Such A Beautiful Day Today

February 7, 2009

What a gorgeous day it was today. Almost like Spring, except there was still snow everywhere. Lots of icicles dripping, thank goodness. Maybe we can get lucky and get another day like this. I know, I know. Don't be greedy. Ah well, I can think it anyway.

Tonight I can't chat too long, because I'm supposed to be working. I got so busy earlier trying to work out my travel itinerary, and get things reserved and paid for, that I ran out of time to do my blog. At least that part is all settled.

I have no photo to share tonight, but I'll make up for it tomorrow. I was talking to daughter #1 a little while ago, and made the mistake of asking "So what have you been doing?" Her reply was "You don't want to know." That can only mean that she was stuffing or whatever some poor little dead creature. I swear I got her at a rummage sale - you know the ones where you pay $1 for a whole bag of stuff and you don't know what you're getting until you get home and empty out the bag! Good grief! She shoots em up, skins em out, cooks and serves them up, and stuffs the leftovers to look like they're still here with us. Yup, it must have been a rummage sale bag.

I think on that note, I better go check on my patient. Have a great night.

A Break In The Weather

February 6, 2009

Whew! I never thought I'd get through today unscathed by the tax man. So surprise, surprise, I was okay. I had all the figures, just have to get breakdowns for a couple of them. And I already have those figures sitting on the table waiting to take back to my accountant.

Boy do I ever feel much better now. I can't tell you how much I don't like keeping records and papers and receipts for just this occasion. It's bad enough remembering to put all the bills in one envelope and all the receipts in another. But then to have to break them all down, tally them all up, Ugh! I'd rather do housework, and I hate housework.

Today was a bit warmer, and I guess tomorrow is supposed to be swimming weather. Hopefully, it will melt the wicked icicles that are stuck on my downspouts, from the roof all the way down to the ground.

Tootsie went to the beauty parlor this afternoon, and I went shopping to check out some computers while I was waiting. I went to Best Buy, and I met up with a little old lady, God bless her, who was trying to decide between a desk top and a lap top. She followed me around for at least a half an hour trying to pick my brains as to which one would be best for her.

The ones she was looking at were power demons. Big screens, big hard drives, etc. I asked her what she kind of computer she had at home, and she said none. I asked her what she would be doing on the computer, and she said just email and checking her investments on-line. So I told her that she could probably get a much cheaper one than she was looking at that wasn't quite so powerful. She gave me a funny look and said "Are you crazy? The one on sale has so much more than the cheaper one."

Right about then, the beauty salon called to say that Tootsie was almost ready for pickup, so I gently pried myself away and left. All the way back to Petco, I was giggling - that little darling was way up in her eighties if she was a day. Don't you just love it???

Time for me to play a bit more with Tootsie, then we will put on some comfy jammies and snuggle up in bed to watch some television. Before I leave, I will share a photo of the view from my window this morning. Have a great night.

Hugs, Edna B.

Cheers For Ms. Iglesias

February 5, 2009

Boy oh boy, it was a bit nippy this morning when I went out. 2 degrees and windchill of 7 below 0. Of course, as the day went on, it warmed up quite a bit - all the way up to about 14 I think. Now the weatherman says we have 40 degree weather coming for the weekend. Sounds like New England weather, all right.

If it wasn't so cold, I might be tempted to go and get some great photos. The scenery in some places is exquisite. But I'm not so crazy about tromping around in the cold. Too bad Harry.

I was reading the obituaries today dated Feb 2, 2009, and came across a very interesting person. Ms. Rosario Iglesias, one of the world's fastest women of 90 years and more, died in Mexico City. She was 98. She was a news vendor who took up sports at the age of 80, and went on to hold five world records for her age group. In 2004, she carried the Olympic torch before tens of thousands on the featured leg of its passage through Mexico en route to Athens.

She won races in Japan, South Africa, Barbados, Britain, Australia, Canada, Puerto Rico and the United States. According to World Masters Athletics, Ms. Iglesias held world records in five categories; both the 85- and 90-and-over class at 400 and 800 meters, and the 90-and-over record at 200 meters (82.29 seconds). What an awesome lady!!!

I love reading about the wonderful things that some of our eldest elders are accomplishing. It gives one inspiration to keep going even when things look a bit bleak. When I grow up, I want to have this kind of ambition.

Before I take my leave to go play with Tootsie for a bit, I will share my contribution to the February Calendar challenge at Magickal Scraps forum. It was made with a photo I had taken at a local park a couple of years ago. Enjoy, and have a great night

Hugs, Edna B.

Back Up, Back Up

February 4, 2009

Well, today I feel much better. My whole computer is backed up on the new EHD (external hard drive), and will pick up any new stuff every night. Pretty soon, I will have a second backup in place. Then, if I can stick with that schedule, I should be okay.

Today, I need to finish up with my taxes because tomorrow I work and Friday is D-Day. Should say T-Day, but I'll be glad when it's over. At least by Friday, I'll have a list of what I missed or forgot, and then I can hunker down and find it all pronto. Hopefully, I alredy got it all.

Then my next thing to do is make my travel arrangements. It looks like I will be going the first week of March. I think I've decided not to take Tootsie with me. I'm thinking that the plane ride alone would not be too much fun for her. Add that to her picky potty habits, and she would be in stress before we got to Florida. If I decide to drive down sometime, she can go with me then. But this is not written in stone yet.

