Good morning. Tis a bit on the gray side today. The temp is at 55F degrees with bits of light rain. Later the temps will rise to the upper sixties with sunshine. Well, at least that's what my weather app says.
Well, yesterday Joe stopped by WalMart on his way home from work and picked up my small grocery order. I have to say that everything I ordered was there and with no substitutions. Awesome! Of course, I don't order anything that has an expiration date to be concerned about. Like dairy products, meat, fresh veggies, etc. Plus I only order things that I've already had a chance to check the nutrition facts for sodium content.
I borrowed an interesting image from the web to share. Did you know this already? I did not. But when you think about it, it really does make sense.
One of my favorite TV programs, Shop LC, has been having a huge warehouse clearance sale. It's a week long sale so you know what I've been watching. Nope, I haven't bought anything, but I'm enjoying watching all the wonderful bargains. They've had quite a nice mix of items. Jewelry, clothes, housewares, etc.
Yesterday I had planned on spending time clearing out all my junk mail. However, a phone call wondering if I was okay changed my plans. It seems my daughter Deanne had been texting me all through the night and the morning and was getting no response from me. Huh? After much checking, it was decided that the problem was with my phone. However we could not figure out how to fix it.
The evening before, my grandson Bobby and Amber were in the kids' bedroom tucking them into bed. However, the door had closed and was locked from the other side and they could not get out of the room. Not wanting to kick the door open and break it, Bobby decided to go out a window and come back in through the front door. (Did I mention that they live on the second floor?)
OOPS! His Super Dad cape did not work and when he hit the ground, he landed on his ankle and broke it all to pieces. He did try to set his ankle and splint it, but then Deanne got a call to pick him up and take him to the hospital. It was a really nasty break and would require surgery to put in a rod and pin (s), etc. Hours later, he was admitted and moved to a room to be scheduled for surgery later in the day.
They operated yesterday afternoon, and Deanne is keeping me updated. Bobby, I'm praying that the surgery went well and that you mend and heal quickly. Meema loves you Bob O Link.
Meanwhile, Audrey and I were texting back and forth (and calling on the land line phone) to see if maybe she could figure out how to fix my cell phone. We're not sure what was done (or not done) but after a couple hours, my phone was working and my text messages were back to normal.
When the mail came yesterday, there was a box containing another of my catalogue orders. After checking everything, I spent some time reading a new book that I had ordered for me. Oh my, what fun I was having. The book is about rock painting.
Doesn't this look like fun? One of the projects in the book really caught my interest and I'd like to try making it. It's a nativity set. There are more pieces than what is shown in this picture, but this is the basic set. Isn't this pretty?
I went online to price the paints, spray, etc. Depending on how many paints you wanted to buy, the price is really not very expensive. And the book shows you what type of stones to use and step by step instruction on how to paint each figure. You can even buy the stones online. I priced them too and they weren't expensive either. I think once I get finished with my cards and calendars and my holiday shopping, I'm wanting to try to make the nativity set.
So, I guess today I'll attempt to tackle that pile of junk mail again. Tomorrow morning, Pogo has an early appointment (9 a.m.) with the eye doctor. My hope is that his cataracts can be removed without any after effects. So, I won't be blogging until probably after lunch.
Now I'm off to make a fresh cup of coffee and do a bit of blog reading. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous dayl

Oh What A Beautiful Day!
October 7, 2019
Good morning. What a lovely surprise we had with the overnight temps. They stayed in the sixties all night long. This morning's temp is 68F degrees, and later this afternoon it should climb to the mid seventies. I can really dig this! Of course, I know that by Wednesday, all our day temps will only get up into the low fifties. So, today is to be enjoyed. It's a gift.
I woke up early this morning, at 4 a.m. So I got up and finished packing a bag for Good Will, Every little bit helps. Afterwards, I went back to sleep for a few more winks. I thought Pogo might like to have something to eat while I was up, but he was busy snoring softly in dreamland.
Yesterday I promised to take a photo of the label that came with my new tiny rose plant. The label was not very clear so I did the best I could. If this plant grows and actually looks like this, it will be awesome. Of course, with me as the gardener that's a big if.
My goldfish plant is not doing so good. I don't know if it is me or if it doesn't do well indoors. Most likely it's me. My green thumb done died years ago.
I have quite a few blankets put away in large plastic zip up bags. I think before I put them in the bag for Good Will, I'll call around to see if an animal shelter wants them. All animals love to curl up in blankets.
