Sunshine And Irises

May 18, 2021

Good morning.  Goodness, I slept late today.  The sun is shining, there are clouds rolling by, and the temperature is 73F degrees.  Nice!  It feels like a porch day.

Here's a photo of my pretty yellow irises.  It makes the heart happy just looking at them.

A few days ago, Deanne was driving through the park and took a pretty photo of the waterfall.  I was going to post it here, but first it needed to be resized.  This is a beautiful spot and lots of folks come here.

Sad to say, just a couple days later two young boys drowned here.  They had been skipping stones on the water and must have fallen in.  Divers were called in to try to find the boys.  I'm not sure how deep the water is here, but the boys were found ten to twelve feet below the water.  According to news clippings, there was a third boy found and taken to a nearby hospital.  I don't have any more information about this boy.

There is no way to go from this awful news to a cheery topic, so I'll stop right here and save my pics and news for tomorrow.  Till then, stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Keeping An Eye On Nutrition

May 17, 2021

Good morning.  The sun is shining and my phone app says today will be a super day with temps near seventy degrees.  I'm hoping to spend some time on the porch today.  Yesterday was a gorgeous day but I spent more than half of it under my covers with chills.  Where they came from I have no idea, but by mid afternoon I was feeling much better.

Yesterday, Deanne picked up some small sub rolls for me so I made a ham, cheese and lettuce sub sandwich for lunch.  Mmmm, tasted so good that I had another one later for my supper.  One of the perks of being elderly is being able to eat whatever you want for your meals.  Of course, that's as long as you don't look at the "Nutrition" labels.

Later today I think I'll start my new notebook that lists the foods that I "can have" or most importantly "want to have" and their nutritional values.  I understand the value of eating only "healthy" foods, but I have no intentions of living on fish and nuts.  My compromise is that I will TRY to stay fairly close to what I should have (nutritionally).

Thanks, Robyn.  You gave me such a wonderful giggle when I read your comment regarding keeping a dying plant alive.  I could easily just buy another mosquito plant, but my nature is to do whatever it takes to keep this one alive.  Obviously, it's not going to ward off any mosquitos this year, but then maybe it will be big enough next year to scare a few.

I didn't do any crocheting yesterday, but I did demolish a ton of junk mail.  Last night, I decided to polish off that last bottle of beer that has been in my refrigerator for some time now.  I don't know if it was a good idea or not because it put me to sleep even before I finished all of it.  Can you tell, I'm a cheap date?

This afternoon I'll get back to my crocheting.  And I'll go out and take some photos of my beautiful yellow irises.  They don't last very long, but they sure are pretty. Here's an image that I borrowed from the web to share.  It's a great thought to live by.

And here's another beautiful image that I borrowed from the web.  It's so easy to make a difference in someone's life.  And it doesn't cost anything to Care.

Now I think I'll do some blog reading.  Then I'm off to find some fun mischief to get into.  So, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Warmer Temps Are Finally Here

May 16, 2021

Good morning.  Today is going to be another nice day.  Yesterday was warm and sunny, and I spent hours out on the porch.  My phone app says we're going to be getting rain starting mid afternoon.   And more tomorrow.

Yesterday I noticed that my yellow irises are starting to bloom.  I'll have to take a photo today to share.  The new columbine plant is getting ready to bloom too.  Deanne was here the other day, re-potting plants and making sure everything looked really pretty.  Our new garden birds came.  Here's a photo of my blue Heron.

I have a couple pink flamingoes in one of the little gardens, and I think we're going to move them over here near the heron.  I really like seeing the birds near my porch.  It sort of makes it feel a bit tropical.

My little mosquito plant is not looking very good.  When it arrived in the mail, it was in pretty bad shape.  I've picked the dead leaves off, so now it is just a stem trying to become something.  Here's a photo before I plucked all the dead stuff off it.

It's looking cloudy outside, so I guess that rain is really coming our way.  Well, my car is covered with green from all the new leaves so I'm hoping that the rain gives my car a good washing.   That's the only downfall from having so many trees.  When all the little leaf seed pods start opening, everything gets a green coating.

