Good morning. Today is sunny and just a few degrees cooler than yesterday. It's what I call a perfect Spring day. I just went outside to open up the greenhouse. A few more degrees higher and Pogo and I can sit out on the porch for a while.
Yesterday, Joe and his family spent the day at the zoo, and he sent me some wonderful photos. I've never been to this zoo, so I really enjoyed the photos. Here are some of them.
Wow, so many wonderful animals, I would loved to have been there. Maybe one of these days. Some day trips are difficult for me because I can't leave Pogo alone that long, and I doubt if the park folks would let me bring him there with me.
It's been really quiet around here. There's not much happening. But that's a good thing. I'm at that age where quiet is quite comfortable. I was thinking that Pogo and I might go out for a while, but I'm thinking that we'll wait until tomorrow. The bank will be open then, and one of our errands is at the bank. Today I think maybe I'll just work on the afghans that I have going.
Just recently, while reading of Sean of the South's visit to a small country store, I was reminded of a time back when I was just eighteen and pregnant with my first child. I was living in a small country town, and things were quieter back then. In the tiny center, there was a little red building (no bigger than a one car garage). This was the General Store, the Fire Department and the Post Office.
We even had a fire truck. It was an old beat up pickup truck, with sand and buckets of water in the back. When it came by your house (as it came down the street) you brought buckets of water and sand, brooms and shovels and ran alongside the truck. When it arrived at the fire, everyone pitched in to put out the fire.
It was a small town and it had no traffic lights. There was only one telephone in a ten mile radius. I remember one day when I had a doctor appointment. My doctor was in another town, a few towns away. The chief of police picked me up and took me to the town line where another police car was waiting for us. I was transported town to town to my appointment, dropped off at my mother's for a short visit, and then taken back home the same way. My hubby was in the service and stationed away from home at the time.
Things are different nowadays, but I have my memories. It was a quieter time, an easier life. Once progress started coming up with new things, it never slowed down. I did my best to keep up with it, but eventually I had to turn to my children and my grandchildren to show me how to use some of the newfangled stuff that has come along.
Enough for memories. Today I have a new quick page for you. This one has some of the animals that Joe saw at the zoo yesterday. I hope you can have fun with it.

Now I'm going to get a fresh cup of coffee and watch Law & Order reruns on TV for a while. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.
Hugs, Edna B.

Oh my gosh, I love your story here. When we spent a few2 days at the Avanlanche Ranch in Redstone in th mountains we stopped by the general store/fire house/post office too. Funny to see those old stores but loving them so much.
You are a great storyteller