Last evening, I went online to WalMart and placed an order to be picked up later this afternoon. Joe said he would pick it up on his way home from work. I really only needed water, but I added a few items to bring the order up to the minimum. One of the things that I added was some doggie food for Pogo. I found one that he will eat every now and then so I've decided that it would be best to keep some of it on hand.
Did I mention that I have another tiny tomato trying to grow on what's left of my tomato plant? Yup, there is one gorgeous tiny tomato, and a couple more yellow flowers. It must be the cooler temps that is coaxing it to bloom and grow. We'll see. Anyway, here's a photo that I took.
I was keeping up with the junk mail as it came in the door, but when I got sick a while back, I just started tossing it all in a pile. That pile is now quite large, so I think that will be my project for today. I'll go through it and sort it into two piles, recycle and shred. It will be good to see it all gone.
Last evening I made a pan of meat sauce and then cooked some pasta. Half the sauce went to the pasta and the other half is in the freezer. I only cook half a pound of pasta at a time now. Then I split that into two bowls. One for supper and one for another meal. I must say, it all came out quite tasty.
I only use diced tomatoes and tomato paste to make my sauce. Once I mix it all into the cooked hamburg, if it is too thick I add some water. Not too much. Just enough so that it isn't too thick. For seasoning I add onion powder and garlic powder and sometimes an Italian seasoning. No salt, of course. You can use any seasoning that you prefer.
While surfing the web the other night, I came across this tasty recipe for a Christmas punch. Actually, I think it would taste really good anytime. If you did not have to drive anywhere, you could even add a touch of your favorite alcoholic beverage. Mmmm!
Now I'm going to drink my coffee and do a bit of blog reading. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.
Hugs, Edna B.

Memories Of The "Wish Book"
October 6, 2019
Good morning. My goodness, tis 41F degrees right now. Brrr. What happened to Fall? My weather app says that temps will get up to maybe the mid sixties later this afternoon before dropping back down. The sun is shining though, so that's a plus.
Well, I got one tiny package yesterday, but it was not to be a gift. It's a tiny rosebush that I ordered. It has three different colored roses in it (so it says) and it is tiny so I can plant it in a pot and keep it indoors till next Spring. I'll have to take a photo to show the different colors in this plant. I hope it makes it till Spring. I' m not doing so good with my goldfish plant.
I came across this image on the web and just had to download it. Oh my, the memories it brings!
Do you remember how we waited for this "Wish Book" every year? It would arrive, I think, around September or October. Once everyone was in bed and asleep at night, I would sit down with this wish book and make out my Christmas order. The next day I would send off my order and wait for it to be ready for pickup at the store.
Then I would wait again for everyone to be asleep at night, and wrap and tag everything and tuck it all away in a closet. Now all I had to do was make my payments every week and it would all be paid for before Christmas.
Sears and J.C. Penny were my go to catalogues. They had everything we needed and it was all priced reasonably so that we could afford it. All that changed many years later. Such a shame. I really miss these wonderful old catalogues. (and stores)
My daughter Audrey posted this on FaceBook, and of course I had to borrow it to share with you here.
What an awesome idea for some of the ladies in my riding group. Much as I would love to join in on the fun, my last attempts at riding on a motorized object did not turn out so good. I guess Pogo and I will have to stick with my trusty old broom. It has done us well all these years. I imagine Audrey will have one these new fangled rides. Who knows? Maybe if there is room on the back of it she'll let me and Pogo hop a ride with her? Hmmmm.
These last couple of days have been rather lazy for me. I did, however, do a few loads of laundry. That, plus cooking and washing some dishes, was the extent of my achievements. Yesterday I never even went on my laptop to check my email or do any blog reading. I'll have to do that when I finish typing this post.
This morning I did take some meat out of the freezer to thaw. Later I'll make some meat sauce for pasta. This last time that I did my grocery shopping, I made sure to pick up some frozen meals that contained at least a daily minimum of sodium. This way, I'll be sure to get my minimum every day.
All year long I've been being very good and getting rid of all the cardboard boxes that come in. Now that I need a few of them, I don't have them. Go figure! Ah well, it's too early to mail any of the holiday packages anyway so I'll manage. Starting next week though, I want to start packaging up whatever I can and set it aside till it is mailing time.
Do you buy extra bread and freeze it? I do, but I never thought to do this. I'll have to give it a try on the next loaf that I put in the freezer.
Before I get started on this lovely new day, let me post another "oldie but goodie" quick page. I hope you can use it.

I Got My Flu Shot. Did You?
