A New Day

January 24, 2009

I will try again today to post. Wayne has managed so far to retrieve about 60% of my files. A lot of files are still missing, and some folders are empty. There are other problems with the stuff, BUT I am most grateful for what he did manage to get back so far.

It looks like I will be starting over new with a lot of my stuff. Most all the work from the last two or three months is gone. We used to say "too bad Harry!" I still do.

Today I spent some time trying to retrieve some files that I have in storage on-line. Each day I will look for more. Meanwhile, I will slowly get things back to normal again. Poor little Tootsie isn't too happy with all this. I forget to stop and play, and she gets to feeling neglected. This is something else I will have to work on. She is definitely more important than the computer. The computer doesn't wag it's tail and lick my face when I come home.

Yesterday, on my way home from work, I did stop and buy a USB card reader to use with my laptop and my new little toy. (it's called a netbook) So tonight I can share some photos with you. The first one is of my laptop and my netbook, just to show you how little the new kid is.

The next photo was taken through the kitchen window at work. It's just a great shot of icicles - for those of you who are not blessed with this wicked cold and all the snow and ice. haha. Have a great night.
Hugs, Edna B.

Still Floundering, But The Mind Is Better

January 22, 2009

Upfront I will tell you that I do not have my files back yet and I probably won't them before tomorrow night. So, I don't think I'll hold my breath while I'm waiting for them. Have you ever seen a short, chubby, little old lady with a blue face? Not a very pretty sight.

Have you ever seen these gals with the two inch long finger nails typing away on their computers as if they had normal fingers? How do they do it? I am overdue for my nail salon appointment, my nails are getting too long, and I am having a dickens of a time trying to type on this laptop keyboard. Wayne is supposed to be bringing me a USB keyboard that I can use with it for a while. That should help.

A few days ago, I ordered myself a net book (that's a little laptop that fits in your bag, and is easier to lug around), and it just came a couple of hours ago. I have been trying to figure out how to set it up - this is not one of my strong points. It is the cutest little thing. I will have to take a picture of it to show you.

So now I'm off to see about supper and finishing up the laundry. Need clean stuff to wear to work tomorrow. Have a great night.

Hugs, Edna B.

p.s. My big pc has my card slot in it, so this photo will have to wait till I find my portable one.

Moi? A Spoiled Brat? Yup!

January 21, 2009

He lives!! Wayne woke me up very early this morning with a phone call saying that he thought he was able to save my files. Bless his heart, I could have licked his face!! (Audrey would be proud of me. She's the one who told me about face licking.) Well maybe I could just give him a great big hug and cook him dinner.

Hopefully tomorrow, I will have one whole backup of my files to work with (on an external drive), and I can get busy again. I went back to read what I wrote last night and wow!! What a spoiled brat I sounded like. I will have to work on that this year.

I even journeyed out into the cold this afternoon. Tootsie ran out of her medicine, and I had to pick up her refills. So I got mine too, and all kinds of other stuff. You know, trash bags, freezer bags, chicken chewies for Tootsie, grapefruit cups, healthy snacks, and last but not least, let's not forget the Breathe Right strips. They come in handy when you roll over to sleep on your side and find out you can't breathe, and have to find another position to sleep in. By now you're wide awake. May as well put the TV on.

Time to make the dinner...............................

I've calmed down, and Moo and I have had our dinner. Elbow macaroni and meat sauce. Yum! Neither of us has much of an appetite, but we did our best. to do it justice. Tonight, Tootsie and I are just going to be lazy and watch some TV. Have a great night,

Hugs, Edna B.

Update to Tonight's Posting

January 20, 2009

The phone just rang, and it was Wayne. He proably had to down a couple of shots of Chivas Regal to get up the courage to make the call. The whole hard drive is dead. D E A D!! All my work, all my files, not to mention photos, etc. have up and gone bye bye.

He says that maybe a couple of thousand dollars and some extraordinary technical magic just might be able to retrieve some of my files. And that's only the teeny weeniest of chances. I'm not sure if I want to just rip the rest of his hair out, or just murder him until he yells uncle. I definitely know that one bottle of Sam Adams isn't going to make it all better.

At the moment, I am so angry I could scream. On the other hand, that will only make my head hurt worse. Right now, I think I'll just go cry on my dog and drink my beer. I'll be back tomorrow, but I don't know when I can do my anniversary freebies, because all my stuff is on that stupid dead hard drive. EVERYTHING!!!

