Saying Farewell To August

August 31, 2018

Good morning.  Today is looking to be a gorgeous day here in New England.  Lots of sunshine and temps in the seventies topped off with a really nice breeze.  It is supposed to be like this tomorrow too.  Awesome!

Have you noticed today's date?  Yup, another whole month gone by.  Would you believe there are only four more months left in this year?  Wow, the older I get, the faster time goes by.  Now the busy season starts.  There's a card and a calendar to design, projects to finish, and three holidays to prepare for.  And the bulk of this all has to be done in only three months.

Yesterday I thought I might get a lot done here, but it was not meant to to be.  Instead, it was a restful day.  I paid a batch of bills, made some important phone calls and a few other things.  That was my limit for the day.

The first thing I'll do today is a couple loads of laundry.  One for my clothes, and another for Pogo's blankets.  If I haven't run out of steam after that, I'll put in a load of towels.  Last night I started a new dolly dress in Lavender, so tonight I'll probably work on that.

This week, my cousin Ellen had a birthday.  I wanted to go visit with her this week, but I just did not have a chance, so today I'll call her and we'll visit via the phone.   Here's a photo of Ellen with one of her great grandbabies.  Happy Birthday Ellen.  I hope your big day was awesome!

I also thought I might share photos of some of my great grandchildren.  In this first photo, Jack Jack, Lilah and Alima are staying cool and enjoying the last week before school starts.

In this photo, Xander and Aurora are looking quite cool as they enjoy their lunch.

Yesterday's mail brought a few new catalogues.  One of them has the neatest tee shirts!  This is one of them.  It's for all us folks who continue to diet every now and then.

Hahahaha!  I've given up on dieting though.  After looking back on all the women in my mother's family, I'm about the right size for me to fit right in.  This body has worked hard all these years, and it has given me five beautiful children.  It still works hard to keep me and Pogo going.  Somehow, skinny just doesn't seem to be very important anymore.

Well, I've finished my coffee, and now I want to do a bit of blog reading before I go looking for some mischief to get into.  So, till Sunday, Y'all stay cool and have a fantabulous weekend.  See you in September!

Hugs, Edna B.

Happy BIrthday Kevin

August 30, 2018

Good morning.  Today looks really pretty outside my door, and the temps are cooling down today to the low to mid eighties.  Awesome!  Tomorrow should be in the seventies.  Wowsie!    I have to do some grocery shopping, so I'm really appreciating these cooler temps.

Sadly, I also have to pick up refills of my breathing meds.  Would you believe that my co-pay for these two meds is almost nine hundred dollars?  Thankfully, this is for a three month subscription.  I think I'm going to look into Hemp Oil.  It seems to be good for a lot of things, so maybe it can be used as a breathing medicine.  That would be nice because it is a whole lot cheaper than man made drugs.  If anyone is already using it, please let me know what you think of it.

Well, in the midst of all the madness these past couple of days, my grandson Kevin had a milestone birthday.  Kevin turned twenty one a couple days ago!  Our two pound miracle baby is all grown up and is quite a handsome and really nice young man.

Here are photos of Kevin, first starting to play basketball, then at a picnic gathering with his Mom (Deanne) and then at work with his Dad (Eddie - they are electricians).

Kevin, I'm so proud of the young man you've become.  I'm wishing you much love and happiness.  Happy Birthday Kevin.  I love you.

Yesterday I got up at 5:10 a.m. to be ready for the delivery of the refrigerators.  Deanne called me shortly thereafter to make sure I was up.  I had received a call letting me know that the delivery would be between 7:15 a.m. and 9:15 a.m.

I was taking no chances and was going to be ready by 7 a.m.  Thank goodness because they were here before 8:30.  Wow, I have to say that these two young fellows were awesome and very professional.  That big old side by side went right out the door and down off the porch without a problem.  Then the new fridge came in.

Next they took out the other fridge (in the main part of the house) and replaced it with a new one.  In between installing it, they had to move my tall freezer over about an inch and bring it forward about two inches.  They did, and everything fit perfectly.

As soon as they left, Deanne got here to help me put away all the food stuffs in both fridges.  I took care of my stuff and Deanne put away the tenants' food stuff.  Deanne, you are a blessing, and I really appreciate your help.  Afterwards, I was able to rest a while before starting to put things back in their places.  (my rooms are small so a lot of things had to be moved to make room for the delivery guys to do their job.)

Around 1:30 in the afternoon, Pogo took up his place by the door to watch for when Joe comes home.  It' was going to be a while, at least a couple hours.  After a while, Pogo lay down on the scatter rug he was sitting on, put his nose down into the rug and fell sound asleep.  He never saw Joe's truck pull into the driveway.  He did get his treat though, because Joe called out to him.  The heat has been hard on Pogo too.

On another happy note, I had ordered some yarn and it arrived a couple of days ago.  This order included enough yard to make another new afghan.  A Grey one.  I won't start it until after I get my Christmas projects finished, but I'll have the yarn for when I need it.