October 4, 2019
Good morning. The sun is peeking in and out and the temperature is at 59F degrees. One more degree and we should hit our high for today. Our overnight temps are rally dipping down into the cold zone. Tonight we should reach down into the upper thirties. Brrrr!
Well, yesterday the mail brought me two more packages of things that I had ordered from catalogues. One item was a really pretty housecoat and surprise, surprise, it fit me! I don't usually order clothing from catalogues because their sizes aren't usually the same as our store sizes. So this was a really nice surprise.
Deanne came by and took me to do a few errands yesterday. First stop was the bank so now I can pay some more bills. Then it was on to WalMart to get my flu shot and some groceries. The pharmacist told me to use my arm a lot during the day because it was going to be a bit sore. She was absolutely right! It stopped hurting sometime during the wee hours of the night.
While we were there, we found some wonderful bargains and I was able to cross another name off my shopping gift list. Little by little, I'm getting there. Today I'm hoping to get that gift wrapped and packaged and ready for mailing.
It's time for me to start getting serious about my new Christmas card too. I have most of the photos ready for my new calendar, but I haven't spent any time working on the card. In another month, I should be getting ready to order both of these items from the printer. Aye yi yi, I'm running out of year!
Every now and then, I run across this item on the web and I mean to go online and order it. Well, this week I'm going to get me one. If you have a pet at home, this is a must have. I checked on Amazon, and these start at $6.79. You get the tag to keep on your key chain, and a card to keep in your wallet. You can also find these on Ebay starting at $1.49.
Boo Hoo, I just brought in the mail and there are no packages there. I was hoping that more of my orders would be here by now. Oh well, all in good time.
In answer to whether I had the pizza or the pasta the night, I chose the pasta. Last night, I enjoyed a spinach pizza. I was good, I only ate two thirds of it and saved the last piece for today's lunch. I did good this time and did not drop my pizza on the floor. Yea!!!!!
Before I go, here's another image that I borrowed from the web. It's such a wonderful idea and it saves the lives of so many of our wildlife.
Now I'm off to do a bit of blog reading. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Happy Birthday Jack
October 3, 2019
Good morning. Tis fifty degrees and cloudy this morning. According to my weather app, it won't be getting much warmer today, maybe just a few degrees. Last night I had to put the heat on. I don't want Pogo and me getting sick because it's cold.
Today is Jack Jack's birthday. I think he's fifteen now. (My memory isn't always up to par) My goodness, where have all the years gone? Jack, I hope you have an awesome day filled with laughter and love. Meema loves you.
Deanne is coming by later this morning to take me out to do errands. I want to get my flu shot while we're out. All my other shots are up to date. I'm trying to stay as healthy as possible. My daughter Audrey will be coming for a week towards the end of the month. While she is here, all us girls are going to spend one evening at the Paris Cabaret to see Carousel. Jazzy isn't in this production, but it's still going to be a fun night out.
Yesterday I had trouble getting my energy level up to work on filling bags for Good Will. However, by evening, I finally got started and managed to fill up two bags and start another one. Then I spent some time on my computer trying to remember how to copy a music CD. It took a while, but I finally figured it out. I bought a couple music CD's for my daughter Laura Jean, and I wanted to keep a copy for myself.
While I was playing on the computer, I played a video CD that my friend Kyra sent to me almost twelve years ago. It was full of short videos of various types of art and photos. I'd almost forgotten how interesting this CD was. Thank you Kyra for another fun evening.
Did I mention that the computer is my old desk top? It still works so I've hung on to it. It comes in handy when I want to print anything. This one is connected to my printer. It's also good for making music and photo CD's.
This morning Pogo tried to wake me up at 4 a.m. to make some breakfast. I told him "no way" and "to go back to bed." I did get up at seven and cook us some bacon and eggs. I broke up a strip of bacon and cut up some egg into a bowl and gave it to Pogo. I wasn't sure he would eat it, but he did. Sometimes, he'll eat what I'm eating. Don't tell him, but last week I actually gave him doggie food and he ate it. Now that actually surprised me!
I've borrowed a couple images from the web to share. This one seems to explain my ability to remember things lately.
And this one explains why it's okay not to do very much housework. So far, no one has broken in to do me bodily harm, but at least I'm ready.
And last, but not least, I love this one with the Cardinal. We have them here in my yard and they really are beautiful. And yes, I do thank God for every single day of my life.
