Yup, The Cold Caught Me!

January 31, 2019

God afternoon.  Tis cold here, and my car is frozen.  It runs, but I cannot get into it.  The locks and doors are frozen shut.  Pogo and I were all ready and wet out to get in the car, but surprise!  After trying with no success to get into my car, we came back into the house.  I had to call the VCA and reschedule Pogo's appointment til next week.

Well, now I know why my eyes would not stay open yesterday.  I have a full blown cold!  Thank goodness for Alka Seltzer, cough drops, and anything else I can get my hands on.  So, now I'm back in my jammies and flannel housecoat.  In a little while, I'll maybe indulge in a little nap.  Hmm, maybe not, because Joe will be home soon and Pogo will be wanting to go out into the house and have his turkey treat.

One good thing about having this cold is that I fell asleep early last night and slept just about the whole night.  But that's it.  The cold itself is sucky!  Thank goodness I have my little Pogo.  Without him, I probably wouldn't get out of bed until my cold was all gone.  He does keep me going, and I'm so thankful for him.

Last night DIL Janet came by and brought us take out supper from Wendy's.  Oh yum yum!  I haven't had that in a long time and it was simply delicious!  We had a super visit,  and got a surprise when it was time for her to go home.  It had been snowing and the wind was blowing pretty good.  It was too cold for me to go outside so I had to wave goodbye from inside the door.

After watching TV for an hour, it was time for a date with the sandman.  I think Pogo has a cold too.  He's beside me on the sofa snoring away, all snuggled into a pile of blankets.  He did not want breakfast today, so maybe he's just not feeling right.

A couple days ago, our turkey friends came back to feast once again on our birdseed.  I did take a couple photos to share here.  These birds really are fun to watch.

This second photo shows the turkeys enjoying the cup full of birdseed that Joe threw out for them.  The rest of the flock is over by the bird feeder.  I think there were about thirty or more turkeys in this group.  Isn't nature great?

I borrowed this picture from a friend's blog to share here.  The message it gives is a very important one for all of us.   I think that all generations should be able to interact with one another, and enjoy being with each other.  We have so much to learn from each other.

Well, I think it's time for my Alka Selter cocktail.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay warm and have a fantabulous day.

My Eyes Are Closing As I Type

January 30, 2019

Good morning.  You won't believe this, but I have been trying for almost an hour to get online and to my blog.  I think I'm going to be forced into buying a new laptop a lot sooner than I had figured on.  To make matters worse, I've been searching for my cell phone.  I finally fount it -- IN MY POCKET!

It was supposed to be raining all through the night and all day today.  BUT, it didn't happen.  At least not yet.  However we did get the colder temps.  Tonight drops down to barely above zero degrees.

Last night, I stayed up super late trying to get all my bills paid and ready for this morning mailman.  Sad to say, this morning I can barely keep my eyes open.  So, this will have to be a short post.

Let me give you the new quick page before I fall asleep sitting here.

Tis A Good Day Today

January 29, 2019

Good morning.  Tis 25F degrees and cloudy at the moment, but the sun just might make a showing sometime this morning.  Temps are supposed to warm up to the mid thirties by this afternoon.  That will be nice because we'll be getting more of the wicked cold temps for a few days.

The mailman just came and there was a gift subscription to "Reminisce" magazine in my mail.  Thank you so much Beth.  I'm going to enjoy this magazine.  It's full of memories from my childhood.

I'm debating whether or not I want to go out and do a bit of shopping or not.  I probably should go because I have one prescription to pick up.  Plus I could use some milk and a couple other things.  Well, I'll have to think about it.

Yesterday I had my appointment with my regular doctor.  I wasn't looking forward to it, but it turned out to be a good visit.  Aside from my obvious problems, I'm in pretty good health.  I totally agree!  I just have to get my body to go along with this.

Actually, I'm super thankful for every new morning that I wake up.  Even the not so good days are good because I'm here to deal with them.  Plus, in four and a half weeks, Pogo and I are going to Florida and bask in the warm sun for two weeks.  Oh joy, oh joy!

But first, there's those pesky taxes to deal with.  So I guess that's what I'll be doing later today.  I already have a good start on them so it shouldn't be so bad this year.  See?  I'm talking myself into good thoughts about them.  (I hope it works!)

I found this cute image on the web and had to share it here.  I might be one of those folks who needs these utensils.  For some reason, I don't stick to my diets very well.

I also found a chart on plants that are poisonous to cats.  We all want our cats to be safe so hopefully this will be helpful.

I'm watching Deal Or No Deal on TV, and the contestant is a young girl who just had double lung implant surgery two months ago.  She has a three year old daughter, and a smile that just won't quit.  I hope she wins big money!

Thursday, Pogo has his doctor appointment.  We'll make sure he's all set with his shots, and get a new travel letter for the airline.  After that, it's Fla Fla, here we come!