I've never made a grey afghan, and Herrschners came out with a new variegated color - Tunnel Vision.  Here are the colors for the Grey afghan.  Medium Grey, Dark Grey and Tunnel Vision.  I think this afghan is going to be really pretty.

Now it's time to do a bit of blog reading and start in on a few chores.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay cool and have a fantabulous day.

Hmmm, Always Measure BEFORE You Buy!

August 28, 2018

Good morning.  Here come the wicked muggies!  Summer is going to go out with a super hot bang!  The sun is shining and temps are already close to eighty degrees.  In a couple more hours temps will be in the mid nineties.  Pogo and I won't be leaving the house till the temps drop down again.

I think I may have found a problem this morning.  I just went out into the house to measure the refrigerator's width, and it's not quite as wide as the one coming in.  Hmmm, I'll have to see if Joe can move my tall freezer over an inch or two to make a little more room for the fridge.  Well, no sense worrying about it just yet.

I've been channel surfing lately, and I've found that Hallmark channel also has a lot of the old TV shows on.  This morning, I've watched "I Love Lucy" and now "The Golden Girls" is on.   They have other old shows, but I haven't seen them yet.

Yesterday, I filled a couple more bags of recycle stuff.  I just have to take them out to the recycle bin.  Today I'm hoping to fill a couple more bags.  Last night, I took a break and went online to pick up a few new scrap kits.  Once the new refrigerators are in place, I'm going to set aside a whole day to just play on my laptop with my new kits.

Folks, tomorrow I have a lot to do to get ready for the delivery of the refrigerators, so I won't be posting here.  I'll be back on Thursday.  So I thought I'd post tomorrow's quick page today.  This one is plain, but I was trying out a new frame that I liked.  I hope you can use it.

A Word A Day Keeps The Brain Young (I Think)

August 27, 2018

Good morning.  Well, the wicked heat is back.  It was warm all through the night, so I really did not get a lot of sleep at one time.  It was sort of in snatches.  Tomorrow and Wednesday are supposed to be really sizzling, with temps close to or around one hundred degrees.  Then it should cool down a few degrees.

Isn't it amazing how we wait for summer to get here and then it's so hot and muggy that we can't enjoy it after all.  Of course, I can't speak for the younger folks, but for those of us with respiratory problems the muggy high temps create a lot of problems for us.

On to a brighter note, I think I might be making a bit of progress here.  It almost looks like I actually did something over the past few days.  Now if I could figure out how to not get sidetracked so easily I might make a bit more progress.

Yesterday I came across a book that was my hubby's.  It's titled "Words You Should Know" and it lists 1200 essential words every educated person should be ale to use and define.  (author - David Olsen)  There used to be a store called "Buck A Book" in a nearby town, and Michael and I used to love to go there.  We always came home with a bag of books.  Here are a few words from this book.

abjure (ab-JOOR), verb:  To renounce, repudiate, or reject one's word or professed beliefs.  To abjure is to solemnly swear off or recant.  EX:  After some soul-searching, following his financial and domestic problems, Brad abjured drinking and gambling.

abnegate (AB-ne-gate), adjective:  To renounce, surrender, or deny privilege to oneself.  Abnegation is the act of denying oneself something considered vital or important.  Hunger strikes or long fasts are a form of abnegation.  EX:  The activist's fast lasted for 47 days; in an election year, such abnegation draws headlines and attention from elected officials.

If you find this interesting, I'll post a few words every now and then.  As for me, I enjoy learning new things all the time.  I may not use all the words in this book, but it's interesting (to me) to understand them.

Sometime during the night (last night) I had a dream about a deer.  It came over by my porch to check out my plants.  This morning, I got a photo from my archives that shows the morning visitors I used to see when I was working.  It was foggy that morning, and the deer were frolicking in the field across the street.  I miss mornings like this.

Before I get started on today's chore's, I'll post another beautiful coloring page from Dover.  I hope you have fun with it.

Now I'm off to see how much mischief I can get into today.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Time Really Hasn't Changed My Little Guy

August 26, 2018

Good morning.  It's looking really beautiful outside my door today.  Right now, temps are around seventy degrees, with lots of sunshine and a nice little breeze.  In a few more hours it will be much warmer, but right now is awesome.

Before I forget, I had a request for the name of the TV channel that has all those wonderful programs from many years ago.  It's called "Decades."  I found it quite by accident, and I' so glad I did.

Yesterday was another busy day for me.  Of course, busy for me and busy for you are most likely two different things.  I move slowly and have to do things in segments.  And I get sidetracked a lot.  I guess that's my biggest problem.  Getting sidetracked.  But that's okay, things can wait till  tomorrow.

Once the new refrigerators get here, I'll have to do a bit of grocery shopping.  For now, I'm only getting the most important things.  Joe is going shopping in a little while, and he will pick up the hamburgers and turkey treat for Pogo.  And popsicles.  I lost a lot of my popsicles when the refrigerator/freezer stopped working.  Melting popsicles just don't do if for me.

