Happy Halloween

October 31, 2021

Tonight's the night for the big annual ride.   Once more, I will not be able to join my friends, but I'll be with them in spirit.  Who knows, maybe a few of them will stop by and say hello.  I'll keep a pot of hot coffee ready just in case.

Today is gray and wet, but my phone app says that the sun will be shining soon.  (my phone does lie from time to time)  Temps will be in the low sixties.  After today, temps drop and night temps will be going down into the thirties.  Brrr!

There's not a lot on TV to watch this morning, so I'm watching Curious George.  George is busy trying to find out why the ghost of a headless scarecrow keeps stealing folks' hats every Halloween.  No gory stuff.  Just lots of scary fun stuff.

Oh wow, now the Cat In The Hat is on.  I wonder what he's up to for Halloween.  He is taking the kids to the Ooky Makooky Closet to find some wonderful costumes to wear trick or treating.  So they all hopped into the Thingamajigger and were off on a new adventure.

Today I think I'll cook up a pot of garlic spaghetti.  It seems like the right thing to eat on a fun day like this.  Later, I think I'll wrap and package a couple of gifts.  One needs to be mailed tomorrow to get to Laura in time for her birthday.  The other will be the start of my Christmas packaging.

Today is my third day of trying Hemp Gummies.  They taste really good but I don't know if they actually work.  I should know soon.  Deanne ordered some too.  These things are expensive, but are supposed to ease pain.  We'll soon see.

Now I should get busy reading blogs.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN,

Hugs, Edna B.

Tis Almost Halloween

October 29, 2021

Good morning.  Have you noticed?  We're running out of October.  In three days, it will be another new month.

I just spent forty five minutes going through all the products on a web site and picking out the items I wished to buy.  Then when I typed in the code to get a reduced shipping rate, the code was not accepted.  This is frustrating because now I have to call the company and place the order again, provided that they accept the shipping code.

A while ago, I ordered two My Pillows.  I got the "firm" ones.  When they came, I tried one of them and decided that it was too firm for me.  So, I gave the pillows to my son in law Eddie.  (he likes them)  Then I ordered two more pillows, this time not quite so firm.  They arrived yesterday, and they are perfect.

I also ordered a bottle of Peppermint Oil.  I don't mind sharing space with some dust bunnies, but I don't like sharing with the mice.  They come in when it gets cold.  Today I shall spray the peppermint oil around my pantry and my kitchen counter.  I'll spray a few other places too.  I just hope it works.

This weekend lots of folks will be out celebrating Halloween.  Please, please keep your kitty cats indoors.  Especially your black kitty cats.  People can be mean.

A lot of the local schools are still closed because all the power is not back on everywhere yet.  The light company hopes to have it all restored by tomorrow.

Now I'm going to make some breakfast and enjoy some blog reading.  So, till Sunday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous weekend.

Just $9.95 A Month

October 28, 2021

Good morning.  Today is gray and cool.  Temps may get up as high as fifty later today.  According to my phone app, we probably won't be seeing the sun again until next Monday.  The good news is that the storm has gone by and we're okay.

We had a lot of rain and the wind was really perky, but we did not lose our electric power.  Deanne lives a few minutes away, and her town lost the power for more than sixteen hours.  We were very lucky.

This morning, there are a lot of school closings listed on the TV.  All the towns and cities around here, including our town.  Some got hit pretty hard from the storm, and some still don't have their electric power restored.

Folks, last night the unthinkable happened.  I got to watch a program on TV for a whole hour, and not once did they mention anything about Medicare and it's new programs.  Awesome!

I got an interesting piece of mail this week.  You know the ad that wants you to buy insurance for $9.95 a month?  Well, they sent me a list of their policy prices.  You're not really going to get very much for your $9.95.  I'll just show the figures for Age 75.   Cost per month / Coverage

Female:     $9.95 / $762         $49.95 / $3810        $89.55 / $6858       $119.40 / $9144

Male:         $9.95 / $549        $49.95 / $2745        $89.55 / $4941        $119.40 / $6588

I wonder how many folks were shocked to find out how many $9.95 units they would have to buy every month in order to have any coverage at all.