I'm seriously thinking that I just might go pick up my prescription and a few other things.  We have some not so good weather coming later today.  So, before I go, let me share this bit of giggles with you.  (courtesy of the web)

I have to chuckle every time I think of the look on this kid's face with the guy's answer.  I hope it gave you a smile too.  Now I'm off to get started on this new day.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all STAY WARM and have a fantabulous day.

These Tiny MeerKats Are Awesome!

January 28, 2019

Good morning.  Temps are in the high twenties, and we may make it all the way up to 31F degrees later today.  The weatherman says we have a little more snow and lots more rain headed our way tomorrow night and Wednesday.  I have to go out this morning and then again on Thursday, so this works out okay for me.

I don't have much time for posting this morning, but I do want to share a fun thing that I stumbled across on the internet.  It's called a "Tiny MeerKat" trailer.  Oh my, what a cutie!  This could be just about the right size for me and Pogo in case we wanted to do a bit of traveling around.  Here are some photos showing the Tiny MeerKat inside and outside.

This tiny trailer weights only 900 pounds, can be towed by almost any 4-cylinder car, and it can even fit in a standard garage.  It comes with all the amenities that we need and the list price starts at $17,820.  There are extras that you can order with it, and even a custom color can be available for an extra $1,450.  I think I'm in love!

If this tickles your fancy, you can look these little MeerKats up on Google.  If this were available ten or fifteen years ago, I'd have been sitting on their doorsteps waiting to buy one.  Today I'd first have to do a bit of research on how and where to hook up the electric and water, and how to empty and clean the porta potty.  (I was much braver when I was younger!)

Now that I've given you something to think about, I'll take my leave.  I have to be getting ready for my appointment soon.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all be SAFE, and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Tis A Very Good Weekend So Far

January 27, 2019

Good morning.  It's not daylight yet but I couldn't sleep so I thought I may as well get up and have some breakfast and post here on my blog.  For breakfast, I had Sausage, Egg & Cheese on a Croissant.  I usually buy Jimmy Dean brand, but this time there was none so I bought the store brand Great Value (WalMart).  It tastes the same and it costs fifty cents less per box of four.  These are in the frozen department if you're interested.

My coffee is tasting extra delicious because the air in here is a bit nippy.  The temps outdoors are at 20F degrees.  The forecast says the temps will go up to around 40F degrees later this afternoon..  Of course, tomorrow the temps will be a bit colder.  Well, natch!  I have a doctor appointment tomorrow!

It's time for me to buckle down and get serious with my tax stuff.  Maybe if I do a bit of it each day this week, I can get it pretty much finished?  Gosh, that sounds sooooo good!  We'll see how it goes.

Yesterday, Deanne brought me my copy of the DVD for the show Gypsy that Jazzy was in this past Fall.  We sat and watched it together.  We were not allowed to take any videos at the actual performances, so I tried to take some videos from the TV.  The DVD's are not very good quality, but I did the best I could.

I uploaded four videos to Facebook.  These were my favorite parts when Jazzy was performing.  They were:  a section where Jazzy did a dance routine with one of the guys, a duet "When Momma Gets Married",  Jazzy as Gypsy, and my most favorite when Jazzy sings "Little Lamb."  If you want to see them, I'm Franny Loud on Facebook.  Friend me and I'll accept.  Drop me a note in comments or email if I'm not familiar with your name.

My new Reader's Digest came recently and I copied a couple of interesting items to share with you.  This first one gives us some great uses for WD-40.  This is a good one to know this time of year.

And this next one gives us some help for washing our windows and keeping the streaks away.  I can use this one!

Yesterday I found me a batch of energy and I used it to clean out my vacuum cleaner and do a bit of vacuuming.  Vacuuming is difficult for me because it interferes with my breathing.  However, I did get through it without any ill effects.  (only one room)  While I was cleaning out the vacuum's dirt container, I realized that I need a new HEPA filter so I went to Amazon and ordered a couple of them.

I am so glad for Amazon.  It certainly does make my life so much easier.  They have just about anything I might want to order, there's no shipping fee, and there are free movies and books and music.  I even order some of my staple grocery items from them.  They are definitely worth the membership price.

Today I have another new quick page for you.  This might be fun for some of your snow photos.  Enjoy!

On the news this morning, there was one very happy story about a little three year old boy who was missing and lost in the woods for more than two days.  He has been found and is in good condition.  He says that a bear kept him safe for two days.  God Bless both him and that wonderful bear.

Now I'm off to find some mischief to get into.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

And We Think We've Been Cold?

January 25, 2019

Good morning.  Before I start, let me apologize for my whining about the wicked cold we've had lately.  I'm watching the Weather Channel and the temps in the Mid West and Northern states make our cold temps look rather wimpy.  Some of their temps range from 30 below zero to plus four.  These temps are with and without wind chill factors.  Not nice!!  Nope, not even a tiny speck nice!

