Goodbye, April.

April 30, 2014

Good morning.  My goodness, this month has gone by quickly!  Tomorrow the temps are supposed to warm up again to the low 60's F.  So just maybe, the month of May will bring the rest of Spring with it.  Today is looking like another grayish day with some rain expected.

We still have to plant some veggies, so maybe this week Joe can get that part of the garden cleared.  I have next Saturday off, so that would be a good day to go shopping for some veggie plants.  This year we are going to try to include a few more plants.  As long as we grow some yellow summer squash, I'll be quite happy.  That's my favorite garden veggie.

This week I think I'll try to crochet a hooded scarf.  I've already bought the yarn for it, and I want to try something different for a bit.  The green afghan is now finished.  I just have to check it over for any loose ends, and then it can be boxed up and sent on its way.  Once it reaches its destination, I will share more about who it is for.

I have a couple of photos to share this morning.  This first one was taken through the Mrs' patio door windows this past Sunday evening.  It's a cute little red squirrel enjoying a feast of bird seeds.

Every weekend, on my way to and from work, I pass a little pond with a fabulous reflection in it but I never think to stop.  This weekend I finally stopped to get a few photos.

I also have a cute info image that I found on the web.  What a creative way to impart a bit of knowledge to some of our population.  I looked, and my car has one of these thingies too!  But then, I already knew that.

Yesterday, Pogo got a fabulous belated birthday card from his friend Izzi.  He actually sat and watched it twice, and would like to share it with all of you, so here's the link.  Just click on it and it will take you to the card. Just scroll down one day.   Enjoy.  Thanks Izzi.  You made my little guy very happy.

Now I really must get busy here and chase a few dust bunnies.  They are beginning to take over too much of my space.  It's amazing how quickly these little buggers accumulate.  I think I'll do a bit of shredding today too as the shred box is beginning to overflow.  I have been very neglectful of it lately.

Well that's my news for this morning.  Till tomorrow, Y'all be safe and have a fabulous day.

These Storms Are Downright Horrid

April 29, 2014

Good morning.  Tis cloudy today with a possible chance of some rain.  I've been watching the Weather Channel as they cover the storm damages in the middle section of our country.  So far, there are already 28 deaths, with more expected.  It is simply devastating to see what is happening to these folks.

I know I've said it before, but in my whole life, I have never known there to be so many of these severe storms that are leaving so much devastation in their wake.  Trust me, I did not live my life in a cubby hole unaware of my surroundings.  These storms happened only once in a while.  Now it seems they are a daily event from mid-Spring until Winter when it is too cold to happen.

How does one recover after such a traumatic event such as these tornadoes?  Especially when you have already been through it once before?  I don't know if I could keep rebuilding.

On a lighter note, a friend sent me a photo that I thought I would share.  I don't know who took the photo, but it is awesome.  This poor kitty was abused and rescued, and later adopted by the young man in the photo who is holding it.  (At least that's the information given to me)

Have you ever seen such a big kitty cat?  This one is three feet long and weighs at least twenty pounds.  It looks to me like it probably weights more.   Wow!

I also have another really adorable photo that I found on the web.  It's a female squirrel who rescued a baby she found in an abandoned nest.  Our furry friends never cease to amaze me.

Yesterday dwarf Helen and I went shopping.  First we went to an Ann & Hope store to look at kitchen curtains.  Wowee!!  I fell in love with this store.  Every aisle had all sorts of goodies, and I was so tempted to buy more, but I was good and only bought some new curtains for our kitchen.  I will definitely be shopping here again soon.

Next we went to the Christmas Tree Shoppe.  This is one store where I could spend hours.  I bought a shepherd hook (for hanging a plant or bird feeder) and some small garden fencing.  Also, I got some more suet treats and a thistle sock for the birds, and a couple more sets of bulbs for the garden.  These flowers will do good in the shade.

I finished my day off last night by crocheting while I watched a bit of television with Pogo snuggled on my lap.  There's about six more rows to go and the green afghan will be finished.  Woo Hoo!  Well, that's my news for today.  Till tomorrow, Y'all be safe and have a wonderful day.

