It's Back To School Time

September 5, 2018

Good morning.  Temps are on the way back up to hot, hot, hot.  Today and tomorrow are promising to be a bit on the warm side.  At the moment, though, it's really quite nice outside.  The sun is shining, there's a tiny little breeze and temps are right about seventy eight degrees.

Today and tomorrow will be quiet days for me and Pogo because of the heat.  But come the weekend, I think we'll get out and do a bit of shopping.  It's been a while since we've gone to Ocean State Job Lot so I think that will be our first stop.

I try not to talk politics here on my blog because it's a touchy subject for a lot of folks and it's a private matter.  But it gets hard not to talk about it when so much depends upon it.  Yesterday's newspaper ran an article (front page) about the millions of dollars that the Federal Government has given out to the states in order for them to secure safety and legitimacy of elections, hopefully this November's elections.

However, most of the states (including Massachusetts) are planning on spending the money after the November elections.  My state (Mass.) says that it has already been working on the security of the election so this money is not vital to running a safe and accurate election.  It has plans to use the money after the election.

My state plans to use a big chunk of this money to implement automatic voter registration.  What exactly is this?  Does this mean folks will not have to show up at town hall anymore to register to vote?  Does this mean they won't have to prove citizenship any more?  Does this mean they don't need the new REAL ID to prove who they are?  Is this just a new shaky means of fattening up the amount of  illegal votes?

I really think that any state not using this money to increase the security of the November elections should not receive the money at all.  I don't really think we need to worry about Russia or other nations interfering with our elections as much as we should worry about all the illegal voting that takes place at our polls.

One voting area that I think needs a huge overhaul is the absentee ballots.  Proof of residence and why a person needs this absentee ballot should be done every couple of years.  I've seen for myself why this system needs a lot of work.  People move, people die, people aren't always honest about their whereabouts.  Town and City Halls need to keep ahead of this.  They are not.

Enough of my rant.  Thanks for listening.

This week lots of our children headed back to school, and some went for the first year.  Here are a couple photos of some of my great grandchildren on their first day of school this year.  First, here is Jack Jack and Lilah.

And here's Alena headed for her first day in the first grade.

There are children all over the country headed back to school, and I'm hoping they all are looking forward to it like ours are.  Education can take you a long way in life.  And it is fun to learn.  Well I think it is anyway.

How about a new quick page?  Today I have one that might be good for some of your "back to school" photos.  Have fun with it.

Now I'm going to freshen up my cup of coffee and do a bit of blog reading.  I like to start with Sean Of The South.   His post yesterday really hit home.  So many folks lives are so busy that they have little or no time to spend with their parents and grandparents.  Here's a friendly reminder....we're a lot older than our children and their families, and there's no guarantee that we'll be here tomorrow.  How's about a hug or a hello today?

I'm off now.  So till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Edna,
Good Morning.
I totally agree with your(rant) and it isn't really a rant but a real concern. I am with you. If the money is not to be used until after the election then it should not be given at all. There are a lot of questions that need to be answered and a lot of people that need to held accountable.

Your QP is just wonderful. I love it. I think that I will use it for my grand kids. I might use it more than once! How about that?

I am hoping that you and my boy will stay cool today. We are almost to 85 degrees already. It will be another scorcher I am sure.

I have tons of calls to make today so I will give you a call or you can call me. Right now I hope that your getting a bit more rest. Tell Pogo that Foxy says "Woof"... Hugs, Beth xoxoxo
