HAPPY SPRING!!!

March 20, 2016

Good morning on this sunny morning, and welcome to Spring!!  My absolute favorite season is finally here.  And Old Man Winter is about to do his best to spoil it.  The different weather stations are calling for anywhere from 2 to 8 inches of snow for us starting tonight and not stopping until sometime tomorrow afternoon.  I'm hoping for just a dusting.  (Keep dreaming girlie!)

My daffodils and jonquils are budded and some are almost ready to blossom.  I'm hoping against hope that the snow doesn't kill all the plants.  Here's a photo of just a few of these beautiful little plants.

Friday, Pogo and I went out to do a few errands.  On the way home, I treated us to lunch from McDonalds.  As for the shredding that I wanted to do, well not very much of it got done.  What else is new?  There's an old saying - "The best laid plans of mice and men......."  My mother used to say this.  Now I say it a lot.

The good news today is that Spring has finally arrived, and pretty soon we'll be able to work in the yard, cleaning up dead leaves and other debris from the winter.  It will be time to put up new garden borders and spruce a few things up with a fresh coat of paint.

A while ago, I ordered a Mint Julep rose.  Hopefully, that will be arriving in a couple of weeks.  Now I'll have to find a good spot for it in the yard. I also have a few new bulbs that are waiting to be planted.  We just have to get past this last (I hope) snow storm.

Yesterday, I got an estimate for pruning one of the large pines in my yard.  There are two or three large branches of it hanging over the Japanese Red Maple tree, depriving it of sunlight and space to grow.  Pruning the tree will require using a truck with a bucket lift on it.

The price was reasonable, so this company will be back in two or three weeks to take care of the tree.  I also learned that my giant pine trees are not pines.  They are Norwegian Spruce.  This explains why they look a bit different from regular pine trees.  Either way, they are truly beautiful.

Today I have a couple more photos taken in Florida.  This first one is Pogo, outside in his stroller getting ready to watch the Disney fireworks display.

And this is one of my favorite shots of the display.  This one has bits of red with gold and white in it.  I tried to get shots of all the beautiful colored bursts, but I was not very successful.  Ah well, there's always next year, and I'll keep on trying.

I'm not making any plans for today.  Whatever chores I can get to will get done.  Maybe I'll even start a new notebook for keeping track of expenses for next year's taxes.  Now that would be a big plus!!

Right now I think I'll have a look in the fridge to see what we'll have for breakfast.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous first Day of Spring!

Hugs, Edna B.

I've been away from commenting too long and did not realize you already had your trip and are back again! We have had snow too. After such lovely Spring like weather we got hammered with snow and cold. Ah...Springtime in the Rockies! Pogo looks so cute in his stroller. We have these huge (over fifty feet tall) pine trees. They are evil with their little nasty pine cones that if you step on will cause your feet great pain so we can never go barefooted in the backyard. Whoever planted all these trees apparently knew they would not have to be responsible for them! Oh I love nature but giant trees should be in a forest not my backyard! These trees are so messy and drop those pinchy little piney cones. We already spent a king's ransom to remove a dead cottonwood which was about fifty feet tall too and a beautiful sprawling choke cherry tree which caused $13,000 worth of repairs to our main plumbing line. Now we have insurance which costs about $100 a year to prevent that kind of sticker shock! Ouch! Have a great Sonday. We will taking Nick to his drop off point later today to head back to Kansas with Louis. It was good having him home for a week. xo

Happy Spring to you too,Edna. We have a beautiful bright sunny day, but the temp this morning was 26 degrees. But, I have to tell you, there is a chorus of birds singing their love songs outside and I have seen some territorial scuffles between males, so spring is definitely in the air. We have had flock after flock of Pelicans on the lake. The weather has been so clear that they only stay long enough to rest up and eat then they are off on their migration again. Sadly since the water on the lake is open the fisherman and their speed boats have showed up and that scatters the migrating birds. Too bad ... I would love for them to stay long enough to get some good pictures.

Izzi is still getting laser treatments, but she keeps re injuring the the knee ... I am not sure when or how since she is on leash walks only. But last night she was hobbling again. It is worrisome and I sure hate to think of putting her through another surgery. Fingers crossed that time will bring good news.

I am working on my Thai pictures whenever I can. I have so many from so many places, I am not sure how I am going to organize them. It is becoming quite a chore. I did make a book of the wedding and will share some of those pictures soon, but the rest, I am not sure what to do with. I think I have too many pictures for a book, so I am thinking of making a slide show ... or a group of slide shows ... Oh my. Life doesn't ever seem to be simple :(

So I hope the weatherman is wrong about all the snow coming your way. There is at least a 50% chance that the weather will change and go somewhere else. That would be nice. I am looking forward to the exercise of doing yard work again, but it is work no matter how you look at it. That means sore muscles and achy backs ... hmmmm. Why is it I look forward to Spring? Well, need to run to the drugstore to pick up some prescriptions. You have a great day with Pogo ... and stay warm :)

Hi Edna and Pogo,

I sure hope that you do not get the snow. When I lived in Arkansas I went to the feed store and bought a lot of burlap bags and I used them to cover my flowers. I placed rocks on the edges to keep the wind from blowing them away, then after the snow I just removed the rocks and shook the burlap bags free of the snow. Of course I couldn't use them on the bigger plants but they worked well on the ones just coming up. We had a late April snow and I was lucky enough to have time to go out and cover them. I had the most beautiful Cannas that year.

I am so jealous of your Spruce Trees.... Oh how I have always wanted one. Just one. But I never lived in a climate that would support them. I am glad that Spring is here but it has been cold here the last 2 days. I had to bring my indoor plants back inside yesterday. We actually had frost this morning!

Love your photos of the flowers. So pretty.
I hope that your first day of Spring was a great day! Love, Beth

Sometimes the weatherpeople have it wrong. So let us hope they are this time hey?
And even if you get some snow, it probably will be the last for a long time.
It just needs to warm up a few degrees more here, to have a nice temps to work in the garden. Not all our seeds seem to do well, but with all the bulbs we have to plant also, I guess we still will have enough flowers this summer.
No idea what I will do today, I am making no plan, better to just let it happen.
This evening I will make us thin noodles with lots of beggies in it and one or two fried eggs, all rather healthy and also tasty and quick.
LOL.
Have a lovely day
