Farewell To A Beautiful November

November 30, 2017

Good morning.  It's cold out, only in the low thirties at the moment, but the sun is shining.  Have you noticed yet that today is the last day of November?  There are only thirty one more days left in this year.  Wow, talk about the time flying by so fast!!

Yesterday, I asked the mailman when would be a good day to give him all my Christmas cards, and he said Friday would be good.  So, tomorrow they all get sent out.  As for the wrapping part, I am still procrastinating.  For some reason I just don't like doing it anymore.  Well, I've dug out my big girl panties and today is wrapping day!!

Today I thought I'd pass on some information that I learned last night.  I watch the Jewelry TV channel a lot because I learn so much about the actual gemstones and their history (as well as being tempted now and then to buy something).

Did you know that Peridot is the only crystalline gemstone that is found on another planet?  Believe it or not, Peridot is also found on Mars.  Peridot has always been associated with light.  In fact, the Egyptians called it the "gem of the sun."  Some believed it protected its owner from "terrors of the night," especially when it was set in gold.  Others strung the gems on donkey hair and tied them around their left arms to ward off evil spirits.

The word Peridot comes from the Arabic "faridat" which means "gem."  Most Peridot formed deep inside the earth and was delivered to the surface by volcanoes.  Some also came to earth in meteorites, but this extraterrestrial Peridot is extremely rare, and not likely to be seen in a retail jewelry store.

Some historians believe that Cleopatra's famous emerald collection might actually have been peridot.  People in medieval times continued to confuse Peridot with emerald.  For centuries, people believed the fabulous 200 carat gems adoring the shrine of the Three Holy Kings in Germany's Cologne Cathedral were emeralds.  They are, in fact, Peridots.  (all historic info from web)

Here are a few photos of Peridot that I downloaded from Google.  It truly is a beautiful gemstone.  If you are an August baby, this is your birthstone.

I have always been fascinated with rocks.  When I was a little girl, I used to find lots of "special" rocks on the ground and bring them home.  Back then, it was quite common to find lots of quartz and a few other gemstones just lying around on the ground.  Not so anymore.  Of course, there was a huge quarry not too far from where we lived.  So that may have been the reason why I was able to find so many pretty stones.

DIL Janet could not come by last night because she has caught a nasty cold and did not want to bring it here.  Here's hoping she gets well really quick.  I had already told Pogo that I would order Chinese food for our supper and now I just could not disappoint him.

So, I made the phone call, and you should have seen the excitement on Pogo's little face when the man showed up at the porch with a big bag of Chinese food.  We always order the same stuff, Pork Fried Rice, Pork Lo Mein, and an Egg Roll.  I put the rice and lo mein on Pogo's plate, cut it all up nice and small, and gave it to him.  It did not take long before his plate was licked clean!

Guess what we had for breakfast this morning.  Yup, left overs!  Actually, I have another meal of it in the refrigerator.  I'll save it for supper tonight, and yes, I'll be sharing it with my favorite little guy.

Well that's my news for this morning.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

I Could Use A Few Extra Hours Each Day

November 29, 2017

Good morning.  It's not even seven thirty and I've already had my breakfast, and done a bit of blog reading.  I'm toying with the idea of going shopping this morning.  It all depends on how I feel after I'm done posting here.

Yesterday, Joe took my package to the Post Office and picked up my Christmas stamps.  I just wasn't feeling up to going out in the cold.  All my cards are stamped now and ready to give to the mailman on Friday.  Now I just have to get busy with the wrapping.  That's the part I'm not so crazy about.

I found a pattern for a cute child's crocheted top that I might like to try while I'm on vacation next year.  I'm always looking for simple patterns.  I tend to lose my patience with the more intricate patterns so I stick to the easy stuff.

I haven't decided yet if I want to work on things for my tiny great granddaughters or if I want to work on an afghan while I'm in Florida.  I guess it will all depend on how I feel just before it's time to travel.

The weatherman says that today will be warm with temps around fifty degrees.  We had a bit of rain during the night, but the sun has just come out and it is looking rather pretty outside my door.  So I guess maybe I will go shopping this morning.

DIL Janet will be coming by later today after work.  I'm not sure what we'll be having for supper, but we might just order take out from the Chinese restaurant down the street.  Pogo loves Chinese food, and so do I, and we haven't had it for a while.

This weekend, I need to start filling my quick page folder with some new pages for Christmas.  I just need a few more hours added to each day so that I can do all the things that I want to do.  Hmmm, I suppose everyone wishes for this same thing.

Well, I've finished my coffee, so I guess it's time to stuff this adorable little body into some clothes and waddle out to my car.  hahaha.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have an awesome day.

Brrr! Gosh, It's Nippy Outside!

