Good morning. Shhh, I can't say this very loud because I don't want to jinx anything, but Pogo is just now finishing up a plate of doggie food for breakfast. He also had some last evening for a snack. My goodness, will wonders never cease!!
Well, sometime early yesterday morning, we got a few more drops of precipitation. I'm not sure when it got here or how it snuck by my door because I never saw or heard it. Pogo and I were up all night and we never saw it. Unless it quickly ran by us in the morning when I was napping.
Pogo seems to be handling his meds a little better. Oh, he still fights me all the way, but at least he has stopped spitting it out all over me. Yesterday, I missed one of his meds, I guess because my brain wasn't quite awake. However, this morning we are back on track.
SIL Eddie came by yesterday on his way home from work just to say hello and sit and chat for a little while. I don't get to see him as much now because the union called him back to work, and he has to work six days a week. So, yesterday's visit was a nice surprise.
This morning, in a little while, Joe and I will go do some grocery shopping before it gets really hot outside. I have to remember to take my insulated bag with me so that I can get some ice cream. This is the season for ice cream, but it is difficult to get it home from the market in an edible state. I'm not into soupy ice cream.
I have some cute photos to share that I took a couple days ago. Now that I have the porch, my little critter friends come up to sit on the railing sometimes. One of our squirrels thought it might be safe to eat his snack there. These photos were taken through the screen and window of the door.
There's not much news this morning, so I think I should go get dressed. We'll be leaving soon to do the grocery shopping. Also, have you been noticing the calendar? We are just about all out of this month. When I come back on Monday it will be a new month. So, till August, Y'all have a fantabulous day.
Hugs, Edna B.

Such A Night It Was!!
July 29, 2016
Good morning. It's almost 6:30 a.m. and I haven't been to sleep yet. No, I'm not sick or anything like that. And the temps were cool enough for a nice sleep. It's sort of a long story.
As you know, Pogo had to go to the hospital last evening to see his doctor again. This was not Pogo's favorite place to be and the A/C was on so the air was cool. The metal examining table was also cold, and as soon as the doctor walked into the room, Pogo had a bad case of the juicy squirties. I put him in the little sink to clean him off while the doctor had the task of cleaning off the examining table. Phew! Not the nicest smelling stuff.
After examining Pogo, his doctor said that Pogo has an extreme allergy to fleas and that was the problem. Somehow, somewhere, Pogo had picked up fleas and they were doing a real nasty number on him. He was treated right away to kill anything that might be on his body, then he had a steroid to help stop the itch.
Next came another medicine, but this one was in pill form. Pogo does not do pills, so I let the doctor try to give it to him. It wasn't easy, but all of a sudden the assistant yelled "Stop! He's turning blue." Now my heart jumped up into my throat. After checking Pogo again to make sure he was okay, the doctor decided to try a different medicine. Alas, this was also in pill form. This time the assistant tried to give it to Pogo, and again they had to stop because he started turning blue again.
By now, my poor little doggie was shaking and begging for me to pick him up and hold him. So I did just that. Next the he had to have another medicine, and the doctor treated him with Simple Guard 3 to help keep him safe from fleas. I already put Revolution on him once a month, but now he will have to have both treatments every month. Last night it was the Simple Guard 3, and in two weeks it will be Revolution. We will continue on this way, alternating the meds every two weeks.
The doctor and I took turns combing Pogo's fur until everything looked pretty free of the pesky fleas. His doctor felt pretty sure that his new med regime would take care of the flea problem and that it wouldn't be long before he would stop itching and be comfortable again. Gosh, I sure hope so.
When we got in the car to go home, I told Pogo that he might have to think about applying for Medicaid to pay for all his meds and doctor visits. He didn't have anything to say on this subject. On the way home, I stopped at McDonalds to get us some supper. It was too late to have to cook. We got our food and headed for home.
Oh no! Something doesn't smell so good. Really? Oh Pogo, not all over my front seat!!! Yup, it was all over the passenger seat, and he danced all through it (trying to get away from it) as I frantically drove the car home. Once we got in the driveway, I beeped the horn and Joe came out. He held Pogo while I opened my doors and then I took Pogo into the house to the bathroom for a bath. Meanwhile, Joe offered to clean the mess in my car. God bless him.
Before I set Pogo down, I sprayed and covered the sofa with nice clean bath towels. While he rested a bit on the sofa, I started spraying the carpet and his furniture, etc, and put a load of his blankets in the washer. Do you suppose I could sit down now for a bit to catch my breath? Oh no, thank goodness I covered the sofa with big towels because here we go again with the squirties. (I really need a break!!)
As I rushed around trying to keep up with everything, I slipped and started to fall, but I put out my arm to break the fall. It worked, however, my arm doesn't exactly look so very happy now. It's getting fat in spots and turning some nasty colors. But I still love my Pogo. Honest, I do!!
Another quickie bath, and more nice clean towels (the sofa cushions are covered with large black trash bags) and it was now time for us to eat. Thank goodness I got take out because there was no way I was in any mood to cook. Pogo gobbled up all of his double hamburger, and settled in for a nap.
So why didn't I get any sleep? Because he sleeps all night snuggled up against my side and leg. If I fell asleep I wouldn't be able to jump up quick enough to avoid getting covered if Pogo had another bout of the squirties.. So I watched TV, and a couple times we both went out on the porch to cool off for a little while.
Dwarf Helen has to go out this morning to do an errand so she will pick up the birdseed that I need (so that I won't have to go out) and I will have me a nice nap after she gets back from the store. So, now aren't you glad you stopped by? Here's a photo of Pogo resting after he filled his tummy with all that tasty hamburger.
There's a fan blowing lightly on him and he is enjoying it. He looks kind of big here, but he's not. He's stretched over the footrest on the lounge chair.
I have another image to share with you. I found this really awesome tee shirt on the web and I just had to post it here. These are my sentiments exactly!!
I had a couple more photos to share, but they will have to wait until tomorrow. My eyes are starting to feel rather scratchy and the eyelids keep trying to close. I need to get up and walk around a bit so I don't fall asleep before Dwarf Helen gets back with the birdseed.
I will post again tomorrow instead of on Sunday because I have to leave Sunday morning for an all day class on how to shoot and clean guns. This should be a fun class, although many many moons have gone by since I used to practice shooting at the gun club. I was young and strong back then. Now I'm not so strong and the guns weigh more than me almost. (just kidding)
That's it, I'm done. So till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.
Hugs, Edna B.

