warmed up significantly to 17F degrees. Not only is it cold, but we're expecting a ton of snow starting sometime tomorrow and most of Saturday.

Let me tell you about the meals from Sunbasket.  So far, I've received:  spaghetti and meatballs, beef shepherds pie, creamy linguini with peas and pancetta, and broccoli and mac n cheese.  All the meals were good.

This morning, I'm watching Matlock on TV.  It's the first time I've seen an episode where they show Ben Matlock as a young man.  He plays the part of himself as a law student and the part of his father.  Very interesting indeed.

I have another map for you.  This one shows the oddly named towns across the United States.  Do you know anyone living in any of these towns?  Sadly, one state seems to be missing from this map.  The state of Hawaii.

Law & Order will be coming on TV now so I'm off to do some watching.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

What's In A Name?

January 25, 2022

Good morning.  Tis gray and 33F degrees outside today.  We've had a dusting of snow.  Just enough to cover up any tracks in the old snow.

Gosh, do you realize that February is only a week away?  Wouldn't it be nice if the warm temps were only a week away?  Oh goodness, what a happy thought that is!  Alas, it isn't so.

Perry Mason is on TV now, but this is one of the stories that starts out very confusing.  I can't seem to get the gist of it so I've turned it off and put on a game show.  Believe me, this doesn't happy very often.

The old game shows are really interesting and fun to watch.  It's a pity we don't still have lots of these games on TV.   I, for one, would watch more regular TV.

It's slow getting back to my crocheting.  I'm just doing a few rows at a time.  My concentration isn't back to what it used to be.  I guess as we get older, things take longer to happen.

Here's an interesting map showing some funny named towns in England.

I also found a list of the symptoms for Omnicron, and thought it might be helpful.  If you do have these symptoms, do call your doctor.

In a little while, there will be a Law & Order marathon on TV, so I think I'll do a bit of blog reading first.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Designs In The Snow

January 24, 2022

Good morning.  It's sunny and 26F degrees.  We had a dusting of snow during the night.  Just enough to leave a thin layer of white everywhere.

Gosh, I woke up really late this morning.  I dozed off around seven this morning, and just woke up a few minutes ago.  (three and a half hours)  I need to figure out how to put these hours of good sleep back into the nighttime.

The new food came yesterday.  The company is Sunbasket.  I had one of the meals last evening, and it was good.  Now I'm looking forward to tonight's meal.

Did you know that Bees live less than forty days?  I didn't know this.  And yet, they are so very important to our lives.

The mailman just delivered the mail.  After he drove out of the yard, I noticed his tire marks in the driveway.  I had to take a photo to share.  I've never seen tire patterns like this before.

Gosh, the morning is flying by so quickly.  Does that mean that Spring will come soon?  I have no more news so I think I'll enjoy a bit of blog reading.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a super day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Cold Days Are Soooo Long

January 23, 2022

Good morning.  Tis gray and 24F degrees outside today.  I think I'll just leave it out there.  Spring is just 56 days away.  56 loooooong days!   Even then, temps will still be on the cool side for a while.

In these old houses, the cold seems to seep in through the walls and floors.  Even though the heat is on, it's the cold that you feel.  At least in my case.

I've begun to get back to my crocheting just a bit.  I managed a few rows yesterday.  Today I'll do a few more.  Well, at least that's the plan.  Maybe I'll read for a while.  Although lately I tend to fall asleep when I'm reading.  So maybe I'll save the book for after supper.

Deanne switched my cooked meals to a different company.  I should be getting my first order from them today.  I'm not sure what meals were ordered, so this should be interesting.  Tasty, at least.

I've found a sweater pattern that looks easy to make and I think I just may try it.  I need to work on something other than blankets and afghans for a while.  Here's the pattern in case anyone else wants to try it.

That's my news for today.  Now I'm off to watch a bit of Law & Order.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Tis Wicked Nippy!

January 21, 2022

Good morning.  Tis cloudy outside and the temperature is 9F degrees.  Nip, nip, nippy!  We may even see some sunshine today.