April Is Slipping By Really Fast

April 28, 2014

Good morning.  It's 4:30 a.m., and I'm watching the Weather Channel.  They are showing the damage from yesterdays tornadoes in the central part of the country.  In my whole life, I don't ever remember so many devastating tornadoes as we've had these past few years.  I'm not liking these wicked new weather patterns that have been developing since the climate has changed so drastically.

Have you noticed that we are running out of April?  The Spring weather hasn't even settled down and it will be May in a few days!  That means that in less than two months, it will be Summer already.  This is not right. I want my Spring first!!!

On to better news.....Even though we did not have a big party, I hope my little guy enjoyed his birthday.  The shirts that I bought for him were too small, so they will have to be returned.  Maybe we'll visit Petco to see if the new summer shirts are in.  They usually carry a line that fits Pogo pretty good.

I do have some photos to share from yesterday.  Here's the balloon that one of the dwarfs bought for Pogo's party.  However, for some reason, Pogo was afraid of the balloon.

Dwarf Helen bought Pogo a plain double hamburger from Burger King, and I used it to make the birthday cake.  I have to admit this cake does look pretty good.  First I put some rice on the plate, then place one layer of hamburger on the rice.  Next I put a layer of rice for the filling, then place the second hamburger on top of that.  Lastly, I frost the top of the cake with more rice.  There is a tiny bit of butter and cheese in the rice to keep it sticking together.

Lastly, here's my little guy with his cake.  This year, he's very shy.  Maybe it's because the plate is sitting on the string to the balloon.  As you can see, I cut him a nice chunk of cake and he enjoyed every bite.

Note the pretty orange plate?  Last year I got Pogo his own dinner plates.  One orange, one lime green, one red and one blue.  This year I got him two new dinner bowls.  Nothing is too good for my little guy.  For the joy he gives to me, he deserves the very best.

Last night the Mrs behaved much better.  She was only wicked for a little while, then her mood improved 100 percent.  After she went to bed, I worked on the blue afghan.  I have a couple more rows of the multi color yarn to do, and I'll take a photo of it.  Gosh, this one is really pretty.

I'm thinking that this multi colored yarn would look fabulous with a medium gray solid yarn.  Hmmm, I'll have to think about that.  I don't know yet who is going to get this blue afghan.  Maybe when I figure that out, I'll come up with someone who could use one in the gray.

I'm thinking that the green afghan will be finished this week.  I'm down to the last twenty rows already.  Maybe I can box it up and pop it in the mail by next week.  That would be nice.

Later today, Helen and I are going shopping at the Christmas Tree Shoppe to see what fabulous finds they have that we just can't live without.  I love that store.  It's really difficult to go into that store and come out without a bag full of goodies.  If only they had a yarn department, they would be the perfect store!

Well, that's about all my news for today.  It is now Monday morning, and pretty soon I will head on home to my little guy.  So till tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY POGO

April 27, 2014

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you,  Happy Birthday sweet Pogo, Happy Birthday to you.

It's quite gray and soggy wet outside, but it is still a good morning.  Today my little fellow is eight years young.   It won't be a big party, but we will have hamburger cake and ice cream.  Oh, and let's not forget the presents!  Aside from his new stroller which he loves, I got him a couple of new shirts and another little toy.

Pogo has enough toys for a small army of doggies.  He doesn't know how to play with them, but he does enjoy moving them from place to place every once in a while.  Pretty soon though, we will have to bag up some of the older toys to make room for more new toys.

I know it sounds as though we all spoil my little guy, but... well...it's awfully hard not to spoil him.  He is just so darn cute and tiny.  I have to share a funny story.  The other day when Pogo and I were out in the car, it was so nice out that I opened his window almost all the way down.  Pogo was in his car seat in the back seat, and wearing a harness and safety strap.  I looked in my rear view mirror and saw this tiny little face barely poking out the window.  His eyes were shut, and he was enjoying the wind blowing the hair on his face.  I had to laugh.  It was just too adorable.