Yesterday was wet and windy.  The wind howled all day long.  Every now and then it would howl so loud that Pogo would run to the door barking at whatever demons were out there.  Folks, my little guy would not have been able to walk across the yard yesterday without being picked up and tossed about by the wind.

Half of the driveway was flooded, so some of the dwarfs had to walk through the water to get to the front porch.  Most of the flooding has gone now, and the part still left has been transformed into an ice skating rink for the little critters to play on.

My regular doctor's office called yesterday to tell me they had to reschedule my next appointment.  We finally decided on next Monday, mid morning.  Am I happy about it?  Nope, I would rather have rescheduled it to May or June.  Ah well, I may as well get it behind me.

I went into my photo archives and dug out this photo of Audrey and her two fur babies, Moon and JB.  You have to know that while hubby Mac is away in Japan, these two handsome fellows are taking really good care of Audrey.

Today I'll have to work on my laptop for a while, making some new quick pages.  My file folder is looking a bit thin and empty.  This should make for a fun afternoon.

The cold weather has been making my hands hurt a bit so I've picked up my crocheting.  Each night, I try to put on one new row.   I'm not crazy about working with only one color so this afghan is going to take a while.  I figure that with one row a night, I should have it finished before the middle of May.

Today I have another coloring page from Dover for you.  This one is titled "Guardian Angel of Dogs."  Enjoy it.

Now I want to do a bit of blog reading before I go looking for some mischief to get into.  So, till Sunday, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Have You Had Your Flu Shot?

January 24, 2019

Good morning.  Wow, what a difference in the temps this morning.  It's 51F degrees and headed toward a high of 57F degrees.  Of course, it does come with lots of rain.  It's only misting at the moment, but give it time.  There is a breeze however, and my flag is waving happily over the front porch.

I was just reading an article in our newspaper about the flu here in Massachusetts, where the health experts are saying that it is surging.  Last year was the worst flu season since 2009, and it contributed to the death of an estimated 79,400 people nationwide.

What can we do about this?  Get your Flu shot!  It takes two weeks for the shot to take effect.  If you have not had your shot yet, please do so now because we still have a way to go in this year's flu season.  Call your doctor if you start having flu symptoms.  Stay home from school and/or work to keep from spreading the flu to others.

Another article that caught my eye is about a man shooting another man over the purchase/sale of a car.  They were arguing over the selling price of the car, and one man pulled out a gun and shot the other guy.  What caught my interest was the fact that the shooter did not have a license to be carrying the gun.

This is important because the "anti-gun" folks would have you think that all the gun killings are done by licensed gun owners.  This is not the case.  I do believe that a bit of research would find that most killings are done by unlicensed people who have illegal weapons.   Instead of threatening us with more gun laws, why not just enforce the laws that are already on the books?

That's the end of my "mini rant."

Today I have another angel coloring page for you.  This is also from Dover, where you can get your own coloring pages for free by signing up for them.  DoverPublications.com.  This is the Guardian Angel of Cats.  Enjoy.

I did not get to go out yesterday after all.  Instead, Pogo and I had a lazy day (what else is new?) and finished it off with a take out order of Chines food for our supper.  As usual, I ordered extra Pork Lo Mein because this is our favorite and we like to have it the next day too.  Which we did.  For breakfast this morning.  Yum, yum.

Now I'm off to do a bit of blog reading before looking for some mischief to get into today.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Temps Are Warming Up A Bit Today

January 23, 2019

Good morning.  I've been up for a couple of hours, but I've been busy working on a quick page for today.  Somehow it just never got warm enough to come out from under the blankets to do a bit of designing.  This morning though, temps are already up to 18F degrees.  It looks as though it could reach as high as 42F degrees before the day is over.  Woo Hoo!

This is good because I do have to go out today to do a couple errands and to pick up Jazzy at the college this afternoon.  Even if it is raining, the warmer temps are very welcome.  As for the rain, no it is not raining now but the weatherman says that it will rain tonight and all day tomorrow.  Actually, we'll be having flood watch alerts till tomorrow evening.

There was so much that I wanted to do these past couple of days, but it wasn't enough to tempt me and Pogo out from under our blankets.  I should mention (for new readers) that there is no basement beneath my part of this big old house, so when it is cold outside, the cold comes right up through my floors.

Ah, but today we get a much needed break.  Pogo and I got up and had our breakfast, then I sat down to do some things on my laptop.  Pogo has since crawled back under his afghan and is napping.  My little guy is going to turn thirteen this April.  You'd never guess it though, he still hops around like a happy puppy.

On TV they are showing some of the different little houses that fishermen put up on the ice so that they can enjoy some ice fishing.  It is soooo different than how we did it in my day.  Yup, I did do a bit of ice fishing in my very younger days.  We didn't have houses on the ice, but we did have something to sit on and a thermos full of hot coffee.