November 28, 2017

Good morning.  The sun is shining, but oh my it is cold outside!  It's only 33F degrees.  I have to go out to the Post Office, but I'll wait a couple hours in hopes that it warms up a bit.  Temps are supposed to reach 40F degrees later on.  I may wait till tomorrow to do my other errands, as it will be a tad bit warmer then.  I think.

Well, yesterday I finished addressing all my envelopes, and wrote a few address labels for my packages.  I just have to put the stamps on all of the envelopes and they will be ready for mailing at the end of the week.

Yesterday was a weird sort of day.  I kept busy doing goodness knows what, and by the end of the day I was too tired to even crochet.  So, no new rows got added to the green afghan.  I'm thinking that I may work on the Cranberry and Pink afghan next because the colors are warm and cheerful.  We'll see.

The Home Shopping Network had a super good sale on an HP laptop yesterday, and I was really tempted to buy one of them.  My laptop is so slow that it isn't much fun to work on it now.  It probably needs a good cleaning out, but I don't know how to do that.  I surely do miss Wayne.  He kept my laptop running much more smoothly.

Ah well, I'm slower these days too, so I guess I can learn to put up with my laptop.  At least for now.  I learned yesterday (from watching the shopping channel) that Windows 10 is going to remain the current version.  It will be updated whenever needed, but will not be followed by a new version each year.  That's a relief.

I need to backup all my files again, and then maybe after that I'll try one of the "do it yourself" computer clean out programs.  Maybe.  I don't like to do things that might not work!  Especially to my laptop!  I'll have to look into the little local newspaper to see if there are any PC gurus looking for work.  Hmmm, that's a better idea.

Today I have the last of my nature quick pagers.  After that, I'll be working on Christmas pages.  This page features a couple of our larger animals.  I think they are beautiful, and I hope you do too.  Have fun with it.

Last night, I brought out Pogo's big fuzzy blanket from last Christmas, and oh my he was in heaven!  It's a really big blanket and there is so much of it to scrunch up.  He can sink down into the deep pile and be ever so cozy and warm.  I'll have to try to get some new photos of him in his blanket.

Well, the morning is going by, and I have to get dressed to go to the Post Office.  On that note, I'll take my leave.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

It's Cyber Monday Shopping On TV

November 27, 2017

Good morning.  Today is rather cloudy with a bit of a brisk breeze.  The temperature is 41F degrees, not warm enough to tempt me outside.  It won't be any warmer tomorrow, but I will have to go out to the Post Office to mail off a couple of boxes.

Yesterday was a quiet day for Pogo and me.  I kept myself busy with little things, but as I look around me, I really can't figure out what it was that I was busy with.  Hmmm, it seems that a lot of my days are like that.

There's a channel on TV that shows a lot of the old TV shows, including The Johnny Carson Show.  I always enjoyed this show, and I still do.  The other night, (a re-run, of course) one of his guests was George Burns.  I do believe he was close to one hundred years old.  One of the most interesting things that he said was that you should never retire.  Once you retire from work, you should keep busy.  This will keep your spirit young and your body in working shape.  George never did retire from work.

Today I'm watching the Home Shopping Network on TV.  They are having two days of special shopping buys, and some of the prices are wicked good!  Most of my shopping is already done, so I'm not really shopping, but it is very interesting to watch.

Yesterday, Jazzy performed in the Children's Christmas Special show at the Paris Cabaret.  She sang Christmas songs, and at one point, she played Olaf the snowman.   Everyone had a great time, and all the kids got to have their photo taken with Santa Claus.  Here's a photo taken yesterday of Jack, Jazzy, Alima and Lilah.

This weekend, I'm going to see the Regular Christmas Special.  Here's a poster for this weekend's show, along with a couple photos of the Starliners.  (our waitstaff and performers)  Our Jazzy is the girl with the long dark hair and eyeglasses.

I'm really looking forward to this night out.  I always reserve the same table too.  It's a tall table with bar stool type chairs.  This way, I can see over the top of everyone's head and see the whole show.

Well, the sun has come out, and that's all my news for this morning.  It's time for me to do a few things around here.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have an awesome day.

Hugs, Edna B.

I'm Enjoying A Burst Of Energy

November 26, 2017

Good morning.  The sun is shining and the temperature is 48F degrees.  Just a tad bit too cold for me, but it's a gorgeous day outside so I'm happy.  Well, my porch screen covers are up.  Joe put them up this morning with some help from one of the other dwarfs.  This week, we'll see about getting the heavy duty plastic up on the front portion of the porch.

Even though I got up rather early this morning, I'm getting a late start on my post.  I got a burst of energy and used it to wrap and package a couple of gift boxes.  One for a birthday, and one for Christmas.  It's a beginning.  Now I just have to tackle the rest of the gifts and boxes.