My plans for today don't include much other than doing a bit of crocheting.  Both of the wraps that I'm working on have less than twenty rows to go till it's time to start making the pockets.  When they are finished, I'll see if Deanne will model them so that I can take photos.

Well, that's about all my news for today.  So, till next time, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

The Oxygen Is All Set Again

May 14, 2021

Good morning.  Today will be warmer with lots of sunshine.  I see a lot of porch time coming up.  First, though, I have a couple phone calls to make.

Yesterday, the fellow from the oxygen supply company finally showed up at seven o'clock last evening.  And when he pulled into my yard, he blocked the whole driveway.  I asked him to move his truck up a bit so as not to block my driveway and he was not happy with me.  He did, however, finally move his truck.

The problem with the machine turned out to be the new cannula that I had recently purchased.  It was super soft and kept getting twisted.  This in turn was cutting off the oxygen.  While the fellow was here, he changed the filter in my machine.  I had never seen this done before and told him so.  He insisted that they had been doing it every year.

He gave me a couple new cannulas and was on his way. However, when I went to attach the new cannula (which is in two pieces)  to the machine, there was no connector piece to hold the two pieces together.  So what else is new?

I was going online to order some connector pieces from Amazon when I thought to look in some stuff that I had brought back with me from Florida last year.  Lucky me, there were two connector pieces.  These had been given to me by the oxygen supply fellow in Kissimmee while I was there on vacation.  I wonder if that man realized what a super gift he had given me.

So, now my machine is all set up and I'm doing much better.  Today I will call my insurance company to let them know the type of maintenance they (and me) are paying for.  I think when a person is reliant on oxygen, the maintenance company should pay better attention to how they maintain the equipment.

Enough of my crabbies.  I've been looking around for quite a while for a certain color yarn and I finally found some that was similar this morning and I ordered it.  Nope, I don't need it.  But I can make something really pretty with it.

Meanwhile, I'm working on the Luffa and the Raspberry pocket wraps.  Now I'm thinking that I might want to make one in brown tones for a man.  Yes, folks.  Even the older gents enjoy having something to put around their shoulders and back when they are watching TV on a cool evening.  And I think a wrap in medium brown will be very handsome.

I borrowed this image from the web.  It's a great way to start the day, being thankful to be here.  And now I'm off to do some blog reading before heading out to the porch.  So, till Sunday, Y'all be safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Always Something To Keep Me Busy

May 13, 2021

Good morning.  Today should be the beginning of a string of nice days.  I'm looking forward to spending some time out on my porch.  In a couple hours, I'll take my crocheting and a cup of coffee out there and spend some time watching the birds and little critters.

My breathing has been getting increasingly worse these past few days.  This morning I found the reason.  My large oxygen concentrator was not putting out any oxygen.  All this time I've been thinking that my meds might need to be adjusted, and it was all because I was not getting any oxygen.

I did call the company that owns the machine, and they were trying to fix it over the phone.  They are supposed to do maintenance checks on their equipment at least twice a year.  I don't ever see them unless I call them to come out.  They finally said that they would be out sometime today.  That could mean as late as eight o'clock tonight.  (yup, they have come out that late before)

I think once they fix this machine, I'm going to call my insurance company and let them know about the lousy service they are paying for.  I would buy my own machines but they are very expensive.  Plus, I would need to find out who would be servicing them.

On a happy note, my new tomato plants look awesome.  The netting that I had ordered to cover them with was supposed to be here now but for some reason it got held up somewhere.  Now it is supposed to be here by Monday.  I hope so.  My big tomato plant has a few yellow blossoms on it.  If they turn into tomatoes, I'd like to keep them for myself.  (not the critters)

The Columbine plant has buds getting ready to blossom.  Within days, I think.  I'll be sure to take a photo to share.

Today is going to be really busy.  I have a grocery order coming shortly after lunch.  Most of that will go into the big freezer.  Then I'll be all set again for a while.  Maybe this afternoon I'll start working on those new food charts.  We'll see.

For now, I'm going to make a cup of coffee and do a bit of blog reading.  I have some catching up to do.  So, till next time, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

The Heart's Still Ticking

May 12, 2021

Good morning.  It's looking really pretty outside my door this morning.  The sun is shining and temps will be in the upper fifties today.  Starting tomorrow, temps go up a bit more.  Woo Hoo!

