Me And The Wonders Of Technology

August 6, 2012

Good morning.  A couple of hours ago, it looked as though we might be having sprinkles today, but then the sun came out and it looks to be a nice day.  At the moment, the temperature is comfortable outdoors (almost 80F) , but I assume that will change in another hour or so.  It's supposed to be quite hot all week until Friday.

I love new technology.  It just does not usually like me.  Many years ago, I got my first brand new car.  It was such a wonderful feeling driving it home and parking it in my driveway.  Well, that's as far as the good feeling lasted.  Once I got into my driveway, I could not get the car to shut off.  I jiggled, and poked, and turned whatever I could find on the dashboard and the side of the steering wheel.  This  baby just would not shut off.

Finally, after an hour of getting nowhere, I had to call for help.  When Michael showed up, he just reached in and did something and VOILA!  The engine shut off!  Now why wouldn't it do that for me?  I was reminded of all this Friday night when Pogo and I left to go for a ride.

As soon as I got out into the street headed towards downtown, the hazard lights started flashing.  Try as I might, I just could not  find a way to shut them off.  I pulled over to the side of the road and shut off the engine.  (Why?  I really don't know.)  After poking everything possible, I finally had to call Eddie and ask for help.

The answer was so simple!  I don't know about other cars, but the newer Hyundais have a HUGE red triangle smack in the middle of the dashboard.  It turns the hazard lights on and off.  DUH!!!  Some days I just should not leave home.  (Did I mention that Eddie and Dee Dee had quite a good laugh over this one?  It's not nice to laugh at Mom!)

I saw part of an ad on TV a few days ago about a new "smart" program.  It's supposed to make your brain and memory function a lot better.  It's sort of like playing "Concentration" where you match things and associate color with things, etc.  The sort of game children play.  Oh yes,  I will definitely have to look into this.

I know you're expecting the first two parts to the new August collab kit, but Su and I are just not ready.  So much has been happening in both our lives that we are a little behind.  Not to fear, we will start posting next Monday.  However, for being patient with us, I do have a freebie for you this morning.  How about a new texture?  I did this one three different ways and put them all in the folder.  I hope you can use it.

Here's your download link:

I also have a photo to share.  This is one of the pigeons from the park.  He was just so willing to pose that I couldn't resist taking his picture.  I know these are messy birds, but gosh, they are beautiful.

Pogo looked glad to see me this morning when I got home from work.  I'll have to wait till Joe gets home this afternoon to find out how Pogo did overnight.  This was his first overnight with the sitter.  The poor little guy has had to deal with so much in such a short time, but he seems to be doing okay.

Now I think I shall make myself a cup of coffee and maybe a bit of breakfast.  Then maybe I will start on one of the many projects waiting to be done.  There's always something to do here to keep busy.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Good morning. I can understand your battles with technology. I seem to do fine on "automatic" and if I think about it too hard I can't fathom how to do something. Good thing I don't think too often!

Puzzles, concentration, things like that, are so great for keeping you mentally sharp! My Grandma was addicted to word search puzzles, had books everywhere. I still have one of her books in my car, the one I inherited from her. She stayed mentally sharp. I know I kept myself afloat with different puzzles when the brain fog started from the MS before I was diagnosed and started treatment. (which did fix the cognitive trouble, thank God!) I make a point of doing a puzzle or bran-intense game on the computer every day. It really does help!

I'm glad Pogo is seeming to do okay with his sitter, but he loves his Mommy!!

Thank you for the texture. I think I’m going to try that on on a layout I have planned for this week. :)

Hugs, Nani

You make me laugh, not only because you are funny, but, boy can I relate. Let me know what the new program for the brain is ... I am thinking I could use a little of that myself.

Glad you put Pogo on MOM ... the rest of the world should see how cute he is. You could put the picture on your blog with the MOM logo so when people come over to see it, they will be able to find it ... just sayin'. Have a restful day with your little boy ...

You certainly gave me a good laugh with the stories about you handling techy stuff LOL!
Oh, I can imagine how it is, I seem to have sometimes the same issue.
I often wonder how it is possible, I do understand and handle quite well the more compicated things and something that is really easy, I just don;t.
Let's see if I can get some things done here today, Jan is at work so normally it's the good time for it.
Have a wonderful day
