My Goodness, What A Fabulous Day!

July 31, 2014

Good afternoon.  Well, I'm legal for another year.  Pogo and I got up early this morning and went to the dealership to get our new inspection sticker for the  car.  While we were there, I ordered a remote car starter for my car.  And to make it even nicer, the company will come out to my house and install the starter here so that I don't have to wait around for hours at the dealership.  How cool is that?

On the way home, we stopped at JoAnn's Fabric shop and bought us a bag full of new yarn.  I signed up for sale alerts on my "smart" phone and got an instant 20% off my purchase.  And, the nice saleslady put an "Ap" on my phone so that I can get more sale coupons right on my phone.  My goodness, the day just keeps getting better.

To celebrate our good day, we next went to Wendy's and bought us a couple of Wendy burgers to go and headed home to eat our delicious lunch.  Yup, yup, it's been a good day.

Yesterday, grandson Kevin was here again helping me with some cleaning and moving furniture.  What would I do without this wonderful young man?   Today I have a photo of him smiling.  He does not like to smile for the camera (I have no clue why), but in all fairness it's the best way to see how really handsome he is.

He's not only handsome, he's smart too.  We were chatting and I was amazed to learn how many college scholarships he has already earned.  His goal for this new school year (he'll be a senior) is to get straight A's.  Gosh, I am so proud of him.

I also have another super photo to share.  Deanne and Eddie decided to have a new family photo taken, and it is just wonderful.  For my friend Rhoda, remember little Bobby?  Well he's that handsome fella on the left.  When I wasn't looking, he got all grown up.  (34 now!)

I guess one of the perks of the "golden years" is that I get to brag all I want.  And of course, I do that every chance I get.  When I leave this earth, I will leave behind a large beautiful legacy.

Yesterday afternoon, DIL Janet had a co-worker drop her off here, and we had a wonderful visit.  She's walking a bit now with just one crutch, and hopefully will be able to drive in a few more days.

Okay, now that I've gnawed on your ear for a while, it's time to check out that bag full of new yarns.  Mmm mmm mmm, it's like getting a Christmas present!  Even if I did buy it myself!  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a magnificent day.

Some Folks' Stupidity Is Just Unbelievable

July 30, 2014

Good morning.  Oh my, just two days left in July.  Summer is fleeting by and I haven't really done much of anything.  Outside of the house, I mean.  I had so wanted to get out more, but it wasn't to be.  Ah well, maybe we'll get out more as the temps wind down and Fall sets in.

Have any of you been watching the news?  About the two women walking on the train trestle?  I wonder, couldn't they have thought of an easier way to get attention?  Do they realize they could have caused an accident, killing everyone on that train?  Or worse?

Some folks' stupidity just leaves me wondering if mankind is going in the right direction.  I do hope that both women end up in jail for a while for this stupid stunt.  Enough said!

Well, I called my friend from work to tell her that I was done with work, only to find that this was not a very good time to be leaving.  Her brother just passed away on Sunday.  Aside from her hubby and daughter, her brother was all the family she had left.

So, for my friend, I may wait another week before leaving work.  There are a couple of part timers there, and I am going to speak to one of them about picking up my remaining shifts until my friend can do it.  If that person can't, then I'll finish out one more week.

On the news now, they are talking about a restaurant in California that has a sign posted that says "No children, no crying babies, no high chairs or booster seats allowed in their restaurant.  Nothing that distracts or annoys the diners is allowed.  You are free to eat elsewhere."

So, what do you think?  Personally, I understand perfectly what they are saying, and I appreciate it.  There's nothing fun about trying to enjoy a relaxing meal when there is a kid whining or crying in the next booth.  I feel for the uncomfortable child, but I'm not going to enjoy my meal and most likely won't go back to that restaurant.  There are so many great restaurants where families can take their children, and I think it is good to have a few for just adults.

Yesterday, my grandson Kevin came by and spent a few hours helping me with lots of dusting and vacuuming.  He's my hero!!!   I can do these things, but they leave me breathless and take me forever to do, so this was such a huge help.

Guess what time it is!  Yup, it's sticker time for my car.  The sticker on my windshield runs out tomorrow.  Up till now, I completely forgot about it.  So, I called and made an appointment to take my car back to the dealer tomorrow morning for the safety inspection and new sticker.  Phew!  Just in the nick of time!