Now for something light.  I found this adorable image on the web and just had to share.  I hope it brings you a giggle to start your day.

All I can say is Please, not my car!  Now I'm off to enjoy some blog reading.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Oldies But Goodies

October 26, 2021

Good morning.  Tis gray and wet outside today.  I guess it will be like this for another couple days.  During the night, it rained hard a couple of times.  I'm sure there's a lot more coming.

Yesterday, I had a call from my heart doctor.  I'm good to go till my next appointment with him in early December.  Then I had an appointment with my primary care doctor.  Again, I'm all set for another three months.  I was hoping for six months, but I'll take the three.

My youngest daughter's birthday is coming up soon.  It's hard to believe that she will be fifty six years old.  Harder yet to understand is that in a few years all my children will be senior citizens.  That's a "Wow" thought.  On the other hand, not many folks get to experience this.  So I guess it's a really good "Wow" thought!

Here's a delightful image that I borrowed from the web.  I can just picture one of my peers climbing a ladder to paint this graffiti on a neighborhood wall.  I love this sort of feistiness.

I really didn't do much in  the way of chores yesterday, so today I think I'll start with a bag full of junk mail.  Once that 's done, who knows.  It depends on how I feel then.  One thing is for sure, I won't be climbing any ladders with a bucket of paint and a brush.

Now I'm off to watch Perry Mason and do a bit of blog reading.  So, till Thursday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

A Snowless Nor'easter

October 25, 2021

Good morning.  Tis wet and gray today.  A "snowless nor'easter" is expected to slam Massachusetts this week with buckets of rain and powerful 60mph wind gusts that could lead to toppled trees and power outages across the region.  The slow-moving significant coastal storm should last from last Monday night through Wednesday, bringing several inches of rain and damaging wind gusts.  (according to Google)

I don't know if the numbers are legible on this map, so I've made it bigger.  It looks like we could get somewhere between three and six inches of rain.  Time to get out the canoe.

Well, I worked on my crochet projects yesterday and two of them are ready for wrapping and packaging.  I finished the pockets for the wraps and now I just have to sew them on to the wraps.  That just leaves the doggie blanket to finish (about sixteen more rows to go) and the mystery project to finish. (three quarters done)

Today I have an appointment with my primary care doctor.  It's just a regular check up appointment, but I already wish it were all over.  I don't like going to the doctor.  Hopefully, I won't have to go back till next Spring.

I found a wonderful photo of Dracula Simia orchids and thought I'd share it with you.  This variety of orchids looks just like baby monkeys.  Wouldn't it be fun to look out and see a bunch of these in your garden?

Perry Mason is on TV now so I'm off to watch him.  Till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Tis Snuggy Weather

October 24, 2021

Good morning.  Tis sunny and cool.  Temps will stay in the fifties all week with maybe some rain.  It's definitely snuggy weather.  Years ago, "snuggies" meant long warm underwear.  Nowadays it means an oversized sweatshirt type item lined with fleece.  I meant it the old fashioned way.  Here are pictures of the old versus the new.

Today I'm going to try to spend a bit more time on my crochet projects.  I'd really like to get them finished soon.  It's coming on time to start wrapping and packing this stuff.  According to the schedules put out by the Postal service and UPS, all packages need to be in the mail much earlier this year if we want them to make it to their destinations on time.

Update on Cerys:  She is still in the hospital waiting for all her test results to reach a point where the doctors agree that she can go home.  We're all hoping that will be soon.

I spoke with my cousin on the phone and her little dog Ginger has not been doing so well lately.  She's on meds now and doing a little better.  I hope she's up and perky again real soon.  It hurts when our fur babies are sick.  My cousin is beside herself waiting for Ginger to get better.  I'll have to call her when I finish posting here to see how things are today.

Tis pumpkin season and lots of folks are carving and decorating pumpkins to show off on their porches and steps.  Audrey and some of her friends got together recently and painted their pumpkins.  Great job ladies!  They also have unpainted pumpkins that will be put out in the woods for the animals to enjoy.

Now before I leave to start this new day, let me share a cute item that I borrowed from the web.  This is me to a tee!