I have a question for you.  Have you all seen the TV commercial for NetSpend cards?  The woman in the ad is complaining about the bills she has at the end of each month.  The announcer says that she needs the NetSpend card.  It will give her access to her paycheck two days earlier each week.  And I guess this is supposed to alleviate her problems with her bills each month.  I haven't been able to figure out how this helps her problem, can you?  (It's just a debit card, not extra money.)

Today I'm hoping to get back to crocheting a bit. At least to put a couple rows on each project. Then perhaps I can try out a new pattern that I found recently.  Hmmm, sounds like I may be on the mend.

The sun is shining now.  I hope that means that the temps will go up.  Now that would really be nice!  I just don't handle these cold temps very well.

I think it's time for a hot cup of coffee, and maybe some blog reading.  So, till Sunday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous weekend.  \

To Market, To Market

January 20, 2022

Good morning.  Tis 34F degrees and wet.  A good day to stay in and watch TV.  Right now Perry Mason is on.  After that will be Matlock.  Then, a Law & Order marathon.  See what I mean?  A great day to watch TV.

Today I tried to place a grocery order for delivery from WalMart.  However, they are not delivering until next Wednesday.  Hmmm, I wonder what that's all about!   I could order from the other market, Shaw's, but they are so expensive.  I usually only order sale items from them.

I'm thinking that today I really should do a bit of crocheting.  My projects are taking forever to finish because I haven't really been working on them very much.  Sad to say, I just haven't been in the mood to crochet.  My mind wants to, but my hands don't.

Let me give you an update on Baby Cerys.  She's thriving now that she's home from the hospital.  She's such a happy baby.

We don't know yet what name Mia and Jarrod have picked out for their baby due in February, but the one due in late March (Jeremy & Caitlin's) will be named Serena Melanie.  Such a pretty name.

I'm thinking that I should head to the kitchen now and see what's for lunch.  A hot cup of coffee would be nice too.  I haven't had one in a while.  Hmmm, and a ham and cheese sandwich sounds pretty good too.

So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Just A Short Note

January 18, 2022

Good morning.  Today we have light sunshine and 27F degrees.  By light, I mean that the sun isn't very bright.  Actually, it's barely shining at all.  And, it's rather breezy.

My cold lingers, and is very annoying.  Even though I nap, I'm still tired.  I have a doctor appointment in two weeks.  If my cold hasn't cleared up by then, maybe she can give me something to help get rid of it.  Up to now, I haven't been coughing.  But now the coughing has begun.

Today will be more of watching TV and napping.  Every now and then, I do a row or two of crochet, but not as much as I'd like.  This cold makes it hard to concentrate.

Did you know that Law & Order, Criminal Intent will be returning to regular TV?  Yup!  The end of February.  Awesome!  It will have a lot of the original cast members.  I think this is a first!

Does anyone need a good reason not to dust around the house?  Here's a super one!

I really don't have much news for today so I think I'll do some blog reading.  So, till Thursday, Y'all say safe and have a fantabulous day.

Redundant TV Commercials

January 17, 2022

Good morning.  Tis wet and gray outside, and the temperature is 46F degrees.  Alas, these temps won't last very long.  It snowed during the night before switching over to rain.

I'm getting lots of rest, and drinking my fluids, but this cold of mine doesn't seem to be going anywhere.  Sad to say, I don't feel like crocheting often.  My projects are going to take quite a while to get finished.

Is anyone other than me getting tired of these "Medicare" TV commercials?  We are now in our third year of these commercials.  They are on all day and all night.  Every day.  Every night.  My understanding is that they are paid for by insurance companies.  Is this why our insurances are so costly?

Last night, I read a couple chapters in my new book.  Were you aware that there were ten and twelve year old children fighting alongside our soldiers during the Civil War?  Such bravery is so awesome!  By the way, this book was just written last year.  2021.

Here's an interesting item that I found on the web.   Xylitol is now being marketed as Birch Sugar, and is toxic to dogs.  Please read your labels before sharing foods with your pets.  And pass this information along to your family and friends.

I just watched a commercial on TV where they made a mistake.  The person talking pronounced a man's name as "Nickel."  It was spelled "Kinkle."  What happened to Quality Control?

The morning is waning and I have things to do before Deanne gets here.  So, I shall take my leave now.  Till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Brrr! It's Too Cold For Me!