Has anyone seen the TV ad for (I believe) Chantix?  You can correct me if I'm wrong about the product being sold.  Anyway, the ad features an adorable turkey.  I guess it's saying that instead of trying to quit smoking "cold turkey" you should do it "slow turkey."  My point being that this turkey is just the cutest thing, and so very entertaining.

Today I have a new quick page for you.  This one might be nice for your winter weather photos.  Have fun with it.

Just Checking In

January 22, 2019

Good morning.  It's 5F degrees here, but the sun is shining and the weatherman says temps will reach up to the mid twenties later this afternoon.  I hope so.  I just can't stand this cold.  All Pogo and I do is lay on the sofa buried beneath a blanket and an afghan.  Plus two of Pogo's blankets.  Every now and then we get up for a few minutes to take care of some necessities, then it's back under the blankets for us.

Just so you know, I'm not going to chat very long this morning because I have to be outside of the blankets in order to type.  My feet and the bottom half of my legs are almost at the popsicle stage.  I need to tuck them back under the blankets soon.

I did want to share some cute photos of Raffee, my adorable giraffe.  He has some of the cutest poses.

How can you not love this little fellow.  Of course, Pogo isn't too crazy about him, but I love him.

Gosh, would you believe that if I don't guzzle my coffee right down in two or three minutes, it's already cold?  I'm not going to make another cup until later today when maybe it will be a bit warmer.

During the night, sometime after 12:30 a.m. we lost our cable, phone (landline) and internet.  It was out until just before 5 o'clock this morning.  At least it's back on now and I'm very happy about that.  There's really not much to do when one is buried beneath the covers except to watch the TV.

Match Game is on the Game Show Channel so that's what I'm going to watch now.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day, and STAY WARM AND SAFE.

Only 5 Degrees, BRRR!

January 21, 2019

Good morning.  It's not quite seven o'clock and the temperature is 5F degrees.  During the day we may even get up to 7F degrees.  Oh joy, oh joy!  The temperature with the wind chill factor is -14F degrees.

Well, it rained most all day yesterday.  I took a nap in the afternoon and while I was sleeping, it must have rained a layer of sleet on top of everything.  Joe and a couple other dwarfs had shoveled the whole driveway, and it was covered with a layer of ice when I got up from my nap.

My car was covered with a thin layer of ice and icicles.

I just started my car to make sure she is still running, and yup!  She started right up!  I am not going out today but I do worry for everyone who has to be on the roads today.  I'm watching the weather forecast and they are saying that we have another wicked cold front coming through later in the week.  Aye yi yi yi yi!

I was asked by a reader how many beads my new bracelets took.  It all depends on the size of the beads and the size of the bracelet.  Here's what I used for the ones I already made:  Pink - 66, Green - 70, Black - 89, Lt. Blue - 77.   I also have charms to hang from one end of the bracelet.  At least, that's what I'm planning.  I may have to have some help bending the wire ends because my hands just aren't as strong as they used to be.  We'll see when my new pliers get here.

Would you like to meet a friend of mine?  This is Raffee.  He's an adorable giraffe and his special talent is massaging my neck and shoulders.

I have some cute photos of him to share, but I'll save them for tomorrow's post.  My grandson Kevin gave him to me a couple years ago.  Raffee is oh so soft and cuddly; and oh my, he makes my neck and shoulders feel sooo good!

Now I'm off to make a fresh cup of coffee.  Unfortunately, if I don't drink it up right away, it doesn't stay warm very long.  I may even heat up a bowl of pasta for Pogo and me.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day and STAY WARM!

Hugs, Edna B.

Oh, The Weather Outside Is Frightful

January 20, 2019

Good morning.  Hope you're not dealing with the nasty stuff that Harper is dumping everywhere.  It snowed here most of the night, then sometime during the night it all changed over to rain.  So this morning we can't use the snow blower.  All the wet snow has to be shoveled.

It's quite a sloppy mess outside.  Joe has been outside for about an hour an a half trying to shovel the wet snow out of the middle of the driveway and away from the stairs.  Meanwhile, the rain is coming down and making it rather uncomfortable for him.  To make matters worse, we've discovered that we don't have any ice melt.  So maybe if one of the guys goes out today, they will pick up a few bags of it for me.

Temps are 32F degrees at the moment, but tonight they will go down to 4F degrees.  Tomorrow's high is supposed  to be 5F degrees.  Yup, there will be ice everywhere!  Not a good day for anyone to be out on the roads.

Let me show you what I was up to yesterday.  I kept thinking about that memory wire that I bought recently, so I dug out a lot of beads to see what I could make.  I made four bracelets, although they are not finished.  I couldn't find my round pliers, so I could not finish off the ends.  I went online and ordered a new pair of the pliers.