Last night I told you the story about Casseopeia and her daughter Andromeda, and today I will share the layout that I made for the Book of Shadows challenge. It's a two-pager, hope you like it. Now I'm going to take a break, and try to finish up my tax stuff. Have a great day.

Hugs, Edna B.

An Exciting Bit of Mythology

February 3, 2009

Br-r-r-r. More snow all day today. Probably into tomorrow. Please, does anybody want it? We have no place to put it anymore. I hope Spring lasts as long as Winter. Ever notice how lopsided the seasons are? Winter starts around the end of November/beginning of December and doesn't leave until April or May. We get a little bit of Spring, a bunch of hot, sticky weather, and then a little bit of Autumn. Then it's back to Winter again. I dunno, can't win for losing.

Tonight I will get my PC Cillin program renewed so that our computers are protected, and then Wayne will set up my new external drive that I just purchased. It's 1 TB, so it should be able to handle anything I put on my computer. (TB is for terebyte)

My day started with some wonderful fun and comments from my friend Kyra. She is a very good designer, and very quick. I really have to work to keep up with her, which is very good for me. Usually, she posts her layouts for the challenges as soon as the challenges are posted. This month, I managed to get one kit contribution done and posted first. Woopee!! And not a minute too soon, because she posted right after I did. And of course, her kit is absolutely gorgeous.

Stop by the Magickal Scraps forum and check out the challenges and see for yourself. While you're at it, stop by her blog http://smielkeltje.blogspot.com/ and pick up her latest kit. It's beautiful, and it's free.

Today, I finished up my layout for the template challenge. Snow Raven supplied the template, and the rest is mine. I tried using shades of one color, and a light shade of sepia for the photo.

The background paper is from my color challenge kit "Renessaince Faire" which I will probably give to you in a couple of months. Next, I must finish up my layout for the Book of Shadows challenge. We have to research and scrap a layout of a god or goddess from a different culture. At least along that vein.
Many years ago, my Michael bought me a unique Christmas present, a star named for me. So now Cassiopeia is Edna Barron. A couple years ago my son and his wife bought a star for my daughter Kerri who had recently passed on, and gave that to me for Christmas. So now Andromeda is Kerri Anne Thibault. Want to know what I find so special and coincidental? Andromeda was Cassiopeia's daughter. So all is well in the heavens and I feel good about this.
I'm back......I just had to call my son and tell him this exciting news. For some reason, I never put it all together before.
All of this was to explain that my layout will be about Casseopeia, wife of King Cepheus, and mother of Andromeda. When I was in junior high school, this was one of my favorite classes, studying astrology and mythology.
Now I must go check on Moo. He has been out shoveling all afternoon. Tonight we will treat ourselves to chinese take out for supper. M-m-m-m. Have a great evening.
Hugs, Edna B.

Happy Ground Day

February 2, 2009

Happy Ground Hog Day everybody! Did you all watch the little guy look for his shadow this morning? I was going to, but by the time I remembered, he had gone back into his hole. Oh well, so much for that.

I did a bit of clean up today on my computer, then backed up my C drive. That took care of using the computer for the next few hours, so Tootsie and I took a nap instead. Tomorrow, I have to finish up my tax stuff because it is due this week at the accountant's office. Oh joy, oh joy!

Tonight I need to play some more catch up with the challenges, etc. for the Magickal Scraps forum. Aren't you lucky? It means I can't stay and chat very long. I would like to share the preview for the posting bonus for the Inspiration challenge. All you have to do is participate in the challenge, and post a layout. Voila! That simple. Here is the picture I posted to give you inspiration for your layout. It's a lovely old fashioned valentine that I got from Dover Publishing.

Time to say good night, have lots of work to do. Have a great night. The bonus preview is below.
Hugs, Edna B.

February & A Kit For You

February 1, 2009

Wow, it's already the first day of February. Can you believe this? Before you know it we'll be basking in beautiful, funtastic Spring. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!!

I have spent a good part of the day trying to recover files and things that I lost. It's a very long and tedious job. Actually, the day was spent on just one large file. As I went through it, I found that most of the folders were empty. So I made a list, and went to find them again. I guess I will just have to pick a file a day.

In between, I kept taking little breaks to go play ball with Tootsie. She gets annoyed waiting for me and sometimes does things to annoy me. Like pee on the carpet because I took so long getting in there to play. This is what she did this afternoon, so that took care of playing ball until tomorrow. Will she ever learn?

I often wonder what happened to this little dog during the first 6 months of her life. She was so timid when I got her, and she had some of the weirdest habits. Like - she won't go potty outdoors. No No! Absolutely not! She has her own little potty area in the panty with little blue chux to go on. If you don't change the chux right away as soon as it is soiled, she will finish up the job somewhere else. That will teach me!!

When she does something bad, she comes to tell me about it. (This one I couldn't ever figure out!) Before you can scold her, she already has her head hanging down with a soulful look on it. Geesh! She makes it tough for me to punish her. I usually just scold her and say "Bad Girl," but she already knows this. And of course, I've already told you about her aromatic habits. Phew! But through all this, she mine and I love her.

I have lots to do before I can shut off this computer for the day, so let me post your final Anniversary freebie. It's a kit that I call "Floral Scent." There are three parts that I broke up to make the downloading easier. I hope you like it. Enjoy and have a great night.

Hugs, Edna B.