So till tomorrow,  Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Super Beets For The Heart

October 22, 2021

Good morning.  Today should be sunny with temps in the upper sixties.  Slowly, we're dipping back into the cooler temps.  Indian Summer doesn't last very long.

I got a lot of good sleep during the night.  In clumps of time, of course.  I can't remember when I last slept for more than three hours at a time.   As long as I can keep going back to sleep after each clump of time, it's okay.

I've been taking two Super Beet Chewies every day for months now.  I don't know if they are helping to keep my blood pressure down, but at my last doctor visit my blood pressure was the lowest it has been in a long time.  These chewies are super tasty!

The ad says: "Clinically shown to promote normal blood pressure as part of a healthy lifestyle.  Provide circulatory support.  Promote plant-based, heart healthy energy.  Support heart health.  Provide antioxidant support to help protect against oxidative stress & damage.  Plus they are made with no artificial sweeteners, flavors or colors."

In response to Steve's question about the Raven stamp, I did look it up and found:  "The Raven Story represents a great meaning to the indigenous people of the Northwest Coast" said Jakki Krage Strako, the Postal Service's chief commerce and business solutions officer and executive vie president.  Art director Antonio Alcala designed the stamp based on art created by Tlingit/Athabascan designer and artist Rico Worl.  There was more information if anyone is interested in looking it up.

While I was looking for this information, I came across the Raven poem by Edgar Allen Poe, and read it again.  Tis quite a sad story.  The poem made Poe popular in his lifetime, but it did not bring him much financial success.

The mailman has just been here and I'm about to go out and pick up the mail.  So, till Sunday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous weekend.

The Raven

October 21, 2021

Good morning.  Today is supposed to be (according to my phone app) sunny with temps in the toasty seventies.  Woo Hoo!  It most likely won't last more than a day or two but I'll enjoy it while it's here.

Yesterday was one of those days that perplexes my last nerve.  (how's that for poetry?)  I started to pay some bills and soon realized that I was running out of checks.  Now I had to go online and order more checks.  Next I started to put together a bank deposit only to find that I had no deposit slips.  Deanne to the rescue.  She stopped on her way home from work and picked me up some deposit slips.  Thank you Deanne.

My mother used to tell me that if my head weren't attached to my shoulders, I'd lose it.  Some days I have to agree with her.  It's amazing how I can be so amazingly put together on some days, and on other days I'm totally falling apart.

Today I ordered something on Ebay to be shipped directly to the recipient, but for some reason, it would not let me change the shipping address to suit my needs.  Now I shall have to re-ship the item after it comes to me.  Remember that last nerve?  It's beginning to twang.

I don't remember if I posted a photo of my new Raven stamps, but I found a little story that explains the Raven's story.  The Raven is quite a handsome and powerful looking bird.

Yesterday, the items that I had ordered for the dwarfs' Christmas gifts arrived.  Now I just have to pick up one more item and those gifts will be ready for wrapping and tagging.

I just thought of one more item that I'll have to order.  Bows.  The bows make the wrapped package look complete.  Years ago, I would spend hours wrapping gifts and making the bows for each package.  Nowadays this is not so much fun.  I much more enjoy buying wrapping bags and ready made bows.

Today or tomorrow I shall do a load of laundry and I'll try one of those new Earth Breeze laundry sheets.  I'll let you know how if it works out okay.  I think I'll give a few of these sheets to the dwarfs and let them try them out too.

Here's another goodie that I borrowed from the web.  I wonder, has this happened to any of you?  I hope it starts your day with a fun giggle.

Now I'm off to enjoy some blog reading.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Brrr!

October 19, 2021

Good morning.  Tis nippy!  Only 42F degrees!  I'm not ready for this.  The sun will shine today and temps may get up to sixty degrees later this afternoon.  Wednesday, Thursday and Friday should be warmer, then it's back to the fifties degrees temps.  It's time to put the heat on.

This week I'm busy making grocery orders to be delivered from two different markets.  One order came yesterday, and one will come today.  However, I did forget a few things so I made another order for tomorrow.  That last order will also have some gift items on it.

