A Super Cool Visitor

July 10, 2016

Good morning.  Tis gray and foggy this morning.  The weather forecast is for some sun and clouds today with temps in the low 70's.  Very comfortable for breathing and sitting out on the porch.  (as long as it isn't raining)

Speaking of the porch, later today I will put Pogo's play yard away and put my chairs back in the trunk of my car.  The plant stand and the new doormat will also go back in the trunk.  But just for a little while.  The crew will be back here in the morning to finish working on the porch.  Here's a photo of my cute new doormat.

*****I'm back.  Pogo spotted Joe making his coffee out in the kitchen, and insisted on having his turkey treat right then and there.  So we went out to the laundry room so that my little guy could have his morning treat.

Yesterday morning, we had a visitor here in the yard.  Instead of hiding in the trees, it decided to sit on a corner on the roof.  Meanwhile, all the little birds and critters scattered for cover.  My friend Andrea says this is a Red Tail Hawk.  Even though I'd rather it went hunting for lunch in another yard, it really is a beautiful bird.

With these cooler temps, I've picked up my crocheting again, and now there are only ten more rows to go and the scarlet afghan will be finished.  I was thinking I might sit out on the porch today and crochet for a bit, but it has been sprinkling on and off.  Hmmm, I may have to rethink that.  A little bit of sun just came creeping across my yard.  Gosh, you just never know what's up with this weather.

With all the violence on the news lately, did anyone catch any news of the oldest living person who just passed away at the age of 130?  No?  I didn't think so.  I didn't catch all of the story either.  But wow!  That's quite an age to live to!  God bless her soul.

Well, now it's time for me to see what sort of mischief I can get into today.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Pogo And I Are Enjoying Our Porch

July 8, 2016

Good morning.  Tis a bit gray and damp at the moment, but it feels good.  The weather forecast says that it will be cloudy with bits of rain and temps in the 70's for about four days.  I have to say that is going to feel oh so good.  But of course, after that, the temps will jump back up to the 80's and 90's.  Ah well, it is summer.

Yesterday morning, grandson Kevin and his lovely girl friend came by, and we all (Pogo too) went to visit with Aunt Lucy.  Auntie was thrilled to see the kids, and Pogo was excited for a chance to explore the whole apartment looking for the cat.  The cat was smart though, and stayed up on a bed where Pogo could not see or reach her.

Aunt Lucy loved her new address book, and we had a wonderful time chatting and laughing.  Later, on the way home, we realized that the beach where the kids go is right down the street from Aunt Lucy's house.  Hmmm, I'm getting ideas.  When the kids go to the beach, they could drop me off at Auntie's house, and pick me up when they are ready to go home.  Hmm, I'll keep that in mind.

In the afternoon, Joe helped me set up Pogo's play yard on the porch.  This is only temporary because Pogo can walk right through the railing slats.  Once the screen is all attached, we won't need the play yard.  Then I got the chairs from my car, along with the little table and the plant stand, and set them on the porch.  Pogo and I sat out there for a while, just enjoying the breeze and the birds and small critters.

I set the big pot with the pink petunias on the plant stand.  Oh yeah, this is going to be really nice once it's all finished.  I even have this cute little welcome sign to hang over the steps.

I almost forgot, I had bought a new welcome mat, and set it by the porch door.  Gosh, it really does look nice.  The new plant hangers that I had ordered were delivered, so now I'm just about all ready for when the porch is finished.  I'll have to take photos when everything is done.

My daughter Deanne sent this cartoon to me and I thought I would share it.  Sad to say, age brings some of us these wicked turkey flaps on our arms.  A few years ago, one of my great grandsons thought they were awesome big muscles.  I was not about to tell him otherwise.  This cartoon sort of brought back memories of that day.

Today, Pogo and I will just relax and maybe hang out on our porch for a bit.  Later, I'll take Joe grocery shopping.  Who knows, maybe I'll even do a load of laundry.  I'm feeling rather happy today.  Well, that's it for this morning.  So, till Sunday, Y'all have a magnificent weekend.

It's Beginning To Look Like A Porch

July 7, 2016

Good morning.  I do believe it's going to be another sticky warm day.  Although, the weather report says it won't be as sizzling as yesterday was.  Well, at least that's good.

This morning, grandson Kevin will be here to pick up Pogo and me, and we're going to visit with Aunt Lucy.  She was mentioning a while ago that she would like a new address book.  I found a really nice one on Amazon for her that I will bring with me today.  It has large print and a bigger space to write the names and addresses on.  I hope she likes it.

