It's Finally Garden Season!

April 7, 2014

Good morning.  Gosh, it feels so good to be home after spending the night with the Queen of Crabbiness.  Folks, I know I can be a crabby old fool sometimes, but the Mrs takes the cake!  I just hope that when I am her age I am not so unpleasant all the time.

We used to have more people than we needed at work, but now we have gone past "bare bones".  Ms Crabapples is chasing everyone away with her terrible behavior.  If one us remaining ladies drops just one of our shifts, there will be no one to take it over.  That's sad.

On to more fun stuff.  The sun is shining beautifully, and today's temp is supposed to around 59F and partly cloudy with rain tonight and thunderstorms tomorrow morning.  Oh well, at least it's warmer.

I have a fun photo to share this morning.  Audrey was out in the field near her yard and was surprised by some turkeys.  She managed to get a photo just as they were flying away.  Great shot, Audrey!

I also thought I would share some photos of the assorted bird families at our local park.  Today I'll start with my favorite family.  These ducks are always together, and I think they are just gorgeous!  In this first photo, I've put a yellow circle around this family, followed by individual photos of each of them.

Aren't they just beautiful?  They seem like such a happy family.  I'll crop a few more photos of other families to share tomorrow.

Yesterday, Joe started cleaning out the gardens.  There are a lot of plants coming up through the ground, and the daffodils will most likely be the first to bloom.   We have a large shady spot that Joe is preparing so that we can plant some wildflowers there to add a little more color to the yard.  It will be so nice to see color in that part of the yard.

This afternoon, we will work on the garden on the other side of the house.  Pretty soon we can bring out the lawn chairs and set up Pogo's play tent.  I am just itching to take a trip to the Home Depot Lawn and Garden Center.  I've been staying away because it has been too cool for planting, but I think now is a good time to be picking out some new plants.

I also want to put down some new grass seed.   It's wonderful to look out and see green lawn on both sides of the house.  We need to pick up some new fencing for our veggie garden too.  I have marigold seeds to plant and a large bottle of cayenne papper to help keep the critters out of the garden this year.

Now I'm going to see what kind of mischief Pogo and I can get into today.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Picture me flat on my back, arms flung out and loud snoring ... that is where I would like to be right now, but, of course, my furbaby alarm clocks had other idea's about where I should be. Izzi and I did really well this weekend, but both of us are beat .. that is the word for very tired and ache all over.

The salt man is coming with salt for our softener this morning then I am off to Lake Zuich to get my vacuum cleaner fixed and then lunch with my dear friend who lives out that way. I did a little yard work this morning and will try to do more before I leave. Tonight, I will help my daughter with her packing ... she is moving up stairs and my son is movimg into the apartment ... There are some fun things in the offing here, but a lot of hard work first.

Sorry about Miss Crabiness ... age can do that to you and she won't even remember so she can feel bad about it ... hmmmm . That is probably why it is so easy for her to be that way again and again. I understand your frustration ... wish you were in a position to retire fully.

I love your ducks and how cool a black mallard ... wonder how that happened. I think it is cool that the two of them stay together ... do they ever have a bunch of little ducklings ... I would be curious to see if the black gets passed on. Very cool, Edna. Guess I better get my rear into gear ... much to do, ugh! You have a nice day with Pogo and at the Garden Center ... sounds like fun.

They are a lovely family of ducks, I can see why you watch them.

Isn't it thrilling each year to begin the preparation for the gardens?

There's nothing quite like spring!

Oh, Edna, I’m so sorry the Mrs is being “uber-crabby!” Doesn’t she understand she’s scaring off the very people she needs and needs to be kind to? You won’t be unpleasant because you know how unpleasant feels when you’re on the receiving end!

Audrey’s turkey shot is great!

You’ve been busy with fun stuff! I love the birds and the ducks are beautiful! I love the green and the green sheen. Gardening is one of the best things in spring. I’m enjoying my crocuses and the narcissus will be blooming soon. All the color in your yard will be grand and I can’t wait to see your pictures when things start blooming!

I’m already done with the April rain, but at least it isn’t snow! I’m more likely to freeze than melt!

Enjoy the nicer weather until the rain comes!

Hugs, Nani

The Mrs. is becoming a kind of problem, isn;t she?
it's sad that because of her crabbiness, people will not come anymore for a shift take over.
Does the Mrs. rememeber the next day or so that she wasn't behaving so nice? It happens that they don;t even know they are so cabby, sad but true.
It though doesn;t makes it easier for you.
When will you be able to retire, I think that you really should consider that.
The duck family looks marvellous!
Oh and you actually can start in your garden!
I will send you some links, where you can have some information about all the kind of plants you can grow in shade and you will be surprised to see how many of them there are, just with foliage of all kind but also a lot that will have lovely flowers!
Have a fantastic day, forget about the Mrs and concentrate on plants flowers and good weather LOL!
