What Does Fate Have In Store For Our New Mailbox?

August 7, 2013

Good morning.  It's nice outside this morning, but it is getting hot and sticky already.  I have been outside chatting with the mail lady about our new mail box.  It seems that I will have to check with the Post Office to make sure it is on the "accepted" list.  I would think that the Post Office would have made the stores that sell these mail boxes to first make sure they are "acceptable" before selling them to the customers.  I shall call in a while to learn the fate of the new mail box.

I want to thank all of you for your caring thoughts and concern for my health.  Yesterday I started logging my BP readings, and by tomorrow I will probably be calling to reschedule my next appointment (to make it earlier).  I also will start checking my salt intake more closely.  I don't add salt to my cooking or foods, but there is usually salt already in the food.

Audrey called me last week all excited about something new she came across on the web for cars.  They are eyelashes!  Imagine.  Eyelashes and jewels for eyeliner to dress up one's automobile.  Well, I did look them up and they really are rather cute.  I gave it some thought too, but I don't want to be gluing anything on Baby Blue Eyes just yet.  Here's a photo from the web that shows the eyelashes.

Another photo that I have to share is one that I took out in the yard last week.  I was taking photos of some new blooms when this one caught my eye.  I thought it was quite pretty the way the pink rose was snuggled up close with the white butterfly bush blossom.

Over the past weekend I got some new photos of clouds that I thought were quite interesting, and I made a couple of new textures from them.  Here's the original photo of the clouds first, then a preview of the textures.  The textures look similar, but come from different parts of the cloud photo.

Here is the download link for the textures:

There's really not much news for today.  Thank goodness, a lot of my life is nice and dull.  When you reach my age, you can't always handle a lot of excitement in your daily life.  Pogo keeps me busy with his little "no no's" so I get enough excitement.  (It's really sad to think that cleaning up a little dog's poop can be called excitement!)

Now I'm off to make a big pot of pasta and meat sauce.  Janet will be here later this afternoon and we will have this for supper.  I will also be sharing some of it with the dwarfs.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all be safe and have a wonderful day.

A Split Post Today And Another Freebie

August 6, 2013

I'm looking out my window, and it's looking like another fabulous day here in New England.  Actually, August usually is a much nicer month for temperatures than July.  Of course, the downside is that it brings the start of shorter days and gets us closer to Autumn.

....Sorry, I will have to finish this post later.  Today is not one of my best days.  So I'm headed back to bed.

It's mid afternoon now, and I'm finally up again and ready to start my day.  I just checked my blood pressure and it seems to be a bit high.  I'll check it again later and if it stays high I will call to see if I can make my doctor appointment a bit sooner.  At the moment it is for six weeks from now.

I'm not going to chat your ear off now.  I have a couple of photos to share and another freebie for you.   Election time will soon be here, and my family gets right into the middle of things.  Here is granddaughter Jasmine holding a sign for our favorite candidate.  She's the pretty gal, third up from the left.

It may be August, but the way time has been flying by it's not too soon to start practicing on costumes and makeup for Halloween.  Especially the makeup which takes quite a bit of time to perfect.  This year Jasmine is going to be a zombie, and is practicing her make up now.  Here's a  photo to show how it's coming along.  Great job Jazzy!!

And now for your freebie.  A few weeks ago, Kyra posted a free kit "From Heaven"  (July 5) on her blog and I just could not resist playing with it and making a QP.   Actually, I can't resist a lot of her kits.  They are just gorgeous.  Here is the QP.  Enjoy.

Now I'm going to get dressed and try to get a couple of things done while I'm feeling perky.  Till tomorrow, Y'all be safe and have a wonderful day.

Lots Of News Today

August 5, 2013

Good morning.  It's looking like another gorgeous day outside.  Pogo and I are watching a repeat of some of America's Got Talent on TV.  I missed a lot of these acts when they were first on, so this is great.