I've also spent some time working on the green afghan.  There are eighteen more rows to go to finish it.  Some time this week, I have to sew the buttons on the nappy covers.  Then I can wrap them.  I still have to give some thought on how to attach the dresses and under-slips on the bed dolls.  I tried sewing the slip to the underside of the dress, but then it made the dress too heavy for the doll.  Hmmm, I need to give this some more thought.

I did not have any luck gluing embellishments on to the air freshener doll dresses, so they'll just have to settle for having ribbons.  I tried!  It would be nice to have all of these dollies wrapped and packaged before the end of the week.  At some point, I need to put all my yarn bags and project bags away in the other room.  They are beginning to take up too much of my space.  hahaha.

Today I have some adorable photos that I took with my phone.  Every now and then I get lucky and am able to get some cute photos of Pogo before he turns his face away.  The poor guy is in need of a trip to the beauty salon.  He's looking like the Lion King again.

Isn't he just the cutest little fellow in his jammies?   He seems quite pleased with himself in these photos.  In the last photo, he was trying to get my attention to let me know that he wants more hamburger on his plate.

He has this little quirk.  He asks for more food, then when I get it for him, he just checks to make sure it's all there and then he walks away.  This is his way of making sure that he has food for when he gets hungry later.  He hasn't figured out yet that there will always be food for him whenever he wants it.  I guess this is a hold-over habit from his days of living in a cage.

Well, now I'm going to make a fresh cup of coffee and catch up on some blog reading.  After that, I'll wrap a few more things.  At least while this little burst of energy hangs on.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Dinner Was Great, The Company Was Better

November 24, 2017

Good morning.  (for another fifteen minutes)  I did not sleep well last night, so I'm off to a very late start today.  I guess I can blame it all on that awesome nap I took after dinner yesterday.  The sun is shining today and the temperature is only about 45F degrees.  That's about as warm as it's supposed to get today.  I'm not complaining though.  This is way better than snow!

Dinner yesterday was delicious.  Joe cooked everything and I have to say he did a great job.  Pogo doesn't normally eat regular turkey, but yesterday he at a plateful with a bit of gravy mixed in.  A couple of the dwarfs had gone out to be with their families, and the rest of them stayed at home.  Some ate with us, and others cooked their own meal and ate together.  We had turkey, the others had ham.

For supper last night, I only had apple pie because I was still full from dinner.  Afterwards, I finished crocheting the purple scarf and hat set.  I used the left over yarns from the purple afghan.

Afterwards, I worked on the green afghan for a while.  I think I only have about twenty two or three more rows to go before it is finished.  I'm not sure which colors I will work with after that.  At least I have plenty to choose from.  hahaha.

Today I have a quick page for you.  This one has nothing to do with the season at hand, but I do love the ocean and this was a fun page to work on.  Have fun with it.

Here is your download link:

Today I think I'll work on cropping and resizing a photo for my DIL Janet.  She wants to have it printed on canvas for her hubby for Christmas.  After that, I want to wrap a couple of things, one of which will be needing to be mailed by Monday.  Maybe wrapping these things will get me in the mood to wrap the rest of the things waiting for wrapping and packing.  We'll see.

Pogo seems to be on a doggie food strike.  I found a couple of meatballs in the freezer, so I'm cooking them for him.  Hopefully, he will eat them.  Short of cooking hamburgers (fresh each day!) or steak, I just don't know what to feed him anymore.

Tomorrow is supposed to be in the mid fifties, so I think Pogo and I will be going out for a while.  One stop will be at Ocean State Job Lot because the bird seed is on sale for almost half price.  After that, we're on our own to enjoy the beautiful day.

That's about all my news for today.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Happy Thanksgiving Day

November 23, 2017

Good morning.  The sun is shining and it is cold.  Brrrrr!  The temperature is 31F degrees, and probably won't get up much higher than 41F degrees today.  Tonight will be below freezing again.  Mother Nature is setting us up for a cold winter, I guess.

Speaking of Winter, it is only four weeks away.  The good part, though, is that we are that much closer to next Spring.  Only 117 more days and Spring will be here.

Pogo and I got up early this morning.  I've been feeding him doggie food, and he's been turning up his nose at it.  As soon as Joe came down into the kitchen (out in the house) Pogo was at our pantry door waiting to bark at him and let him know that it was turkey treat time.  My poor little Pogo is hungry!

Next it was time to put out a basket of peanuts and more birdseed for our critters.  Then it was time for Joe to start getting the turkey dinner ready for cooking.  Me, I'm going to make a cup of coffee and sit back and enjoy it.

Today I'll post the answers to yesterday's picture puzzles.  I love these puzzles because they help to keep your brain sharp.  I'll have to look to see if I have any more of them that I can share.  Here are the answers.

