A Wicked New Weed In My Little Kiln Garden

August 19, 2015

Good morning.  It's early, so there's some nice cool air coming in through the door.  Unfortunately, it will be up to 90 degrees again in just a few hours.  Hopefully, tonight will be a better night for sleeping.  Last night was sticky and uncomfortable.

Gosh, I just went outside to feed the birds and squirrels, and I stopped for a minute to pick out the dead pansies from the kiln.  There was a weed with a spikey edged leaf growing in with them so I pulled it out.  And right away, my wrist and fingers were itching wicked.

I rinsed them off with cold water and put some Benedryl cream on the itchy spots.  Already there are little welts popping up just like insect bites.  I have no idea what this weed is or where it came from, but I'll have to wear gloves the next time I encounter it.

There's not a lot happening around here, as it has been too hot and sticky for Pogo and me to go out.   I keep thinking that we might be able to go out early in the morning before it gets too hot, but first I need a few hours sleep during the night.  That's not always possible in this heat.  At least we get to open the door and enjoy the cool air that comes in early in the morning.

Last night I put a few more rows on the Lemon Yellow afghan.  It's a little more than half done now.  I did order some new yarn a few days ago, but it was before I ran out of the merlot yarn.  There are two new great grandbabies coming in a few months, so I had ordered the yarn to make a blanket for each of them.  This order should arrive the beginning of next week.

Today I have a texture freebie for you.  I made it from a photo that I had taken of the rain through a screen.  I tried it out on a couple of images, and I think it could be used for making a grunge background.  I hope you can use it.

DIL Janet is coming by later today after work, and I haven't a clue what I will make for our supper.  I'm thinking that maybe I'll try cooking up a pot of pasta and sauce on my new burner.  Stacey, do you know the name of that cookbook for induction cooking that HSN has?  I did have a look this morning, but I could not find it.

I'm hoping that the user manual from the manufacturer comes soon.  I am absolutely the greatest at burning food and cooking meat until it can be used as a weapon.  So a cooking guide will really be a big help.

I have another brain teaser picture puzzle for you.  This one has seven horses hidden in the image.  Have fun.

Well, I need to get busy here if I want to accomplish a few things before it gets too hot.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

That nasty weed may be a thistle. I've encountered them before with a similar reaction. I stay far away and spray it with weed killer.

I enjoy your brain teasers. I used to find books with lots in them, but cannot find it anymore. Take care.

Thanks ever so much Miss Edna for the gift of the texture! So glad you are able to work on the afghans again and that you are learning to use your new stove. Also, love the puzzles lately too! I've been so engrossed in "binge watching" my Roku that I haven't even turned on my computer in 3 days, so playing catch up! LOL! I so enjoy reading your daily blog, just wish I was more faithful to posting in mine! O well, guess I am just being lazy and doing what I want to lately! ( (: feels good :) too)
Hugs for you and Pogo and have a fantastic day! Mat