Boo Hoo! Pogo Isn't Speaking To Me!
July 28, 2016
Good morning. So far, it has been a very frustrating morning. I started typing my post, then had to take a break to try to correct a problem with my wi-fi service. I eventually got that fixed (to a point) and came back to finish my post. Sad to say, Blogger is in a feisty mood and would not let me type anything recognizable. I had to erase the whole post and start over. Please don't tell me that this is going to be one of those "Murphy's Law" days!
I have Comcast cable, and my wi-fi sucks! Big time! However, I've discovered that if I shut it off (on my cell phone) and use the Verizon wi-fi, I'm okay. If that's the case, why am I paying all this money to Comcast?????
Pogo has been sticking right to me lately, but last night I got up off my chair to get a new bottle of water, and Pogo (for some strange reason) jumped down off the chair and ran into his little cloth dog house and refused to come out. Not for food, not for me, not for nothing!!!
This morning he is still in the doghouse, and wants nothing to do with me. I wonder if it's because I put a tee shirt on him to make it more difficult to scratch himself. Anyway, I finally picked up the dog house and put it on the sofa with me and literally had to dump Pogo out of it!! Here's a photo of him hiding inside the dog house. I used the flash so that we could see him.
Oh boy, wait till he discovers that he has another doctor appointment later this evening!! He'll really be mad at me. This morning I ordered a bottle of fish oil to add to his food, and a bottle of Aloe Vera Gel for his skin. I also ordered a couple items to put away for Christmas. I'm really hoping that soon we'll be able to get to the bottom of Pogo's nasty itch and get rid of it.
Nothing in his life these past few years has changed. He is loved and spoiled every day, he eats only the best foods (he's very picky) and he gets whatever he wants. So what else can I do? I'm beginning to feel like a neglectful mama.
Okay, so on a lighter note, I've dug out a few fun photos from my archives to share with you. I took these at our local park. This is one happy little duck who sure knows how to keep cool!
Now I think I'll get me a nice cold bottle of water and find some more mischief to get into. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.
Hugs, Edna B.