I will try to get some new photos later today of my birthday guy.  Hopefully I can squeeze in a nap at some point because I have to come back to work tonight.  And hopefully, the Mrs will be in a much better mood.  I'm not sure what bit her yesterday, but last night she was just horrible.

Friday afternoon, Joe did plant the lilac bushes, the chrysanthemums and some of the other flowers.  Here's a photo of Joe planting one of the lilac bushes, plus a close up and the label from the flower pot.  These lilacs will bloom again in late summer.

I also took a photo of the green afghan, which is almost finished.  Just 26 more rows to go.  (It is over the back of the chair, and is much longer than what shows.)  However, it is too big to carry to work, so last night I started on the blue afghan.  As soon as I have a section with both colors done, I'll take a photo of it.

Less than half an hour to go now till I can go home.  I'll have to start packing up my things and put them in the car.  This is the best part of my job....going home.  Feeling that way, I know that this is the right year to retire.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Guess Who Has A Birthday Coming Up!!

April 25, 2014

Good morning.  We have a couple of days of rain coming, but not until tonight.  Today the sun is shining, and it's a great day for planting.  Yesterday we did not get to plant anything because we ran out of day.  Joe says he will plant this afternoon after work.

I have a photo of the chrysanthemums that will be planted today.  Maybe there will be time to get all the plants in the ground.  That would be nice.  I'm just hoping that the cooler temps on the way in won't hurt any of the new plants.

Well, yesterday Helen and I found our way to the JoAnn's super store.  My goodness, it was a yarn heaven.  The only problem was the prices.  They were higher than the store closer to home.  I mentioned this to the salesperson, and was told that if I had a coupon they would honor it.  Unfortunately, we had no coupons with us.  I did not pick up any yarn for DIL Janet because with the higher prices, I thought it best to bring her to the store an let her pick out the yarn herself.

Next, we went into the Walmart next door.  Now their prices were better, but they did not have the selection.  However, I did find some yarn for my next afghan.  I thought that these two colors would look quite nice together.

The green afghan is getting quite big now, so I can take the blue combo with me to work on this weekend at work.  I think I only have about forty more rows to put on the green afghan to finish it off.  I'll say one thing, it sure is pretty and Springy.  I'll take a photo of it later to show you it's progress.

I am definitely planning on trying some new patterns, but for now I really like the pattern I am using.  It is easy to do (as long as I keep checking my stitch count) and it is toasty warm.  The whole thing is done with two strands of yarn.

On the way home from shopping, we stopped by a little seafood restaurant and picked up some dinners to take home with us.  We also stopped at Burger King to get a hamburger for Pogo.  My lunch was the scallop plate, and Helen got the clam plate.  Oh yum!!!

By now, it was almost time for Joe to come home from work, and them we were all going food shopping.  By the time we got home from the market, put away the groceries and made some supper the day was getting late and we were all too tired to go outside and plant.  But it was such a really nice day.

Today I have to get the laundry caught up so that I can go out in the yard this afternoon when Joe does the planting.  I also need to bag up the  trash and take it out to the barrel.  If I have any energy left after that, I might even disturb a few more dust bunnies.

Well, that's my news for today.  Till Sunday, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

p.s.  Guess who has a birthday coming up this Sunday?

Today is A Great Day For Shopping

April 24, 2014

Good morning.  It's only 3 a.m., but seeing as how I fell asleep early I guess I'm up for a while now.  I really hope that it doesn't rain today because we are going looking for that fabric and craft super store.

My shopping list includes yarn for the next couple of projects, and a couple of miscellaneous items.  (needle, etc)   I also have to pick up some yarn for DIL Janet's next project.  This should be a fun shopping experience.

I'm hoping to get these new lilac bushes planted today too.  Right now, they are sitting in my laundry room.  If it's not too windy today, I'll put them outside again.  This weekend, we need to get some of the new bulbs into the ground too.  Plus, it's almost time to set up the lawn furniture and the barbeque.