Well, yesterday the workers showed up around 7:15 a.m. to work on the porch.  I went out to the bank and to do a couple errands around 10 a.m. and told the men that I would be back in a couple hours.  I got back a few minutes after 12 noon, and they had already packed up and gone home.  I have yet to see these guys work an eight hour day.

However, most of the framing on the porch is done.  Now I will pick up a wood sealer, and hopefully get it on all the wood and dried before Monday.  Hmmm, maybe Joe will help me with this.  Here's a photo of the progress on the porch.

All our tiger lilies are starting to bloom now.  Gosh, I love all the gorgeous orange color.  It's so cheery and welcoming.

While I was out yesterday, I picked up a few more things for the porch.  I found a cute little "Welcome" sign to put over the open stairway, and a couple of comfortable chairs to sit on.  I also found a wonderful welcome mat with doggie paws all over it.  I even picked up a couple small plants to put on the top of the  railing.  Next, I think I'd like to get a grass carpet for the floor.  Am I having  fun?  Why, yes I am!!

The rest of the day, Pogo and I stayed indoors in front of the fans, trying to keep cool.  Every now and then I would put the A/C on to cool the room down.  I don't leave it on for very long, because I don't want to get sick.  The last time I sat too long in a room with the A/C going, I got a bad cold that turned to pneumonia.  My daughter Audrey has the same problem with the A/C.

Enough of my babbling.  I have another quick page for you.  This one features a lovely waterfall.  Oh my, wouldn't I like to be sitting near that waterfall right now!!  Enjoy.

Now it's time for me to get dressed so that I'll be ready when Kevin gets here.  I'm looking forward to this visit.  So, till tomorrow, Y' all have a magnificent day.

Another Busy Day Around Here

July 6, 2016

Good morning.  Tis another gorgeous summer day, just a tad bit warm for my liking.  But then, I'm lucky enough to have air conditioning in my car and my house for when it gets too hot for breathing.  It's only 6:40 a.m, but one has to get up early to be dressed before the contractors get here at 7 a.m.

The guys got quite a lot done yesterday, but I have to say that they could have been almost finished by now if they would put in an eight hour work day.  Friday they only worked about four hours, and yesterday they worked maybe five and a half hours.  They'll be here today (I don't know for how long) and then they won't be back until next Monday.  I was promised that when they get here next week, they will stay until the job is finished.  Let's hope!!

Here's the crew working yesterday even though it was raining lightly all morning.  Actually, the rain felt quite refreshing.

Late morning, a big truck arrived, bringing in a dumpster for all the refuse.  The dumpster was tucked in under the tall trees.

Early afternoon, Deanne and Kevin stopped by on their way to drop off Kevin's car to the Jiffy Lube.  So far, the car seems to be running pretty good.  And very quiet, I must say.

Shortly after that, the building crew packed up and headed home.  Till tomorrow.  They did get quite a bit done, but another hour or so might have seen the porch roof finished.  Ah well, it will be next week soon enough.

While the guys were working, I noticed that another of our lilies blossomed.  This one is a pretty yellow, sort of a deep lemon yellow.

Pretty soon, I'll have to shut the door.  Pogo won't be happy about that, but if I don't close it, he will be constantly barking at the noises outside.  I have to admit though, he has been very good through all of these disruptions.

Later this morning, Pogo and I will go to the bank.  Got to pay these guys.  Then we'll have to decide what to make for supper.  DIL Janet will be coming by later after work.  I really enjoy these Wednesday evenings with her.

Tomorrow, grandson Kevin is going to take me to visit with Aunt Lucy.  At least that's the plan right now.  Now it's time for me to get busy here.  The crew will be here momentarily.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

A Little Rain Isn't Slowing The Work

July 5, 2016

Good morning.  Tis a bit gray and drizzly here in my little part of New England, but the contractors are here working on my porch anyway.  This was definitely a surprise.  I rather thought I would be getting a phone call to reschedule because of the rain.  Ah well, as long as no one gets hurt, I'm okay with them working in the drizzle.

Except for the few neighbors who have no respect for the laws of the town, it was a nice quiet weekend for Pogo and me.  A few neighbors had bought their own fireworks and were setting them off last night and the night before.  We only live a few doors from a veterinary hospital, and I'm sure all the animals who were being boarded or hospitalized overnight were traumatized by the noise.  The fireworks were being shot off only a couple of doors away.