Being Well Informed Can Be Very Interesting
July 27, 2016
Good morning. Yikes! It's only mid morning and temps are already in the mid 80's, and headed for the low 90's. I am positively wilting! Thank goodness for the air conditioning.
Well, last evening, daughter Deanne and I went to our class on Basic Firearm Safety. There was quite a good mix of folks in the class, men and women, young and old. The instructor was very knowledgeable, and the class was very educational.
Towards the end of the class, we all had a chance to hold and properly unload a revolver, a rifle and a shotgun. This was very enlightening, and at the end of the class everyone received a "Basic Firearms Safety Certificate." The next class will be this coming Sunday where we will learn more about how to properly handle and shoot a gun. This should be another interesting and educational day.
To change the subject, did you know that there are laws as to how long you can legally leave your car engine running? In Massachusetts, a car cannot be idling more than five minutes unless it is being serviced or it is being used to deliver or accept goods where engine assisted power is necessary. If someone is caught, they can be levied with a $100 fine for the first offense and up to $500 for subsequent offenses. Hmmm, I don't think I ever heard of anyone being fined for this offense, have you? (click on the image to see a bigger view)
As you all know, Pogo has developed an awful itch, and it has been driving him crazy. Me too, for that matter. I give him special baths, Benedryl and an antiobiotic, but we haven't been able to lose the itch. I may have to take him back to the doctor for more tests. The poor little guy gets so frustrated hearing me constantly telling him to "stop that" scratching.
There is another medicine that we can try, but it is a pill that you have to push down the doggie's throat and I can't do that. The medicine does not come in liquid form, so I think I'll ask the doctor if it can be given by shot. Pogo wouldn't be too happy, but we really do need to get rid of the cause of the itch.
Here's a photo of Pogo grabbing a little nap after taking some Benedryl. Gosh, I feel so bad for him. He doesn't like the medicines, and can't understand why I keep giving it to him. He does spit some of the medicine out which. of course, makes him quite sticky. But then, that's a good reason for a nice cooling bath and a rub down with a big fluffy towel.
Today I have a new quick page for you. This one features a very happy Lola, who is practicing her dance steps with a friend. I hope you can use it.

Re-United Via The Internet
July 26, 2016
Good morning. It's another beautiful morning that is going to be a real scorcher in a few more hours. For some reason though, the nights have been cool, which I'm very thankful for. It's 96F in the daytime and 66F during the night. That's a big, but hugely appreciated, drop in temperature.
Yesterday I managed to do a couple loads of laundry. Hopefully, today I can do another load, this time with the towels. I've been trying to launder all of Pogo's blankets to help keep his "itchies" down. In between loads of laundry, I spent some time going through stacks of magazines. Once I removed my ID from them, they could be put in the recycle barrel.
Late yesterday afternoon, I got a friend request from someone on Facebook that was such a wonderful surprise. When my kids were young, I took in some exchange students. One boy in particular, Ulf, was from Sweden and stayed with us for the whole school year. We stayed close for a few years, but then somehow drifted apart. I haven't seen or heard from him for so many years. Until I got this friend request from him. Wowee!!
I downloaded a couple photos of him to share. This first photo is Ulf and his dog, and it's what he looked like shortly after he graduated from High School. He attended our high school with my daughter Audrey (for his senior year).
And this is a photo of him today. Gosh, it's so good to catch up with him again. It's almost like finding a missing relative. Wow, the wonders of the internet!!! I'm so glad you're back in our life, Ulf. I've missed you.
Today maybe I'll spend some time with the shredder. Goodness knows, I have lots to shred. Then this afternoon I'll try to have a little nap. I need to be bright eyed and bushy tailed for my class this evening.
Tonight, Deanne and I are attending the first of two classes for gun safety. She wanted this for her birthday, so that's what we're doing. I just hope the building where the class is held is air conditioned.
I have another photo to share. DIL Janet took this photo of her sleeping kitties. Aren't they just the cutest?
Well, that's my news for this morning. Now it's time to see what sort of mischief I can get into today. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

It's A Great Day For A Nap
July 25, 2016
Good morning. Tis another beautiful day here, and yes, another scorcher. If we didn't have to go out this morning, Pogo and I would go back to bed and sleep for another hour or two. It felt good to get some sleep during the night and we'd like some more. (greedy, huh?)
This morning, we have to go to the bank, and then to McDonalds to get me some iced coffee. After that, I'll do some laundry and make a bowl of tuna salad. Well at least that's the plan. Hmmm, this is strange. I just dozed off for fifteen minutes. Maybe I'll have a nap and go to the bank tomorrow.
I found an image on the web that fits me to a tee. Gosh, how did this person know?
Sad to say, now that we have this nice porch to sit out on, it's too hot to sit out. Poor little Pogo sits by the door and wants so badly to go out on the porch. So after a while, I let him go out there, only to have him come back in just a couple minutes. Ah well, we did go out there during the night for a few minutes. The cool air felt good.
Here's an interesting picture that I found on the web and thought I would share. It's quite a unique way to make a shady spot for lunch. Materials used are PVC pipes and shower curtains.
Now that I've decided that we'll go to the bank tomorrow, I think I'll put in a load of laundry and catch me a little nap. This heat makes me very tired. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.
Hugs, Edna B.