Before I take my leave, I do have one really fun photo to share.  This cute little critter came out of hiding to enjoy some of the bread that Joe had put out for the birds and other yard critters.  He's just a youngster, only a tad bigger than most of the squirrels here, and was way across the yard when I shot the photo from the kitchen window.

Now it's time for me to get dressed and go through a pile of magazines and papers.  I like to remove all places where my personal information is before putting them into the recycle bin.  Later, I'll sit down and do a whole bunch of shredding.  Fun, fun, fun.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

A Time For Thinking

July 29, 2014

Good morning.  The sun is shining, and the rain has passed us by.  Yesterday's storms missed us, but a tornado did touch down not far from here in Revere, which is east of Boston.  Here, we only got a little bit of light rain, and only for a few hours in the morning.

Well, yesterday, I got caught up on washing all the scatter rugs.  I'll wait till all the vacuuming is done before putting them down.  Maybe later today.  I'm going to have to put the AC back on because it is getting warm in here.  I'd leave it on low but once the air is cool my legs ache.  So then I shut it off for a while.  Hmmm, just can't seem to win this one.

I've been doing a bit of thinking lately, and I doubt I will wait till November to retire.  I'm thinking that now is probably a good time to do this.  In a way, this is unfortunate because I really do enjoy my job.  I just don't like the high stress level and the lack of support that we get from the "family".  Their response has been "you get paid to put up with her nastiness."

Sorry.  I don't believe that is true at all.  We are there to take care of her and make life easier for her.  But, the family should still be more involved and help make things a bit easier for the caretakers.  It's not going to happen though, and the stress is not good for my health.  Therefore, it's getting easier to make my decision about retirement.

I called out this past Sunday night, and believe me my stress level was way down.  Pogo's stress level was way down too.  On weekends, he sticks by my feet like we're glued together because he knows I will be leaving to go to work.  Sunday night, he slept peacefully like a baby.  God bless this little guy.

Today I have a few adorable images from the web to share.  The first two remind me of Pogo, and the last one is just the cutest kitty.

Now it's time to get dressed.  I need to put the mail out before the mail lady gets here.  Gotta get those bills paid!   Actually, I'm very thankful that I'm here and able to pay those bills!!!

On this happy note, I shall take my leave.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a magnificent day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Wow! 116 And Still Looking Good!

July 28, 2014

Good morning.  Goodie goodie!  It's gray and wet outside my door.  There's even a little breeze coming in.  Oops, I spoke a bit soon.  On TV, they are giving us a "severe thunderstorm warning".  The temps today should be around 79 - 80 degrees with rain.  Well, right now it is quite nice.

So, how did it go at work last night?  It didn't.  I called out.  Yesterday my heart did not seem to be beating right and I felt it was best not to go in to work.  I think it was mostly all due to the humidity and the anticipation of a bad night.  At my age, I'm not taking any chances with my health.

I spent most of yesterday resting. About the only thing I accomplished was a load of laundry and a few rows on  the new crochet project.  Now I'm looking at my calendar, and I need to spend some time finishing up the navy blue afghan if I want to get if finished this month.

Can you believe it?  July is almost over!!  Just three more days left in this month.  It's time to make a list of the stash in my "gift drawer" and see what I still need to get my holiday shopping done.  Most of my stuff has to be in the mail by the first of December, so finishing up early is a must.

Folks, I have to share this wonderful article that was in the news this past week.  Meet Bernice Madigan.  She's the oldest person in Massachusetts, and has just celebrated her 115th birthday.  WOW!  (information from iBerkshires.com)

She is the fifth oldest person in the world.  Bernice was born on July 24, 1899 in West Springfield, MA.  William McKinley was president of the 45 states of America at that time.  She graduated Adams High School in 1918, and worked as a secretary for the Veteran's Administration and Treasury Department in Washington, D.C. before returning to Massachusetts with her husband, Paul.

The couple was married for 50 years when he died in 1976.  Bernice credits her longevity to not having any children.  The world's oldest living person is a woman in Japan, who is 116 years old.  Let's all join in and wish Bernice a super Happy Birthday!!

Well, that tops any news I might have, so I think I'll go to the kitchen and make a cup of coffee.  I need to wash a few scatter rugs, so now is a good time to do that too.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Let's Play Ball!