January 16, 2022

Good morning.  It's sunny and 7F degrees.  Brrr!  Too cold for me!   My house is very old and the cold just seems to seep right in through the walls and floors.

This weekend I received a new book from Amazon.  I haven't read it yet, but it promises to be very interesting.

Granddaughter Mia's baby shower was held this weekend.  The baby is due in February and is a girl.  Mia looks absolutely beautiful.  This is a photo of her and hubby, Jarod.

In between my afghan projects, I'll keep making a few baby items to have on hand.  They are fun to make, and one never knows when a baby gift may be needed.

I had a grocery order being delivered today.  However, it came early, and I have just finished putting it away.  It wasn't a very big order, so I'll still have to make another order in the next few days.

Today there's another Law & Order marathon on TV, so I'll be watching that while I attack a big stack of junk mail.  Sad to say, I don't like to deal with the junk mail on a daily basis, so I save it all in a big pile.  Alas, the pile now needs to be done away with.

Now I'm going to make a hot cup of coffee and dig into that junk mail.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Unstructured Time

January 14, 2022

Good morning.  Goodness, I'm getting a really late start today.  I didn't sleep much during the night, so this morning when my eyes wanted to close, I let them.  And I fell right to sleep.

Being retired does have some advantages.  Being able to sleep whenever you want to is one of them.  Actually, about the only things that have time specifics are doctor appointments.  Pretty much everything else is on a "whenever I feel like it" schedule.

Today, I thought I'd check out another food service.  Daily Harvest.  Only problem was that unless you picked out a program and signed in, you could not have access to any information.  That's sad.  How do I know if I want to sign on to a program unless I can see what it has to offer?  Sad to say, a lot of programs are set up that way.

Last night I did a bit of catalogue shopping.  And guess what?  I've purchased my first gift to put away for next Christmas!  And I found a cute gnome figurine for Deanne's yard.  The beer steins are solar, and they light up at night.

I read an interesting article on the web and thought I'd share it with you.  It's about not leaving your car registration in your auto.  There is a lot of personal information on these papers for personal ID thieves.  The government is suggesting that you keep it somewhere safe, and carry a photo copy of it with you.  This copy will be accepted if you are stopped by police and asked for it.

Today I have some calls to make to my cousin, and a couple of friends.  This weekend is baby shower time for my granddaughter Mia.  Her baby is due in February.  I believe she will be great grandbaby number thirteen.

Now it's time for me to read some blogs and get started on this new day.  So, till Sunday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous weekend.

Hugs, Edna B.

Tis Quiet And Cold

January 13, 2022

Good morning.  Tis sunny and 38F degrees.  My weather app says that we can expect a mixture of snow and rain tomorrow.  Well, it is Winter.

My yarn came yesterday and I put a few rows on the afghan to see how it would look.  I like it!

My Christmas present to myself also arrived.  A beautiful citrine ring.  My birthstone.  I was watchng ShopLC TV one night during their annual clearance sale and they showed this ring.   It's the one on the right.  I have to say that it looks mighty nice on my hand.

I spent most of yesterday paying bills and making a tiny start on my tax stuff.  Gosh, I can't believe it's tax time again!  My funnest time of year!  This year, it shouldn't take too long to gather all the information for the accountant.  Not much happened here in 2021.

Today will be quiet.  An hour or two on tax stuff, maybe wash some dishes, then a bit of crocheting.  I just may fit a nap in between those activities.  First though, I think I should make a cup of coffee and something to eat.

It's really cold outside now so please don't forget to bring your pets indoors.  And if possible, make a dry place for outdoor animals to get out of the cold.  I'll thank you for them.

Now I'm of to get started on this new day.  So, stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

A Nation Of Many Languages

January 11, 2022

Good morning.  Tis sunny and 9F degrees.  Brrr!   Oh Spring, where art thou?  At four a.m. it was snowing again here.  I dozed off, and sometime while I was sleeping, the snow stopped.  Thank you, thank you.

Today will be another quiet day.  When it's cold like this, there's not much for me to do except to watch TV and crochet.  Or maybe read a book.  Last night, I did start reading a new book that I have in my Kindle library.  I think maybe I'll try finishing it today.  I used to read a lot.  I miss it.