We're Thankful For The Cool At Night
July 24, 2016
Good morning. Here in New England it is hot, hot, hot! I realize other parts of the country are hotter than we are, but to us, this is very hot. Temps in the 90's every day. The only saving factor has been the coolness of the last couple of nights.
We had storm warnings a couple evenings ago. Rain, damaging winds and hail were forecast as being headed our way, along with thunder and lightning. Well, the thunder and lightning showed up for a while, along with about 57 extremely misty teeny rain drops. Make that 59. A couple of the drops hit the car and split in two. Then the storm moved further south.
As for sleep, well I've been taking advantage of little naps whenever they happen. Early yesterday morning, while it was still cool enough to walk and breathe comfortably, Joe and I went to Walmart to do our grocery shopping. I guess a lot of other folks had the same idea because there were a lot of shoppers there.
In the afternoon, I managed to do a couple loads of laundry, towels and such. But that was the extent of my ambition for the day. I did cook supper for Pogo. For myself, I nuked a frozen dinner. I don't have much of an appetite in this heat.
I dug into my archives for a couple photos that might help cool us off for a little bit. These photos were taken four years ago in December. What's really amazing is that in December of 2012, there were more roses blooming on the pink rose tree than we've had all of this year. Go figure.
Pogo and I are staying ahead of the heat as best we can. Every now and then I put the A/C on for a while to cool the room down, and we have a couple fans moving the air around. I would love to keep the door open with the window pane up all through the night when it is really cool, but that is not really feasible. (for safety reasons)
At four thirty this morning, I got up and made breakfast for Pogo and me while it was nice and cool. In a little while, I'll take a look to see what's for lunch. Maybe I'll have a bowl of cereal. Mmmm, that sounds cool and yummy. I have ice cream and milk. Maybe I'll make a milkshake. Oooooh, I'm making my mouth water! I think I should stop typing right now before I gain a few more pounds. haha. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.
Hugs, Edna B.

Who's Afraid Of Showing A Photo ID?
July 22, 2016
Good morning. Tis a beautiful, but sweltering, day here in New England. Today is supposed to get up into the mid to upper 90's. Too darn hot for me. Right now, it hasn't reached 80 yet, and there is a nice breeze. Pretty soon though, we'll have to close the window on the door to keep out some of the heat.
Joe and I are supposed to go grocery shopping later this afternoon, but we may have to wait until after supper till it cools off a bit. I don't know, we'll have to wait and see. I don't breath so good in this heat. Plus, the ice cream melts before we get home.
Lately, early mornings and late evenings seem to be the best time to sit out on the porch. Maybe once I have a fan out on the porch, I can sit out in the afternoon. SIL Eddie said he will come by when he can and put in an outlet so that I can plug in the fan.
Yesterday, while sitting out on the porch, I took a photo of part of the view from my rocking chair. I must say, it really is pretty.
Today, I have an appointment to speak with a person about solar energy. I'm not buying anything yet, but I thought I should look into it. It will be interesting to see how expensive it is to have the solar panels installed. I know there are companies that don't charge for the installation, but I haven't found them yet.
I just looked up the weather forecast for the next ten days, and we're not due for a break in these wicked high temps for a whole week. Then, we'll finally have a chance for a bit of rain for a day or two. Mind you, I said we have a chance. That does not mean that the rain will actually happen. But gosh, I hope it does.
I pulled a photo from my archives to share with you. This photo was taken four years ago today on my way to work. The cows were out in the field not far from the road, so I stopped to take some photos. This was at a dairy farm where they make the greatest ice cream.
There was another interesting article in the newspaper yesterday. The headline to this story reads: "Court finds Texas voter ID law discriminatory." Texas passed a law requiring an ID in order to vote. This was intended to cut down a lot of illegal voting. However, Mr. O in the White House claimed that it discriminated against black and Latino voters as well as low income residents, who face more difficulties obtaining the approved forms of identification (photo ID). Another challenger to the law said that "No American should ever lose their right to vote just because they don't have a photo ID."
Forgive my stupidity, but this law was not preventing any Americans from obtaining an ID and voting. It was to prevent illegals from voting. Texas U.S. Rep Joaquin Castro, a Democrat, tweeted: "The ..... ID law was nothing more than a political point-shaving strategy by Republicans to win elections by depressing turnout." (newspaper is: Boston Herald 7-21-16)
To me, this sounds like the Democrats really need the illegal votes to help their cause. Why are they afraid of requiring a photo ID to prove that you are an American in order to vote? This type of governing really offends me and my beliefs. As for the voter fraud, it is very real and widespread. When a community takes in more votes than it has residents, then something is really fishy. When there is a small cluster of voters all squished together into the voting booth, this too is rather fishy. When there are names listed on the voter sheets of people who do not even live in the town, you have another fishy situation.
I've seen some of this for myself, so I know it exists. If we can't count on our government to keep the voting honest, then we need to think about changing the people doing the governing. Well, that's my rant for today. (One more reason why I don't believe in the party system. I'd rather be free to make my own choice, and yes, I do have a photo ID.)
Now I think I'll see about doing a couple things around here before it gets much hotter. So, till Sunday, Y'all have a magnificent weekend.
Hugs, Edna B.

