Hot Weather Rules For Keeping Your Pets Safe

July 17, 2020

Good morning.  Today is our last "comfy" day.  The hot sticky stuff is supposed to be back here starting tomorrow.  It's going to be TOO HOT for outdoor stuff.  That means it's going to be TOO HOT for our PETS TOO!   You might even want to be concerned through Tuesday.  Watch the weather reports and check the temperatures.  Be kind to your animals.  (Don't mind the misspelling in the article.  The author may have been in a rush to get it typed.) Image borrowed from the web.

And remember, they don't have shoes on their feet to protect them from the hot ground and sidewalks.  Walk in early morning or later when there is lots of shade.  Pretend you are walking barefoot and think how the ground is burning your pet's paw pads.

I borrowed another image from the web to share with you.  With these wicked hot temperatures, we all need to know how to recognize heat stroke in our pets.  This chart is for dogs and for cats. (I checked on Google.)   Also add drooling, salivating, agitation, restlessness (pacing), increased heart rate and breathing distress.  Make sure your pets have plenty of clean fresh drinking water.

Well, yesterday I made a few phone calls.  I originally bought my cell phone at Best Buy.  They still sell Samsung phones, but they don't sell replacement batteries or put them in for you.  So now I have to find a place that does this for the Samsung phones.

Next, I called the auto dealer where I bought my car to see how they are operating now with the new Covid rules.  You have to make an appointment.  Then you can either wait indoors, or they'll set up a chair outside for you to sit while you wait.  I got the first open appointment to take my car in.  It's next Friday at 9:30 a.m.

I found another really adorable baby crochet pattern on the web.  No, I'm not going to buy it, but it really is cute.  These are called Rock-a-Billy Baby Boots.  Aren't they just the cutest things?

Joe picked up my grocery order after work yesterday.  Fortunately, there were only three items out of stock by the time they picked my order.  I should be okay though till next weekend on those items.

Last evening I took down the hummingbird feeder and put in a new bottle of food.  I really like this new feeder.  It's so much easier to change and clean.  My hummingbirds like it too.  I made up another package of their food because it has to be changed more often when the temperature gets really hot.

Today Pogo and I are going to spend some time on the porch.  I may even drive my car around in the driveway for a bit.  Just practicing.  Now it's time to wash some dishes and get started on this new day.  So, till Sunday, Y'all have a fantabulous weekend.

Hugs, Edna B.

I Had to come share something with you.

Edna Mae’s Sour Cream Pancakes
Adapted from The Pioneer Woman Cooks

Ree says this makes 12 4-inch pancakes; I got 8 that were closer to 5 inches

7 tablespoons all purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/ 2 teaspoon salt
1 cup sour cream (I swapped some with yogurt when I realized I was short, to no ill-effect)
2 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Butter
Maple syrup (or perhaps some Cranberry Syrup)

Heat a cast iron skillet or griddle over medium-low heat; you want it to slowly get nice and hot.

Stir the flour, sugar, baking soda and salt together in the bottom of a medium bowl. Dump the sour cream in on top and stir it together very gently; it’s okay to leave the texture a bit uneven. Whisk the eggs and vanilla in a separate bowl and stir them into the sour cream mixture, once again, being careful not to overmix.

Melt about a tablespoon of butter in your skillet or griddle and pour the batter in, a scant 1/4 cup at a time. Cook for about 2 minutes on the first side, or until bubbles appear all over the surface [See Pancakes 101 for this and other tips], flipping them carefully and cooking for about a minute on the other side. Repeat with remaining batter.

Serve in a stack, topped with a pat of butter and a cascade of maple syrup.

HaHaHa! I was trying to get into your blog and hit Miss Edna's Sour Cream Pancakes! Turns out the Pioneer Woman's hubby, this was his grandma Edna Mae's recipe. So since you have part of the namesake I had to share with you.

I agree on the pets being outdoors. It is ridiculous, this heat wave is killing me and I refuse to let them out more then a minute or two. They usually head for the grassy areas but it is still too hot. My idiot neighbors, have the big dog and he runs up and down the path where my bedroom faces to their yard. He never is quiet. We gave him and the other dog toys, they threw them back in our yard. Someone reported them to the cops but in today's world, no one really cares to be bothered. A cop told my friend if there is a dog house they can not say anything to the people. How dumb is that? I will never understand having pets if you hate them or won't properly care for them, it is quite sad.
Meanwhile this bunch looks like someone shot them and they are all sleeping soundly . I keep fans running too and they love it.
Now I am hungry for pancakes and need to refill my cold water bottle.
You take care and stay cool. Hoping your car appt. goes very quickly. The world has become mad!
Happy weekend. HUGS xo

The baby boots are real cute.

Nice you can wait for the car, either inside or outside.
There should be companies or shops that can replace the battery for the Samsung. Isn't there something to be found in your town?

Oh yes, with high temperatures you should be careful with pets.
I have now Tommy from Heidi, and today and next few days will be around 25C and I take him out also in the afternoon, but only in the shadow and most on grass in shadow, (it wil be a short tour), and he can be cool in our room on the floor and has of course water.

Take care if it is too sticky warm outside, best stay inside, and may be you can sit on the proch later in the evening.
Hve a lovely weekend,
Hugs
Kyra

I laughed so hard when I came to the comment section of your blog because I am using my phone and I had to Google you and the first thing that popped up was Miss Edna Mae's Pancakes then I came to the comment about the pancakes and I think I about snorted my entire water bottle of water thru my nose. It was just super funny 😆😁😆
I really love those little boots. I have a little great niece that is about 6 months old now and they would be super cute on her little feet ❤️
I tried calling you but I realized that you might be able to get out for a bit and enjoy your last nice day before it gets really hot.
I will try once more and if I don't get you I will call tomorrow. I'm really sleepy but I don't want to leave lay down because it will interfere with me sleeping tonight and I need to get my sleep schedule back on track.
Have a wonderful day my friend and give Pogo love from me and a great big lick and woof from Olly. Xoxoxo 💋