I dug a couple photos from my 2012 archives.  This was my Pogo the year I got him.  You might recognize these photos from my last Christmas card.  Pogo was singing away, and in between, giving me a piece of his mind.

It's been six years, and Pogo hasn't changed a bit.  At least in my eyes.  He still acts like a puppy, and he still enjoys going places and meeting people.  About the biggest change is his diet.  He used to eat some dog food.  That's not an option any more, and it's okay with me.

Today I have another quick page for you.  This one is whimsical and just for fun.  I hope you like it.

Ouch! I Got Hacked!

August 24, 2018

Good morning.  Today will be another gorgeous summer day with temps reaching up into the low eighties.  Starting tomorrow, temps will be warming up straight through the next week.  There's still another month of Summer to come, with lots of warm sunny days.  Enjoy it because after that comes Fall.

Well, yesterday I was busy most all day.  Granted, it doesn't look as though I actually did anything, but I assure you that I did.  I'm hoping that when I get finished today, it will look like I really did accomplish something.  In all fairness to myself, I did manage to get rid of a whole bunch of plastic containers and covers, a bag of trash and another bag for the recycle bin.

I got an email last night from one of my credit cards asking me if a particular purchase was mine.  It was nothing I remembered, so yup!  I've been hacked!  My card has been cancelled and a new one will be mailed to me.

Next week, after the new refrigerators are in place, I'm going to treat myself to a whole afternoon of just playing on my laptop and making new quick pages.   I find it very relaxing and enjoyable.  And, because I still have quite a few already in my folder, I'm posting an extra quick page for you today.

I had a very pretty frame just begging to be put on a page, and I really love animals, so voila!  It all adds up to a new quick page.  I hope you like it.

Oh wow, I found a new (for me) channel on TV, and I've been having a wonderful time enjoying a lot of the old programs from the 50's, 60's and 70's.  They just showed a commercial for an Edsel.  Remember that car?  Last night I watched several segments from the "Ed Sullivan Show."  Right now, I'm watching "Our Miss Brooks."

Now I'm off to do a bit of blog reading before I start another busy day.  So, till Sunday, Y'all have a fantabulous weekend.

A New Fridge Coming Soon

August 23, 2018

Good morning.  It's really cool this morning with a breeze, quite refreshing.  Later on, temps will get up into the mid to upper seventies.  I think the seventies are the ideal temps for year round.  Hmmm, just dreaming.

Well, I did a little bit more work here late yesterday, but now it looks like I just made a bigger mess for myself to clean.  sighhhhh.  Housekeeper is not my middle name!  I'll be busy today, that's for sure.

Tomorrow, I'm hoping to go back to the car dealership and get my regular safety sticker.  I also need to pick up the paint I had ordered to fix a small nick on my car.  I don't know who put the nick there, but I don't like it.  My car still looks new and I want to keep it that way as long as I can.

Recently, while poking around on the web, I found a really pretty crochet pattern for a shawl.  This one is called "Half Granny Square Shawl." (pattern by Churchmouse)  Isn't this pretty?  And it looks so easy to make.  I think I might like to make one later this Fall.  If you want the pattern, you can find it on Google.

I also joined a web site called "I Like Crochet."  They have tons of beautiful patterns, and the membership price is very low. (and currently is half price)  Now I can't wait to have some time to sit and go through some of their patterns.  Not today though.  Too much already to do.

Yesterday, I spent quite a bit of time on the phone and ended up ordering two new refrigerators.  One for the house and one for me.  They will be delivered next week (my choice of dates) so now I have to make sure there is a clear path for the delivery men to be able to take my old refrigerator out.  It is quite large, and when it came in here, there was no porch outside the door.

My new fridge is going to be much smaller.  With just Pogo and me, I really don't need a big fridge.  Besides, it won't take up as much room and it will be easier to clean.  I can use the extra room in my kitchen.

Well, that's all my news for this morning.  Now I think I'll make a fresh cup of coffee and do a bit of blog reading.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Zlata Goes Camping

August 22, 2018

Good afternoon.  Today is really nice.  Temps are hitting the low eighties, the sun is shining and there's a bit of a breeze.  It did rain a bit during the night, because my plants were wet this morning and there are some puddles.

My new cleaning lady showed up at 9:30 this morning.  She was early, so she watched TV while I had my coffee.  (I had only been up a few minutes when she arrived)  We had planned on working in the back room today, but instead we did a bunch of things in the kitchen and living room.  She is such a big help to me.

When she left, I went through a large batch of magazines, catalogues and junk mail.  Now I'm tired.  I wasn't watching for the mailman, so I hope I did not miss him.  I have bills that need to go out in the mail today.

I'm not going to chat much today because I have a lot of things to put away now, and I'll need to sit and rest after a while after that.  I do have a new quick page for you though.  By now you must know that I love this little character, Zlata.