Yup, I've been getting some of my holiday shopping done.  I think I'm at least half done now.  Of course, I still have to wrap and tag everything.  I've even started putting my card list together.  I'm not making my own card this year, but I'll still be sending cards.

To my friend Jan who suggests that I ask Disney if they have a flying carpet that I could use or maybe rent;  I did call but their prices are even worse.  Besides, they only do business with the witches in their stories.

While poking around on the web, I found this awesome tee shirt.  It's perfect for me!

I wonder who thinks up all these awesome sayings for the tee shirts.  What a wonderful fun job it must be.

Here's another thing I found while surfing the web.  Did you know this about crayons?  I didn't, and it really is good to know.

I slept late this morning, so I haven't had time to make breakfast yet.  So that's what I think I'm going to do now.  I'll make a cup of coffee too.  That will help to warm me up.  Then I'm going to enjoy reading some blogs.  So, till Thursday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Bye Bye Stickies

October 18, 2021

Good morning.  It's early yet, not quite five thirty a.m.  It's fifty degrees and cloudy, but when the sun comes out, temps will rise up into the upper fifties.  It's beginning to get nippy!

Just a few more hours and I can take these stickies off me.  Deanne will be by after work to collect the monitor and take it to the doctor's office.  Let's hope I put it back on the right way after it fell off so that I don't have to wear it again.  It doesn't hurt, it's just a nuisance.

I had a lot of big ideas of what I might do yesterday, but, well, life came along and changed all that.  I got side tracked looking at something on the web and that did it.  However, I did manage to put a few more rows on my crochet projects.

Some soup mugs that I had ordered were delivered, along with some holiday gift wrap bags.  While I was outside picking up my packages, I noticed that I have two pink roses on my rose tree.  Deanne's roses are looking beautiful too.  Here's a photo she took a couple days ago.  This is one of her long stemmed beauties by the front porch.

The big annual ride is coming up soon.  Less than two weeks away.  Again, I won't be joining my friends on this ride.  I've decided that I need something a bit bigger than the broom to sit on.  Alas, have you checked out the prices of flying carpets lately?  Wow!  They are worth more than gold almost!  I would have to trade my car in to get one, and I'm not ready to get rid of my car.  Hmmm, a carpet really would be nice though.

I've been channel surfing to find something interesting to watch.  So far, all I've found is Dragnet, so I guess I'll watch that for a while.  It's on twice.  Create channel doesn't really have anything interesting until seven o'clock.  Aha!  Shop LC is on!  Did you know that there are only 68 days till Christmas?  It's time to get serious about shopping.

Soon, I'm going to head out to the kitchen to see about some breakfast.  First, let me share an adorable cartoon that I borrowed from the web.  Most folks don't know it, but witches are big softees when it comes to animals!  I just love this image.

Now I'm off to see the wizard.  Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

A-Fib And Eliquis

October 17, 2021

Good morning.  Today will be cooler and sunny.  Temps will only make it into the low sixties.  During the night we had a bit of heavy rain so everything (outside) is rather soggy right now.

Well, Friday I had my appointment with the heart doctor and now I'm on another new medicine.  It seems I have A-Fib.  The new medicine is Eliquis.  And its cost is outrageous.  For now, the doctor is giving me samples.  If the medicine does what it's supposed to do, he will help me figure out how to pay for the stuff.

I came home wearing a monitor with a couple of feeds coming off it.  It has only fallen off twice.  No problem, I put it back on with a new sticky pad.  It has to stay on for a minimum of twenty four consecutive hours.  So, if I make it past noon today, I'll be all set.  Woo Hoo!

Meanwhile, Baby Cerys is still in the hospital with some of these same stickies on her.  The doctors are still running tests and so far no firm answers.  She still has a great big beautiful smile.  I have a photo I'd like to share.  This is a favorite of mine.  This is the look of love between a girl and her Dad.

Meanwhile, I picked up my crocheting again and put a few rows on each project.  And last night I spent some time surfing the web looking for ideas to finish my holiday shopping.  Mostly what to get for the dwarfs.

While I was on the web I came across an article that I found to be wicked funny and wanted to share with you.  There's a photo and then the author's (Kelli Russell Agodon) post.