Now I'm off to do a bit of blog reading before its time to get dressed to go shopping. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

A Most Beautiful Tomato
October 2, 2019
Good morning. It's really late, but I just did not want to get up this morning. My little Pogo woke me up around 3 a.m. because he was hungry, and I couldn't get right back to sleep till after six a.m.
Last Thursday I ordered a few things from some catalogues and lo and behold, some of them arrived with my mail yesterday. Wow! Talk about great service! I'm trying to finish up a lot of my Christmas shopping so that it can all be wrapped, tagged and ready for mailing early. There will still be things that need to be bought much closer to Christmas, but every little bit wrapped now is a big help.
I promised to post a photo of my beautiful bountiful harvest from my tomato plants. So here it is in all it's glory. Now be honest, isn't this just a most beautiful tomato??? Of course it is, because I get to eat this one!
I had planned to fill a bag for Good Will yesterday, but somehow life did not want to cooperate. So today I'm hoping to fill two bags. I'm not sure how my days get away from me, but they do. And the older I get, the more these days have a mind of their own. I borrowed this cute little image from web because it fits me to a tee.
Since I've been doing so much more cooking, I've come up with a few recipes that are unique to me. (and my scattered brain) This isn't just for chicken. I can do this with hamburger, eggs and steak too, (image borrowed from web)
Today I think I'm going to attempt to cook a pizza again. I have one left in the freezer, and I'm hoping to be able to eat all of it. Not all at once though. Half for one meal and half for another meal. I tried this last week, and it was a disaster. I was cutting the pizza in half, and one half fell to the floor. Spinach and cheese side down of course! Not only did I lose half of my pizza, but I had a mess to clean up too.
If I don't make the pizza for my supper, I might cook up some pasta. I have a bowl of sauce (that I made before) in the freezer. I also have some haddock filets in the freezer. I may cook up one of the filets, place it on top of the pasta and cover it all with sauce. Add a bit of grated parmesan cheese to the top of this and yum yum!
Oh dear, now I have to make a very difficult decision. Shall I have pizza or pasta? I guess I'll just wait and see how I'm feeling later when it's closer to supper time. Whatever I don't have today, I'll have tomorrow. At least that's the plan right now.
Now I'm off to make up a container of orange juice. After that, I want to do a bit of blog reading before I get started on my Good Will bags. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.
Hugs, Edna B.

Hello October
October 1, 2019
Good morning. I can't believe it is already October and I haven't done Summer yet. Here's the October page from my calendar.
I've come to the conclusion that Summer is just not Summer anymore here in New England. As soon as Spring gets it's temps just right, a wicked heat wave sets in and stays till the end of what should have been Summer.
Meanwhile, the heating season has been extended from four or five months to seven or eight months. Seems we put the heat on in October and don't turn it off until some time in May. I used to think that when the seasons started changing, it would be more like Florida's Winter weather coming North, and New England's Winter weather going South. Obviously, I was wrong.
So a weathergirl I'll never be. The weather app on my phone doesn't do so good either. Right now it says that it is raining here. I looked outside just now and there is no rain. Sometime during the night we must have got a little bit of rain but there is none of it left now. According to my phone the sun is supposed to be shining in another thirty minutes.
I'm hoping that it gets it right on that. Tomorrow night I'll have to turn the heat on in the house because the night temps will be down around forty degrees while the days won't begetting much higher than sixty degrees.
There weren't very many bees and butterflies around here this past summer. However, after reading several other blogs, it's good to know that other areas have had plenty of the bees and butterflies in their gardens. Here is some interesting information about bees that I borrowed from the web.
One friend posted this image on FaceBook and I just had to borrow it to share here. Doesn't this just put a huge smile on your heart?
It's a good thing I didn't make any plans yesterday because that's just what I did. No things. Well, I did cook a nice supper for Pogo and me, and then I washed a batch of dishes that were in the sink. And I paid a couple bills too. Today, though, I want to try to fill a couple of bags for Good Will. Or at least make a good stab at it. I really do need to downsize. A whole lot!
Yesterday I picked the one and only tomato that has been surviving on my plant. I noticed that it was beginning to turn color so I picked it and brought it into the house. I put it a paper bag so that it can ripen. Obviously, I can't leave the bag lying around because then the resident mouse will get it. So, I hide it in the microwave. I'll have to take a photo to share here.
I wonder why I plant tomatoes every year. Whatever manages to grow gets eaten by the yard critters. It's cheaper to feed them bird food and peanuts. And a lot less work. Ah well, I guess the critters need veggies every now and too.
Now I'm going to make another cup of coffee and do a bit of blog reading. So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day, hugs, Edna B.