Grandson Kevin's car died a week or so ago, and he's been looking around for another car.  Rather, I should say, an affordable car.  He and his folks found a really nice one, but it did need a little work.  So SIL Eddie and Kevin spent yesterday working on the new car.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all is well with it now.

Pogo and I went shopping yesterday at The Christmas Tree store.  Oh my, so many goodies to choose from.  I ended up buying a plant stand and a small glass topped table for the new porch.  I also bought a couple of large silk flowers to put up on the wall (side of house).  Unfortunately, I have no place to put these things so I've left them in car for now.  Next week, they can go on the porch.

My friend Beth posted a scrap page on Facebook that features Pogo, so of course I copied it to share here.  My little guy looks so handsome, doesn't he?  Thanks Beth, I love it!

I think I mentioned a while back that we had planted a seedling tree from the Red Japanese Maple in the garden on the other side of the house.  For a while, it wasn't doing so good, but now it is looking really nice.  Now if can just make it through next Winter, I'll be very happy with it.

There's not much more news, so I think I'll meander outside and see what's happening with the porch.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Happy Fourth Of July

July 4, 2016

Good morning.  Happy Fourth of July to everyone.  If it's not a holiday for you, then Happy Sunday.  It's rather early yet, so the sun isn't shining down on us yet.  Oops, I spoke too soon.  It's working it's way up in the sky overhead right now.  The weather forecast for tomorrow says rain, but I hope not.  The construction crew is supposed to be back here tomorrow to work on my porch.

Yesterday, Pogo and I did not go shopping.  Instead we had ourselves a nice lazy day.  It was much cooler indoors than outside.  I even fit in a nice nap in the afternoon.  I did call Aunt Lucy, but she has one of her sons and his girlfriend visiting this week.  I'm glad for her, and we'll do our shopping trip another day.

We have a lot of this pretty plant popping up in one of the gardens, so I looked it up on Google to find out what it is.  It's part of the Bellflower family, and it's quite pretty.

In the lawn on the new porch side of the house and in the little garden by the shed there is a pretty little yellow ground flower called Creeping Buttercup.  It's like a little ray of sunshine.

I'd still like to take a ride to The Christmas Tree store, so maybe Pogo and I will do that this morning after he gets his turkey treat from Joe.  I'll check on Google to see when the store opens today.  Pogo and I are due for a fun outing.  Maybe one of the lady dwarfs would like to go with us.  I'll ask.

I need to pick up a couple new cookie baking sheets for the house.  Yesterday Joe was making cookies, and he put all the pieces of cookie dough on the one baking sheet.  Yup, you guessed it!  Just one big cookie!  At least it was tasty.

Because today is a holiday, I have another quick page for you.   I love the patriotic designs.  I hope you do too.

A Busy Weekend

July 3, 2016

Good morning.  Tis a wee bit early, not even six a.m. yet.  But because I had me a nice nap yesterday afternoon, I lost a little sleep this morning.  No biggie.  I was up super early Friday morning, and I stayed up very late that night so that I could wish my daughter  a Happy Birthday at 12:01 a.m.

Kevin and Jasmine had gone to a movie that started at midnight, so Mom (Deanne) was waiting up for them to come in.  Why did they pick such a late movie?  Because Kevin doesn't get out of work until 11 p.m.

Friday was a wicked busy day here.  Between the contractors, Pogo's salon appointment, grocery shopping and a few other errands that had to be done, there was not much time for rest.  Here's a photo of the guys starting work on my new porch.

Joe came home early from work, and sat in our big chair under the trees and watched the guys as they worked.  My brother built this chair years ago for a Haunted House display, and it's a favorite place for the guys to sit out and relax.

Yesterday, while Joe cleaned up a lot of the pine needles and birdseed shells, Pogo sat on the new porch and watched.  I do believe my little guy loves this new porch (and it's not even done yet).  Doesn't he look ever so handsome after his trip to the beauty salon?

The view from the porch will be awesome.  By late morning, this is what it looks like when you look up into the trees.  Simply gorgeous!

Today I may take a ride to The Christmas Tree Store to see what they have for porch furniture.  I'm looking for a plant stand, a couple of ceiling hooks to hang plants from, a small table and maybe a couple of chairs.  I am so looking forward to this shopping trip.

Aunt Lucy has had company this past week, so maybe I'll call to see if her company has gone yet.  If they have, maybe she would like to go shopping too.  We'll see.  Now I think I'll see what I can rustle up for breakfast.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.