My Pogo Is A People Magnet
July 21, 2016
Good morning. Good news!!! It was nice and cool last night, and I slept!! It felt so good, I did not want to get up this morning. My little guy let me stay in bed until almost ten o'clock. But then I started feeling guilty. So I got up to make him some breakfast and give him his meds.
Yesterday, Pogo had his doctor visit, and now he has his new rabies tag. He weighed in at five and a half pounds, and aside from the itch he is very healthy. The doctor checked him over, and prescribed an antibiotic for his itch. If that doesn't help, she will try another medicine.
While we were waiting to pay the bill, Pogo made friends with two little girls and their mother. It does not matter where we go, people always come over to see and pet Pogo. And of course, Pogo just loves it. Sometimes, folks ask if they can take his photo to share with their friends and family. Yesterday his doctor even asked if she could take his photo. My little guy could be a super star!
A while ago, I found a beautiful image on the web, and borrowed it to share here. I don't know who took the photo, but it is just gorgeous. I would love to get a shot like this.
I read an article in our newspaper (The Boston Herald) about our governor, Charlie Baker, declining to dedicating the Zakim Bridge's blue lighting to slain police officers. I'm not questioning his decision, but one of his reasons does bother me. He said "I think choosing sides in this conversation is a bad idea. I think the best thing we can do, and the thing that we all ought to do, is to remember that everybody is somebody's son or daughter, and to start there."
The bridge's default color is blue, but it is frequently lit up in a different color for other people or events. I have a problem with his choice of words. ie...choosing sides is a bad idea. Maybe I'm missing something here, but what does "choosing sides" mean? To me, there is no choosing. Either we support the men and women who are trying to protect us, or we don't.
This makes me wonder if Mr. Baker is a solid Democrat and does not want to offend Mr. O who would not light the White House in blue to show support for our law enforcement officers. If these politicians cannot show respect for our police men and women, then why do they need to have several armed guards go everywhere with them to keep them safe? Maybe they should all be replaced by someone who does care?
Between the killings and the flag burnings, I'm becoming very disillusioned with the way our government responds in our defense. People who kill and/or burn our flag should be punished. No questions about it. I don't care who is offended or whose feelings are hurt. If you intentionally kill someone or burn the American Flag, you should be in jail.
Okay, enough of my little rant. Some days, I just have to get things off my mind. (I am neither republican nor democrat. I believe in voting for the person I feel is best for the job, regardless of their party affiliation.)
Today I have a new quick page for you. This one might be appropriate for photos of loved ones that we've lost.

Remember I mentioned a while ago that I ordered two new chairs for the porch? Well they arrived yesterday. When Joe came home from work, he said he would assemble them for me. Oh my, if you ever want to learn some of the seedier words in the English language, give a person one of these rocking chairs to assemble.
I finally produced a catalogue photo of the chair so that Joe could see what it should look like. I have to admit that the instructions that came with the chair were not easily understood. However, after a respectable amount of time, Joe had finished one of the chairs. Yeah!! He said he will try to assemble the other one today or tomorrow. I can live with that. Here's a photo of the one that is finished.
Ah well, the morning has flown by, and it's time to see what's in the fridge for lunch. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.
Hugs, Edna B.

Chocolate And Sage Are Good For You
July 20, 2016
Good morning. Oh my, I asked for a nice cool night and that's exactly what I got last night. It was the perfect night for sleeping. Alas, I did not sleep very well. My breathing has not been so good, and I seem to be using the oxygen more often.
Today is supposed to be in the mid to upper 80's, and then for the next six days we are looking at temps in the 90's. Oh joy! To make matters worse, several storms have come close by but they have all missed us. We really need some rain. Not a flood, mind you. But our water levels are going down.
Yesterday, Kevin, Pogo and I went to visit Aunt Lucy. She is such a fun person, and we all had a great time. Aunt Lucy just loves Kevin. Especially when she learned that he would like be to a state trooper one day after college and the military. One of her sons was a state trooper, so this really made her smile.
A couple days ago, I got a lovely surprise in my email. My friend Beth made this beautiful scrap page of Pogo enjoying an afternoon on the porch. Beth, thank you so much. I love it.
Have you ever had a moment where you forgot how to spell a word, or even worse, forgot the word you want to use? One way around this problem, is to change your whole sentence to use other words.
According to my book "The Ultimate Women's Guide to Beating Disease", I need to eat more chocolate. Chocolate helps you feel sharper, more relaxed and just plain happier. Also, I need to pick up some sage oil. One hour after people took a supplement of sage oil, they had better memory, more focused attention, and more alertness. Even just sniffing sage helps to give you a better memory. (Book written and published by Bottom Line Health 2016)
This afternoon, Pogo has a doctor appointment to update his rabies shot and find out why he is so itchy lately. Hopefully, his doctor can give us something to alleviate the itch.
Now I'm going to see if I can squeeze in a little nap before it's time for us to leave. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.
Hugs, Edna B.