Thanks to Jimmy Dean, I have just finished, and enjoyed, a breakfast of eggs, potatoes and sausage.  Nuke it, add a little black pepper, and yum, yum!  Sounds like I never cook, huh?  Well I don't cook as often as I used to, but thanks to frozen meals, I don't go hungry.  Cooking for one just isn't much fun.  Maybe this week I'll make up a big pot of pasta and meat sauce.  This will be fun because then I share it with who ever wants some.

I do have news to share this morning.  SIL Eddie bought me a  gift yesterday, and Joe got it set up on the front porch.  It's a locked mail box for packages.  I have wanted one of these for so long.  Now I won't have to worry about rushing home when the mail lady leaves packages of medicines.  Here's a photo of it.  Isn't it a beauty?

I will also share a great gift that my sister in law, Edie, made for me.  It's a bowl made from a 78 LP record album.  I was going to explain how to make one, but it's best if you go to You Tube and look up "How To Make A Vinyl Album Bowl".  There are lots of videos for this.  Be sure to watch a few and pick the one that is easiest for you.  Be sure not to use a baking temperature of more than 200 degrees.  (no matter what the video says).  Here's what my bowl looks like.

And here's a close-up of the album that Edie used to make the bowl.  Look at those fabulous songs!  I listened to this music when I was just a very young girl.  Oh my, the memories!

Today is Mandarin Orange Monday, and I have a gorgeous orange lily (from the Mrs' garden)  to share with you.

And, because I'm feeling so chipper this morning, I have a new freebie for you.  I got a lovely pink flower graphic from the The Graphics Fairy, and had a bit of fun with it making a border and a page edge.  Have fun with it.

For those of you who want to know how small Pogo is, he is up to six pounds now and wears a size small shirt.  Sometimes the shirt is too big, but a turn in the dryer usually shrinks it down to size.  When I first got Pogo, he weighed 3.7 pounds, and he wore a size extra small shirt.  Lots of good loving and good food, and he has gained about two and a half pounds this past year.

That's it for today.  Now I want to spend some time playing with Pogo.  He is snuggled up against me waiting patiently for me to finish this post.   So, till tomorrow, Y'all be safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Happy Dragonflies

August 4, 2013

Good morning from my little part of sunny New England.  The weather this morning is just delicious.  It's cool with a slight breeze, blue skies, white clouds and sunny.  Just perfect.  I'm home from work now, and Pogo and I have already had our little walk around the yard.  It felt really good.

There are some huge white lilies blossoming in the garden, and a couple of days ago Joe held Pogo up to the big blooms so that I get a photo that would show how big the blooms are.  Actually, the blossoms are bigger than Joe's hand too.  Have a look.

I also have some pretty cool photos of a very happy little dragonfly to share.  This little one was flitting from flower to flower, smiling the whole time.  Well, at least it sort of looks like it is smiling.  I like to think that it was happy to show off for the camera.

I think today will be a rather lazy day for me.  I'll do a load of laundry for Joe, then maybe play on the computer for a while.  After that it will be nap time, and then back to work tonight.  I think Pogo and I will go out in the yard again for a while.  It feels so good to be able to enjoy sitting outside.

Not much more news for today.  I made a couple of new textures which I will try to get posted here tomorrow for you.  Till then, Y'all be safe and have a marvelous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Learning Something New

August 3, 2013

Good morning.  Tis a bit cloudy outside at the moment, but I'm not sure what we will end up with for weather.  Yesterday turned out to be a gorgeous day after the rain passed by.  It was even good for Pogo, as Deanne came by early in the morning and picked him up and took him home with her.

This morning, Pogo and I are watching "Too Cute Kittens" and "Too Cute Puppies" on the Animal Channel (on TV).  The kittens and puppies are so darn cute and I want them all.   It's a good thing they are on TV and not here in my living room.  I am a sucker for baby animals.  (Tonight there will be two new episodes of this program on the Animal Channel.)

Speaking of animals, well these really come under the heading of "bugs",  I got some interesting new photos yesterday.  At first I thought they were just dragonfly photos.  But when I looked closer, I realized that this dragonfly is carrying eggs.  To be sure, I looked it up on Google.  My goodness, I have never noticed this before.