July 27, 2014

Good morning.  Tis a bit cloudy at the moment, but that could change soon.  We are expecting some rain along the way today and tonight.  The temperature today is supposed to be around 78 to 80, which is pretty nice for summer.

It's also grandson Stephen's birthday today.  Pogo and I are wishing you a fabulous day Stevie.  We love you.  Happy Birthday!!

Yesterday, Pogo and I slept in a bit in the morning before getting ready for a big day out.  We were going to pick up Kevin and take him to his baseball game a little after noontime.  And we did, and we got us a whole lot of fun photos.

Today I'm going to have fun with the photos.  From where I was sitting, I did not have a good view of the home plate, but I had a fabulous view of the rest of the playing field.  So, here's our fabulous Kevin making his way around the bases.

Trying to steal second base from first base

Oops!  Still safe!

On the way to second base

Safe!

Making a dash for third base

Safe!

Crossing home plate. Way to go Kevin!!

And of course, this is our handsome Kevin doing his best not to smile.  Eventually though, he couldn't hold out and gave us a wicked nice grin.

This morning, I'm doing the laundry that I should have been doing these last couple of days.  Got to have clean clothes to wear to work tonight.  Ugh, there's that bad word again, w-o-r-k!  Tonight is a work night, and I'm not looking forward to it.

I just know the Mrs will not be in a very nice mood tonight.  All those ideas I gave to her son last week, and still no one has gone by to take her out anywhere.  I did a search on Google to find out what is available at the Senior Center in her town, but there is very little information on-line.  It lists a lot of things for active adults, but nothing for the less active elderly.  Maybe it takes phone calls to see what is available.

Anyway, since I started typing this post, the sun has come and there is a nice little breeze.  It's time for me to get dressed and get started on this beautiful new day.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a magnificent day.

Hugs, Edna B.

What A Gorgeous Morning!!

July 25, 2014

Good morning everybody.  It's such a beautiful morning outside.  In a few minutes, I'll open the door and let some of the cool air in.  Hmmm, you know, life is short so I'll just go open the door now.

I'm back, and that cool air feels wonderful.  I also took a moment to text my daughter Audrey in Virginia to make sure all is well in her area.  A wicked nasty tornado tore through a campground near where she lives, killing one couple and seriously injuring one of their children.

Yesterday, Pogo and I went to visit with DIL Janet, and brought her lunch.  One of her kitties was not so thrilled about seeing Pogo, so we had to put that kitty outside till it was time for Pogo and I to leave.  Sorry pussycat!

Later in the afternoon, I took Joe food shopping, and then it was time to start supper.  Hmmm, somehow I never got around to doing the laundry.  Oh well.

Last night, I worked for a while on a new crochet project.  No, the last two afghans are not finished, but I'm getting there.  I just needed a break for a while with a new project.  It's a little blanket with a variation of the afghan pattern that I've been using and only one strand of yarn.  Gosh, it feels so light compared to the afghans.

Today, I have some photos from our veggie garden to share.  So far, we have tomatoes and yellow summer squash growing.  Also notice the little white flower on the green pepper plant?  Yum, I love green peppers.

There's not much more news for this morning.  I need to do a few little things around here and then get ready for my morning appointment at the nail salon.  I do like pretty nails.  Makes me feel pretty.  Enough babble.  Till Sunday, Y'all have a fabulous weekend.

Hugs, Edna B.

Happy Belated Gorgeous Grandma Day!!

July 24, 2014

Good morning. The cooler air this morning feels oh so good.  It is supposed to stay in the 70's all day and drop down to around 69 tonight.  My kind of weather!

Did you know that yesterday was Gorgeous Grandma Day?  My daughter Deanne heard it on the radio, and emailed me a happy greeting.  So for all us beautiful grannies, I'm wishing us all a Happy Belated Gorgeous Grandma Day!!

I guess getting a head start on cooking supper isn't always a good thing.  Not only did I cook it a day early this week, but as I prepared for my visit with daughter in law yesterday I got a phone call.  Janet would not be coming this day either.  She fell and sprained her ankle, and had to go to the hospital, and then hone to bed for a couple of days.

So, in a little while, Pogo and I will take a ride over to Janet's house to make sure she is okay, and have us a nice little visit.  And for sure, we'll be bringing her a nice big bowl of last night's supper!!

I have a couple of birdie photos taken from our kitchen window last evening.  We have a whole new crop of babies learning how to fly and feed themselves, and it is just wonderful watching them.

