Did You Pick A Derby Winner?

May 4, 2014

Good morning.  We are enjoying a gorgeous sunny morning here in my little part of New England.  Later though, it is supposed to rain, and be wet throughout the night.  I have to work tonight so I don't mind the rain.  Unfortunately, I was not able to convince my co-worker to swap nights with me.  No problem, I'll have me a different weekend off later when the weather is warmer.

Well, did any of you pick a winner in the Kentucky Derby yesterday?  My pick was We Miss Artie.  He did not win, but he did come in tenth.   Did anyone pick California Chrome?  What a fabulous horse!

Yesterday morning, Joe and I did manage to get out to do some food shopping, but I forgot to stop by the post office to mail out my box.  It will have to wait now until tomorrow or Tuesday.  In the afternoon, I did go online to see if Jo-Ann's Fabric store was having any sales on yarn.  I got lucky.  They not only had my favorite yarn on sale, they also had free shipping.

So now I have new yarn coming for another afghan project.  Woo Hoo!!  Here's a photo of how the blue afghan is looking.  Only sixty seven more rows to go.  I do have a couple other patterns that I will work on in between making these ripple afghans.  However, this pattern works up rather quickly which is good because most all of them are being given away.

Yesterday, we had a lot of activity at our bird feeder.  Seems like at least one or two or each different bird family was visiting the feeder.  Here is one of the cardinals.  (photo taken through kitchen window)   Along with his lunch, he was enjoying one of the few patches of sunshine that we got.

We also got to work in one of the gardens for a bit, and Joe planted some of the new bulbs, and a couple of our potted plants.  I also sprinkled some wildflower seeds about.  Hopefully, some of these seeds will grow into colorful flowers.

While I had the camera out, I couldn't help but take a few photos of my handsome little guy.  Here he is relaxing in his bed.  He just seems to get cuter every day.

I have one more photo to share.  Deanne sent this one to me Friday evening of Kevin and his prom date just before they left to go to their Junior Prom.   Gosh, they look beautiful.  My goodness, but our little ones are just about all grown up.  Kevin is my next to youngest grandchild.  Methinks I'm getting old!

That's all my news for this morning.  Now I'm going to spend some quality time with Pogo.  Poor thing is sitting here next to me and looking so neglected.  I guess a hug is in order.  (plus a turkey treat!)   So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.\

Hugs, Edna B.

ONLY 76 more rows to go! You are much more patient than I am.
Kevin is very handsome and his date is beautiful. Where does the time go....it seems like they were just toddlers yesterday.

Your afghan is really going quick! That ripple zig zag(I think they call it also chevron) pattern looks great!
Pity you couldn;t swap your shift, but okay, you are right, there will be another opportunity when the weather is more summerlike.
Gosh, Kevin looks so handsome on his prom photo! And the girl has a beautiful dress!
Yeah, time is fleeding, and it's doing so even more when we are getting older.
Take a good nap after your shift and have a wonderful day. Cuddle to Pogo.

My sister and I wish we had money on California Chrome. We chose him because he was owned by blue collar folks~ what a beauty and when he crossed that finish line it was almost as if he said "What was that you said about my mother?" They paid less than ten thousand dollars for him and it was said his mother would not bred well! LOL! Love that derby.
Pogo is precious. Love seeing him here.
Have a wonderful week.

Yes, I did pick California Chrome to win the derby and had fun watching it....but of course, I had no money on the race!
Sorry you didn't get the time off, but am sure you will next time.
LOVE, love, love that afghan...great colors and beautiful work...hope the recipients are very grateful for all the love you put in them.
My mother quilted tops (a few made it to actual quilts, but I didn't get one) and I have one that I need to get quilted. I have a few items that she crocheted, knitted and even some embroidery she did. I don't have those skills (maybe interest is better word), but my sister Kathy does the knitting and crocheting. I just do scrapping and genealogy! Penny is not interested in either of these...LOL we are all very different aren't we?
What a lovely couple Kevin and his date make, hope they had fun! He is certainly handsome! Off to next one~Hugs!!