Unfortunately, she only comes in so many poses, and if I want a different pose then I have to take her into Photoshop and try to rearrange her body parts.  That's what I had to do with this quick page.  Even though it took me a while to make this page, I had a lot of fun.  I hope you like it.

Imagine! Calling My Refrigerator An Antique!!

August 21, 2018

Good morning.  Well, here I am, late again!  I just did not want to come out of my comfy snoozing this morning.  The cool air felt so good.  I even pulled my blanket over me for a little while.  Woo Hoo!

Yesterday I spent quite a bit of time on the phone making calls to refrigerator repair companies.  It seems no one could come out right away, and the last one told me to call a company in Georgia (I live in Massachusetts) called 'Antique Appliances."  Is she calling my refrigerator an antique?

I know my refrigerator is twenty one years old, but it has been working just fine all this time.  Till now.  My daughter Deanne told me to "count my blessings that it has lasted this long."  After giving the matter a lot of thought, I've decided to just order a new one.  I'll also get a new one for the main house.  The second refrigerator out there is also needing to be replaced.  Hopefully, this will be the last thing that the house needs this year.

Just as I was getting ready to start cleaning my refrigerator, there was a knock on the door.  It was my new cleaning lady.  Oh thank you, thank you, thank you.  She is such a blessing.  She cleaned the refrigerator, the bathroom and a did a few other little things before it was time for her to leave.  I kept busy cleaning out containers so that they could go out in the recycle bin, and what ever else I could do until I finally had to go sit down.

Afterwards, I did a bit of measuring things like doorways, the refrigerator, etc.  I'm trying to think of how the old one will go out and the new one will come in.  My apartment is very small, so a lot of things will have to be moved so that these appliances can be taken out and/or brought in.  Yeesh!

Today I dug a couple photos from my archives.  I love butterflies, and we haven't had very many of them around here this year.  They are so beautiful!

Now I think I'll get busy and find some mischief to get into.  Goodness knows there's enough to choose from!  First though, I'll do a bit of blog reading.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay cool and have a fantabulous day.

Another Busy Day Ahead For Me

August 20, 2018

Good morning.  Tis another beautiful comfy day here in New England.  Temps will be in the low seventies all day with the sun coming out later today.  It's a great day for breathing!

I spent hours yesterday emptying out my refrigerator/freezer.  Anything that wasn't recent got tossed into big trash bags.  Other things were transferred to my big freezer or to a refrigerator out in the house.  Sad to say, the refrigerator that I transferred some of my food stuff to is also on its way out.  It will need to be replaced in the near future.

Today, I will make some calls to find me a repairman, and then I will be washing out the refrigerator.  As long as it is empty, this is a good time for a cleaning.  All except for the bottom inside.  I can't kneel so this will be a challenge.

Before I forget, I had a request for a missing quick page.  Please send me an email and I'll get you the missing links.  My email should be in my profile.  Please note, I do not always post the quick pages in numerical order.  I put them all in a folder and then post whichever one fits my mood or the occasion.  It might be easier to tell me which numbers you are missing.  They all have a number.

Today I have a coloring page for you.  This one features owls and is really pretty.  Coloring is very relaxing, so I hope you have fun with it.

I have a photo of a new ring that I bought, but first I want to explain my reason for buying it.  In my middle teens, I made a wonderful, lifelong friend.  She was the mother of my boyfriend, and she watched over me for the rest of her life.  Her name was Mary.  I called her "Dolly" or "My Mary."  Before she died, she gave me a ring.  She said she wanted to make sure that I got it.

Back in the early 1930's, My Mary's boyfriend (whom she later married) gave her a friendship ring, gold with an amethyst.  I wore that little gold ring until the band wore out, and then I had a new band put on it.  A couple weeks ago, I turned on the Jewelry Channel and they were showing a little gold ring with a citrine.  My birthstone.

The ring made me think of My Mary.  It looked so much like her ring, that I called up and ordered it.  Here's a photo of the two rings together.  My Mary's ring (on the right) is an antique now, and my new ring has an "antique" look about it.

Now I want to do a bit of blog reading before I get started on cleaning the refrigerator.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Anyone Want A Soggy Popsicle?

August 19, 2018

Good morning.  I'm getting a late start today.  Sleep felt good and I just did not want to get up yet.  Even Pogo slept late.  Today we are enjoying temps in the upper sixties and possibly some rain showers this afternoon.  Every now and then, the sun pokes out from behind the clouds.  It's really a lovely day.

You know the old expression "If anything can go wrong for me, it will."?  Well, it did.  I mean, life just wouldn't be right if everything went along smoothly and uncomplicated, now would it?  I've been noticing lately that things in my refrigerator just don't seem as cold as they normally should.  My popsicles were melting in the freezer.  Even though the freezer side is colder than the refrigerator side, neither side is its normal temperature.

Last night, I had to move my bottles of water into the freezer side to keep them cold.  No worry, they did not freeze, they just got nice and cold.  So now I have to put some of my food in one of the refrigerators out in the main house for a while.  Thank goodness for my stand up freezer out in the laundry room.  I rushed my soggy popsicles and a few other items out there.