Thanks for letting me vent. Have a good night.

Hugs, Edna B.

The Night From PC Hell

January 20, 2009

Well I have bad news and I have good news. Which one do you want first? The bad? Okay. Wayne came over two hours ago and put in the Microsoft safety update patch that was needed. It took about an hour to go in and then it totally crashed my computer. Just like that! Dead like doornails!! After spending another hour trying to revive it, we had to bury it. Actually, he took it home with him to tear it all apart and rebuild it all back up again. Can you guess what comes next? YUP! All my files went with him on the dead computer.

The good news, you ask? I do have a laptop. I can get emails, although I cannot answer or read any that are on my big computer until I get it back. I hope. If Wayne wants to live, that is. I can go on the internet, I can do some of my work, but not much of it. I just took a look, and I really can't do much of what I need to do until I get all my files back.

With some luck, tomorrow Wayne will deliver my files to me on an external drive that I can use with my laptop. If he does that, he lives. Now I'm not normally a wicked little person, but I can learn in a big hurry if I have to. Can you hear me Wayne? At the moment he is still enjoying half of his beautiful hair on his head. Depending on what he brings me tomorrow, he could still enjoy it.

The rest of the bad news is that I cannot give you the promised freebie tonight. I really am so sorry. And I cannot guarantee one for tomorrow either if I don't get my files back. While I am sitting here sharing my awful woes, there is an awful odor wafting silently over to me and making my toes curl up and my eyes roll sideways. Good Lord. Tootsie! I tell you, it's a good thing that I love her so much. The aromas that she puts forth could wipe out a small army of really large men. God bless her little soul.

By now, it must be obvious that this is a Samuel Adams night. I just happen to have a nice cold one waiting in the fridge for just such an occasion. So my thanks to you Moo. He bought me a six pack one week when he won a game of Keno.

Before I wander off to my cozy little bed, with my glass of beer and a chicken chewy for Tootsie (these and her beloved "Greenies" are her absolute favorite snacks), I just want to thank everyone for the really nice thoughts and comments. They really do mean a lot to me.

I can't believe I'm actually closing a post without at least a photo or something. Hold on while I take a look and see if I have anything on this laptop that I can share. ..............................
I found a picture that I don't think I ever posted. This is my Tootsie when I first got her. She was just a gorgeous little bundle of silky soft fluff, and very timid. Isn't she just the sweetest? Who'd a thunk she could empty a room with her perfumery? Enjoy.
Hugs, Edna B.

Happy Anniversary To Miss Edna's Place

January 19, 2009

Wow, this is really some month!! I'm finally feeling comfortable with my computer again, and guess what? Yup, you got it! Caught a people bug. Starting Saturday night, I've been busy fighting off the chills, fever, and all that other horrid stuff that comes with whatever bug is traveling around thse days. So yesterday, as soon as I got in from work, I crawled into my cozy little bed and stayed there till now. And I will go back there in just a little while. Still a bit woozy, but much better.

Today is my one year anniversary on my blog. I just never imagined that I would be posting a daily (almost) chat for so long with so many folks I've never met before, or that I've enjoyed so much. And because you've all been so good for me, I would like to do something nice for you. This week, I will try to have a freebie ready for you everyday all this week.

Before we get to the first freebie, I want to share my new awards, which were presented by Kyra at http://smiekeltje.blogspot.com/. She is such a lovely lady, and her blog is a MUST visit if you like friendly chat and really beautiful kits.

THE SCRAPPING STAR AWARD. The rules are simple. Place logo on blog, with a link back to the person from whom you received the award. Name 5 nominees, and post links to their blogs. Be sure to leave a note on their blog to let them know. My nominees are:

SISTERHOOD AWARD - Triple Awards. The rules for this one are basically the same except that you name up to 10 nominees (if you can) that show great attitude/gratitude.. Most everyone I was going to nominate is already on Kyra's list, so I will only add two more.

I'm off to make some soup now, and then I will go back to my cozy bed and watch some TV much to Tootsie's chagrin. She doesn't understand why I don't want to play much these days. Oh well, I'll make up for it tomorrow. Now for your freebie. Enjoy.

Hugs, Edna B.