It's supposed to rain a few days next week so this will be a good time to spread some of the new grass seed. I bought some of the "Grassology" grass seed.  It's supposed to be drought resistant which will be good when those wicked hot days of summer get here.  That's usually when we have to cut back on outdoor water use.

Today I'm sharing a couple of cute images (from the web) that were sent to me by friends.  For some reason, the little guy in the first one reminds me of Pogo.  The second image is just downright funny.

There's really not much news for today so I think I'll take my coffee and curl up in my lounge chair and crochet for a while.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Here Come Those April Showers

April 23, 2014

Good morning.  Today is rather dreary, gray and wet.  I supposed we have to have some of this yukky stuff now and then to appreciate the good days.  I was hoping that the rain would hold off until after my errands are done, but oh well.

Yesterday, Pogo and I had ourselves a simply fabulous time at the new garden center.  Within just a few minutes, we had already filled our shopping basket to capacity with beautiful plants.  We even had to lay a few plants on their side on the shelf under the cart.

We got there just in time for a special sale on potted plants such as tulips, daisy mums and some of the biggest hyacinths I've ever seen.  After filling the cart with some of these, I still went looking for some lilac bushes.  I ended buying two of the reblooming lilacs.  At this point, it was necessary to pay for our goods while we still had some money left, and head on home.

When Joe got home from work, he planted a few of the new plants.  The rest will have to wait until after the rain has gone by.  Here you can see a couple of the yellow tulip plants and one of the white hyacinths.  Aren't they beautiful?

I also have a photo that I took of all the tulips on one of our plant tables in our kitchen.  No matter what the weather, these always put a huge smile on your face.

DIL Janet came by yesterday and brought me two large pans of home made cookies and an adorable musical fuzzy Easter chicken.  I'll share the cookies, but the chicken is mine.  He jiggles and clucks, and is such a happy little character.  Pogo wasn't very impressed with the chicken, but I enjoyed playing with it.

The pink afghan got delivered yesterday, and I found a very happy thank you message on my phone answering machine.  I'm so glad she likes it.  It really warms my heart to see this pretty lady smile.

Now I must get busy here and get dressed. Pogo and I have a couple of errands to do, and I have an appointment at the nail salon at noon.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Happy Birthday Edie

April 22, 2014

The sun is shining and it is supposed to be warm today.  Good morning America!`  What a great day to be alive.  In a little while, Pogo and I will hop in the car and do a couple of errands.  One, of course, will be to visit that new garden center.  I'm hoping to come home with a brand new lilac bush to plant.

Today is SIL Edie's birthday.  Pogo and I wish you a beautiful day filled with sunshine and love.  Here's big hugs from me and some licks from Pogo.  We love you Edie.

Yesterday morning we did go out, but only made it to the Post Office to mail a box.  I really wanted to do a few more errands, but was too tired so we headed back home.  In between naps and a few other small things, I managed to put a few more rows on the green afghan.  It will have 106 rows, and I've done 49 rows so far.

Last night, I spent some time looking over a lot of the free patterns that I found on the links that Kyra sent to me.  Wow, there are some fabulous designs, and not all of them are difficult.  I even found a really pretty granny square to try.  It is ruffled, and would make a rather pretty afghan.  Isn't this pretty?

Our dwarf Helen is off work this Thursday, and we are planning to go check out the JoAnn's Fabric and Crafts Super store.  I've been told that they have a really huge yarn inventory, so this should be a fun outing.

Today I have a couple of cute photos to share.  These two lily plants are so happy to see Spring finally arrive that they are willing to grow anywhere just to bask in the warm sunshine.  One is growing out of a tiny crack in a short cement wall, and the other is growing out the side of a cement block.  It just goes to show that where there is hope, there is a way.

Well, that's my news for today.  Now it's time to pay a few bills, and then get ready to do some errands.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a magnificent day.

Hugs, Edna B.

