A Day For Memories

February 23, 2016

Good morning.  Today it's cloudy and currently 32F degrees.  Later today the temps will get up to around 44F.  Still not so bad for a winter day here in New England.  It's still too cold to keep the door open, so Pogo will have to wait a few more hours before we can open it.

Yesterday brought some sad news to my family.  My brother in law, Melvin, passed on yesterday afternoon.  He'd been battling Parkinson's Disease for a very long time, and more recently, cancer.   Mel was always such a strong, wonderful person.

I found an old photo (taken probably in 1940) of my hubby Michael at the beach with his younger brother Mel, his grandmother and his mother.  My Michael is that handsome little fellow with the gorgeous smile.

This is another old photo of my hubby Michael, his brother Mel, his sister Edie, his father and his mother.  My hubby is the handsome young fellow on the left.  (probably taken in the '50s)

This is a photo of my Michael and his brother Mel taken later in life as they relax on the porch at Mel's summer cottage.  Again, my hubby is on the left.

Both men were very active in the business world.  My hubby in advertising and marketing, and Mel was a lawyer.  They both loved sports.  My hubby played softball till his early 70's, and Mel played golf and tennis until the Parkinson's no longer allowed for it.  Guys, I love and miss you both dearly.

Later this afternoon, Pogo has an appointment with his doctor for his yearly check-up.  We will make sure all his shots are up to date, and get his new travel papers that say he is in good health.  His little shirts are already packed in the suitcase, so he is all set to travel.

I still have a lot of things to do before I can leave, but little by little I am making some progress.  By the time Sunday rolls around, I'll have probably forgotten to do a lot of things, but I'll live with that.  All the important things will be done.

Daughter Deanne will be stopping by after work today.  We have an errand to do, and I will cross one more thing off my "to do" list.  I'm starting a bit late today, and it is almost noon.  Time to see what's in the fridge for lunch.

Well, that's my news for this morning.  So, till tomorrow, hug someone you love.  Y'all have a beautiful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Hi Edna and Pogo,

It is so sad to hear of your brother in law's passing. Love the pictures that you posted as they are great memories and yes both men were very attractive. It is at least wonderful that you have photos, not that you need reminders of your loved ones, but so that you can look at and share.

Pogo is ready for some sunshine and beach weather so I am sure that he is anxious to get those travel papers in paw!

I have to go. I am on a mission to accomplish a few things.... will talk to you soon. Beth

Sorry for your loss. Your husband was very handsome and must have been quite the catch.
It sounds so funny to hear about Pogo's suitcase being packed up and ready to go. He's quite the little traveler.

Did your brother in law live near you? I know as we get older those nearest to us in age leave us. It was my biggest fear when my mother died that I wouldn't remeber what she looked like. Glad we have photos of our loved ones.

Sad news of the passing away of your brother in law. But in a way a relief also for him, having to cope woth those terrible diseases. I am sure he met your Michael now, and that they are happy to be together again.

Oaky, Pogo's suitcase is done, now you will have to finish yours and then you will be all set for your holiday!
Just a few more days and your are in a complete other world for a while. What a wonderful thought.
Take care and have a lovely day, greets to Deanne,
Hug
Kyra