Well, I still have to talk with Mr. Dave.  When I called him, the line was busy and I got side-tracked.  I did get some other important calls made.  And, my doctor called to say that the results from me wearing the heart monitor came back.  All good news.

I do, however, have to work on lowering my cholesterol count.  I'm amazed that I got to be as old as I am considering that I never watched what I was eating.  I was never a fish and nuts person.  I'm still not.  I'm more a pasta person.

Ah well, I'll figure it out.  I'll need to make a new chart that shows the amounts of sodium and cholesterol in everything that I eat.  Hopefully, I'll still be able to enjoy some of my favorite meals.

On a fun note, are any of you bird lovers?  Can you identify this pretty little bird?  It landed on the fence in Audrey's yard and she took this photo.  She's never seen it before, and I'm not sure what it is.

I found several birds in my books that look somewhat like this bird, but I can't say for sure just what it is.  Any ideas?

Here's another pretty picture.  This is Deanne's new rose bush.  Such a beauty!

The two pocket wraps that I'm working on are coming along.  They each have less than forty rows to go before I make the pockets.  Yesterday the pink yarn that I had ordered came so that will be the next one that I make.

Today is "Blue Bloods" marathon on TV so guess what I'll be watching all day.  On that note, I'm off to make a hot cup of coffee to enjoy while I'm watching TV.  So, till next time, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

My Wonky Laptop

May 10, 2021

Good morning.  Tis gray and nippy this morning.  I gave in and put the heat back on this morning.  Cool temps might be great for sleeping but they are not so nice for coming out from under the covers.  Mother Nature is having a hard time getting Spring to share her nice warm temps wth us.

Yesterday was a beautiful day, although it was a tad bit on the cool side with a slight breeze.  DIL Janet came by and brought me a beautiful plant to hang on my porch.  It is soooo nice to see all these colorful blossoms outside my door.

And I promised to show you what Audrey sent me.  It's a Cardinal windchime.  I love the Cardinals, and now I have my own family of them living on my porch.

Folks, I'm going to have to cut this post short.  I started typing almost two hours ago, then my laptop went all funky.  It took a while to get it to shut off, then to turn it back on.  It seems there must have been a Windows update taking place.

If I'm not here tomorrow, I'll be back soon.  I want to call Mr. Dave this morning to see if he can fix this thing.  So, stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

HAPPY MOTHERS' DAY

May 9, 2021

Good morning.  Happy Mothers' Day to all the Moms out there.  I wish you all a fantastic day full of hugs and smiles.

Yesterday, Deanne and Eddie and I went to Home Depot to pick out tomato plants.  I got two, one large one and one a bit smaller.  This morning I ordered two plant nets from Amazon to cover my tomato plants.  This year, maybe I can eat some tomatoes from my plants.  I also bought a few flowering plants and a large hanging pot of petunias for my porch.

On the way home, we stopped at Ocean State Job Lot where I bought a few snack treats.  That proved to be a bit too much walking for me so we headed home.  After all the bundles were put away, the kids surprised me with a beautiful new planter (and plant).

It a gorgeous pink Flamingo and an orange Hibiscus plant.  I've never seen an orange Hibiscus before!  I'll have to take some close up photos of it later in the week to share.  This morning I ordered some Hibiscus plant food from Amazon.

After breakfast this morning, I opened the box that Audrey sent me.  Oh my!  I'll leave this surprise for tomorrow's post because I want to take a photo of it first  to share here.  Between phone calls, texts and cards, I've heard from all my friends and loved ones.  I'm a happy old lady today!

I did take photos of my other new plants, but now I have to crop them so that I can share them here.  Later this week, Deanne will come over and help me re-pot a few things.  Hopefully, we'll be able to re-pot some of my Aloe Vera plant.  It's been going hog wild popping up new plants.

This weekend Deanne and Eddie are also celebrating their Anniversary.  I wish you a Happy Anniversary and many more happy years together.  I love you.