Now I'm going to make a fresh cup of coffee and watch a bit of TV.  Pogo and I want to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving Day.

Hugs, Edna B.

I Totally Missed The Boat Yesterdsay!

November 22, 2017

Good morning.  Well, I tried to sleep late today, but finally Pogo said that it was time for me to get up.  It's raining outside this morning.  The temperature is pretty good though.  It's 51F degrees outside, but tonight will drop way down to the mid twenties.

Well, yesterday I missed the boat on getting out to do some errands.  First I had to wait around for a cable guy to come by for one of the dwarfs.  By the time he was finished and ready to leave, the mail hadn't come.  I waited a bit longer until I decided that we weren't going to get any mail at all.  By then it was too late to go anywhere.

Today is not a good day to go shopping for groceries, and Friday all the stores will be crowded.  So maybe I'll see about doing a bit of grocery shopping on Saturday.  Pogo and I have plenty of food so we certainly won't go hungry.

Joe is cooking a turkey dinner tomorrow, and one of the other dwarfs will be cooking a ham dinner.  The house will be smelling yummy all day!  I haven't decided yet if Pogo and I will have turkey tomorrow or if I'll order Chinese food for us.  I guess it will depend on how I feel tomorrow.

Last night I set aside the green afghan, and started another scarf and hat set.  Hopefully, I have enough yarn to finish the set.  After a while, Pogo decided to cuddle up on my lap so I put out the light and we drifted off to sleep.

Today I have a couple of puzzle pages from Dover.  Each page has lots of items hidden on it.  I'll also post a sheet of the hidden items so that you can see how many of them you can find.  Have fun with them.

****I'm back.  I took a short break because the mail came and I went out to get it.  While chatting with dwarf Helen, she said that she was going to the market and that she would pick up a few things for me.  Woo Hoo!   It's still raining, so I'm happy to not have to go out.

If I need (or want) any of the items that are on sale the next few days, I can always shop on line.  So, I guess today will be a lazy day for Pogo and me.  Right now, he's sitting by the storm door, watching the antics of the squirrels out in the yard.  When Joe gets home, I'll give him a big bowl of peanuts to put out for our little critters.

Well, that's my news for today.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Hugs, Edna B.

Happy Sales To Y'all

November 21, 2017

Good morning.  Wowsie!  Can you believe we're almost at the end of November?  I can't believe how quickly time is flying by now.  I was so far ahead of the holidays, and now I have to scramble to keep caught up.

The sun is shining and the temperature is 37F degrees.  However, it is supposed to warm up to about 57F degrees later on.  Woo Hoo!  Maybe today is the day that Pogo and I will make it out to do a bit of shopping.

Yesterday was rather quiet here and I was able to get in a wee bit of a nap.  However, that didn't stop me from falling asleep really early last night, right after supper actually, for about an hour.  Then, after watching a couple hours of TV, it was back to sleep for me.

Yesterday I got a message from Amazon that a package I was expecting had been lost in transit.  Then late in the afternoon, a fellow showed up at my door with a huge box.  Aha!  The missing package.  The sad part is that I can't open the box and I have to hang on to it until Santa gets here to tell me what to do with it.  Yikes!  So now it sits in the middle of my tiny kitchen, and I'll be walking around it for the next month.

My big trees out front are losing a lot of their leaves.  One tree is almost naked, while the other one still has some leaves left.  I looked in my archives, and dug out some photos.  This first one shows that this same time a few years ago, my now naked tree, still had lots of leaves on it.

I also pulled out a couple photos of some of the flowers that were still blooming in my garden at that same time.  Blooms like this are awesome by the end of November.  At least around here with our night temperatures dipping down into the twenties a lot of nights.

We don't have much blooming at the moment.  After today though, we might get a few more pink blossoms on the pink rose tree.  We'll just have to wait and see.

If we go out today, I'll look for some new purple yarns.  Then maybe Pogo and I will stop by Ocean State Job Lot to see what's new there.  I think we'll be picking up more bird seed too.  We seem to go through it rather fast, especially now that the temperatures are a lot colder.

This week I have to get another box ready for mailing the beginning of next week.  Daughter Audrey has a birthday the end of next week.  I think we have at least three more birthdays coming up in December.  I'll have to check to make sure all my cards are ready for mailing.

They just showed an ad on TV for a product called "Tile."  It features a very sad and lonely little stuffed panda bear who is lost and walking the streets in the rain hoping to be found.  When he finally gives up, he is found and returned to the little girl who lost him.  Gosh, what an ad!  Every time I see it I want to grab the little bear and hug him close to me.

Ouch!  I just grabbed my back scratcher and tried to scratch my back with my right arm.  I won't do that again!  I have to get creative and find new ways to do things that I normally do with my right arm.

