You Should Only Eat Chocolate In The Daylight

Good morning.  The sun is shining and the temperature is 42F degrees.  By noontime, temps should be in the low 50's.  A pretty day for outside work (on the house).  According to the Weather Channel, next Sunday and Monday should be around 70F degrees.  Yes!!

Speaking of the Weather Channel, they are showing a video of a woman in Michigan who is playing golf outdoors in the snow.  I can't fathom how she can find her balls once she hits them.  It doesn't seem to bother her because she is having a grand old time.

Last night, I dozed off really early after supper, so later I had a hard time falling asleep.  I sort of slept in little batches until around 4 a.m.  Then I finally feel asleep for a few hours.  I did my best to sleep as late as possible, but there's a chance SIL Eddie and a friend will be here soon to work on the outside electrical.  Some of the work has to be done inside, so I guess I'll have a bit of clean up to do. 

Today I have to re-wash one of my blankets.  I was eating Junior Mints last evening, and evidently dropped one on the blanket.  (while watching TV in the dark)  It got hidden in the folds, and I did not find it until after it had melted all over the blanket.  I guess maybe I should not be eating chocolate when the lights are out.

Today I have a few more of the birdie photos that I took during the last snowfall.  These show a female Cardinal seeking shelter inside my hedge, a dark eyed Junco resting in the rose bush, and a Woodpecker braving the snow to have his lunch.

I guess I really should get busy here and do a few chores before Eddie shows up.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a really wonderful day.

R.I.P. Little Dust Bunnies

Good morning.  It's warm out, but it is gray and wet.  The rain is starting and should last until later this afternoon.  The rest of the week, however, should be looking pretty good.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Well, yesterday turned out to be quite an interesting day.  SIL Eddie came by so that we could discuss the electrical work that needs to be done before the deck and porch can be built.  It seems that the biggest problem will be the wiring that goes to the shed.  It all has to be done over.  That means a new trench has to be dug, along with all new wiring and covers.  Oh my.

Today Eddie will go shopping to get all the materials needed, and hopefully tomorrow he can get it all fixed new.  This whole porch business is turning into a wicked big project. 

My dust bunnies are in mourning today at the loss of so many of their friends and family.  Sometime around midnight last night Pogo decided he wanted to have his supper.  (He was not in the mood to eat it earlier.)  While he was eating, I thought maybe I should use this time to do a bit of dusting. 

I proceeded to start on the TV console.  While attempting to spray some polish, I broke the whole spray top off the bottle.  Hmmm, I'll have to find a small spray bottle to transfer the polish to.  By the time I was finished with the console, Pogo had finished eating his meal.  It was now time for us to go to bed.

Now that there is room in the recycle barrels, I think I'll go through another stack or two of catalogues and magazines.  I had to stop working on them last week because the recycle barrels were full.  I may wipe out another batch of dust bunnies too. 

A few days ago, I treated myself to something special.  I ordered a pretty flower ring from Choxi.com.  It is sterling silver and the stones are Spessartite (orange garnets) with teeny tiny diamond chips in the centers of the flowers.  The orange is my favorite color and the garnets are for my daughter Kerri.  Isn't this pretty?

A Trip To The Pantry Saved My Dust Bunnies From A Horrible Demise

Good morning.  The sun is shining and the wind is blowing.  The weather forecast for this week has changed quite a bit.  Today, and the rest of the week will be in the 50's, even topping 60 degrees by next Sunday.  Do I dare hope that Spring has come back?

Well, yesterday I really did mean to do a bit of dusting to evict a few of my dust bunnies.  However, when I got to the pantry to get my dust cloth, I realized that it was time to empty Pogo's "pee pad basket" into the big trash bag.  Being Sunday, all the trash would be put out in the evening.  So I emptied the basket and put in a new liner bag.

Next I took the large bag of trash out of my kitchen barrel, and put the bag of pee pads into it.  This meant that I would have to put a new bag into my barrel.  Done.  The big bad was not full yet, so then I emptied all my little trash buckets into it. 

When I pulled out my kitchen trash barrel, I thought "why don't I just sweep behind it first."  So I swept the whole kitchen floor.  Of course, this was a good time to get out the mop and wash it all down.  Not quite what I had in mind, but I did it.  By the time I put all the trash outside and put my little kitchen back together, I was pooped!!  Maybe I'll chase a few dust bunnies today.