This is just so funny.  I've done this very thing.  Not with a white rabbit, of course, but the same type of thing.  It feels good to know I'm not alone.

This morning I seem to have picked up a bit of perky energy, so I'm going to try to accomplish a few things.  Take out the trash, take out the recycles, wash the dishes, etc.  Maybe even a load of laundry.  We'll see how long the perky lasts.

Now I'm off to catch up with some blog reading.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Indian Summer

October 15, 2021

Good morning.  Today should be sunny with some clouds, and temps reaching seventy one degrees.  Another pretty Indian Summer day.

Indian summer -- A warm, calm spell of weather occurring in autumn, especially in October

When I was a kid, there was always an Indian summer.  As I grew older, this pleasant part of Autumn seemed to disappear most years.  But then again, a lot of the regular weather patterns have changed over the years since I was a kid.

Yesterday was nice.  Deanne and I went to get ice cream sundaes.  Yum!  They were delicious!  Pretty soon the ice cream stand will be closing for the year.  I'm going to miss it.

Today's post will be short.  I have a lot to do this morning and I have to get ready for my doctor appointment.  It's just a regular check up with my heart doctor.  Then I hope I don't have to see him again till Spring.

I read about a new detergent on the web and thought I'd give it a try.  It's called Earth Breeze.  It's supposed to be better for the earth and all the animals in the oceans.  I hope so.  And I hope it doesn't cause any allergy problems.  I'm going to order some and try it.

It's time to make another grocery order for delivery.  I'm starting to run out of some things.  Maybe I'll order it later today for delivery over the weekend.  While I'm at it, I think I'll cook up a pot of pasta for supper.

Now I really must get busy around here.  So, till Sunday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Fourteen Years And Still Here

October 14, 2021

Good morning.  Today is sunny and temps will be in the high sixties.  Deanne is coming by after work and we're going to treat ourselves to ice cream.  I'll make mine a strawberry sundae.  Yum!

My friend Kyra asks "did I have the taters and eggs the other day?"  Yes, I did and it was delicious!  Another favorite of mine is to fry up some green peppers and scramble them with eggs.  Mmmm.  I may have to make some soon.

You know, I just realized that I've been posting on my blog for fourteen years.  Wow!  I never thought when I started this blog that I'd still be here fourteen years later.  It has been one of the best things I ever did.  I've met so many wonderful folks and made some awesome friends through blogging.  And in case I don't say it often enough, I'm thankful for all of you and I appreciate all the wonderful comments.  When I have my blog books printed, I do include all the comments.

Today I'd like to share an ad that I found on the web.  I had to laugh at the wording "ANTI-MUFFINTOP SOLUTION."   Hmmm, I wonder if it works.

Today I have to decide whether or not I should give up my subscription to SiriusXM radio.  I've had it in my car for many years, but now I don't get to drive very often so I don't get to listen to my car radio very often either.  Considering that it's not cheap, I may just let it go.  I thought about getting it for "in the house" but I watch TV most of the time in the house.  It's not easy giving up favorite things.

I think this year I need to have the tires and the battery on my car checked.  I've been told that it takes a toll on these things when a car sits in the yard for a long time without being driven.  I try to keep my car in good shape.

The mailman has just come so I'll be off now to go out and get the mail.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

A Great Day To Be Thankful

October 12, 2021

Good morning.  Today we'll have sunshine, and temps will reach seventy.  Woo Hoo!  I want to thank everyone for your prayers and good wishes for Baby Cerys.  She is doing so much better now, and we're hoping that she will be able to go home soon.

These past few months, my wrists have been a bit achy, so I've been wearing soft wrist braces (from Amazon.),  They really do seem to help.  I ordered a new pair and they arrived yesterday.

A couple years ago, I found some wonderful soup bowls with locking lids at Ocean State Job Lot.  I love them.  Lately, I saw some soup mugs with locking lids on QVC and ordered a set of them.

I don't need the little boxes, just the mugs and covers.  These are great for eating soup, pasta, cereal, and just about everything.  I suppose I could save the boxes and use them for wrapping small gifts.  Tis a win win!