Today I will have to start clearing out everything in my refrigerator and throwing out a lot of stuff.  Tomorrow is trash pickup day, so hopefully I can get a lot of this done in time for the pickup.  Once I get the fridge emptied and cleaned out, I can call in a repairman to see if it can be fixed.  If not, oh well!

I finally got a picture of the poster for the Fall musical that will be showing at the Paris Cabaret.  It will be "Gypsy" which is based on Gypsy Rose Lee's climb to stardom in Burlesque.  Our Jazzy will be playing Gypsy Rose Lee.  Although I've seen the original movie and read the book, I rented (and watched) the movie "Gypsy, The Musical" a couple weeks ago.  Now I can't wait to see it on stage.

After this show, there will be one featuring classic hits from Bandstand, and of course, the special Holiday show.  Naturally, I am hoping to go to both of these shows.  Folks, if you have friends or family living in the Stoughton, MA. area, tell them to try to go to at least one of the fabulous shows at Paris Cabaret.  I like to go on Saturday nights because then I can enjoy a great steak dinner along with the show.  I think the Sunday showings have a buffet.

Today I have another new quick page for you.  Patty Panda and her friend Herbert are enjoying cool fruit drinks at the Tiki Bar.  (Who names a frog Herbert???)

Now I'm off to do a bit of blog reading.  After that I'll phone my friend Beth.  She hasn't been feeling so good lately.  She caught a bug that is making its way around, and I'm hoping that she's feeling much better today.

So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Pogo's Appointment Went Well

August 17, 2018

Good morning.  Today's forecast is for temps hitting ninety, sunshine and possibly thundershowers.  Sounds like Summer in New England.  (it is!)  I did not have a good night sleeping.  Lots on my mind, and the air is quite muggy.  I'll have a lot of sleep to catch up on tomorrow night.

Well, Pogo had his appointment with his doctor.  Aside from losing about a half pound, he is looking pretty good.  She (Dr. Girello) seems to think it may have been due to the heat and mugginess, along with maybe the incident at the groomer's salon on Pogo's last visit.

Just to be on the safe side, Pogo had some blood work done to make sure his kidneys and everything else are all okay.  His doctor will call with the test results when they come in to her office.  Pogo was so happy to leave there and go hone that he left a couple specimens for the doctor.  This pleased his doctor because she was able to check them and confirmed that they looked good too.  Woo Hoo!

On our way home from the hospital, Pogo and I stopped at Wendy's and ordered some take out goodies for our supper.  When we left there, I pulled into Shaw's parking lot to try to get photos of the huge sun that was setting.

I wish I had my regular camera with me, but I did the best I could with my cell phone.  The sun was huge, and bright orange (even though it comes out white in the photos) with bright yellow around it.  Here are a few of the photos that I got.  I don't know where the spots on the photos came from unless it was from the sun.

Lately I've spent a little time playing on my laptop, making new quick pages.  However, now I have a problem.  The folder is getting too full, so I'm wondering if you all might like an extra one now and then.  I need to make room in the folder for the Fall quick pages.

This quick page is just for a lazy day.  Time for friends to get together and enjoy each other's company.  Have fun with it.

Woo Hoo! Pogo May Be On The Mend!

August 16, 2018

Good morning.  It was a warm sleeping night (temps in the seventies) so sleep came in patches.  Starting Saturday, night temps are supposed to drop down into the low sixties so we'll be able to catch up on lots of sleep then.

My good news today is that Pogo actually ate some food twice yesterday.  Gosh, it felt so good to see him eating.  I had opened a small can of chicken, and he had half of it for lunch and half of it for his supper.  We'll still see his doctor later today.  I just want to make sure that Pogo is okay.

I didn't get very much done yesterday.  When my little guy is not feeling right, my whole day goes upside down.  It's amazing how our fur babies affect us this way.  Ring, ring, ring.  His doctor just called to check on Pogo.  She wanted to know if he was still not eating and if I wanted to bring him in earlier to see her.  I told her about what he ate yesterday and how he is now and she will see him later this afternoon at his appointment.  She feels good about the fact that he is finally eating and drinking more water.  Me too.

DIL Janet came by yesterday afternoon after work, and brought a bag full of tasty goodies for our dessert.  Oh my, which ones to eat!  There was a box full of deliciously wicked cake slices, and a box of gorgeous cupcakes.  We each had one of the cake slices, and later I had one of them for a late night snack.  Of course, I sent some out to Joe too.

As for those cupcakes, I know that they are super delicious, so I just might not share them.  Hmmm, I'll have to give this a lot of thought.  I'm not a stingy person, but my goodness those cupcakes are light, heavenly bites of wicked good taste!  I tell myself this every time Janet brings these cupcakes, but then I end up sending half of them out to Joe.

I found an image on the web that I thought I'd share.  The message may be a bit brash, but it definitely gets the point across.