Nature is filled with so many interesting things.  Seems like every day has something new to learn.  I'm so glad my camera picks up what my eyes sometimes do not see.

This morning's email brought me two more fabulous gifts from my good friend, Kyra, and has put a huge smile on my face.  Kyra has such an amazing design talent.  Here are her two new scrapbook pages.  Aren't they just beautiful?

On this happy note, I am going to go raid the refrigerator to see what Pogo and I will have for lunch.  I'm thinking that the peach yogurt is looking rather yummy.  There is a jar of Gerber (baby food) meat sticks for Pogo.   Sometimes he eats them right up, and other times he turns his nose up at them.  Ah well, he'll eat when he is hungry.

That's my news for today.  I have a small load of laundry to do and then it will be nap time.  Have to be alert for work tonight.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all be safe and have a fabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Tis Raining Here In New England

August 2, 2013

Good morning.  It's raining here in New England.  I'm at work, and my poor little Pogo is home alone.  Hopefully, he will eat his breakfast and have a nice nap until lunchtime when Deanne will stop by and pick him up and take him home with her.  I will go by her house after work and get him.  It's not the ideal situation, but it's the best I can do without a sitter.

I'm at work now so this will have to be a short post.  Mrs is asleep, but will wake soon and be wanting her breakfast.  I brought the manual for my car in with me today so that I can look up a few things.  I try to learn something new every few days.

Yesterday, Pogo and I spent a little time out in the yard.  While he was busy romping through the grass, I got some new photos.  There was a beautiful large yellow butterfly busy flitting from branch to branch on the butterfly bushes.

There was also a butterfly moth enjoying the blossoms on the bushes.  This is the first time I've seen one of these in my yard.

Another lovely surprise in my garden was all the new flower buds.  My orange rose bush has finally got a new bud on it.  This is one of my favorites.   Here's the new little bud.  Isn't this gorgeous?

Well, now the Mrs is awake and wanting her breakfast.   She has just given me permission to bring Pogo to work on Fridays when I have no sitter.  This will be such a big help for me.  Of course, on her grumpy days, she may change her mind.  Ah well, we shall have to take it Friday by Friday.  Now I'm off to get busy here.  Till tomorrow, Y'all be safe and have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Another Month Has Gone By

August 1, 2013

Good morning.  It looks sunny and bright outside my window, and I got to sleep late this morning.  Last night, I had no problem falling asleep.  I just had to close my eyes, and I must say that it felt good.  Now if I could just figure out how to do that on Thursday nights. (Friday is a work day.)

Well, yesterday was another busy day, followed by a nice visit with my DIL, Janet.  We had pizza for supper and watched some fun TV programs that I had taped earlier in the week.  Betty White has a new program featuring all elderly folks who enjoy playing pranks on young people.  I must admit that it is really funny.  It's called "Off Their Rockers".

This afternoon, I am going shopping with my daughter Deanne.  Her birthday was last month, and this is the first chance we have had to go shopping for a birthday present for her.  I am so looking forward to spending the afternoon with her.

Speaking of "last month", did you notice that today is the beginning of another new month?  It's already August!!  Folks, it time to start some serious Holiday shopping.  (or hand making, if you are into crafts).  The way time is flying by, December will be here before we know it.  Oh my.  Well, here is the August page from my calendar.

I also have a couple of moth/butterfly photos to share.  I don't know whether they are tiny butterflies or moths.  Who cares anyway?  They are interesting.

I know I was going to show you a photo of a new craft but it will have to wait till tomorrow.  First I have to take a couple of photos.  However that will have to wait till later too.  There are only so many hours in the day and I seem to use them all up rather quickly.  Getting old is such fun!

Speaking of fun, I want to get a load of laundry done before I go shopping.  Got to have all my work clothes ready for tomorrow morning.   So, let me get busy here.  Till tomorrow, Y'all be safe and have a fabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.