Well, that's it for this morning.  I have a couple of things to do before Pogo and I head out.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Today Is Going To Be Another Steamer!

July 23, 2014

Good morning.  It's early, but Pogo insisted I get up so that he could eat his breakfast.  So the good mama got up and got him some breakfast, which of course he only had one little bite and decided to go back to bed.  (Yup, it was dog food!  How dare I!!!)

I would love to hop back in for a few more winks, but first I want to get a few little things done before the heat sets in later this morning.  At the moment, it is 69 F degrees, but it is going up to 90 F degrees later this morning.

Tomorrow, though, is supposed to be just fabulous at 71 F degrees.  I guess we can thank a cold front for coming through and bringing us the cooler temps, even if only for one day.  Anything strenuous I may have planned for today can wait until tomorrow.

I have some photos of some of the ducks (and ducklings) at our park.  There were lots of new little ducks there including a few fuzzy babies.

There was one duck there that I thought was just ever so cute.  It would come closer to us (wanting some of the bread that we were tossing out) and turn it's head sideways as if to say "Could I have some, please?"

And while everyone was having fun tossing the bread out for all the ducks and geese, Pogo was having himself a grand time watching all the antics.

Do I ever let him out to walk around?  Yes, I do, but not when I am trying to take photos.  He is very quick, and it is difficult to keep one eye on him while trying to look through the camera.  I would take his play yard tent with us, but there is just sooooo much goose poop everywhere.

Tomorrow I'll have more photos for you.  Today I'll share a funny story with you.  Well, some think it's funny.  For me, yesterday, it was not so funny.  Remember I posted yesterday that I was cooking supper early so that I would have more time to sit and enjoy my visit with my daughter in law?

Well, I did cook it.  And about two hours later I found out that it was only Tuesday, not Wednesday.  Janet comes over on Wednesdays.   I think by not working this past Sunday, my brains got a bit scrambled and I got somewhat confused about what day it was.  Well, all is not lost.  Once the food was cooled, I put it in the refrigerator and we'll have it tonight.

Anyway, I've been rambling on enough.  Now I think I'll take my coffee and watch the Weather Channel for a while.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

I'm Running A Wee Bit Late Today

July 22, 2014

Good afternoon.  Wow, did I sleep last night into this morning.  Well, except for the few hours I was awake during the night.  I settled in to watch  bit of TV a little before 8 p.m. last night, and awoke around midnight.  After that, I got a cold bottle of water and settled in to watch some TV and crochet for a few hours.

Around 5 a.m. my little eyes closed and only woke at  8 a.m to feed Pogo, then not again till noon.  I think all the fresh air and tootling around yesterday plum wore me out.  But I must say, it was well worth it.

Around noon, Pogo and I did an errand, then went to the park to meet up with Deanne and all the kids.  We had a wonderful time there, feeding the ducks and geese.  Of course, I got me some new photos too.  When we left the park, we all went to Dairy Queen for some delicious ice cream.  Yum!

Once we got home, I took a few photos of the gardens, and then sat down to check some emails.  The phone rang, and it was a friend that I haven't seen in a couple of years.  She had recently celebrated her 78th birthday, and was thinking how nice that some of us were still here.

Pogo and I popped back into the car and headed off to her house.  And she was definitely right.  It is nice to see that some of our circle are still here.  We had a super nice visit, and after about an hour an a half, Pogo and I made our way back home.

Once I have a chance to go through the new photos and crop a few, I'll be able to share them here.  For now, I do have a photo that a friend sent that I thought would be nice to share with you.  The photo was taken by daughter Audrey's friend, Wanda.  Just recently, this is what Wanda found in her yard one morning when she came out of her house.

Isn't this little one just darling?  I just hope his mommy remembered where she'd left him.  Or maybe he just wandered off.  Either way, I hope he was reunited with his family.  Wanda, thank you so much for sharing your photo.

Speaking of deer, the news lately has made me so mad!  Our Legislature is putting together a bill to make it legal to kill off some of our deer population.  They say that there are just too many deer, and they are becoming a real nuisance to the people who live in some towns and cities.

I am outraged because I believe we should get rid of some of the population that is crowding in and taking over the little bits of land that are set aside for the deer to live on.  I will stop here, because this can put me on a real rant, and it is too hot to start my ranting.  Maybe I'll save it for another day.