'Tis Another Beautiful Spring Day

April 21, 2014

Good morning.  The sky is beginning to lighten up so that day can begin, and in about an hour and a half I can go home to my little guy.  Both of my shifts this weekend have been pretty good, with the Mrs behaving fairly well.  Hmmm, it might have been because she knew that the Easter Bunny would not leave her any goodies if she were not behaving.  Whatever the reason, I'll take it!

Yesterday was such a beautiful day, topped off by a magnificent ham dinner cooked by our lady dwarf, Helen.  It ended up with almost all the dwarfs changing plans and staying home, so dinner was quite lively with all of us there.

I want to share a pretty photo that I took through the trees here at work Saturday evening as the sun was going down.  The colors in the sky were simply gorgeous.  Isn't this pretty?

Last night when I first got to work, I noticed a family of deer in the field across the street.  Of course, I had to grab my camera and take some photos.  I just love watching these deer.

.....I just had to take a short break to go and tend to the Mrs.  Now she is back in bad all comfy, and on her way back to sleep.

Either today or tomorrow, Pogo and I will take a trip to the Post Office to mail our box.  It all depends on how tired I am later this morning.  I would like to do it today.  This way, we have a great excuse to swing by a new garden center that I found the other day and check out what  they have.

Last night I put a few more rows on the green afghan.  Hopefully I can have this one finished up in the next two or three weeks.  I'm anxious to try making a hooded scarf, and I already have the yarn for it.  Maybe after I retire, I'll get me another sewing machine and try making a quilt.  We'll see.

Well, I must go now.  I want to catch up with a few of my favorite blogs while it is quiet here.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Happy Easter

April 20, 2014

Good morning.  Day is breaking here in New England, and it's a bit chilly outside.   Hopefully, the Easter Bunny has had his long woolies on all night while delivering eggs.  I'm at work now, but I know that when I get home, I'll find a big basket of eggs waiting for me to put out for the dwarfs.  I know the Bunny has a very busy night, so I told him to just leave the eggs and I would do the rest.

Do I have any good news to share this morning?  Oh yes, I surely do.  The Koolaid Kid was in the newspaper this past Friday.  (That's grandson Kevin.)   Here's a fabulous shot of him (#6) sliding into home plate.  And another photo of his team mates giving him a high five!  And yes, his team won this game.

I also had a surprise visit from my SIL Edie and her hubby.  Gosh, it was so good to see her up and about.  She's been battling the big C for so very long.  I hope this time it is finally gone and it stays away.   While she was here, I showed her the pink afghan that I've been working on, and she just loved it.  Little does she know!

That night, I put the last rows on the afghan, and finished off all the ends.  I put it in a box and covered it with tissue.  Now I just have to write a little note to put with it, and I'll mail it off tomorrow.   It will be like a big hug from Pogo and me on those days when she is feeling a bit down.

Yesterday I took a photo of some of my daffodils that are blooming.  They are not all standing quite so tall after being covered with snow and ice, but at least they are blooming and they are quite beautiful.

I've been working on the green afghan and it's looking quite lovely.  Hopefully, I can get this one finished in the next few weeks so that I can start a new project.  Kyra has sent me some more links to websites that offer free knit and crochet patterns, and there are some gorgeous ones that I might like to try.

Last night I thought I might get caught up on some of my emails, and wowee!!  My email program had 2001 emails ready to drop into my inbox.  It took me over half an hour to get them all and delete them.  They were duplicates of ones that I had already read and deleted, and some that I never got at all.  Somethng is messed  up somewhere!

Two of the dwarfs have changed their plans and are staying home today, so dwarf Helen and I will stay home and we'll all have a big dinner together.  Ham and potatoes and veggies!  Yum Yum!   Hopefully I can squeeze in a nap today so that I can come back here tonight all perky.  The Mrs was in a pretty good mood last night.  Here's hoping it lasts for tonight too.

Well, that's my news for this morning.  Don't eat too many eggs!  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous Easter Sunday.

Hugs, Edna B.