I've been trying to put a few rows on each of my crochet projects.  The doggie blanket is two rows shy of being half done, while the mystery project has sixty more rows to go.  Slowly I'm getting there.

Today I'm going to shop around the web for ideas on what to get the dwarfs as gifts from Santa.  Every year I rack my brain to come up with something that they all can use.  I'm leaning towards getting them each a new blanket.  Just a thought.

Well, Perry Mason is on TV now so I'm going to watch it.  So, till Thursday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Tis A Lovely Autumn Day Here In New England

October 11, 2021

Good morning.  So fsr, this is a gray day.  My phone app says we'll have temps in the mid sixties and maybe even a little sunshine.  Actually a pretty nice Autumn day.

Our new baby Cerys has not been doing very well.  We've all been worried, and praying for her.  Today she is doing much better.  She's quite feisty and so precious.  We are blessed.

Today is a quiet day around here.  It's Columbus Day and the guys who aren't at work are just relaxing and enjoying a long weekend.  It's a good day for watching TV and crocheting.  My favorite TV programs are on today, Perry Mason and Law & Order.  In between, I think I'll wash a couple of my favorite dresses and hang them out on the line to dry.

There are a lot of colds going around, and I found this lovely old medicinal recipe on the web.  It might be just the thing for clearing up a cold.  Alas, I have everything but the whiskey.

I did not have those taters and eggs yesterday.  Instead, I had a bowl of chicken soup.  However, I do think I'll have the taters and eggs later today.  Maybe for supper.  I may even have a piece of fried chicken with it.  Yum yum!

Speaking of food, I found this really cute image on the web and just had to share it.  I had to laugh because I do love donuts.

The morning is slipping by and I have blogs to read.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Cleaning With Orange Peels?

October 10, 2021

Good morning.  Today is gray with temps in the low to mid sixties.  Brrr.  Gosh, if only there were a way to keep the warm sunny temps with us till next Spring gets here.  Alas, it won't happen.

I'm just not a snow bunny.  Actually, the snow wouldn't be so bad if it would come when the temp are warm, but of course that can't happen.  Can you imagine?  Frosty would have to be can of water instead of a snowman.  Nah, that wouldn't be so good.

It's really quiet around here.  Sometimes too quiet.  Summer has a sort of bubby attitude even on a quiet day.  But the cold temps bring on a stillness.  No pretty colors, no bubbles.  Just a cold quiet.  Okay, that's my poetry lesson for the day.

Last night, I worked on my crochet projects for a while.  Most of them should be finished by the end of the month.  After that it will be "afghan" time.

What do you do with your orange peels when you eat an orange?  Like me, you probably throw them out.  However, they can be very useful.  I borrowed this article from the web to share.  I have an orange in my fridge, so I think I'll give this one a try.

My mind is starting to wander to thoughts of food.  I woke up earlier this morning (at 5 a.m.) hungry. so I had breakfast before going back to bed.  Soon it will be noon and I'm craving food again.   While I was sleeping, I had a dream that had me cooking potatoes and eggs.  So now I'm thinking that maybe I'll cut up some potatoes and fry them in butter.  Then I'll scramble a couple eggs in with them.  Add a little pepper, and yum yum!

Here's a beautiful picture that someone sent to me.  Oh my, so many beautiful brooms!  So little time!  You know that orange broom is calling out to me.

Now I think I'll enjoy a bit of blog reading before getting busy with the potatoes and eggs.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

It's Pumpkin Season

October 8, 2021

Good morning.  Tis sunny and just a bit nippy this morning.  I slept late this morning and it felt really good.

I realize I haven't put up my October calendar yet, but that's because I set my exterior hard drive down one day and haven't been able to find it since.  Boo Hoo!  So, this morning, I took a photo of the October page to share with you.

Today is "Everything Under $10 Day" on the ShopLC channel so I thought I would watch it for a while.  Unfortunately, there is one female host who really plucks my last hair with her very loud shenanigans.  She's not a young person, so her noisy behavior is rather distracting.  (hooting and hollering)  Well, at least to me anyway.   So, I turn the volume down very low and I get to see all the bargains.