Now I'm going outside to see how my new plants made it through the night.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Another Day In The Life Of A PEP

May 7, 2021

Good morning.  I'm sleeping late these days.  It's those toasty blankets that are to blame.  Right?  It's 59F degrees right now.  Tomorrow morning it will be ten degrees cooler.  I'm thinking that the warmer temps won't be here for a few more weeks.  And right after that it will be Summer.

We are becoming a two season world.  We seem go from Winter to Summer and from Summer to Winter.  Spring and Autumn have become very short seasons.  That's really kind of sad because these are two very beautiful seasons.

Enough of my crabbing.  I've been doing a little crocheting, and now both the Luffa and the Raspberry pocket wraps are at least one row past the half mark.  Every now and then I pick one of them up and add a  few rows.  The pink yarn should be here maybe by Tuesday, and I've already thought of one more color that I should have ordered.  Looks like I'll be busy for a while with my wraps.

I found this absolutely adorable image on the web and I just have to share it.  The words "tired" and "nap" seem to define me, and maybe a lot of other folks too.  So, I guess this makes me some form of Permanently Exhausted Pigeon.  (a PEP)

This is definitely me.  In my retirement, I've become a PEP.  Do you suppose it's because I was so busy and was into so many things all my life?  As soon as I stopped being so busy, the bottom fell out of my energy bucket.  Ah well, as long as I don't have to fly too far too fast, I'm okay.

Tomorrow, Deanne and I are going shopping for tomato plants.  And I want a few potted plants too.  It's Mothers' Day this weekend, and I'm going to treat myself to some pretty blossoms for my porch.

Now I'm going to do a bit of blog reading.  Before I leave, let me share this cute joke.  (It can be found in a children's joke book from Dover Publishing.)

I'm wishing all the Moms out there in Blogger Land a beautiful weekend.  See you Sunday.

Hugs, Edna B.

Google Can Be Very Interesting

May 6, 2021

Good morning.  Today is supposed to be really nice, but I'm still not warmed up from the cold night.  I think I may have turned the heat off a bit too soon.   It's not easy coming out from under the nice warm blankets in the morning.

This morning I'm thinking about housedresses.  I don't know why.  The word just popped into my head.  My mother always wore them.  I wear a version of them.  This morning I looked them up on Google and found lots of really interesting things about them.

The housedress is a dress that is worn at home, and can be worn other places too.  Over the years, there have been other versions that are also very comfortable.  There is the patio dress, the muu muu, the duster, the maxi dress, the nap dress (for napping), the dressing gown, the shift dress, the caftan, and the uniform house dress, just to mention some of them.

Woman Within catalogue has some called "lounge dresses."  I like these.  I have two of them and I'm working on getting two more.  They are super comfortable and go everywhere.

Ever wonder where Google gets all its information?  Normally I don't.  But when you look up something, you can usually find other topics of interest at the end of the item you are reading. One item of interest listed after the "housedresses" was "Bikinis for Plus Size women."  Really?

I'm finding out that one of the problems my laptop is having is with Photoshop CC.  It doesn't play well with Windows anymore.  I'm thinking of getting rid of this program and maybe getting the shorter version, Photoshop Elements.  I'll have to think about this.

It's getting close to noon so I'm going to see what's for lunch.  Before I go, here's a really cute image that I borrowed from the web to share with you.

So, till next time, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Finally Shutting Off The Heat

May 4, 2021

Good morning.  Today is gray and wet with cooler temps.  It's a good day to stay indoors and do crafts.  Our world is changing to lots of green.  So many different shades of green.  It's really quite beautiful.

Last night I worked on the pocket wraps.  About twenty more rows to go on each of them and they'll each be at the half mark.  Eighty rows.  I may have to pick another color and make an extra one.  These wraps will be almost done when the pink yarn gets here and it's more fun working on two wraps at the same time.  Gee!  Such a predicament!

I just went to Google to look up a specific pattern and WOW!  There are so many beautiful crochet sweater patterns out there!  I will have to spend some serious time looking into some of these.

My cousin Anita has made lots of Granny Squares and was looking to make something other than a blanket with them.  I thought I might find a book with lots of different ideas for her.  That will be a project for this afternoon.

