November 11, 2016
Good morning. This morning is sunny and 53F degrees. Tis a great day to celebrate honor all the men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces.
This day traces its origins back to the end of World War I. On November 11, 1918, an armistice between the U.S.-led Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Though the war wasn't officially over until the Treaty of Versailles was signed seven months later, the November 11 is recognized as the end of the "war" to end all wars," according to the Veterans Administration.
In November 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of what was then known as Armistice Day. The day was originally celebrated with parades and a brief suspension of business at 11 a.m. Congress officially recognized the day with a resolution passed on June 4, 1926.
It was then that the day, November 11, was officially recognized as the date of the holiday. Almost thirty years later, after U.S. soldiers had served in World War II and Korea, Congress voted to change the name from Armistice Day to Veterans Day in honor of all those who served in the military. This morning, I did get up bright and early, and spent some time on my laptop making a new quick page for today. So many things have been happening around here lately, that I haven't had time to make any new QP's. We are very patriotic in my family, so I thought I'd let Lola and her little friend show off their adorable flag outfits that they are wearing in the Veterans' Day parade.

A couple days ago, as I was leaning over the gate on my porch, I realized how beautiful my view was, so I grabbed my phone and took this photo. Folks, it doesn't get better than this!
Yesterday, Pogo, dwarf Helen and I went shopping. We did a lot of browsing and a bit of shopping. We were able to get a bit of our Christmas shopping done, and I got a bag of soil for my new plants. Today I'll get them into new pots. Hopefully, I can keep them growing till next Spring when they can go outside.
While we out, I stopped in at the Post Office to have my passport photo taken. I need to send it along with my Utah license application. Wowsie, they make you take off your glasses, and you're not allowed to have anything in your hair. (bows, ribbons, etc.) No smiles, etc. You can't show anything to distract from the face. It's been a long time since I've had a passport, and there are lots of new rules. So here I am in all my glory.
Now I think I'd best get busy around here. There's a few things to do before I can play in the new plant dirt. So, till Sunday, Y'all have a fantabulous weekend.
Hugs, Edna B.

Hi,
Oh loved that tree... It is even more beautiful than the last time I saw it.. You are such a lucky lady to live in such a gorgeous area. Our crepe myrtles are slowly turning yellow but we do not have much in the way of floral foliage in my view. I wish tomorrow for a ride around the hill country and see the gorgeous views.
Great passport picture of you. I know that you will be excited when you have your license in your hand. I would be too.
All is good with Cisco. He just likes people food... Little stinker...
I gotta go.... time for some lunch. Then I am off to work on some coloring... Much love, Beth and Cisco
What a great view on that tree! It is beautiful.
Great you had a good time with Helen on the shopping tour and that yu actually found a few things.
That ohoto of yours is fantastic. Oh yes, rules about passport and identity cards are very strict now, here too. I thought that till now we could have our glasses on,but may be it has changed here too But no smiles anymore, all has to be very serious.
Jan is looking in the tv program guide to figure out what to take on dvd and what we are able to watch. One thing is for sure: Strictly come dancing will be watched!
Have to go now, coffee is ready and I an ready for it LOL
Hugs
Kyra
Good Morning to both of you! First, Happy Veteran's Day and thanks so much for the QP, very cute! Oh my, that Red Maple is so awesome and the flag with it is pretty cool indeed! Your passport photo is pretty good, can still see the smile in your eyes...funny, last one I had made they did not make me take off my glasses...oh how quickly times and rules change!
We are finally getting some cooler and really beautiful fall weather. I would love to be able to have a bit of respite from the mowers coming in, but it will be a while yet as they pick up the leaves too and they are not raining down too much yet and the grass is still very green and growing as long as we get these pass through showers!
My outside fur babies are enjoying the Critter Condos for staying out of the rain and the cooler morning temperatures. They are so very sweet when 2-3 are all curled up together...want to bring them all inside, but alas, the city would put me in jail...3 is the limit inside (shhhh...I have 5)
You and Pogo have a fantastic weekend and I'll chat more with you next time, now I must get up from here and get some breakfast or at least some more coffee! Hugs! Mat
thanks so much!
Somewhere there must be a collection of horrifying passport and drivers license photos. In both of mine I think I look like someone who has just been sentenced to life in prison or something like that.
Thanks for your wonderful postings and pictures!
Your pasport picture is MUCH lovelier than mine!
AND I love that red tree too