It really bothers me to see folks texting and talking on their cell phone while they are driving.  It makes me wonder which innocent persons are not going to make it home to their families because of the accident that's going to happen.  So remember, when you are driving, put your phone away.  Hopefully, one of these days, we can pass a law making it illegal nationwide (to be talking and texting with your phone in your hand while driving), and punishable by more than a slap on the wrist.

My car has blue tooth, so I never have to touch my phone to answer a call.  If your car does not have this, you can purchase a unit very inexpensively. It will clip onto your visor and allow you to answer calls without touching your phone.  Remember, unless the call is extremely important, it can wait until you have stopped driving or until you get home.

As for texting, that's a definite NO NO! while you are driving.  This really does kill people!

Now I want to finish my coffee and do a bit of blog reading.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Happy Birthday Hailey

August 15, 2018

Good morning.  It's starting out a bit on the cloudy side, but the sun looks as if it is trying really hard to come out from behind the clouds.  It looks like temps will stay in the upper eighties today thru Friday.  Is it any wonder that Spring and Fall are my favorite seasons?

My little guy still isn't eating anything.  Yesterday, he even passed up on his turkey treat.  Now that's a first!  Today I'm calling to see if his doctor can see him soon.  She's only in two days a week at our hospital.  If things look worse though, I'll just take him to the ER.  I just called and we have an appointment for 6:00 p.m. tomorrow evening.

Yesterday was my great granddaughter Hailey's sixteenth birthday.  I meant to post this yesterday, but with a lot on my mind I forgot to do it.  My bad.  Hailey was our first great grandchild.

I'm wishing you a year full of love and happiness, Hailey.  May all your dreams come true.  Happy Birthday Sweetie.  I love you.

Yesterday, a woman I had hired came by and we spent two hours packing things in the back room and clearing out a lot of stuff.  There's more to do, but it can wait till another day.  We did make a big dent.  I'm so very glad that I met this wonderful person.

They are showing political campaign ads on TV right now, and I'm disgusted at the blatant lack of respect these people are showing.  I'm disgusted that the TV stations actually allow this type of disrespect on their stations.  I'll be glad when I can subscribe to just the stations I want to watch, and not have to pay for all the other crap that is on TV.

Television just isn't the fun entertainment it used to be.  I've been watching the ads for the Fall line-up of new programs.   They are violence, violence and more violence.  It's really sad that people are really into such devastation for entertainment.  Obviously, I'll still be watching re-runs of old programs.

On a bright note, I have a new quick page for you.  This one features a very playful dolphin.  Have fun with it.

Now I'm off to do a bit of blog reading and maybe chase a few dust bunnies around.  I won't catch all of them, but the exercise is good for me.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Where Have The Bees And Butterflies Gone

August 14, 2018

Good morning.  Today is supposed to be like yesterday.  Comfy temps, cloudy with showers on and off.  I'll take it.

Today's project is to try to clean out the back room.  A friend is coming by to help, and I have totes to put things in that I'm keeping.  Years ago, Michael and I squished two households and two businesses into this small apartment.  Over the years, we got rid of some of it, but now it's time for the rest of it to go.

I think I might be calling Pogo's doctor to make an appointment for a check up soon.  He's not eating right and I'm worried about him.  He didn't want his supper last night, or any breakfast this morning.  He's just not his usual self.

I dug into my photo archives and found a photo of Pogo about a month after he came to live with me.  Deanne's "Sassy" was visiting and this is a photo of Pogo and Sassy napping together on the sofa.

Lately, I haven't been getting out anywhere to take photos.  I'm missing that.  There used to be lots of butterflies around here, but since the butterfly bushes died the butterflies don't hang around here anymore.  We did replant one of the bushes to another spot last year but it did not make it.  Maybe next year we can try to plant some new bushes.

I dug a photo from my photo archives to show one of the beautiful butterflies that used to come to enjoy the bushes.

Speaking of missing butterflies, I haven't seen very many bees this year either.  This is definitely not good news.  We need the bees.  And we need the butterflies.  Without them, what sort of planet will we be leaving to our children and future generations?

I'm getting too serious now, and there's not much news.  I think I'll make a fresh cup of coffee and do some blog reading.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Pleading For Help For Our Animals

August 13, 2018

Good morning.  Well, we've gone from the "wicked heat" season to the "occasional thunderstorm" season.  I'm not complaining though.  The temps are much more comfortable and we can use the showers.

Pogo hasn't been eating very much these past few days.  I've tempted him with everything, including some nice prime rib steak.  I saved a big piece of my steak from dinner Saturday night, and cut up a plateful for Pogo when I got home.  He would not eat it.  He didn't want it yesterday either.

Finally, last night, I cooked up a can of corned beef hash and gave Pogo a plate of it.  Will wonders never cease!  He ate it!  I wasn't planning on having the hash for supper, but plans change.  I had hash for supper.