I do have a nice tip for you today.  This idea is for when you run out of places to garden, and you still want to plant more.  It is called a SHOE ORGANIZER HER GARDEN.  For materials you will need (a) cloth shoe organizer,  (b)potting soil or compost,  (c) rod, hooks or nails for hanging, and (d) herbs or plants of your choice.

Step 1 - Check the  drainage of the pouches by pouring in some water.  If there is not sufficient drainage in the fabric, poke a few small holes in the bottom of each pouch.

Step 2 - Fill the pouches with soil or compost, but leave about an inch between the top of the pouch and the soil.  Add the herbs, plants or seeds.  Now just watch them grow.

Step 3 - Optional - Make little name tags to attach to the front of the pouches with the name of the plant.

Here are a couple of photos to show you what this will look like when it is finished.

I do not have a shoe organizer, but I think I will buy one so that I can try this out.  The dwarfs do a lot of cooking, and this would be perfect for them.

Well, now it's time for me to get busy here and start some supper for tonight.  I like to get it out of the way early so that I can sit back and enjoy my visit with my daughter in law.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a most wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

A Magnificent Monday

July 21, 2014

Good morning.  Today is looking to be another fabulous day to be outdoors.  Yesterday, our plans got changed because little bits of life got in the way, and then by noon my body was calling for some desperately needed sleep.  And sleep I did.

Today, God willing and the creek don't rise, Pogo and I are planning to meet up with Deanne and the kids at the park to feed the ducks and geese.  I've charged up my camera batteries for both cameras, and I'm hoping to get some super photos.  Well, at least that's the plan for now.

I've mentioned before about the different bird families that we enjoy watching in our yard.  Yesterday, I got a few photos from the kitchen window of a proud Papa Cardinal feeding his young.  The Papa caught sight of me in the window, and wasn't too thrilled.

I just had to take a photo of the young female because she was so darn cute just standing there looking all around.

It's taking me quite a while to type this post because Pogo is climbing all over me, wanting to play.  I keep stopping to play with him because he gets quite pushy if I don't.   For now, he has decided to watch the TV for a few minutes while I finish up here.

So, on that note, I'll take my leave.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

I'm Cutting Back My Work Hours

July 20, 2014

Good morning.  Well, I did it!!  I cut back my work hours again starting today.  Now I'm going to be working just one night a week until I leave altogether.  And that time just might be coming up really soon.

Last night the Mrs was really wicked.  It got so bad that I had to call her family to tell them that either they come and talk to her or come and stay with her so I could leave.  They chose to come and talk to her.

I had a chat with her son about how taking her out a couple times a week just might make her a little bit nicer to us.  She always complains about feeling like a prisoner, never doing anything or going anywhere.  She just sits and watches TV, eats and sleeps.  She has three adult children who could probably take turns taking her out once in a while for an hour or so.

We even discussed the possibility of a day or two at a senior day care center each week to give the Mrs some new surroundings and things to do.  There's also the senior center, where she could go once or twice a week for an hour or two to mingle with other people.  Hopefully, her family will seriously consider some of these ideas.

On a positive note, we have lots of new bird families, and it's such fun watching the young birds learning from their parents.  Here are some photos of one of the young blue jays.  Isn't he just the cutest little kid?

Deanne is babysitting two of my great grandchildren this weekend, and we're planning to go out for breakfast this morning once the little ones are awake and dressed.  I'm really looking forward to spending some time with the kids.

There was a bit of sunshine in the sky this morning on my way home from work, but now it's mostly cloudy.  Hmmm, maybe we'll get a few sprinkles?  That would be nice because our town has been having a problem with the town water source and has asked all the residents to please conserve as much water as possible all weekend.  A few sprinkles would feel ever so good to the lawns and gardens.

That's about all the news for this morning.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Photoshop Friday Is Back

July 18, 2014

Good morning.  The news on TV is not so good.  This is the second tragedy for the Malaysian  Airline.  The airplane that disappeared over the ocean not too long ago was also theirs.  Folks, what is happening to this world of ours?  Is mankind really in such a hurry to destroy all of it?

I try not to dwell on the sadness in the world.  I don't understand the reasoning for all of it, and I don't know how to heal it.  I sometimes wonder how things would work out if the folks who make the rules and decide how to fix the world would leave the decisions to all of us little people.  If we got rid of all the leaders and law makers, could we do a better job ourselves?   Hmmmm, food for thought.