Meanwhile, I took some photos of the bracelets as they are now.  I'm thinking I'll pack up the wire and some beads and take it to Florida so that we can all make bracelets together.  (me, Beth and Audrey) Here are the four bracelets I've already made.  I've taken a close up of each one so that you can see the beads better.

I'll have to go through my bead stash to see what color combinations I have that I can pack up for vacation.  I'll be taking one or two yarn projects too.  I like to have things handy to keep my hands busy.

Today I have another new quick page for you.  This one is quite appropriate for the weather this weekend.  See the fun that the wildlife are having, playing in the snow and ice.

This afternoon, I want to work on my laptop for a while and make a few more new quick pages.  I also want to make up a big pot of pasta and meat sauce.  I want to make sure that we have meals prepared for a couple of days just in case we lose the power.  I have plenty of bread, peanut butter, jelly, lunch meat, canned soups, etc.  I already cooked up two days hamburgers for Pogo, so he's all set too.

Now I want to do a bit of blog reading before starting the meat sauce.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.  Stay warm and safe!

Storm Harper Is Coast To Coast Wickedness

January 18, 2019

Good morning.  Tis a little after seven and I've been awake for quite a while.  No problem though, I just tuned in to the Liquidation Channel (ShopLC).  Oh my, as much as I love watching all the pretty things on sale, it is quite tempting to pick up the phone and place an order.  But I did not!

Some of the items on this channel are soooo pretty, and the prices just can't be beat!  The best day for shopping is Friday.  They call it Under $10 Friday because everything is $9.99, and sometimes less.  Their shipping & handling price is low too, only $2.49 per item.  For persons making lots of purchases, they have a one time shipping fee that covers all orders for the day.  If you try them out, have fun!

Now, though, I'm going to switch over to the Weather Channel.  I'm trying to get a clearer picture of what to expect for weather this weekend.  So far, I've heard everything from lots of snow, lots of ice pellets, lots of rain and a lot of maybes. Storm Harper is getting closer so maybe it will be easier to see what we'll be getting from it.

Temps right now are at 20F degrees and cloudy.  Later today we might make it up to the mid thirties before the temps drop again.  We might even get a speck of sunshine today.  We'll just have to wait and see.

Well yesterday afternoon I decided to make brownies in my new cake pan.  I have a really nice Copper Chef cake pan that I wanted to try out.  I mostly wanted to try the pocket cake.

My brownies could have used a couple more minutes in the oven, but still they tasted pretty good.  I loved the pockets on the top.  I filled these with whipped cream when I served the brownie.  I tried them out on two of the dwarfs, Joe and Mikey.  And me!  Not bad, I must say.

Oh my, the weather man is forecasting 8 to 12 inches of snow for Boston area.  Plus the sleet and ice and rain.  It is not looking so good.  I just feel bad for folks who have to be out on the road.  I'm hoping we don't get any power outages in our area.  There is bitter cold coming in right behind the storm so we definitely need our heat to stay on.

Wowsie, more than 90 million Americans are under storm watch right now.  This storm is one nasty critter!

Well, that's it for today.  So till Sunday, Y'all have a fantabulous weekend, and STAY SAFE!

Hugs, Edna B.

Only Six And A Half Weeks Till Vacation

January 17, 2019

Good morning.  Gosh, I slept a bit late today.  Sleep just wasn't in the cards for last night.  I guess my mind was just in overdrive.  It happens sometimes.  However, I did manage to fall asleep around five o'clock this morning.

Yesterday was rather quiet, but I did manage to accomplish one big thing.  I booked the airline flights for Pogo and me for our Florida trip.  Next month, I'll call to reserve the rental car.  Now I guess I'll concentrate on my tax stuff.  Once that is ready, I'll call for my appointment with the accountant.

After that, it will be glorious Spring!  I'm hoping that this year the warm temps will come early in the Spring.  I am so wanting to be able to get out and spend time on my little porch.  I'm hoping that my cousin Ellen will be well enough to be able to come and spend time out there too.

Today, the mail came and in it was my newest blog book.  This one looks really nice.  Here are some photos I took to share of the front and back covers.

I also have another of Mac's photos to share.  What a great shot, Mac, of this Japanese Black Kite.

I am really missing being able to be out taking photos of nature.  So, I'm hoping that Pogo and I will be able to get out more once the weather turns nice again.  That's one of things I like most about Florida.  There are so many beautiful things to photograph, and the weather is always nice (while we are there).

Now I  think I should read my morning blogs and get a few things done around here.  First, I will scrounge up some lunch for my hungry little guy.  He's lying next to me on the sofa, patiently waiting for me to finish this post.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

ExpireHelp Eliminate Pain

January 16, 2019

Good morning.  It's sunny this morning with temps sitting at 20F degrees.  It's supposed to warm up a bit to 39F degrees later today.  This would be nice because I have a couple errands to do.  I know Pogo would like to go for a ride.  It's been a while since he's been able to go shopping with me.