I'm hoping there's nothing wrong with Pogo.  His bark sounds different lately, and he is constantly glued to me.  Or to my pillow if I'm busy doing something.  If I take a shower, he sits on the mat beside the tub until I step out to dry off.  Then he goes back to my pillow.  I'm keeping my eye on him, just in case.

I had things I wanted to do today, but I may have to change my plans a bit.  I did not sleep well last night and I'm tired.  I'll just have to see how the day goes.

Folks, animal abuse seems to be everywhere.  Please help to stop it for good.  If you see or hear of any animal abuse, please report it to the local authorities.  You can probably find the phone numbers for your area on Google.  Our animals deserve our protection.  They can't speak up, but you can!  So please help them.

What is wrong with people who hurt animals?  It's my hope that someday we'll be able to punish these people by doing the same things to them that they did to the innocent animals.  It may sound cruel, but what they do to our animals is worse than cruel.

I don't normally plead for anything, but I'm asking all of you to please speak up and do what you can to help stop the cruelty to our animals.  If you know of someone who is looking for a pet, please ask them to go to a shelter and adopt.  There is so much love waiting for you at an animal shelter.

For those folks who enjoy reading the Good Book, I borrowed this list from the web.  I thought it could be very helpful.

I think later today I may start putting together a folder of photos for next year's calendar.  It's almost September, and time seems to be going by faster now.  I also have to get serious about finishing up my crochet projects.  I'd like to get this pink afghan finished before Christmas.  Ah, so much to do, so little time.

Now I think I'll finish my coffee and do a bit of blog reading.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

A Wonderful Weekend

August 12, 2018

Good morning. Well, we had a bit of rain on and off yesterday and last night.  This is good because we really do need it.  Some leaves on a few trees have already started changing color because of the wicked heat we've been having.  Well, at least that's what I think.  Trees need water to keep their beautiful color green through the summer.  (actually, it is still raining a bit on and off)

I did not get much done yesterday.  For some reason, I was super tired.  So I tried to rest a lot so that I could go out in the evening.  Last night, Deanne, Jazzy and I went to the Paris Cabaret to have dinner and see the summer show, and had a wonderful time.

What fun the show was.  It was titled "Stay Tune" and was filled with theme songs from old TV shows, along with a few skits from these shows.  My favorite skit was from the "I Love Lucy" show.  The skit was from the episode where Lucy was practicing for a TV commercial for a liquid vitamin.

Friday morning, Pogo and I went to visit my cousin Ellen.  I haven't seen her for quite a long while, so we had a really nice visit getting caught up on all our family news.  My cousin has been very sick on and off for the past few years and can't get around very well.  She has a walker and oxygen.  Well, me too!  So we make quite the pair, sort of like Frick and Frack.  hahahahaha.

Ellen had a few old photographs from our childhood, and I made copies of them with my phone.  In this first photo we are all playing outside.  This photo was probably taken around 1942/1943.  On the left is me.  I was probably about three years old.  In the middle is my cousin Dickie, holding his sister Ellen (the baby) and on the right is his sister Edna.  My cousin Edna is six months older than me, and we are both named after our grandmother.

This next photo was taken in July, 1945.  Sorry for all the cracks on the photo.  On the left is my cousin Edna (6 yrs) standing next to my uncle Freddie (18 years).  My cousin Ellen (3 yrs) is sitting on Uncle Freddie's shoulders.  This photo must have been taken just before, or right after, Uncle Freddie enlisted in the Army.  I'm not sure which.  This was the year that Edna and I both started school in the first grade.

I wish Ellen had more old photos, but this was all she had.  And I'm grateful for them.  I'm thinking that maybe one of these days Ellen and I can take a ride to visit with her brother Dickie.  Who knows, maybe he has a few old photos too.  Wouldn't that be nice!

This has truly been a wonderful weekend.  Today I have a new quick page for you.  This one features Peridot, and is for everyone born in August.  Lola and her sister have found a wonderful treasure..Have fun with it.

A New Tekky Toy To Play With

August 10, 2018

Good morning.  It's really nice outside right now, but I'm sure it will be getting warmer in a couple hours.  Sort of like a normal summer day.  Funny, but in a few months, we'll be wishing we still had these warm days.

Yesterday was a slow day here.  Aside from paying a couple bills and making a few phone calls, I didn't really accomplish very much.  Well, I did play on my laptop for a while making new quick pages.

After supper last night, Pogo and I curled up to watch a bit of TV and we both fell asleep.  I woke up a few hours later and crocheted a while before putting the light out and going back to sleep.  My little Pogo was snuggled next to me all night long.

Today I thought I'd share a new toy that I've bought.  It's a little photo prnter for the cell phone.  It was the daily special on a shopping network.

Before buying this printer, I checked the retail price on Amazon, and it usually sells for $129.95, plus another $29.95 for a carry case and $10.00 for twenty extra sheets of paper.  (The printer comes with ten sheets of paper.  As the day's special, the printer came with the carry case and the extra twenty sheets of paper for the $89.95 price.