Just A Short Post
July 19, 2016
Good morning. It's only 8:30 a.m. and it's 75F degrees. Today is supposed to only get up to 80 or the low 80's. That would be a nice break. Now if we could just have a few cool nights so that I could get more than thirty minute snatches of sleep at a time. This would be super nice.
This will have to be a short post because in a little while my grandson Kevin will be here to pick Pogo and me up. We're going to visit Aunt Lucy. I had thought we might go craft shopping this morning, but Auntie has to hang around the house today. So, we'll go another day.
I think I'll bring my tablet with us today. Aunt Lucy does not want anything to do with computers or smart phones, but I thought maybe a tablet wouldn't feel so intimidating. It would be a nice way to share photos and such. I'll have to see what she thinks about my tablet.
Today I have more photos from my gardens. This first photo is a close up of the flowers on the Citron plant. The second photo is seed pods, and the third photo is the red Knock Out roses.
I promise I'll chat a bit longer tomorrow. Now, I have about thirty minutes to get dressed and ready to leave. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.
Hugs, Edna B.

Do They Have Birthdays In Heaven?
July 18, 2016
Good morning. Today's a big birthday way up yonder. Here's hoping the guys are enjoying a lobster dinner. That's what I cooked for them every year on their special day. Two big lobsters each, corn on the cob, potato salad, garden salad, and whatever they wanted for dessert. Mmmm, memories.
Today will be another scorcher. It's going to be like this at least until the beginning of August. That's according to the weather forecast. It doesn't look like we'll be getting very much (if any) rain during this time either. We're in sort of a drought situation. We really do need some rain.
It's even warm all through the night. I guess the trick is to get as much sleep as you can during the day, and then do as much as you can throughout the night when the temps aren't as hot. Of course, if you work days, then this won't help you.
Today I have some cute photos of one of our squirrels to share with you. I took these photos a few days ago. We still have the dumpster in our yard, and this little squirrel has found some interesting things in it. His treasure has writing on it, and it looks like he is reading it.
Wait a minute!! He's not reading that thing. He's actually trying to eat it!!
In the end, he decided to take it home with him. I watched as he jumped down off the dumpster with his treasure in his mouth, and went running off towards his home. Enjoy little fellow!
Today I have two appointments very close together, so I'm going to have to call and cancel one of them. Gosh, I go from days with nothing happening to "overfull" days. Ah well, at least I'm lucky enough to have all these days.
Tomorrow I'm hoping to spend some time with Aunt Lucy, and on Wednesday Pogo has a doctor appointment to get his rabies shot. I'll see if she can give us something to take away Pogo's itch. After that, the rest of the week should be rather quiet. I think.
Well that's my news for today. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a magnificent day.
Hugs, Edna B.

Pogo Is Loving The New Porch
July 17, 2016
Good morning. Gosh, I've been up since 4 a.m. and now I'm getting tired. It was warm and sticky all night, so sleep came in batches. This morning, I've put the A/C on for a while just to get some of the sticky out of the air.
Yesterday was quiet around here. Pogo and I sat out on the porch for a few hours. I have to say that we are loving our new porch. Pogo sat here on the love seat most of the time. He didn't even care when I would leave to go in the house for something. He was just loving his new space.
A few days ago, Pogo and I took a walk around the yard, and I took a few photos of some of the flowers that are blooming. Here are some of the lilies and a pink astibile (I think).
Today I think I'll do a load of laundry. Maybe I'll do one with Pogo's blankets too. Then tomorrow morning, I have to call and try to reschedule an appointment. I have too many things to do tomorrow and some of them overlap their times.
It's looking like it just might rain today. It's been gray outside, but who knows? It could all change in a couple of hours. Either way, it's okay. The gardens wouldn't mind a bit of rain.
If I don't fall asleep when I sit down in my lounge chair, I might even read a book. I have lots of new ones on my tablet just waiting to be read. Somehow though, I'm thinking that sleep might win over the books. My eyelids are having trouble staying open. lol. Maybe I should just give in and go have me a nap. Oh yeah, sounds like an awesome plan.
On that note, I think I'll take my leave. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.
Hugs. Edna B.