Yesterday I had an appointment with my orthopedic doctor.  I really enjoy seeing this man and talking with him.  He's honest and upfront with you.  His bedside manner is awesome.  He always speaks highly of his wife, and will refer to her often when he is explaining something.

We were discussing back braces.  He said that they used to be called corsets, but that his wife informed him that they are now called body shapers.  He said that wearing a body shaper could help to alleviate lower back pain.  This, in turn, would help to alleviate some hip and leg pain.  Hmmm, I think I just might give this a try.  I do have one, I just have never worn it.

I have a couple more photos that SIL Mac took while touring Kamakura.  I have more that I'll post another day.

Mac is half way through his time in Japan, and methinks that he is beginning to get homesick.  It's always exciting to visit other countries, but there's really no place quite like home.

Last night, I was looking through some of my crochet patterns and came across a couple great ideas for birthday and/or Christmas gifts.  I can't post photos of these patterns just yet until I decide whether or not I'm going to make them.

Today I have a new quick page for you.  I realize that some of my quick pages are a bit strange, but I never know how my pages will come out when I start working on them.  Sometimes my mind will settle on an element in a kit, then it just goes from there.  Anyway, I hope you can use this one.

I have to look up what I need  for the courts in order to not have to do jury duty.  I got my notice in the mail a couple days ago, and when I went online to register it said that I will require a letter from my doctor.  In order to spend a day at the courthouse, I will need to take my walker, my portable oxygen and an extra battery for the oxygen.  Even then, the two batteries will not last more than five hours.

On that note, I shall take my leave.  I need to figure out my menu for tonight's supper (DIL will be coming by) and I want to do a bit of blog reading before getting started on my day.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Brrrr!

January 15, 2019

Good morning.  I did not sleep very well last night. so I'll probably need a nap this afternoon.  This morning I have my doctor appointment, and I need to do a couple errands on the way home.  I sure hope it warms up some.  The temp right now is 13F degrees.  Supposedly, it will actually get up to 35F degrees later this afternoon.  That won't help me this morning though.

Tomorrow the temperature is supposed to get up to 41F degrees.  Maybe I can hold off on my errands until tomorrow.  The sun is shining this morning, but that is very deceptive.  It is very cold outside!  I just used my remote starter to start my car.  I need to make sure it is going to start when I have to go out.  It did!

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a remote starter for us?  With all the new technology that has come along, I wonder why this has not been invented yet.  I would have to be first in line to buy this wonderful product.

I don't have any new photos to share today, so I thought I might give you a couple of coloring pages from Dover.  If you like angels, these pages should be lots of fun to color.

Sometime this week I need to call the Net10 company to find out how to put more time on my portable wifi gadget that I got before my vacation last year.  It worked really good last year, so I think it would be a good idea to take it with me to Florida this year.

It's also time to start checking out the airline flights too.  Then I'll make Pogo an appointment with his doctor for his check up and his health letter for travel.  I've been holding off on getting him a haircut because it's been cold, but pretty soon he'll be needing a trim at least before we go on vacation.  I need to get busy with my tax stuff too in the next few days.  I want it all ready for my accountant before it's time to leave for Florida.

Well, that's it for today's news.  Now I want to do a bit of blog reading before I get ready to leave for my appointment.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Some Days, The Mail Is Just Not Fun

January 14, 2019

Good morning.  It's not early.  I did get up before daylight this morning, but Pogo did not want his breakfast so I went back to bed.  Today is a speck warmer than yesterday.  Tis 25F degrees, and hopefully will get up close to 31F degrees.  No sunshine though.  Tis breezy and gray outside.

Yesterday was a lazy day here.  Pogo and I spent most of the day under a blanket to stay warm.  Obviously, we got in a bit of napping.  We needed it, so it felt good.  However, I'd really like to get back on a better sleep schedule.  You know, sleep at night, play and work at day.

Well, the mail just came and it was not full of good news.  The first letter I opened was from the bank that holds the mortgage on my house.  They are saying that my house insurance is expired and because I have not provided proof of insurance, they will get me some insurance but it will cost me quite a bit more.

I go through this every year with this company.  The insurance broker told me in December that this company was notified of my insurance renewal.  The bank claims they know nothing of this.  I'm thinking that it's probably time for either a new bank or a new insurance broker.

The next letter that I opened was from my personal care doctor explaining that because I missed my last appointment, all future missed appointments without a 24 hour notice will cost me $50.00.  I called the doctor's office to find out what this was all about.

I explained that I had woke up sick that morning and had called their office right away, and that they had rescheduled my appointment to this week.  When the receptionist checked the appointment book, she could not find any appointment for this week.  She said she did not know why this was, but she would reschedule it again.  This time for the beginning of February.    I'm not really crazy about this new doctor so now I'm wondering if maybe I need to find a new doctor too.