My cold is playing havoc on my appetite.  I don't seem to have much of an appetite these days.  On my least hungry days, I make sure to eat at least two meals.  I don't want to get sick.

Here's an interesting map that I borrowed from the web.  It shows the different languages spoken across our country.  You may have to enlarge the image to read all of it.

The mailman just left so I need to be going outside to collect the mail.  Hopefully, he left me a package of yarn.  Afterwards I think I'll make myself a cup of hot cocoa.  I always have an appetite for something to drink.  This is good.  I think.

Now I'm off to get started on this new day.  So, till Thursday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Prepared Meals

January 10, 2022

Good morning.  Tis another cold, quiet day here in New England.  The sun is shining, and it's 29F degrees.  I'll be glad when it shines warm enough to make the temperature go up.

Well, yesterday I ate another meal from Freshly.  I enjoyed the broccoli, even though it was chopped to bits and there was no taste of garlic with it.  The chicken was just not my cup of tea.

I'm not saying that the food isn't good.  It's just not the type of food that I would normally eat.   I don't cover my food with fancy sauces, and I don't shred my veggies so much that they aren't recognizable.  Why did they shred the broccoli so much?  It took away some of the flavor.

I think the idea of home-cooked meals being delivered is a good idea.  But you should first find a way to check the food that each of these companies gives you.  Make sure it's something you will enjoy.

This cold of mine is a lingerer.  It just doesn't want to go away.  Years ago, I used to get a cold in the Fall and it would go away in the Spring.  I sure hope this one isn't going to stick around till Spring!

Hopefully, the yarn that I need for this new afghan will arrive in the next day or two.  I'd like to get back to working on the afghan.  My hands get restless when they aren't holding a crochet hook.

Now I'm going to make a hot cup of coffee and enjoy a bit of blog reading.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

A Moon For Every Month

January 8, 2022

Good morning.   Tis gray outside, cold and 33F degrees.  Brrr!  All the snow has been shoveled away thanks to Mike and Joe, two of the dwarfs.  Yesterday was my friend Kyra's birthday.  I hope your special day was awesome.  Happy Birthday Kyra.

There's not much new here.  I still have my cold.  I drink a lot of fluids and rest a lot.  To be honest, it gets boring after a while.  Now and then I do a bit of crocheting but I can't really concentrate on it for very long.  Spring is still seventy days away. Sighhhh!

As to the meals from Freshly - So far, I've eaten the Sausage/Baked Penne - this one was good,  and the Oven Baked Chicken/Florentine - this one was not so good.  Of course, this is just to my taste buds.  I don't normally eat fussy food.  I like my food plain.  No need to cream it and mix it with other foods.  I'll try another meal later today.

For those of you interested in the full moons, I borrowed this chart from the web.  It shows all the full moons for the whole year.

There's a Law & Order marathon on TV today so that's what I'll be watching.  And maybe putting a few more rows on the crib blanket.

That's my news for today.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

It's Snowing!

January 7, 2022

Good morning.  If you've been watching the news, then you know it;s been snowing here.  I woke up early, around four a.m., to this.

And it hasn't stopped yet!  Everything outside is covered with the white stuff.  I don't know how much is on the ground, but there is at least eight inches of snow on top of the hedge outside my window.

My cold still lingers, and I rest a lot.  Every now and then I crochet a bit.  Mostly I just drink fluids and rest.  I'm waiting for my last yarn order to get here so that I can work on the new afghan.

My hands get so antsy when I don't have projects to work on.  Maybe I could start another new afghan.  That way I can work a little bit on each project until they are both finished.  Yup, sounds like a plan.

One of the things that I got for Christmas was a subscription to "Freshly."  They delivered cooked meals to you.  My first delivery should be coming soon.  I'll let you know how it is after the first week.

Now I'm going to do a bit of blog reading and then settle in with some Law & Order reruns.  So, till Sunday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous weekend.

Hugs, Edna B.

Nothing Much Happening Here

January 6, 2022

Good morning.  Tis sunny and 37F degrees.  Brrr!  Gosh, it's hard to think of things to write about.  I don't really do much of anything.  I'd love to sit outside but it's much too cold for that.