Well, last evening I finished my new book "Behind The Scenes."  Awesome!  I'm going to package them up and send them to a friend of mine.  Her hands don't work so good anymore so she can't do her crafts, but she can still read.  I know she'll enjoy these books.

Tis the season when folks are buying pumpkins to display around their house and yard.  What will you do with the pumpkin when it is time to get rid of it?  Did you know that it is good for animals?  Do smash it open and put it out for the wildlife in your area.

Yesterday, I did a bit of crocheting.  I put a couple more rows on the doggie blanket, and it's looking rather pretty.  Here's  photo of what I have done so far.  Sorry that the red and green colors just don't come out as pretty as they really are.  In reality, they are darker and the white is whiter.

Today, I'd like to finish the pockets and maybe even sew them on to the wraps.  Or maybe I'll go online and try to finish up a bit of my gift shopping.  We'll see.  Last night, I tried shopping for a while, and I found so many different ideas that I bought nothing.  Now that's sad.  I had something specific in mind, but found so many different versions of it that I could not make up my mind.

Well, the morning is slipping by me and it's time for me to enjoy some blog reading.  So, till Sunday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous weekend.

Welcome Cerys

October 7, 2021

Good morning.  Today is sunny and temps will actually make it to the low seventies.  It's not going to last though.  These old bones feel it in the cooler early morning temps.  It's almost time to put the heat on in the house.

First, my Fedex package did arrive Tuesday.  It was the new TV that I had bought for the main house. Yesterday, after work,  Deanne came by and took the TV into the house, set it up, and hooked it up to the new antenna that I had bought.  By the time she finished, the guys had quite a selection of channels to watch.  I'm quite proud of Deanne.  This was a job that none of the guys in the house were able to do.  (all the dwarfs are guys)

More super news!!  My newest great granddaughter was born yesterday morning.  Cerys made her entrance into the world weighing 8 lbs. 12 oz, 21.5 inches.  Welcome, little one.  May God Bless you with a long, healthy, happy life.

Yesterday's mail brought my new book "Behind The Scenes."  Of course, I had to have a peek inside it, and it's hard to put it down.  The printing is small, so I do only read so many pages at a time.  Miss Keckley was an amazing woman.  For anyone who enjoys a bit of history with their story, you'll really enjoy these two books.  (Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker by Jennifer Chiaverini and Behind The Scenes by Elizabeth Keckley)   ($14.99 and $6.85 respectively at Amazon)

The new Christmas gift bags also arrived so now I can begin to wrap a few things.  I'm working on the pockets for these last two pocket shawls.  Pretty soon they'll be ready for wrapping.  Then I just have to finish the doggie blanket that I'm making for my cousin's little dog Ginger.

Little by little I'm getting my projects finished.  It's a great feeling, but it's also a bit sad.  I'll just have to start another big project.  hahaha.  Actually, I already have the yarn for the next big project.  It's going to be an afghan for one of my great grandchildren.

Before I leave to do a bit of blog reading, let me share a giggle with you.  Image was borrowed from the web.

Now I'm off to do a bit of visiting.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Still Waiting For That Fedex Delivery

October 5, 2021

Good morning.  Today is probably going to be a gray drying out day.  It rained through most of the night so everything is soaked.  Temps today should stay in the fifties.

Yesterday's package never did arrive.  I called Fedex and was told that one of the drivers was out sick and therefore several packages (mine included) would not be delivered until today.  It would have been nice if they had notified me.  So today I'm keeping a watch to see when the package comes.

I also did a bit of research about the check that came in the mail.  It seems that it was payment for a book that had come in the mail that I had not ordered and sent back.  I guess this is something we have to watch out for.  When you return something that you did not order, you should also check your credit cards to see if the company has already been paid for the (un-ordered) item.  In this case, the company had billed a credit card that I had used when I purchased an earlier item.  Are they supposed to keep your credit information on file?

Well, I finished reading my book "Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker."  It was a great book and I recommend it for anyone, especially history buffs.  In the book, I learned that the Dressmaker, Elizabeth Keckley, had written a book.  So, I found it on Amazon and ordered it.  It should arrive tomorrow.