Earlier in the morning, I had made a couple of calls to contractors to get estimates for building a small deck and screened in porch.  One of them came out in the afternoon, and oh my!!  Be still my heart!!  The fact that I wanted it screened in with a real roof over it made a huge difference in the price.

Wow!  I was not quite prepared to be spending such a huge sum for this little porch.  However, after thinking it over, it is what I want.  My hubby always told me that I was worth the expense of getting what I want.  This little porch will bring so much joy to me and Pogo, so I guess it is worth the expense. 

Today, I will talk it over with my SIL Eddie.  There is some electrical work involved, and I will want him to do this.  Plus I know he wanted to build my little porch for me.  It is really a big job, involving building codes and licenses so I'd rather have a contractor do it.  Then it will be all finished in just a few days too.

So, that was the highlight of my day yesterday.  Today I will be planting a few flowers in little pots.  This was a Christmas present, and I've been waiting for the right time to do this. 

These are anemones, and as you can see, I've painted the ends of some tie wraps to keep with the little pots so I remember what color is in each pot.  I soaked the bulbs overnight, and this morning I will soak the potting soil and plant the bulbs.  Then I will put a colored tie wrap in each appropriate pot.   I have bulbs for outdoors, but they will have to wait a bit longer to be planted.

The Christmas before last, dwarf Helen had brought home a beautiful red poinsettia plant.  After all the beautiful red petals were gone by, we still kept tending to the plant.  And this Spring it is giving us a beautiful surprise.  It is re-blooming.  The plant has thickened up nicely, and there is another tiny flower bud forming.  Goodness, what a really nice surprise.

This morning I slept quite late and it is very close to noon time.  I guess I should take my leave here and see about making some lunch for Pogo.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a gorgeous day.

A Busy And Fun Day

Good morning.  The sun is shining, but it is still a bit on the cool side.  Only 33F degrees, and hopefully warming up to the high 40's later today. 

Well yesterday was a busy day for me.  First I did some laundry, then I was looking through a new gardening catalogue.  Oh my, such goodies!!!  I found a few things that I just might have to order for our gardens.  The plant cage/stakes are at the top of my list.  This will help keep the tomatoes and cucumbers from bending down to the ground.

Next I had a lot of fun going through the new "Wild Bird Care" catalogue from Doctors Foster and Smith.  I will definitely be ordering a few new things from this catalogue.  They have the weather domes that I want for the birdie treat holders.  They also have the squirrel chair that I want.  I think this is just adorable.

While we were visiting with Aunt Lucy the other day, she was showing us a few of her favorite things.  One was an owl that had belonged to her oldest son, Fred Jr.  A friend of his had made it from a piece of a tree.  I think most of it hand-carved.  It's just gorgeous!

On the way home that afternoon, I just had to snap a photo of Pogo who was sitting in his car seat taking in all the sights.

I'm watching the Weather Channel, and oh my gosh, it is depressing.  We have a couple of warmer days coming our way along with four or five days of rain.  By the time Spring finally settles in our area, it will be summer and too hot to go outside and play in the dirt.  Go figure!

I spent a little while on-line yesterday looking for small deck and porch plans.  Next, I'm going to try to get a couple of estimates from local contractors.  I also want to see if I can find a small deck surround (sort of like a screened in area).  If I can find one I like, we can build the little deck to fit it.

So, you can see I have some ambitious plans for this year.  It will be interesting to see how much I can actually accomplish.  The fun is in the trying.

Today Is National Beer Day

Good morning.  The sun is shining and the wind is blowing.  But the temps seem to be trying to warm up a bit.  My little plants are all looking pretty good.  Sad to say, I miss all the pretty daffodil blooms that were once smiling up at us from the garden.  Soon though, the hyacinth will be in full bloom. 

According to Facebook and Google, today is National Beer Day. (and yesterday was New Beers Eve)   So just in case, have yourself a cool one and make mine a Sam Adams please. 

Yesterday it rained all day so Joe and I decided to put off the grocery shopping until later today.  Other than putting out lots of stuff in the recycle bins, the shopping will be the highlight of the day for me.  For some reason, probably the weather, I've been tired a lot lately.  It takes a lot to move me out the door to do things.  Hopefully Spring will be back soon to stay and things will perk up again.

I have more birdie photos to share that I took during the recent snows.  These all show some of the birds enjoying lunch at our feeder.  Believe it or not, we filled that feeder several times each day it snowed.

 Do you notice in the third photo that there are three different breeds of birds sharing lunch?  I often wonder why humans can't be like this all the time.