Thank goodness for the catalogues and the magazine from AARP.  At least they were not bad news.  January and February are not great months for me.  Maybe this is the main reason I so look forward to Spring.  That and the nice weather that Spring usually brings.

Today I have a photo of the yellow afghan to share.  This one is going to be all one color.  It's going to take quite a while to finish because it's bigger than my other afghans and it is all the one color.  For some reason, the afghans seem to work up quicker when there are other colors to break up the monotony.  But it really is pretty.  (and much brighter than this photo shows)

Yesterday was a football day for lots of folks.  Our team, the Patriots, won their game.  Daughter Audrey's team, the Eagles, did not win their game.  How about you?  I'm not really much of a football fan, but I do hope our team goes for the championship again.  And wins, of course.

A little while back, I ordered a gorgeous Smoky Quartz ring from the ShopLC channel.  It was a huge discounted sale price, $30.00, so I couldn't resist it.  It arrived a couple days ago, and oh my, it is just beautiful.  It's golden brown and set in silver.  I happen to like silver the best.  The underside of the ring is finished beautifully.

Do I need this?  No, of course not.  But I do love to wear pretty rings.  And I only shop really good sales.  And Pogo says it's okay.  So that's that.

Tomorrow I have a morning appointment with my orthopedic doctor.  So, unless I get up early, I may be posting after lunch.  Just thought I'd mention it.  Today I'm trying to scrounge up a little energy so that I can get a few things done around here.

Now I think I'll do a bit of blog reading before looking for some mischief to get into.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

It's Time For Fuzzy Socks And Hoodies

January 13, 2019

Good morning.  Wowsie!  Have you been noticing how much earlier daylight begins now and how much longer daylight lasts?  This is good!  The temperature, though, is not.  It is currently 14F degrees, and it isn't supposed to be getting out of the twenties today.  Brrrr!

Last night, I had to put on my new long fuzzy socks (thank you ever so much, Kyra) to keep my tootsies warm.  These are really cool.  They go up to my knees.

Even Pogo had to wear the hood on his Patriots hoodie.  No matter how he wears his clothes, he is just so handsome!  He spent the night sleeping under my blanket.   We kept each other toasty warm.

I finally got back to my crocheting last night, and it felt rather good.  I put the last few rows on the pink afghan.  Now I just have to work in a few ends and it's all done.

I still have quite a bit of this pretty pink yarn left, so I'm thinking that I might make a shawl with it.  Unless, of course, I find some other interesting pattern.  Meanwhile, I'm working on the light yellow afghan.  I'll take a photo of this afghan to post tomorrow.

This morning, I've been watching a program about missing children.  It's on the Evine channel  They show photos of the missing children and give information about them--name, date of birth, height, weight, area last seen and who last seen with.  It also features lots of teenagers who give tips on how to stay safe.  These kids also give lots of information on how to stay safe on the internet.  It's a very interesting program.

Earlier this morning, I watched Mike Burdock on Inspiration Campmeeting on ION channel.  I love listening to his sermons.  He has such a wonderful sense of humor and is quite musically talented.   You have to get up early though, to watch this program.  It comes on around 5 a.m.

Today I have another new quick page for you.  I'm not sure what to call this one.  It's sort of steam punk, and very different.  I hope you like it.  Have fun.

Now I'm off to do a bit of blog reading, plus Jewel School is on JTV (Jewelry channel) now so I'm going to be watching that.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

It's Time To Make Lemonade

January 11, 2019

Good morning.  Yup, I'm up again before daylight.  Of course, I missed a lot of TV last night because I fell asleep so early.  Ah well, there's always re-runs.  Temps this morning are only 23F degrees but with the wind chill it feels like 16F degrees.  It looks like we won't be getting back up into the thirties until Monday or Tuesday.

I've been watching the news on TV this morning, and it's starting to sound like an old rerun.  All day long they harp about the government shutdown causing so many folks to have a hard time paying their bills.  Some of the sob stories are really tacky.

Do I feel bad for all these folks who are out of jobs and paychecks?  Yes, of course I do.  However, it's only been three weeks for them.  Where was all the hoopla when my son in law and hundreds of other electricians were laid off  and out of work with no pay checks for months, and for some, years?  Where is the hoopla for all the folks who have to live with hardships when other unions go on strike?

How did all of us get through these hardships?  We pulled together and helped each other out.  We did not go on TV and whine about how difficult life was for us.  There's an old saying "when life hands you lemons, make lemonade."  We all got together and made lemonade.

Where is all the hoopla noise for us elderly folks who have paid into social security all our lives, while Congress continues to steal our funds and threaten us with no cost of living raises and even bankruptcy?  Why aren't people up in arms about all the money that we send to other countries, when we have so many folks here who are needing that help?

