Goodness, It's October Already!

October 1, 2014

Good morning.  Today is looking just like yesterday.  Cool, gray and wet.  On a positive note, we really do need the rain.   Have you noticed that it is already October?  Gosh, the year is going by so quickly.

It's time to start thinking about Halloween costumes, and for some us it's time to plan our big night ride.  Gosh, I hope it doesn't rain that night.  I'm getting too old to be out riding around in the wet, cold weather.  It's not good for the bones.

Speaking of evening rides, here's a photo of an adorable lady who keeps watch over my front door.  Daughter Deanne found her for me.  I think she looks a lot like me in my younger days.  Isn't she just precious?

Yesterday was a rather uneventful day.  Pogo and I went out to do a couple of errands, and then I spent the afternoon making phone calls about various things.  In the evening, I didn't feel like crocheting, so it was quite late before I picked it up and put on a few more rows.  Sad to say, I did not finish the afghan before September was done.   Hmmm, maybe tonight.

Before I forget, here's the October page from my calendar.  I miss watching the morning mists and the wildlife in this field.

I guess missing things as they were is part of making life changes.  Even though I miss a lot of what was when I was working, I do enjoy being home all the time.  It just takes time to get used to the daily differences.  Thank goodness I have Pogo to keep me busy and focused on my days.

DIL Janet will be stopping by this afternoon after work, so I really should start thinking about what's for our supper.  It will be interesting to see how she is getting along with her new smart phone.  Up to now I was thinking that it was just me who wasn't as smart as the phone, but now I find that lots of us grownups are in the same boat.

There is a cell phone out there just for us "seniors".  It has huge numbers on it and only makes and takes phone calls.  This is really cool for some folks, but it certainly takes all the fun out of using the phone for the rest of us.  This is where all the "Dummy" and "Visually Learn" books come in handy.  They are a godsend for folks like me.

I'm running out of morning and the mailman is here with a handful of envelopes.  It's time for me to get busy here.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a most wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Hi Edna! My company’s gone and I’m back; and I’ll be reading back and forward on your blog until I catch up! :)

We had a cold and dreary day yesterday and today too. I’m not ready for this yet! I hope we get decent weather for Halloween this year too! They ended up postponing trick or treating to a day we were out of town. 150 candy bags went to kids at school through donation, but I didn’t get to enjoy kids in their costumes.

When I flipped my calendar this morning I realized it definitely works with a photograph for the inspiration challenge at Gotta Pixel so your calendar may be the subject of scrapbook journaling this month!

I’ve had my smart phone for just over 2 months and I still say “I have a phone that’s smarter than me.” Last week Rina was here for just under 4 days and I lost count of the times I hear “Here, let me show you, Nana” about the phone. I’m doing well with the tablet, but I don’t know why I need a phone that does so many things I don’t use. Humph.

I do like that David and I can always find the nearest Cracker Barrel when we travel now! :)
I’m going to finish what looks like it may be a very short stint as a Pirates fan now.

Hugs to you and Pogo, Nani

Oh yes, it is time to think about your night ride on the broom again LL.
Love the scarecrow and although you may think it looks like you in your early days, I believe you were much more beautiful to look at.
Not having to go to work is great too, just need some adaptation and change of day routine, you will get the hang of it.
Have a lovely time with Janet.

It does take time to acclimate to the changes of staying home instead of going to work. But it's a journey worth taking!