Is everybody keeping track of all the Black Friday sale ads?  There are some awesome sales coming up if one is up to shopping on Thanksgiving day (not me!) or in the wee hours of Friday morning.  I won't be out there with all the happy bargain hunters.  I tried this many years ago and I vowed then never to do it again.  But if you do, I wish you Happy Shopping!

Well, I think I should get busy around here so that maybe Pogo and I can get out shopping.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Keep Your Ankles Wrapped Good!

November 20, 2017

Good morning.  The sun is shining, but the temperature is only around 33F degrees.  Later today it might get up to around 41F degrees.  Hmmm, I don't know if I want to wander out today or not.  Maybe later when it warms up a tad bit.

Well, last night I finished the purple and green afghan.  Hopefully, I can get some purple shades of yarn to work with soon or I won't be able to finish another purple afghan before Christmas.  As for the rest of the things that I need to finish up, they will eventually get done.  They always do.  I make plans to do things each day, but those plans rarely go as planned.

But guess what??  It doesn't really matter.  Each day is a gift and I feel good about whatever I'm able to accomplish.  Once Pogo and I get past the upcoming holidays, we will start planning ahead for our time in Florida.  I miss going to the flea markets.

Yesterday I found an adorable image online that I wanted to share.  This is for all you folks with teeny tiny doggies like mine.  I think this is soooo funny!

I don't have a lot of news today, but I do have a kit for you.  This is my part of an old kit that I made in collaboration with my friend Su.  I hope you can have fun with it.

Yesterday Was An Awesome Day!

November 19, 2017

Good morning.  It's warm this morning, 57F degrees, and wet.  The rain started late yesterday afternoon, and continued all through the night.  At the moment, the rain is taking a small break.  It's okay though because my porch is ready for closing.  Joe vacuumed it yesterday and covered everything over with plastic.

We just have to put the screen covers up now and cover the front section with heavy plastic.  I'll have to go to Home Depot this week and get a large roll of the heavy duty plastic.  This will be a pleasant outing for Pogo and me.

Well, yesterday came, and so did my nephew.  I was so full of anticipation that I could not sit still all morning.  I took out the trash, ran the carpet sweeper and washed the dishes.  I even went outside and dug up the dahlia bulbs to bring in.  I just had to keep moving.  Of course, after a few hours, I was exhausted and decided to save what breath I had for my visit.

Early afternoon, after his classes got out, Jamie (some of his family do call him that) finally got here.  Oh my, oh my!   Here's a photo that Joe took of us on the porch.  Can you tell how happy I am?

We had an awesome visit.  Pogo even sat on his lap and allowed Jamie to pet him.  We talked about a lot of things, and shared a lot of photos.  Gosh, there is just so much to get caught up on.  My brother would be oh so proud of this fine young man.  And the fun part?  He calls me "Auntie."  I have other nephews and they call me Aunt Edna.  No one ever called me Auntie before.  I love it!

It was hard to say good bye, but he had somewhere else to go before going home.  He'll be coming back soon though.  We even talked about the fun we'll have in the Spring when we can sit out on the porch while we visit.  I'm a happy camper folks.  I am sooooo blessed!

I got a card in the mail that I thought I would share with you.  Great Courses will be having a big sale next Friday.  All the courses will be 80% off.  This is a great deal if anyone is looking to take one of their courses.  Here's the information.

Today, I think I'll address the rest of my Christmas cards.  Then I really must get serious about wrapping and packaging at least one gift.  Later, I will take some time to sit and play on my laptop.  I need to make some Christmas quick pages.  Tomorrow, I will have a new download for everyone.

Here's an adorable tee shirt design that I came across.  Imagine a whole group of tiny Yorkies pulling Santa's sleigh!  How fun!!

I have to get some new yarn to make a purple afghan.  Hopefully, I can get it finished before Christmas so that I can give it to Jamie.  (That's his favorite color.)Now I think it's time for me to get started on a few things around here.  I have a nice little spurt of energy and I don't want to waste it.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have an awesome day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Lots Of Good News To Share

November 17, 2017

Good morning.  It's cold, but the sun is shining so it's going to be a good day.  Actually, every day that I wake up is a good day!  This will be a short post because I have to get ready to leave for our appointment at the shooting range.  But, I have lots of good news to share.

First, last night my grandson Kevin officially became a member of his electricians union.  Way to go, Kevin!  We a re all so very proud of you.  Here's a photo of Kevin and his Dad from last night.  This had to be a big night for Eddie too.  Congratulations to you too, Dad!

My other bit of good news is about a young man that hopefully, I will get to meet tomorrow afternoon.  So to all my friends and family, meet my nephew, Jimmy.  I knew him as Jamie when he was a baby, but folks call him Jimmy now.