I don't have much news for today, so I think I'll take my leave here.  I have two big stacks of magazines to go through so that I can put them out in the recycle bin.  So, till Sunday, Y'all have a wonderful weekend.

A Time For Hearts To Heal

Good morning.  It's a bit warmer here today, but it is going to be raining most all day.  At least it's not snow.  Most of our snow has melted.  This is one clump of daffodils trying to survive in this last snow.

This is my huge hyacinth plant that I covered over with a trash bag box to keep it safe from the snow and ice.

 

Tuesday night the temperature dropped so low (only 20F degrees at daybreak) that all my plants started withering from the cold and ice.  These are some of the lilies that grow along the front edge of my hedge.  I'm hoping today's warmer temps will help them to perk up.

Yesterday turned out to be a pretty good day, and SIL Eddie, Pogo and I went to visit Aunt Lucy.  We had a wonderful visit, and she told Eddie that he has to come back and bring his family, and she will cook up some tasty spaghetti and meatballs.  Of course, we agreed that we'd all come back for that.   

Eddie took a couple photos of Lucy and me, and I used one of my recent QP's to scrap the memory.  We've lost so many years, and have a lot of catching up to do.

I should explain.  When my brother and I were very young, we had lots of aunts and uncles and cousins.  However, by the time I was around eight or nine, my mother started cutting us off from the whole family.  As she cut them off, they no longer existed.  As the years went by, she did this to most everyone, including my brother and I. 

Today, she might have been diagnosed as Bi-Polar, but back then it was unheard of.  We all thought she just did not want any of us in her life anymore.  Obviously, this created a lot of sadness for a lot of us.  My brother and I grew up with no family, just ourselves. 

Anyway, I never saw Aunt Lucy again until one day in the late 80's.  I had found my Uncle Freddie and he took my brother and I to see Aunt Lucy.  The next time I saw her was this past February.  I don't want to lose track of her again.  It's amazing, but we have so much in common.  Plus it's nice to have someone to call "Auntie."

Aunt Lucy has a big fluffy cat, and Pogo was having a grand time barking at the kitty to let it know who was boss.  Unfortunately for Pogo, kitty just hissed to let him know that they were not going to be playing buddies.  Hmmm, maybe next time Pogo.

DIL Janet was by last evening, and shared her good news.  She hasn't seen he step daughter for more than twenty years, when her first marriage broke up and the hubby took his daughter and moved away.  Years later, Janet tried unsuccessfully to find the girl.  Unbeknown to her, the step daughter had also been looking for Janet. 

A few days ago, the phone rang and it was the step daughter.  Oh my, this is wonderful.  Janet and her step daughter will be getting together next month.  I think this is so exciting.  I know the feeling when big holes in your heart begin to heal.  I am so happy for Janet and her step daughter.

Where Is Spring Hiding?

Good morning.  Goodness, the sun is shining, but it is only 22F degrees outside.  I think we're supposed to get up into the high 30's later today.  Somehow I don't feel very Springy right now.  My flowers aren't so happy about it either. 

Well, later this morning, Eddie, Pogo and I will be setting out to go visit with Aunt Lucy.  She and my uncle Freddie were married in the early to mid 40's. I remember seeing a photo of them - Lucy was all dressed up and Freddie was wearing his Army uniform.  They were so young and in love.  Hmmm, memories.

My friend Andrea asked me why Pogo doesn't get fat from all the fancy foods that he eats.  To be honest, I don't know.  However, he never overeats.  He eats what he wants and leaves the rest of the food on his plate.  Also, he's very active at times.  Pogo will be ten years old this month, but he acts like he is still a puppy. 

Somehow that doesn't work as well for me.  Each of my last doctor visits has shown me losing a bit of weight.  Two pounds, three pounds, one pound and this last visit was another two and a half pounds.  The only difference I can see though is that my right arm is a bit thinner than my left arm.  It's just not fair!!!

I'm watching the Weather Channel, and they say we have more snow coming next weekend.  Golly!  When will the real Spring get here???  They also say we have quite a bit more rain headed our way.  Maybe that will be our Spring??

Today I have more birdie photos to share with you.   They all eat together in our yard.  Even some squirrels and chipmunks come to enjoy the food with them.

I'll save some photos for tomorrow.   Remember I told you that I got the Shingles shot last week?  They give the shot in the fatty part of the underside of your arm.  This is what mine still looks like a week later.  It was a lot brighter, but it is finally starting to fade.