Happy Birthday Cliff
July 15, 2016
Good morning. My goodness, have you noticed that July is already half over? It's going too quickly for my taste. So isn't the morning. I've been up for hours doing goodness knows what, and I haven't really accomplished anything. So what else is new??
Cliff is back today doing a few things around here for me. I did not know it until a couple hours ago, but today is his birthday. I'd have had him come by another day. I'm wishing you a Happy Birthday Cliff, and I hope the rest of your day is really nice.
Yesterday afternoon, I put the chairs on the porch just in time for the heavens to open up and treat us to a large dose of rain. It did not last very long though, and then Pogo and I sat out on the porch for a little while. Slowly, Pogo is getting used to the porch. At first, I had to pick him up and carry him out there. Now I just have to hold the door open and he goes out there by himself.
Here's a photo of my little guy sitting on the porch. It's almost time for Joe to come home from work (yesterday) so he stayed right there and waited for Joe.
DIL Janet came by after work to pick up her cell phone (which she had forgotten to take home with her the night before), and we sat out on the porch for a bit. Now I definitely know that I want to order two new chairs. The ones that I got just aren't wide enough to be comfortable. Us gals have sizable hineys.
I found an adorable cartoon on the web that I had to share here with you. I seem to have quite a few days like this.
Do any of you get the Readers Digest? This magazine has some great stories, and interesting word lists. Did you know that there are only four root words in the English language that begin with "dw"? Can you name them? Go ahead and try.
Yesterday, Pogo and I went to the car dealership. My car now has a clean bill of health and a new sticker; and they washed my car windows for me. This is so very appreciated because I can't reach the front windshield to wash it. (both inside and outside)
Now I think I'll see about getting a few things done around here while I still have a speck of energy. So, till Sunday, Y'all have a fantabulous weekend.
Hugs, Edna B.

Things Are Looking Up Again
July 14, 2016
Good morning. Today will be another warm one, but it is looking to be a bit cloudy. At least at the moment. This is good though, because Pogo and I have to take the car to the dealership for a regular check up and a new safety sticker.
On our way home, we have to stop at the hardware store for a tube of clear sealer. Then we will come straight back home. (Well, maybe we'll stop at McDonald's to pick up a burger for Pogo's lunch) Last evening, SIL Eddie's friend Cliff came by to get rid of the hornet nest that is on the new porch. He did a great job, and when he got the whole thing removed, he filled in the space where it was with wood.
Today, Cliff is coming by to do a couple more things around here for me. While he is busy doing that, I will start setting things back on the porch ... chairs, table, potty patch, Pogo's little bed, etc. Then I will take some new photos. As soon as I get around to picking up the white paint, Joe will paint the wall of the house. (That's the part of the house outside wall that is inside the porch.)
Last evening, while DIL Janet was here, I got a package from Amazon. It was the movie that I had ordered (Torch Song Trilogy) and the bottle of "itch" shampoo that I had ordered for Pogo. We watched the movie while we ate our supper. It was good to see it again.
Around 3 a.m., Pogo started itching again, so off we went to the bathroom, and I gave him a nice bath with the new shampoo. Plus, I gave him some Benedryl. After that, he was able to sleep for a nice block of hours. When we get home later today, I'll give him another bath with the new shampoo. I have absolutely no idea what he is allergic to.
I found this cute image on the web and thought I'd like to share it with you. Ever have one of those days when nothing seems to go right? This is sort of how I felt once the porch was finished, and then we found the hornet nest. Ah, but all is much better now.
I realized yesterday that I had not posted a new quick page for you, so I have one today. Enjoy.

That's about all the news for this morning. Some days it's pretty quiet around here. But that is good. Pogo and I are too old for constant excitement. Would you believe, on his next birthday, Pogo and I will both be 77. Where has all the time gone?
Ah well, now it's time for me to get dressed and ready to leave. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Are You Kidding Me??
July 13, 2016
Good morning. It's a bright sunny day, and I do believe it's going to be hot, hot, hot. Well, guess what? Yup, yup, yup!! The porch is finished! Yeaaaaaaah!! But I can't use it for a bit.
What? Are you kidding me? Groan, groan. How we all did not notice this, I don't know, but there is a hornet nest in the cornice over the window (on the house inside the screened part of the porch) Now I don't know about you, but I'm not so happy about sharing my beautiful new porch with hornets!
Last evening after supper, Joe filled the nest with hornet spray. It killed a few, but there are still a few hornets that won't leave the porch. We'll probably have to remove the cornice altogether. I'll see if Joe will do that soon. Like tonight!! Oh gosh, I hope so.
Here are some photos of the finished project. Before leaving, the workers found a good place for my flag, and put it up for me.
They even built a really nice gate that is Pogo proof. We hope! Now Pogo can run around the whole porch. He'll probably want to stay out there all day. Next, they put in a couple hanger hooks so that I could put up the hanging plants. One inside the screened area, and one near Pogo's door.
Folks, there's nothing like a little porch, some pretty flowers and a fur baby to chase away any blues that might decide to come your way. I have waited twenty one years for this porch, and I love it!
Lately, I've been looking around for an old movie that I really enjoyed and would like to watch again. Last evening, I found it on Amazon, so I ordered it. It's called Torch Song Trilogy. So guess what I'll be doing Friday evening? Yup, you guessed it! If you like movies with a lot of human emotions and feelings, give this one a try.
Today, I'll be staying off my feet a lot. My left foot and lower back have been acting up again. Last night, I finally dug out the pain pills so that I could get some sleep. Pogo woke me up around 4 a.m. with his scratching. I'm not sure what they used at the salon for shampoo, but he has been itching since he came home with his new hair cut.
So, after brushing him and giving him some Benedryl, I put him in his bathtub (the new bathroom sink) and gave him a bath with his medicated shampoo. Then we sat on the sofa while I towel dried him. Of course, that meant we had to play a while too. It was close to six a.m. before we both nodded off to sleep again.
Needless to say, my eyes are a tad bit droopy this morning. So I'm going to treat myself to a nice nap in a little while. Pogo is already sleeping. Well, that's my news for this morning. Now I'm going to head over to my comfy lounge chair and let my eyelids droop shut. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