Do you remember the old saying "If my mother were alive today, she'd be rolling over in her grave" ?  Well my mother would definitely be rolling.  Over and over.  Some of today's newer TV commercials would have my mother rolling in fits.  She was old school and there were some things that we just never talked out loud about.  Anyone in my age group will know what those taboo subjects were.

The latest of these commercials is about a birth control product.  It starts out with a woman in an all pink room, saying "Welcome to my vagina."  She's expecting company, and tells us all about her newest birth control item.  Oh Lord, my poor mother!

Then to make matters worse, I went to look something up on Google and this article popped up.

Do you believe that someone actually paid  to have this topic researched?  Did I read it? Yes.  And I was dumbfounded at how many very wealthy women actually wanted this issue explained to them.  There were several well known names mentioned in the article.  Although the article did not have a definite answer, it did mention several different methods currently being used. Aye Yi Yi Yi Yi!

You know, some days it's good to be old.  You won't find many eighty year olds wearing bodysuits.  So this won't be a problem for us.

This is enough excitement for me so I'm going to do some blog reading now.  Till Thursday, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

The "Eyes" Have It

October 4, 2021

Good morning. Tis wet.  It rained all through the night, and it still is.  Temps will stay in the upper fifties all day.  Mid fifties overnight.  We'll probably have this rain straight through tomorrow evening.

I'm watching for a package delivery.   I had to purchase a new television for the den in the house, and it is supposed to arrive today.  Once it gets here, we'll be able to see about hooking it up to the new antenna that I bought last week.

Little by little, some of my perky is coming back.  Last night, I actually did some reading.  I'm almost finished reading my new book "Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker."  Speaking of books, I got a check in the mail this morning from a book marketing service.  It's for an overpayment that I made for a book.  Now I'll have to do some research to find out what this is about.  I don't remember over paying for a book.

I found another cute "me" tee shirt online.  I wonder, how did they know?

Actually, I haven't been working on my crochet projects these past few days.  I've learned that it's not wise to crochet when I'm not feeling so good.  I usually would have to rip out everything that I did and start over.  It's so not worth it.  Maybe later today I'll get started back on it.

Want to see something cute?  Just look at these eyes.  Aren't they beautiful?  This is nutmeg, one of Deanne's cats.

And here's the whole face.

She's such a pretty kitty.  And she's so lovable!  Want a sweet kitty like this one?  Just visit your local animal shelter.  They have lots of beautiful cats and kittens.

Now I'm off to do some blog reading.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

I'm On The Mend

October 3, 2021

Good morning.  I think I must have caught a bit of a cold because I've been under he weather these past couple days.  I've been staying warm under my blankets and drinking fluids.  Today I was actually looking forward to breakfast.  That has to mean that I'm on the mend.

Something must be going around because Deanne has picked up a bit of a cold too.  With the temps changing so fast, I guess this is to be expected.  Tis the season for lots of chicken noodle soup.

This morning I'm watching ShopLC.com.  They are having a massive clearance, and oh my oh my!  Nope, I'm not buying, but I'm loving seeing all the beautiful gems from around the world.  One of my favorites, Baltic Amber, is being featured now.  It's an 18 inch necklace, and it is gorgeous!  Did you know that the tree resin has to be a million years old to be called Amber?

Here's a picture of Amber that I've borrowed from Google.

Pretty soon I'll have to change the channel because the deals are becoming so tempting.  Mmm Mmm Mmm.  I'm trying to be good.  And just look.  If I can just hang in there for another hour, Law & Order will be on.

I'd like to start wrapping some of the things that I have set aside for the holidays.  Maybe this week I can do some of this.  The U.S. Postal Service has already announced that this year's holiday mail will take much longer for delivery.  So that means that packages need to be mailed much earlier this year.

I guess this is because of Covid.  Most everything that is not working is blamed on Covid these days.  I don't understand.  Amazon ships packages every day and they are not slowing down because of Covid.  So why is it slowing down the U.S. Mail?

Have you all checked out whether or not the Vaccine booster shot is available in your area and whether or not you are eligible to get it?  Folks, if you are 65 or older, this is important.  Don't wait for your city or town to call you.  Call them!

Now I'm going to catch up with my blog reading.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.