I have been working on the new afghan, but soon I'll need the new color for it.  It's been ordered, I just have to wait for it to get here.  Meanwhile I did start a new crib blanket.  This one will be for a boy.  I realize we have all girls coming now, but that could change in the near future.  One never knows.  These are the colors of the new blanket.  Blues, aqua and white.

Did you know that Spring is only seventy three days away?  It's getting through the next sixty days that is the hard part.  After that, temps will feel warmer (I hope).  Thank goodness for all  the Law & Order and Blue Bloods re-runs on TV.  They make watching TV a pleasure.

Today I want to call my cousin.  I haven't spoken with her in a few days and I like to know that she and her hubby are okay.  Maybe when the temps get warmer, I can make a trip to Pennsylvania and see her in person.  That would be nice.

Now I think I need to have a wee nap.  My eyes are closing.  It's from this cold that I have.  It makes me very tired.  So, on that note, I'll take my leave.  Till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Just Keeping Busy

January 4, 2022

Good morning.  Tis sunny and cold.  18F degrees.  Much too cold for me!   Speaking of colds, I think mine is much better this morning.  At least I'm not so congested today.

Today I'll watch TV and work on the new afghan.  Hopefully by tomorrow most of my cold will be gone.  Here are the two colors I'm working with.  I may pick up the blue in the variegated yarn for the third color.

Deanne will be coming by after work.  She's picking up a few things for me at the market.  Later this week, I'll have to be making a new grocery delivery order.  I don't know how other folks feel about online ordering and home deliveries, but I sure do appreciate it.  It's made life much easier for me these past two years.

I must remember to order more bird seed today.  Maybe Joe will pick it up later today after work.  I'll have to ask him when he comes home for lunch.  In this cold weather, I do not like to run out of bird seed.

Perry Mason is on TV now so it's time for me to skidaddle.  So, till Thursday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Snuffle, Snuffle, I Have A Cold!

January 3, 2022

Good morning.  This will be a short post.  I've caught a cold and I'm not feeling so good.  I have the chills and I can't stop blowing my nose.  I'm sure before the day is out, it will be as red as Rudolph's.  There is a Law & Order marathon on TV today, so I'll stay in bed and watch TV.

Robyn asks, when do I use my pocket wrap?  Whenever I have a chill, I put it on.  Actually, I'm wearing it right now.  However, even if you don't want to wear it, make it and put it away to give as a Christmas gift next December.

If you have no one to give your creations to, check out Operation Gratitude.com.  They will ship your gifts to our service men and women.  This could keep you busy crocheting and knitting all year long.  As a matter of fact, I just may start to make some hat and scarf sets for them.  Or hat and neck warmer sets.  Hmm, they might be more useful.

I mentioned that I had started a new afghan.  However, the yarn appears to be much thicker than the rest of my yarn so I had to rip it out.  I've already started over on another new one, but I'll have to order more yarn to finish it.  I like to use three colors, and I only have two of the colors that I want to use.

Now I'm going to make a hot cup of cocoa and get comfy on the sofa to watch TV.  Hopefully, this cold will not last long.  So till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

A New Year Begins

January 2, 2022

Good morning and Happy New Year to all of you.  Did you do anything special to celebrate the New Year?  I did not.  I got all nice and comfy to watch TV, and promptly fell asleep.

Earlier in the evening, Deanne and Eddie came by to celebrate a bit with me.

Later, Deanne and Eddie rang in the New Year together.

Deanne also got re-tested, and was found negative.  Awesome!  More good news, I finished the pink afghan and started a new one.  This one will be in greens.  I'll try to take a photo of the yarn later.

I woke up early yesterday, and sat down with my Christmas box.  Oh my, I had such fun!   One of the things in the box was a new book which I've already started reading.

Today I'll split my time between crocheting and reading.  Now that's a great way to start a new year!  Did I mention that there was a bag of chocolate covered cranberries in the box?  And that I ate them all?  Yup, the whole bag!  Not all at once.  On and off all through the day and night, I ate a few till they were all gone.  I think I have a chocolate problem!  (Oh, but they were delicious!)

Now I'm off to enjoy some  blog reading before breakfast.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.