No, that's not his little dog.  It belongs to a friend of his.  Gosh, I can't wait for tomorrow.  There is so much we have to talk about, photos to share.  I hope my brother is watching down here tomorrow.  He would have loved to be here.

Well, that's my news for this morning.  Now I really must start getting ready to leave.  So, till Sunday, Y'all have an awesome weekend.  (I know I will!)

Wishes Do Come True

November 16, 2017

Good morning.  I am feeling much better this morning.  I just needed a good night's sleep.  It looks like the sun might be trying to shine, and it's not raining.  The temperature is at 44F degrees and might even get a few degrees warmer later today.

Well, yesterday was quite the day, even thought I only wanted to sleep all day.  That didn't happen!  Early in the morning, I had to shut off the heat in the whole house so that none of the pipes would burst.  I tried once again to reach our regular furnace service man to no avail, so I called a new company one town over.

This fellow said he would be out in about an a hour or less.  And he was!  I now have a new burner service man.  Not only did he fix the problem, but he said that a large part of the burner was never cleaned out and really should be as soon as possible.  He will be back tomorrow to do just that.  Before he starts work, I'll take a photo to show the other company that I had paid to do the cleaning last month.

Many years ago, a baby had to be put into the system to be given up for adoption.  Back then, fathers had no legal choices if they were not married to the baby's mother.  You just hoped that the baby would be given a good home with a loving family to raise it.  Ever since, I have hoped and wished that someday while I was still here on earth that I might find that child (no, not mine) and at least know that it had a good life.

Well yesterday my phone rang and a young man introduced himself to me.  Folks, dreams do come true.  I have been walking on clouds since that phone call.  That baby grew up into a fine young man who is now almost thirty nine years old.  He had a good family and is now looking up his history.  I was going to post his photo here, but I forgot to ask him if it was okay, so the photo and name will have to wait for now.

We had a really long chat on the phone, and I may get to meet him this coming Saturday afternoon.  Oh my goodness, I am excited!  Today I will be putting a lot of photos on a thumb drive to give to him.  I also want to look through a lot of my old photos because somewhere I have a photo of him when he was just a baby, which I will copy and give to him.

So you see, I will be floating until Saturday afternoon gets here.  I'm on pins and needles too.  I hope to have more to share here this weekend.

I found a new kind of greeting card to share with you.  I found this in a "Signals" catalogue.  It's called the "Endless Singing Christmas Joke Card"  Once it starts playing music, it just keeps getting louder for up to three hours.  If the recipient gets mad enough to tear up the card, it scatters glitter all over them.

Well, that's it for my chatter this morning.  I have a lot to do today.  I also know that I have been remiss in posting quick pages, but I will remedy that shortly.    So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a really awesome day.

No Post Today

November 15, 2017

Good morning.  I won't be posting this morning.  I'm just a wee bit under the weather.  I got a flu shot yesterday, and my arm kept me awake all night.  It was rather sore.  Us old folks get the super duper flu shot.  Plus, the burner service man hasn't bothered to call me back and I had to shut the heat off this morning so that we wouldn't have any burst pipes.  I finally called a new company and they came out in less than an hour.  The fellow fixed our problem and has just left.  Now I'm going to crawl back under the covers and see if I can get some sleep.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have an awesome day.

A Busy Morning So Far

November 14, 2017

Good afternoon.  I decided this morning that I really should just get dressed and do my grocery shopping and pick up my meds from the pharmacy.  So that's what I did.  By the time I got home, I had used up all the extra breath and energy that I had in me.

Dwarf Helen helped me bring in my groceries from the car.  After I had picked up Pogo and hugged him (and got my doggies kisses!), I began putting everything away.  Then I checked to see if the mailman had come while I was out.  Nope!  That's good because I have a handful of bills to give him.   I don't like to be late paying the bills.

While I was shopping, I did pick up a couple small Christmas gifts.  Now I can check these off my "to make or buy" list.  I'm doing pretty good this year with my list.  I'm just a bit slow on the wrapping part.  I used to love wrapping and decorating packages.  It's not my fun thing to do anymore.

In going through the Herrschner's catalogue, I found something quite interesting that I might like to try later on.  It's called Diamond Dotz.  The ad says "Using an easy to follow chart, arrange the tiny diamond-like facets into color patterns and designs that make your artwork really shine!"  Here is one pattern that I really like and might try.  I think this is beautiful.

I just got an Amazon delivery.  The box contained three new jammies for Pogo.  Now my little guy should be set for Winter.  He likes to sit by the storm door and watch all that is going on outside.  When it is really cold out, you can feel the cold through the glass.  I keep a scatter rug there for him to sit on and the jammies keep him warm.  Of course, when the temps drop down into the thirties, I don't have the inside door open very long.

