Scroll To The Bottom, I'm On A Rant

December 21, 2016

Good morning.  Goodness, the month of December is quickly fading, and it won't be long before we're all singing Auld Lang Syne and ringing in a new year.  When we reach an age where we start noticing how quickly time really does pass, we begin to realize how precious time is.  If there are things we have always wanted to do, but never got the chance or had the time, now is the time to do these things.

For me, I've been wanting to take Pogo and spend a few days by the ocean.  Somehow, life always seems to get in the way.  This summer, I'm going to try really hard to arrange this little trip.  I also think I'd like to take a trip by car to somewhere I haven't been before.  Hmmm, this one is a bit trickier but I'm going to give it some thought.

There was an interesting article in yesterday's newspaper titled "Cities, counties plan immigrant legal aid after Trump's win."   It goes on to name some of the different cities that are setting aside taxpayer funds along with private donations to pay for legal aid for  immigrants facing deportation.  In Chicago, half of this money will be used to pay 200 "community navigators" who will search out these illegal immigrants and help them to figure out how they can stay here.

The funds being used to aid the illegals runs into the tens of millions of dollars.  California alone is talking about tens of million dollars for their state alone.  Wow, considering they had no money to build clean water plants when they had no water, I find it super interesting that they now have all this money to promote a project of this size for illegals.

Folks, I realize this country was built by immigrants, but the bulk of them came here through proper channels, worked hard and built a life for themselves and their families.  They were not here to destroy and change our morals and our way of life.  They came here to have a life.

I have nothing against taking in immigrants.  But I do think they should come in legally, and try to assimilate into our country's ways.  Learn our language, uphold our laws and work to make your own way.  I think most of them should have a sponsor here in this country who is willing to help them.

I do not believe that babies born here by illegal immigrants should be automatically given citizenship, nor do I believe that the illegal immigrants should be given our social security benefits, welfare, free food, housing, medical, transportation, college educations, etc.  I do believe in giving a helping hand to folks in need, but there is a difference between a helping hand and total support.

Sad to say, I think that any cities and towns who plan to go against our laws, should be penalized by withholding federal ( and state ) funds.  If you have enough money to go against the law, then you certainly don't need federal and state funding.  Same goes for sanctuary cities.  I think they should all lose their state and federal funding while they are protecting illegal criminals.

'Nuff  said. That's my rant for today!  Sometimes I just have to say what's really on my mind.  By the way, the next column over (in this same newspaper) was titled "Trump cruises to Electoral College victory."  Trump finished with 304 votes and Clinton had 227.  Donald Trump will now officially become our 45th president.  President Trump, I wish you well.

Well, yesterday was a rather quiet day for me and Pogo.  Today though, I have grocery shopping to do, and grandson Kevin will be coming by in a couple hours to take me shopping.  He is taking finals this week at his college.

Now I need to check my shopping list to make sure I haven't forgotten anything.  Before I go, I have another Christmas quick page for you.  I hope you like it.

Edna,
I totally agree with everything that you said. Everything. The immigrants that came here years ago worked hard, very hard to make their way and were truly grateful. It seems that everywhere I look and what I read it is the same, how they cut everything out for us and yet give to the immigrants that come here. We do not have the same benefits that these cities give to the refugees coming in and look at the crime rate! Not all are criminals I realize but a whole hell of a lot of them are. I don't understand and I am with you. Cut the funding. Tens of millions of dollars to illegals yet this year I get a $2.00 raise on my Social Security check. WOW... that will not even buy a good loaf of bread!
Okay I better stop here before my temper gets the better of me because I really get mad over some of the stuff that I have heard and know is happening.

I slept in late. So I am having coffee. Cisco has been fed and is hanging out with Nathan, it is his day off. I am so happy that Christmas is almost here. I would be happier if I had all of my grandbabies and family with us but it is what it is.

I think that your idea of going some place that you have never been sounds fantastic. We have things in our own backyards that need to be explored. Karyn and I are going to take a small trip about 2 hours away when it gets warmer to Fredericksburg just outside of Austin. It is a German community and is still in the Hill Country. At the time of year that we want to go, the Bluebonnets and Indian Sagebrush should all be in bloom and we can visit the local shops that do crafts and specialty foods. We have never been. Karyn went thru there going someplace once but it was at night so she didn't see anything.
When we lived in Indiana we loved going to the Amish Communities. What a really beautiful community they had.
I am in envy just thinking of a beach cottage by the sea where you can just sit and listen to the sound of the waves and watch as they crash to shore, see the gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. It sounds magical. I hope that you will get to go. I hope that you will take an opportunity to do all the things that you want to do now.

I will go for now. Oh and Thank You for the beautiful QP. I think that I am going to use it for a card... Hugs, Beth and Cisco

Here we have a bit the same problem, with the refugees or immigrants I am for helping those who need it(people leaving their country because there is a war going on for years and they have to fear for their life, because of having a different b elieve, or have a different opinion about some things etc). And mostly those people asking for assylum and permission to stay don't cause the problems. It are the illegal ones that often do. And yes, I think that here too we sometimes are offering a too big helping hand. Give them a start, help them to learn the language as soon as possible, help them then in finding a job, okay, that are things that is necessary and that proper refugees also want, to build up a normal life again. Thank God there are quite some examples of succeeded immigrants, but it are always the bad ones that come into the news and spoil all good intentions of good willing people.
I think immigrants/refugees always will be a point of discussion and it is a not so easy subject to discuss. I am for help, but also for help in their own countryspecially for the economical refugees). and then not giving millions to the government, no, invest in smaller, kind of private projects. Then the money given is spend much more economical and will have much more effect. When given to governments, you know what often happens. Large portions of the money disappears strangely into some pockets or onto a few bankaccounts and is not used to improve life for the people, by creating agricultural projects, watersystems, housing, schooling etc.

I just wonder how it comes, that often good people, very driving and having great ideas of how to solve several problems, go into politics and then aren't able to really execute their good ideas(or seem to have forgotten them)????
Oh, I better stop rambling about it. i have a bit a problem to express myself properly in English when it comes to discussions and meanings about those kind of subjects. it would be easier talking about it then writing it down.

It should be wonderful if you could manage to spend a week or so at the seaside. perhaps you could think about someone who would like to go with you, so that you have some company(and someone to look after you in case?).
And if possible, it always is great to do a little trip to somewhere you never went before. It isn't always neceassary to go very far from your hometown. We often know the big world outside better than the world around our hometowns, yes, that is often true!
Good, this was a very long comment, so about time I finish and go and make us some coffee!
have a lovely day.