How many other countries have open borders, with no concerns about illegal immigrants?  What's wrong with immigrants coming into the country legally?  Why can't Congress put on their big kid panties and start doing the jobs they were elected to do?  If they were at their desks working to help make this country safe, there would be no government shutdown.

Why is Congress still being paid?  They are not working.  Why do they still have their jobs?  In the private industry, many of them would have been replaced with new workers by now.  Maybe it's time to re-vamp the position of elected officials.  They should have term limits, reasonable salaries with no pay for no work and the same health and other benefits that the rest of us citizens have.

Maybe it's time for the folks who are making all the noise to get after their congressmen and women and tell them to get off their asses and get back to work.  It's time to get together and tell your congress people to get behind their President and help protect our country's borders.  If they would all stop acting like spoiled brats and start acting like intelligent adults, we would not be having our current problems.

People, whether or not you like our President, you really should grow up and act like responsible adults.  If you don't like him, vote for someone else next election time.  Meanwhile, act like a responsible American and get behind him while he is in office.  Stop your whining and stupid acting out.

I realize that not everyone agrees with me.  It's okay, you don't have to.  But you need to stop trying to shove your disagreements and nasty comments down my throat.  It is so disheartening to hear folks you like constantly bad mouthing our President and our country.  Once you've stated your thoughts, shut up.  Keep the rest of the nasty stuff to yourself.

Okay, nuff said.  I try to keep politics off my blog, but some days the constant hate mongering and whining really gets to me.

I realized this morning that I never posted the January page from my calendar, so I'll do that now.

A couple days ago, I did finally manage to get the order in for my new Blog book.  I'm not sure what the glitch was, but the staff at Blog2Print were very helpful.  Here's a picture of the covers for my new book.

I just tuned in QVC, and the hostess is complaining about UPS and the way they delivered her packages during the Holiday season.  She says that if she was not home, they did not leave her packages.  Then she had to track the packages down and go pick them up.  I guess she would have been happier if the packages had been left on her door steps and stolen before she got home?

She also says that she misses the cute UPS outfits for the summer with the adorable little shorts.  Excuse me?  Hold on while I go looking for some old Law & Order reruns.

I'm back now.  I think I'm going to make a fresh cup of coffee and look through some of the new catalogues that came in the mail this week.  So, till Sunday, Y'all have a fantabulous weekend.

Hugs, Edna B.

Maybe Some Snow Today?

January 10, 2019

Good morning.  Tis early, not yet daylight here in New England.  Pogo and I just finished our breakfast and he's already curled up next to me, snoozing away.  I'm turning on the Weather Channel to see what's in store for us today.

It looks like we might be having snow showers this morning with temps getting up to 33F degrees.  This will be the warmest day for us for the next several days.  Maybe we'll go out to do a couple errands this morning.  I really do need to go to the bank so that I can pay the next batch of bills that are coming due.

Last night DIL Janet came by after work, after stopping by her favorite bakery to pick up something for our dessert.  After supper, we watched our favorite program, Project Runway All Stars.  This year the contestants are winners of the program from all around the globe.

A few days ago, I mentioned the new Home Depot catalog that came in the mail.  I took this photo to show you the new look for this store.  It reminds me of a mini Ikea catalogue.  Actually, I think this is the first catalog I've seen for Home Depot.  Hmmm, maybe they are making some changes?

I don't remember if I posted a photo of the pretty glass pieces that Audrey made at her last stained glass class, so I'm posting it today.  These pieces are really beautiful Audrey.  You did a wonderful job.

We are smack dab in the middle of the flu and cold season.  I'm hoping everyone made sure to get their flu and pneumonia shots this past Fall.  A lot of folks are getting pretty sick.  I, for one, am doing my best not to catch anything.  Winter and Spring are my seasons to be quite sick with pneumonia and other respiratory problems.

A friend posted this chart on the web, and I thought I'd share it here with you.  I have to say that some of these items really surprised me.

Yesterday's mail brought me that dreaded envelope from my accountant.  It has all sorts of forms for me to fill in with information for the government.  I'm still wondering why they need to know about any changes in my personal bank account (s).  Why is this their business?  I don't fill in this part of the forms.

Pretty soon, I will have to sit down and get serious about getting all my tax stuff in order.  Oh joy, oh joy.  I kept pretty good track of expenses during the first six months of the year, then I slacked off.  Sorry, but this is not a fun area for me.   At least I will only have to go hunting for the last six months of expenses.

Someone suggested that I make a basket to put on my walker for Pogo to sit in.  I did find a pattern online that I might try to make.  It looks easy enough, but looks can fool you.

I really have to think about whether I should take my walker or Pogo's stroller to Florida.  The walker does not have a place to put things.  The basket would be for Pogo to ride in.  However, the stroller does have a handy covered basket at the bottom.  I'll have to give this some thought.

Now I think I'm going to do a bit of blog reading before deciding what we'll do today.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.