In one of my other catalogues, I found this tee shirt saying.  It's just a reminder to the younger ones that they shouldn't laugh because us "oldies" aren't up on all the latest technology.

It seems that our mailman got off to a late start today.  After he gets here with the mail, I'll see what's for lunch for Pogo and me.  He may not be too hungry though because he had half a hamburger for breakfast this morning.   I had a cup of Cream of Wheat, so I can definitely make room for lunch.

Last night I made a short video on my phone to help teach Dwarf Helen how to crochet a half double stitch.  I sent it to her via email, so now I need to check to make sure it actually went through.  If not, I'll have to be making a new smaller video.

Well that's my news for today.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have an awesome day.

The Cooler Temps Are Here To Stay

November 13, 2017

Good morning.  At the moment, it is looking rather gray and dismal outside.  But of course, it is still early.  The current temperature is 35F degrees, but should get up to around 44F degrees later today.  The two days this week that are supposed to get up into the fifties are supposed to be rainy days.  Go figure!

Despite the cold weather, there are still some blossoms on the pink rose tree.  It feels so good to look out and see bits of pink.  There's even a lot of green leaves still on the big tree out front.  Obviously, they have thinned out quite a bit, but they are hanging in there for as long as they can.  Here are a couple shots of the roses taken this weekend.

Another plant that I have has turned to seed, sort of like a dandelion.  I don't know what the name of this plant is but it is pretty.

Well, the porch did not get done this weekend.  I did box up all the solar thingies to bring in and wash up before being packed away for the winter, but then I guess I just got side-tracked.  That's my usual, though.  Joe had said that he would vacuum the porch for me but he was busy with other stuff.  Here's a photo he sent me from his other "stuff".

I love all the reflections in the water.  Joe is getting really good at taking photos with his phone.  He says he'll do the porch later today after work.  Hmmm, we'll see.  As I always say, "the best laid plans of mice and men"...............

We've been having some problems with the heat this past week.  Some of the rooms don't seem to be getting any heat, while others are fine.  I've put in a call to the fuel oil company for a refill on the fuel and for a service man to call me.  So far, I haven't heard from anyone.  When I finish this post, I'll have to be calling the company again.

Last night, I did not get much crocheting done.  I spent some time on the phone chatting with a friend and I've learned the hard way not to crochet while I'm talking on the phone.  After the phone call, I decided to just go to bed early.

This morning, I checked the tracking route of my last yarn order, and I am just so surprised at how slow the mails and shipping are nowadays.  The yarn comes from Wisconsin.  It takes at least eight days or more to get an order from there.  If you are ordering from Texas, don't hold your breath.  Their mail is even slower.  Considering the price of stamps and shipping these days, it might be best if we go back to the Pony Express system.

Even local mailing is getting to be quite expensive.  I wonder how long it will be before we lose the current mailing system altogether.  Then what will be do?  Hmmm, something to think about.

I haven't made any plans for today.  Whatever will be, will be.  Can't get side-tracked this way.  haha.  The funny part is that I'll probably accomplish more this way.  Well, enough of my babbling.  It's time to refresh my cup of coffee and do a bit of blog reading.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Crochet Time Is Play Time

November 12, 2017

Good morning.  Brrrr!  It's twenty five degrees this morning!  In a few hours though, the temps will climb up into the forties.  Not the funnest temps, but definitely better than the twenties!

I think my laptop is trying to let me know that it is wanting to retire.  Aside from the fact that is super slow, it is constantly making me change my passwords.  Every so often, I'll try to go somewhere on the web and all of a sudden it won't accept my password or my email.  Yesterday, I couldn't sign in to Amazon.  I finally had to call Amazon Customer Service and have them help me.

A while ago, I bought a new nebulizer set up from Amazon.  Because my meds were being changed around for a while, I hadn't used it until yesterday.   I have to say I like it better than my old machine, which by the way konked out several months ago.  It's light, makes no noise and is easy to pack when you travel.

Yesterday was rather quiet around here.  It was cold outside and I was tired.  Hmmm, I do believe it's the temperature that makes me tired.  The colder it gets, the less active I get.  I wasn't even in the mood to crochet.  Well, that part is my fault.  The night before I had attached a new color and started adding a couple new rows when I realized that I hadn't finished with the previous color yet.  Oh yuk!

Last night I finally picked up my crocheting and took out the new color, re-attached the previous color and fixed my boo boo.  I usually watch something on TV when I crochet, but lots of times Pogo has other ideas.  He loves to check out what I am making, then he likes to hide inside (or beneath) it while I try to crochet.  This is his subtle way of saying "I want to play, Mama!"

Here are a couple of the photos I was able to take of him last night.  I think he likes this afghan.  He is just the cutest little imp!