We're Making Progress
July 12, 2016
Good morning. It's early, so it's still pretty cool outside. The sun hasn't even woke up yet. Ah, but in a few hours, the temps will be in the mid 80's. So, I'm enjoying the morning coolness while it's here. Ah, as I speak, the sun is just now peeking over the treetops.
In a little while, the work crew will be here again. Yesterday, they did accomplish quite a bit. Most all the roof shingles are on, and a lot of the screening is on. The door to the screened in area is also installed, and a cement step was poured. There's still plenty to keep them busy, but I'm hoping that they finish it today. If not, one more day won't hurt me.
Here's a photo of the crew working, and a shot of the screen door. The door has a pet screen on the bottom half so that pets can't scratch it and tear the screen. Rather thoughtful.
While I was checking some of the potted plants, I noticed that the yellow lilies are spreading. Instead of the one or two that I thought we had, there are a couple of big clumps. Woo Hoo! This is good! They are such a happy color.
I think today will be a rather quiet lazy day for Pogo and me. Aside from washing a few dishes and maybe running the vacuum a bit, we don't have any plans for today. Watching the crew work keeps us pretty busy. Speaking of the work crew, they have just arrived. I need to get out there, because I have a couple questions for them. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.
Hugs, Edna B.

Happy Birthday Wishes To Miss Bea And Andi
July 11, 2016
Good morning. It's starting out gray again, but oh my, the temperature feels sooooo good! It's 60F degrees at the moment, but will soon be up around the mid 70's. I just went outside and moved my car because the contractors should be here in just a little while. I think. The last two times they were here, they showed up at 7 and 7:15 a.m. I'm hoping they show up at 7 today. I'd really like to get this porch finished.
We used to have two great big butterfly bushes in the garden on the other side of the house, but the winter with the heavy snows kind of destroyed them. We lost one all together, and cut the other one way down to try to save it. Last year, it didn't look too good, but now it is beginning to grow. I don't know yet what color this one is.
Also, the new white rose bush is covered with lots of beautiful new blooms. This one is planted in the garden near the shed. Gosh, it is just so pretty!
Last evening after supper, Joe helped me take everything off the porch and put it all in my car's trunk. For some reason, Pogo's play yard did not want to cooperate, but after about twenty minutes of trying, Joe finally got it to close up. (men don't like to look at the instructions)
Later I decided to crochet for a while, and golly gee, I found a mistake two rows back. So now I had to unravel those two rows, fix the mistake, and then put the rows back on before I could start any new rows. This sort of takes all the fun out of the crocheting. However, I did manage to get a couple new rows on before setting it aside.
This afternoon after the work crew leaves for the day, Pogo and I have to go to the Post Office and the bank. We have a birthday box to mail, and the bills are wanting to be paid. One birthday is for daughter Audrey's friend, Miss Bea, whose birthday is today. Pogo and I wish you a beautiful day and a happy birthday, Miss Bea.
The other birthday is belated. Granddaughter Andi (Audrey's daughter) had a birthday a few days ago. Pogo and I are sending you belated best wishes Andi, and I hope your birthday was beautiful.
As I sit here typing, the big truck just rolled in with the work crew. Woo Hoo!! It's looking like it might rain, but I hope it holds off until the work is finished. On my next trip out shopping, I think I'll have to look for a new chair for the porch. The ones I bought are comfy, but a tad on the narrow side. My tushi isn't quite as teeny tiny as it used to be. (Haha. Actually, it is rather plump!) I would be more comfortable in a chair with a bit more room for the seat.
I have a new photo to share that daughter Deanne sent to me. These are my beautiful girls, Jazzy and Janicee, at the local fair. Just two of my many blessings.
Now I think I should go get dressed so that I can go outside and see what the guys are doing. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.
Hugs, Edna B.