Magnificent Orange And Spring Green

April 18, 2014

Good morning.  It's sort of half and half sunny and cloudy with temps in the 40's today.  Tomorrow the warmer temps are supposed to be back.  I do hope so because all these new flowers need to be put into the ground.

Speaking of new flowers, I went food shopping yesterday afternoon, and guess what I found there?  A pot of simply gorgeous orange tulips!  Well, you know I had to have them.  They are such a happy, vibrant color and will be just stunning coming up every year in my garden.

Yesterday morning, Pogo and I went in search of Jo-Ann's, that fabric and craft store that was somewhere in the Mall.  We found it, and I found some wicked nice yarn.  While we were checking out, the cashier told me that they have a huge store in Attleboro, MA that carries a huge yarn inventory.  Hmmm, I see a trip to Attleboro coming up in the near future.

Last night, I tried some of the new yarn on the green afghan, and oh my!  This is going to be such a happy afghan.  But of course!  The main color is Spring Green, and Spring is a happy season!

I checked my email this morning, and I see that my friend Kyra has sent me a huge list of web sites with free afghan patterns.  I will check these out after I finish posting here.  It looks like I'm going to busy for quite some time.

Time has been slipping by quickly lately, and I'm running out of time to get my Easter eggs decorated.  I'm not doing baskets for the dwarfs, just eggs.  Most all of them will be leaving in the morning to spend the day with their families.

I'm hoping that sometime soon, DIL can go with me to a particular camera store so that I can check out the new Tamron lenses.  If I find something that I think needs to be in my camera bag, I have to start now being nice to Santa.  Or maybe if I drop enough hints, Pogo will get it for me.  Hmmmm, it's something to think about!

Today I really should do something about getting some of the dust bunnies to move out.  They are starting to take over too much of my space.  We had a deal to respect each other's space, and they are not keeping up their end of the bargain.  It's time to suck up a few bunnies!

On that note, I'll take my leave.  The sooner I run the vacuum, the sooner I can play with yarn.  So, till Sunday, Y'all smile and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

It's A Great Day To Look For The Yarn Shop

April 17, 2014

Good morning  At the moment the sun is shining, so I'm hoping this will be as nice a day as yesterday was.  If it stays nice, Pogo and I are going to go hunting for the fabric and yarn shop that is supposed to be in the Mall.

Yesterday, I went on-line and got the phone number for the store that is supposed to be in the Mall (that I could not find) and I called them to ask just exactly where they were located.  There is one part of the Mall that is off the beaten path, and I rarely ever go there, and that is where they say they are located.

I also went on-line to order some yarn, but first I will try to find the store.  It is so much better to see the yarn and feel it in person so that you know what you are buying.  There is also a yarn shop in a neighboring town that I would like to look up.

Last night I dug out the colorful project that I started while we were in Florida.  It only needs a few more rows to finish it off so I think I'll do that while I'm finishing off the pink afghan, which also only needs a few more rows to be done.  Hopefully I'll have the new yarn so that I can work on the green afghan this weekend.

I  think when I finish the afghans that are to be gifts, I'd like to make one for myself.  There are so many beautiful yarn colors that it will be difficult to settle on a color theme for myself.  Hmmm, such a big decision.  I love the pumpkin orange, and the lilac.  But then the mauve is just gorgeous too.  Ah well, it will keep me busy for a while.

My Easter Lily is looking and smelling delicious.  Here's a photo I took of it yesterday.  All the blossoms on the Spring Cactus are opening too, and it is looking simply gorgeous.

DIL Janet is working on a crocheted hat scarf, and it is looking so pretty that I might try to make one too.  I think, though, that I will look for a simpler pattern.  The one Janet is working on looks so complicated and it takes so long to put on just one row.  Anything this difficult would have me losing interest quickly.

Well, now it's time for me to get dressed and maybe do a couple things around the house before Pogo and I get ready to go shopping.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a really wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

The New "Pogo Mobile" Has Arrived

April 16, 2014

Good afternoon.  I'm a bit late posting today but I had an appointment this morning to take my car in for it's maintenance check up.  It's a good thing that I looked out the window at least an hour before I had to leave the house because my car and everything else was covered with a layer of snow.  Now that was quite the surprise!