Because the temps lately have finally been warmer, I shut off the heat to the house.  This tends to make it a bit chilly during the night, but oh my it makes for a better sleep.  This morning I woke up early then went right back to sleep for a few more hours.

As for my ill-behaved laptop, it is just slow today.  I'm not complaining.  At least it is not making me crazy.  This is what is called "picking my battles."  As long as it is only running a bit slow and not causing all sorts of grief for me, we will get along just fine.  It's the grief I can't handle.  I will talk with Mr. Dave about re-setting the updates.

There's really nothing new happening, so let me share this with you before I leave to read some blogs.  (image borrowed from the web)

And here's a giggle to enjoy with your morning coffee.

Now I'm off to check out some of my favorite blogs.  Till next time, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Sunshine Is For Kitty Kats

May 3, 2021

Good morning.  It's starting out as a gray morning.  My phone app says today's temps should reach sixty degrees with light rain.  It's a far cry from yesterday's gorgeous sunny warm temps in the low seventies.

Deanne and Eddie came by yesterday with their grandchildren.  Gosh. the kids are getting so big.  They had a grand time looking for and collecting pine cones.  They took a bag full of them home with them to paint at a later date.

Speaking of pine cones, my yard is layered with pine needles.  Our house cat, Blackie, loves to lay on these needles and roll around in the sun.  Maybe they scratch his back while he is rolling around?  Here's a photo of him from yesterday.  After he rolls around in the needles, he looks up as if to say "Ooh, this feels so good!"

There's not much happening here.  I made a few phone calls yesterday, then ordered the yarn for the third new pocket wrap.  I decided on a light pink.  It's called Ballerina.

These wraps and the baby blanket should keep me busy for a while.  After they are done, I want to look for a new project.

Have you seen the new Subaru Forester TV commercial with the family of dogs out riding in the car?  It is really adorable.  I love it when the dog driving the truck barks back at the puppy in the car.  This commercial is a breath of fresh air after all the crappy ones that are being aired.

There's not much news for today so I'm going to get a cold bottle of water and enjoy some blog reading.  Till next time, stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Welcome To May

May 2, 2021

Good morning.  Say hello to this beautiful new month!  Happy Belated May Day!  Here's the May page from my calendar.

Well, I have to say that Friday's medical appointments were the best I've had in quite a while.  First we went to the lab to have the blood work done.  The girl drawing the blood was super quick with the needle.  She was in and out with no pain at all.  Then we went to meet with my doctor's nurse practitioner, Judy.

She turned out to be really nice.  She listened, and talked with you - not at you.  Actually, everyone in this office seems to be really nice.  And all my test numbers came out good.  My blood pressure is a little high so Judy prescribed a new medicine for it.   Later this month, I'll meet my new primary care  doctor.  If she's nice too, then I will have hit the jackpot!

Friday I also started another pocket wrap.  This one is Raspberry and might be for my cousin Anita.  I took a photo to show you so that I can explain a tip that I forgot to mention when I posted the pattern.  There are a lot of rows to this wrap, so I place a safety pin every twenty rows to help me keep count.  As you can see in the photo, I have a pin in the first and last stitch of the current row, and another pin keeping track of how many rows I've already done.

There's not much of interest on the TV this morning, so I've been watching Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood.  It's a really cute children's program.  In a little while, I'll switch over to BUZZR channel.  (old game shows)  I did not turn on the laptop all day yesterday.  So, today I have some catching up to do with my blog reading.

This morning when I turned on my laptop, it was in a snooty mood, and was not playing nice with me.  I tried to size a photo in Photoshop and for some reason, the program got stuck and would not work.  Nor would it shut off.  I finally had to use the power button to shut off my laptop.  All of this took more than an hour.

When I finally turned the laptop back on, a Windows update was just finishing being installed.  Folks, I'll bet anything that this is the real problem here.  These Windows updates are driving me crazy.  I'm tempted to buy another laptop, but I don't think there's anything wrong with my laptop.  It's Windows that is causing all the problems.

So, that's my news for today.  Hopefully, (laptop willing) I'll be back tomorrow.  Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.