On a brighter note, the Queen Jester is bringing back the Photoshop Friday fun, and has given us this photo of Gracie to work with.

I admit, I found this one a bit difficult, so I decided to just change the background and give Gracie a few friends to sunbathe with in a nice garden that I found on the web.

I think I'm going to have to spend a lot more time on the computer to sharpen my "digi" skills.  Most of my time this year has been spent on yarn crafts (crocheting).  With some of my favorite forums shutting down, I've been quietly moving away from my digital projects.  I miss them.

So thank you to the Queen Jester for bringing back Photoshop Friday.  This will help to get me back into the creative digital world.  Anyone else wanting to have some creative digital fun, do join us.

Tomorrow it's back to work for this gal, so I think doing some laundry is in order for today.  It's going to seem a bit strange going back to work.  I've really enjoyed not having the stress.  Here's hoping that the Mrs has missed me.  hahaha.

Well that's about all the news for today.  Now I must go out and check the mail.  So, till Sunday, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Just A Short Hello

July 17, 2014

Good afternoon.  Today's post will be very short.  I slept in as late as possible this morning, but then it was time to get ready for a follow up appointment with my orthopedic doctor.   All is as well as can be, and I'll go back in three months for another follow up visit.

I do have a photo of the last two afghans to share.  I think maybe I'll work on the navy blue one for a while until it's time to go food shopping later this afternoon.

There's not much other news for today, so I'll take my leave.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.

Flash Flood Warning For Today

July 16, 2014

Good morning.  Ahhhh, today will stay in the blessed 70's.  Oh it will feel so good!  We do still have a flash flood watch until mid afternoon today, although we're not getting much rain.  (so far!)  If you go outside, you can count the rain drops that fell on my car overnight.  It's a shame too, because we really needed some rain.

Yesterday was one of those days that I just don't seem to remember much about.  I wasn't feeling all that great and just laid low all day.  Late in the day, after his supper, Joe went with me to the store to stock up on more bird food.  We ran out a couple of days ago so we put out thistle.  However, there were no finches and the other birds did not like the thistle.

I did give Pogo a bath with olive oil shampoo yesterday, and it seemed to help with the itch.  Plus, it left his hair so soft and shiny.  My goodness!  He just keeps getting more and more handsome!

Last night, I crocheted for a while, and finished up the red, white and blue afghan.  Phew!!  It's not an easy task when the air is hot and sticky.  But it's finished and I feel good about it.  Just two more to finish up in the next six weeks; the navy blue one and the lavender one.

I have interesting photo to share with you today.  I took both my cameras with me to Plymouth Harbor the other day, but I only used the smaller camera (PowerShot SX50).  There were rock jetties that went way out into the water, but I did not go out there.

The folks way out on the jetty looked very small, and beyond them were tiny bumps on  the horizon that I could not recognize.  So I took some photos.  The wind was being rather feisty and blowing up a storm, so it wasn't easy to hold the camera still.  However, I thought the photos were quite awesome.  They look like water colors.

This first photo is the original, just cropped.  Then I cropped it more so that you could see the details better.  Folks, I didn't know that man was fishing on the jetty.  And that house is so far away that it was only a tiny blob in the far off distance.  (click on photos to enlarge)

I think the waviness was caused by two things;  the wind and the heat.  This little camera continues to amaze me.  Now if only I could master motion and macro with it!

Well, the TV keeps beeping warning alerts, and the gray outside is getting grayer, so maybe some of that rain is on it's way here.  I'd better go take my shower and wash my hair before any lightning starts.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Our Boys Didn't Win, But We're Very Proud Of Them

July 15, 2014

Good morning.  It's a bit cloudy this morning, and today's high temperature will be around 81.  Tomorrow should be more of the same.  Both days, we are expecting scattered thunder storms; and at the moment, the Weather Channel is posting flash flood alerts for our area through tomorrow afternoon.

Yesterday was a day of rest.  I did, however, clean up another large pile of paper goods, filling up one bag with recycles and another smaller bag with shredables.  When the shredable bag gets a little bigger, I'll sit down and shred everything in it.