It's a good thing we haven't put the pansies and other plants in the ground yet.  Maybe another day or two.  Here's what it looked like this morning.

I had to run the car a while to melt the ice and snow from the windows.  Gosh, I thought Spring had finally come!

Yesterday we got a big box delivered, and guess what it was.  If you guessed the new "Pogo Mobile" you are right.  We unpacked it and Joe put it together.  My goodness, what a beauty!

This morning Pogo got to ride around the car dealership in his new "Pogo Mobile" without the mesh screen up and he just loved it.  Everyone there noticed right away that he had a new stroller and came over to see it.  I tell you, this little fellow is well loved every where we go.

On the way home this morning, I went through the Mall looking for the yarn and fabric store.  Son of a gun!  It's not there anymore!  Next I tried two different Walmarts.  One had no yarn at all; and the one with the new craft and yarn department was sadly lacking in supplies.  They had very little yarn, and not enough of any one color to complete a project.  I guess I will have to go online and order my yarn from the manufacturer.

Some of my daffodils are blooming so I shall go out and take a few photos this afternoon.  As for the treadmill, SIL Eddie came by with some oil to loosen it a bit, plus we put a couple of wood blocks under the corners to keep it off the carpet.  Mostly it was the carpet that was making it work so badly.  Now it works pretty good so I have no excuse for not walking and getting a bit of exercise every day.

We are having a cold spell for a few days.  The days aren't so bad, but the nights are definitely cooler.  I had shut the heat off for a few days, but it is back on now for a few days.

Well now I have some things to do around here before DIL Janet gets here.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

No Moon, Just Lots Of Cloud Cover

April 15, 2014

Good morning.  I've been up since 2 a.m. so that I might get a glimpse of the lunar eclipse.  I made several trips outdoors to see if the clouds in the sky had moved on by, but alas they had not.  Between 2:30 and 3:15 a.m. the sky had a rather pretty corally red glow, but only through a cloud cover.  There were no stars or anything else to be seen.

Pogo and I got into the car and took a short ride downtown to the supermarket parking lot so that we would have a much larger view of the sky without trees but there was still nothing to see.  By 3:30 a.m. the pretty reddish glow had also disappeared.  Bummer!

As long as we were already up, I made us breakfast, and did a jigsaw puzzle on my laptop.  Perhaps when I finish this post, I shall curl up in my lounge chair and do a bit of crocheting.  It's already raining lightly outside, so we'll probably be staying in most of today.

We were going to be cooking an Easter dinner this year, but the only ones home will be one of the dwarfs (Helen) and Pogo and myself.  So I'll cook a special little dinner for Pogo and Helen and I will  treat ourselves to dinner out.  Sounds good to me.

The flower catalogue that I had ordered came, and oh my such big problems trying to pick out just one or two things for the garden!  Everything looks so beautiful, but alas there is only so much room in the gardens.  Have no fear, I shall work hard at choosing something.

SIL Eddie came by last night and set up the treadmill.  We both tried it out, and I must say that it probably could give one a fabulous workout if only one could actually stay on it long enough to work up a healthy sweat.  You have to be very very strong to actually make the tread part move.

Eddie is coming by tonight to put some more oil on it.  Maybe that's why it is so difficult to use.  If that does not solve the problem, I may have to box it back up and return it.  I'm really trying, but if it takes away all my breath in only thirty seconds, then it is just not worth it.

I have no photos of this morning's fabulous moon so I'll share some of the images that friends have sent to me.

Well, there's much news so I'm going to curl up in my chair, watch a Law & Order re-run and crochet.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Oh, What A Gorgeous Moon!

April 14, 2014

Good afternoon.  Today is supposed to be simply gorgeous so I think I'll take a quick nap this morning so that Pogo and I can go outside and enjoy the day after lunch.  I was so hoping to go to the Garden Center today and buy a lilac bush, but with so many cold nights coming up this week I may have to wait until next week to buy the plant.