One of these days, I really have to call the salon and make an appointment for Pogo.  He's looking like a Lion King with all his thick hair.  I won't have her cut it too short because it's Winter and he needs some of it to stay warm.

Last night, I ordered him a couple more pair of jammies.  These are great for the cold nights.  He doesn't always burrow under his blankets and I don't want him catching a cold.  Soon it will be time for us to go to Florida, and we don't want to be getting sick.

Yesterday, we did not get to clean out the porch, so today we'll do that.  In a little while, I'll go out and box up all the solar thingies and bring them inside to wash them.  I'll need to dig out my extra large trash bags to use as covers for the porch furniture.  Once the rug is vacuumed, I'll roll it up and cover it with plastic so that it is ready for next Spring.

Now I think I should get busy and start on that porch.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have an awesome day.

A Weekend To Celebrate Our Veterans

November 10, 2017

Good afternoon.  This morning Deanne and I were at the shooting range.  I must say that today I did much better than the last time we were there.  We have a tendency to close one eye when we are aiming at a target, but today I tried looking at the target straight on with both eyes.  It works much better.  The zombie on my target will never stalk anyone again!

This will be a short post because I'm a bit tired today.  I need to curl up in my lounge chair and rest a bit.  I think I've been fighting off a cold these past few weeks.  I've been treating it like an allergy, but now I'm thinking I have a little cold.

This weekend we honor our veterans.  The holiday began as Armistice Day to mark the end of hostilities of World War I that occurred at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month.   In 1954, it was changed to Veterans Day to honor all US Veterans and victims of all wars.

I got a nice surprise in the mail yesterday.  Thee was a birthday card from my friend Kyra.  Inside the card was a package of reindeer ornaments.  I'm thinking that I may color a few of them before I hang them on my tree.  Thank you Kyra.  That doggie is adorable!

Yesterday morning when I looked outside, I noticed the ground covered with tons of leaves from the Imperial Tree.  Joe had just raked up all the leaves in the parking area the afternoon before.  Overnight, one whole tree gave up all its leaves.  How does this happen?  Not only that, the large tree out front dropped enough new leaves to cover the whole driveway entrance again.

Joe raked up the new leaves and filled a leaf bag with all the leaves from the tree out front and another leaf bag with the leaves from the Imperial Tree.

I've been watching the ads for the Roomba and other similar machines.  My doctor told me a few years ago that I needed to get one of these, but I've been putting it off.  The time is getting close though, when I'll have to give it some serious thought and actually get one.  I still have more home work to do though before I buy one.

Well, that's it for my news today.  It's almost time for Pogo's turkey treat.  So, till Sunday, Y'all have a super weekend.

Hugs, Edna B.

Only 131 Days Till Spring!

November 9, 2017

G00d morning.  The sun is shining, but the air feels a bit nippy.  Temps today are only in the forties, so I have to wear my flannel house coat to ward off a chill.  Brrrr!  Time to start the Spring countdown.  There are 131 days till next Spring.  I wonder if these days will fly by as quickly as the warmer days.

Last evening, DIL Janet came by after work, and my oh my!  Aside from her bag of crocheting, she had two other big bags.  One held a tray of gourmet cookies and a big box that contained a most gorgeous birthday cake.  The cake itself is angel food/strawberry shortcake, and the frosting is oh so light and tasty.

I had ordered us spinach pizzas for supper, and we had the cake for dessert.  I have to tell you that the cake was scrumpdillyicious!  The Pizza was too.  Pogo ate half a slice.  My little guy might be picky, but he does have good taste when it comes to pizza and meat.

The other big bag held lots of goodies for me.  There were two nightshirts, two beautiful coloring books, three packs of pencils and markers and two bags of my favorite candy slices.  By the way, Pogo likes these too.  On top of all this, she gave me a gift card too.  Wowsie!

Did I ever mention how my DIL spoils me?  I love it!!  So, I have plenty to keep me busy for quite a while now.  Between the coloring and the crocheting, my hands should be just fine.

My daughter Deanne just called to remind me that we have an appointment tomorrow morning at the shooting range.  Afterwards, when we get back home, I'm going to try cleaning my gun by myself.  This should be interesting.

Today I need to package up a birthday gift for one of my great granddaughters, Alima, and Joe said that he will take it to the Post Office when he gets home.   He also said that this weekend, he'll vacuum the whole porch for me.  I really appreciate that because vacuuming is difficult for me, and even more so now that my arm is bothering me so much.

While Joe is vacuuming, I'll clean up all my little solar thingies so that I can pack them away for the Winter.  I really don't look forward to closing up the porch, but I'll have to.  The good thing is that the closed porch keeps the inside of my house warmer in the Winter.  It acts like insulation against the cold.

Well, I'm running out of morning now so I guess it's time to get busy and do a few chores.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.