Last night Kevin's baseball game was in Oxford, quite a distance from here.  They needed to win this game and the next to win the state championship.  Mother Nature was not cooperating and it started raining way before Dee, Eddie and Kevin got to Oxford.  However, unless there was thunder and lightning, the game would be played.

And play, they did.  Around the fourth inning, our boys were down by eight runs but then they made quite a comeback and tied the game up.  This game started between 7 and 7:30 p.m. and did not finish until after midnight.  The teams played in extra innings until finally our team lost 12 to 11.  Guys, you did a fantastic job this year.  Kevin, I'm so very proud of you.

I have a couple more photos of boats from our trip to Plymouth Harbor.  The first photo is the CAPT. JOHN & SON tourist boat, and the second photo is an adorable little boat that reminds me of a little wind-up toy boat from yesteryear.

This morning, I'm going to give Pogo a bath with an olive oil shampoo.  He's been itchy all over since his grooming, and I'm hoping that the shampoo will get rid of the itch.  First, I'll shut off the A/C so that Pogo doesn't catch a cold.  After that, I think I'll call and make him an appointment for his yearly checkup and any shots that are due.

Well, that's all the news for today.  It's time to make my morning coffee and do a bit of blog reading.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

A Refreshing Trip To The Ocean

July 14, 2014

Good morning.  The sun is shining and the sky is a beautiful blue.  It's looking to be another great day here in my little part of New England.  Yesterday was a bit warm, but it was a good day to go to the ocean.  And we did.  Pogo and Miss Helen and I went to Plymouth Harbor.

Oh my, the sea breezes felt soooo good.  The only down side was that there were so many people and boats that there were hardly any birds to be found.  We tried to park closer to the Mayflower so that Pogo could run around on the grass, but it was crowded and there were no parking spots.

So, we parked behind a restaurant along the Harbor, and walked around until my legs gave out.  Every now and then we found a bench to sit on for a while to give my old legs a break.  It really felt good to breathe in the ocean air and listen to the different harbor sounds.

There were so many different types of boats in the water.  Here are two that I found most interesting.  One is a Paddleboat (steamboat), the Pilgrim Belle, and the other is a water taxi.

I will have more photos of the boats to share as soon as I get them cropped.  Because today is Mandarin Orange Monday, I played a bit in Photoshop with a couple of the  photos.  Sorry, I did not write down the different textures and filters that I used.

It was a long day, and after supper last night, Pogo and I turned in early to watch a bit of TV.  I did put the last few rows on the turquoise afghan, so that is finished.  Woo Hoo!

An update on Kevin's games --- His team lost the game on Friday (their first loss all season), and won their game yesterday.  So they are still in the running for State Championship.  Go Team!!!!!!!!!

Now I think I'll have me another cup of coffee and decide what mischief we can get into today.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a magnificent day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Friday Night's Moon Was Simply Magnificent!

July 13, 2014,

Good morning.  Well, Pogo and I haven't really done very much these past two days, but somehow we were busy most of the time.  Friday, Pogo went to a new groomer,  and he's looking quite spiffy now.

Later in the day, we went to watch Kevin's baseball game.  This is my handsome little guy with his new "do".   A group of kids playing nearby has caught his attention.

Friday night, just as we got home from the game, I caught a glimpse of the moon.  It was big and round, and just glorious.  So I turned the car around in my driveway and went down the street a bit to get a better view of this magnificent moon.  It was worth it!!

Yesterday, we made it out to the Post Office to mail off some boxes of new clothes to Laura Jean.  We did not make it to the ocean all week, and I thought we might go after leaving the Post Office, but for some reason I was feeling a bit weezy.  So, we went home and had us a nice restful day.

In the afternoon, I took a few photos of some of the flowers in the garden.  Sad to say, things aren't growing as well this year, but still there are quite a few beautiful blooms.

Last night I put a few more rows on the turquoise afghan.  Just nine more rows to go till it is finished.  The afghans don't seem to work up as quickly in the hot weather.  The crochet hook sticks to my fingers and the yarn feels heavy.  But, I persist and little by little I am getting all my projects done.

Today we are definitely going for a ride somewhere.  Hopefully to the ocean, but at least to somewhere.  I got up at five o'clock this morning and made our breakfast early.  Pogo doesn't seem to be overly excited about his breakfast.  Of course not.  It's dog food.

Well, that's my news for this morning.  Now I'm going to enjoy my cup of coffee and catch up on some blog reading.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.