After the Mrs went to bed last night, I worked on the new green afghan.  Alas, I ran into a problem.  The alternate colored yarn that I bought is not the same thickness as the green yarn.  Boo Hoo.  What a bummer!  Now I will have to look around for another yarn to match the green.  Sighhhh, such problems!  lol.

Later today I'll go online to Red Heart.com to see what yarns are available.  I think I'd like to make myself an afghan too.  Maybe a pretty orange one.  Hmmm, we'll see.  I'm hoping to have the pink afghan finished this week.  I'm giving it away to someone special.

Last evening the moon was simply gorgeous.  Here's a photo showing its beautiful misty aura.

Tonight there is going to be a total lunar eclipse.  The best time to get a good look at this blood moon will be around 3 a.m. until about 3:45 a.m.  Mars will be visible to the eye tonight too.  It will be the brightest glowing star in the sky.    I am hoping to be able to take some photos, so I'll have to set my alarm clock tonight.  I don't usually sleep through the whole night but with my luck this would be the night that I slept till morning.  Go figure!

While my flowers are still budding, the Mrs' flowers are already blooming.  Here's one of her jonquils and a hyacinth.  Mmmmm, beautiful!

Well, that's my news for this morning.  My eyelids are beginning to droop so I think it's time for my nap.  So till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

My Very Own Walk-A-Thon Machine

April 13, 2014

Good morning.  It's a bit cloudy outside at the moment, but the weather man promises us a sunny day with temps in the mid 60'sF.  Tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer.  I hope so because I want to get my new planters set up with flowers.

Plus, I want to go back to the Garden Center and buy a lilac bush.  At my last house, I had so many beautiful lilacs in both purple and white.  I miss them so.  I also had a mock orange bush at one time, and it smelled so sweet.  Hopefully, I can get another one.

Friday I gave Dee Dee a glass planter filled with light purple tulips.  They are so beautiful and she can plant the bulbs in her garden after the blooms have gone by.  Here's a photo of these beauties.

She went with me Friday to pick up my new Walk-A-Thon machine.  Now I will be able to walk a little bit every day, even when it is raining.  (That's supposed to be a bit of humor.)  SIL Eddie brought it in the house for me, and hopefully he'll come back soon and set it up.  I tried to do it myself, but the darn thing is too heavy for me to lift.  I took this photo from the cover on the box.

There are no special frills on this contraption, just the basics.  I'm just wondering if this gadget can make my body look like this one again.  What do you think?  Hmmm?

Did anyone notice that gorgeous moon yesterday evening?  When I got to work, the moon was just sitting up there in the sky looking so beautiful, so of course I had to take some photos.

The pink afghan that I am working on is almost finished.  It needs less than twenty more rows and I can start the next one.  However, it is too big to take to work with me now, so last night I took the yarn for the new green afghan and got that one started.  I was going to use a different pattern, but after tearing everything out twice, I decided to use the same pattern as the pink afghan.  I can work on this one at work and the pink one at home.

Yesterday, Joe cleaned out most of the garden areas, so we'll be able to plant the new bulbs and flowers this week.  He also cleared a big area where we can plant a lot of wildflower seeds.  I may even pick up a few hostas for that same area.

There are little green leaves coming on my rose bushes, so it's really feeling like Spring here.  All my daffies and tulips are coming up.  The daffodils are budding so pretty soon we'll have some beautiful splashes of yellow in the garden.

That's my news for today.  Before I go, I want to share an adorable photo that Deanne took of her beautiful Kitty.  Kitty was lying on her back on a chair (this is how she sleeps) and it looked as if she were saying her prayers.  "Now I lay me down to sleep......."

Now I do believe I should maybe run the vacuum or wash the dishes before I snuggle under the covers for a nap.  Then again, maybe I'll wait until after my nap.  Hmmm, decisions, decisions!  So, till  tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.