I ordered the red printer, and it arrived a couple days ago.  Since then, I've been trying to learn how to use this fun little gadget.  It does not come with an instruction manual.  However, there is a user guide tucked away inside the software.  Once you figure out how to find it, you can download a PDF to your laptop to print out.

So far, I'm not impressed with the photos that I'm printing.  Only one so far has come out good.  Now that could be that I'm just not doing something right.  I'll keep trying.  After a while though, if the pictures don't improve, I'll call HP.  The printer is under warranty.  I do hope things work out though, because I can have a lot of fun with this little printer.

Now I'm going to finish my coffee and read a few blogs before Pogo and I head out to visit my cousin Ellen.  She says she has a couple old photos from our childhood that I'd like to copy.  Oh boy, I do hope so.

I'm off now.  So, till Sunday, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Temps Have Dropped A Skoshe. Awesome!

August 9, 2018

Good morning.  Oh my, temps are a bit cooler this morning and boy oh boy does it ever feel good! The air is so much more breathable.  It will warm up in a little while, but temps aren't supposed to get up into the nineties today.  Woo Hoo!

Well, the repairman came by yesterday to fix my dryer.  Gosh, I felt so bad for the guy. He was an older gent, thin with gray hair.  And the heat was getting to him.  But he fixed my dryer.  It cost a little less than $200.  A lot cheaper than buying a new dryer.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best.

We had a few thunder showers here yesterday and last night.  Just enough to leave a few small puddles behind.  Pogo and I stood out on the porch and enjoyed watching the rain come down.  The warm summer rain brings back wonderful memories of us little kids playing outside in the rain with a bar of soap.

In case you are wondering, this was back in the early forties.   There was a war going on and no one had much money.  Life was more innocent then and us kids found lots of ways to have fun.  Of course, our families watched to make sure we were all safe.  Whole neighborhoods watched, and us kids enjoyed a wonderful childhood.

No one had much money in those days, and families did  a lot of shopping at rummage sales that were held in local churches and halls.  My folks always managed to find boxes of books to bring home to me.  I loved books.  Could never get enough of them.  They opened up a whole new world for me.  I guess that's why I love learning so much.  Not the teckie stuff.  Just stuff.  I found this on the web and just had to share it.

Last night, I was watching an ad on TV about internet colleges and I fell asleep.  I dreamed about signing up for classes in a Ph. D. program.  It felt good for a while until I realized that the cost was more than I could afford.  It's okay though.  I don't need the degree.  It's just something I used to want.  Dreaming about it made for a happy sleep.

I have another cute story for you (that I found on the web) and I thought it might help to start your day off with a smile.

Now I think I need to pay a couple of bills so that I can give them to the mailman when he gets here.  Before I go, let me share a photo of Pogo that I took a few days ago.  I took the photo with my cell phone from across the room, but it sill came out pretty good.

How many of you remember, or know, the word "skoshe"?  I remember it from my childhood.  I checked for it's definition on Google.

"The word skoshe comes from the Japanese word sukoshi, which is pronounced "skoh shee" and means "a tiny bit" or "a small amount."  The Japanese word was shortened by U.S. servicemen stationed in Japan after World War II. Later, in the Korean War, a small soldier was oftened nicknamed "Skosh."

Aren't you glad you dropped by today?  It's good to learn something new.

Now I'm off to pay the bills and do a bit of blog reading.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

It's Not Easy To Ride A Big Yellow Duckie

August 8, 2018

Good morning.  Gosh, I'm getting a very late start today.  I stayed up late last night watching a movie and this morning I just did not want to get up.  Even Pogo slept late today.

Deanne came by yesterday and put the new seat on the toilet.  Oh how wonderful to not be getting pinched on the cheek anymore.  It doesn't seem like a big deal, but pinching does put a whole new perspective on one's comfort.

Today, I have a repairman coming by to see about fixing my dryer.  I'm not sure when he'll be here but it will be soon.  So, today's post will be short.  I have some fun photos to share that Deanne sent to me.  She has a wonderful pool in her backyard, with lots of fun floaties.  A few days ago, she and Eddie and a good friend were cooling off in the pool and trying to ride the big yellow duckie.

It took several tries and a few dumps into the pool to figure out how to get on the duckie (and stay on) as these fun photos will show.

Can you think of a better way to have lots of fun and stay cool at the same time?  This was a fun afternoon for everybody.

I was chatting with my friend Beth last night, and she asked me if I had any of my photos set aside yet for next year's calendar.  I have a couple set aside, but this is something I'll have to start working on pretty soon.

It's almost the middle of August already, and Fall is right around the corner.  That's kind of scary, don't you think?  That means that Christmas is only 139 days away.  It may sound like a lot, but it's not.  I have shopping to finish and wrap.  There are boxes to get ready for mailing.  There are cards to be designed and envelopes to be written.  And, there's a calendar to be made.  Plus all the normal everyday stuff.  It makes you think, doesn't it?

Today I have a new quick page for you.  This one is to remind us to be thankful for all our blessings.
