Gosh, it's 6:05 a.m. and it's totally black outside. This is another part of Winter that I don't like. The mornings and late afternoons are very dark outside. Yesterday at 4:30 p.m. it was dark out. I so loved it when it was still daylight at 9 o'clock at night. The sad part of all of this is that it isn't even Winter yet!!
Well, yesterday I did go out to do a bit of shopping. I left with a shopping list of sixteen items. Two and a half hours later, I came home with five bags and only three items from my list. Well, dag nab it! I have to learn to stick to only items on my list!
This morning I turned to my trusty laptop and shopped on-line for a couple of the items that I was looking for yesterday. One of the things that I did get yesterday was the packing tape, so now I can finish packing a couple of boxes that need to be mailed out.
I think I have finally decided on another company to finish the work on the outside of the house. They will let me know today if they can start the work next Monday. If they can, they get the job. I'll feel so good when all this work is done.
Enough chatter. Today is Mandarin Orange Monday, and I have made a layout for today. It's not what one would call photo art or photography. It's more like a statement. This Thursday is Thanksgiving, and I am not happy about the stores being open for business. There does not seem to be any family morals in big business.
When I was a kid, the stores did not open on Sundays or holidays. One could spend the day going to church with the family, or getting together for a family holiday dinner. Wouldn't it be nice if we could have this back? Anyway, this is what prompted me to make a layout for today. I got the round orange sign from my daughter's facebook. The little kid waiting for his family to come home from shopping is my Pogo.
No one really needs to go out shopping on a holiday. Most of the big sales are available for on-line shopping. If you sign up on-line with all the stores in your area, they send you emails with sneak peeks of all their sale items, and they let you order these items on-line. Why would anyone want to fight hordes of shoopers when you can get all your items delivered right to your door?
Now I think it's time to make a cup of coffee and some breakfast. Maybe today I will start taping a couple of programs on DVD's for my daughter Audrey. Sounds like a plan! So, till tomorrow, Y'all be safe and have a wonderful day.

Even though we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here in Australia. I totally agree with you about stores being open on holidays that should be family time only.
I love your protest layout it speaks volumes.

At least a dozen U.S. mega-retailers are opening for the first time this Thanksgiving Day. It’s the latest example of the race to the bottom led by Walmart, the nation’s largest employer, which for years has scheduled work on Thanksgiving. The expansion of hours will take more than a million employees away from their families during the holiday. The big retailers say it’s their employees’ choice, but it's hardly a choice: If they’re scheduled but don’t work, it’s counted as a missed day, and too many missed days mean they’re fired. If they’re working part-time (as an increasing number are) they can’t afford not to work when they’re scheduled to.
Last week the general counsel of the National Labor Relations Board found Walmart had “unlawfully threatened, disciplined and/or terminated employees” at stores in 13 states, for protesting pay and working conditions in the last year’s “Black Friday” walkouts. Please support Walmart workers – and, by extension, low-wage workers across America – by boycotting Walmart this Friday. You might go a step further: Don’t shop in any big retailer Thanksgiving Day. Spread the word.

If these companies want to open on the Holidays let the CEO and their executives run the store while the average worker spends the day with their families.
I don't know about over there but if anyone in Australia works on a public holiday they are paid double time.
Over here Christmas Day and Good Friday are now the only two days that are kept as Holidays. All of our other public holiday days have been opened up to shopping. They say it's for the tourists.......yeah right. It's only the big multi nationals that have pushed for it, not the "little" store owner.

I'm with you on the shorter days. The best thing about the first day of winter is the days start getting longer!
I posted that little sign on my facebook page yesterday. (Minus Pogo of course) There is absolutely no reason to be shopping on Thanksgiving. People are so greedy they can't even take one day out of the year to be thankful. I'm glad to see I'm not alone in feeling this way.
P.S. Stores were closed on Sunday when I was a kid too.
Very well put and I love the collage you put together to show it. I also remember those days when there "was nothing to do" because everything was closed. As a kid I hated being bored, but now I appreciate the fact that boredom is good because it's giving the brain a chance to rest.
There was something on TV lately about the Black Friday and the studies show that many of the so called sales were not really big savings and that the prices had actually been lower at points prior to the holiday.
It's all wrapped up in that mob mentality and I hate having to fight crowds in the first place so have never been much of a black Friday shopper to start with.
Am glad that in L.A. many stores are closed on Thanksgiving, and there's no traffic lines!! Never shopped on Thanksgiving day, unless it was something I forgot for the big dinner, and after my kids grew up, I'm not shopping on the day after:)
I signed the Target protest and what did they do but open earlier on Thanksgiving than they were going to. I won't be shopping on Thursday or Friday. I always thought shopping on Friday was crazy anyway.
You have been very busy getting all yours done. I think I save money not going out. I am too easily distracted and buy things for myself or things I don't need.

Agree with you that stores shouldn;t be open on big holidays, There's time enough to do your shopping for presents or for groceries in the time before. Here too several shops are open on e.g. Christmas, or Easter and I think everybody deserves to be free on those days.
Ha, I know the feeling going out with a shopping list and coming back with all kind of things, but almost NOT the things written on the list LOL! So mostly I just go out shopping without a list. I look around in the house what I might need and most of the time I get back with that stuff(but also with some extras, if e.g. there is a good discount on it in the supermarket).
You better take a quiet day today, still have to be careful for the virus, you need some rest again!

Morning...kind of chilly here, but we dodged the real bullet yesterday. Only got a little sleet on tree limbs and lines (28k without electricity), all back today and the flurries stayed to our west, but the windchill is in the 20's all day.
I am glad you are feeling better and love all your photos again. Oh and I agree, not shopping on Thanksgiving Day except maybe online. I won't be in the mess on Black Friday either, but will do some small businesses on Saturday and definitely cyber Monday....LOL!

I agree..shops should be closed on holidays - although we don't have Thanksgiving here...and I to remember when Sundays were a quite relaxing day with a big baked dinner for lunch. Even Saturday afternoons were quiet...shops used to shut at midday. Now people are forced to work shifts on Sundays and holidays... awful.
