Sassys Trip To The ER

September 10, 2019

Good morning.  Sorry about not posting yesterday, but by the time we got home, made lunch, washed the dishes, etc. it was after 3:30 so I  figured I'd just wait till this morning to post.

As you know, Deanne and I took Sassy to the hospital to find out what was wrong with her.  Sassy has been having trouble climbing the stairs lately, and started whimpering in her sleep.  We were hoping it was just arthritis creeping in and nothing more serious.  As it turned out, that's basically what the problem was.

Sassy is a tiny twelve pound Chihuahua (plus a bit of pug I think) and is not used to being trotted off to the hospital to be poked and probed.   The poor darling was very scared to say the least.  But she did a great job (did not bite the doctor).  Actually, she probably would have bit the doctor, but she had a tiny little muzzle on.  Here's a photo of her mommy (Deanne) cuddling her close so that she won't be scared.

After a few tests, the doctor prescribed some medicine to help with the pain and the inflammation.  Deanne will get the results from the tests sometime today.  Hopefully, they will show nothing else wrong.

While we  were away, the mailman left me a package.  It was a children's book that I had ordered.  I first saw this book mentioned on Steve's blog.   It's called "Tucker's Countryside."   I had never read this book and the cover picture was so intriguing that I just had to get a copy.  Amazon here I come!  Well I read it last night, and I must say it was such a delightful story with wonderful drawings throughout the book.

Is this sweet little mouse going to be lunch for the robins?  Or are the robins lowering the branch so that Tucker (the mouse) can grab a hold of it?  You'll have to read the book to find out.  (You never really get too old to read children's books.)

By suppertime, I wasn't sure what I might cook up, but then I remembered the pizza I had in the freezer.  So, yup, that's what I had.  Spinach pizza.  Yum, yum!  I was good and only ate two of the three slices.  I'll have the remaining slice for lunch today.

After supper, Pogo curled up on a blanket near me on the sofa and had himself a nap while I was reading the book.  I just couldn't help taking another photo of him sleeping.  He's just a tiny bundle of precious.

When I finished reading the book, I decided to go meet up with the Sandman too.  A perfect ending for a very good day.  Now I'm off to do a bit of blog reading.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Shopping At Ocean State Job Lot

September 8, 2019

Good morning.  It's quite lovely here today.  Temps will be in the low seventies with a little breeze.  Nice!  Autumn is moving in quickly though.  Pretty soon all the leaves will be turning and temps will drop even more.  The nicer part of summer just doesn't last long enough.

Has anyone noticed that Dorian went right over Nova Scotia, causing all sorts of havoc.  Isn't that called a landfall?  And right now it is heading over the Eastern tip of Newfoundland.  Is that another landfall?  Is this hurricane setting a record?  I don't think I've even seen a hurricane take in the whole Eastern coast of North America.

I was asked what Ocean State Job Lot is like.  It's like an inexpensive department store.  They have a little bit of almost everything.  They have some of the neatest things for your yard and garden.  I love poking around in this department.  Plus they have clothes, office goods, toys, crafts, books, cards, auto things, a hardware department, pet food and accessories, canned and dry foods, coffee and tea, furniture, rugs, linens, novelties, did I forget anything? Their prices are super.

And Pogo loves that store.  Everyone is so nice to him there.  We have two of these stores.  One of them is smaller and is not far from us.  The other is new and huge, and only two towns over.  That's the one we went to on Friday.  It was fun just walking around and looking at everything.

I did find a couple gifts for Christmas.  Plus I got a loaf of raisin sweet bread.  I love that bread.  In the tea aisle, I got a bottle of green tea to try.  Guess what?  I liked it!  Next trip, I'll pick up some more of it.  We found some brown gingerbread men peeps.  I got two packages and ate them both that night.  Yum yum.  I even found a bottle of maple syrup, so I bought it and had it on my pancakes this morning.

Today I thought I'd post a couple more of my favorite "oldies but goodies" QP's.   These are both from four years ago.  I hope you can use them.

Tomorrow's post may be late.  I'm taking Deanne and her little dog Sassy to the hospital.  Sassy hasn't been feeling so good lately so we're going to have her checked out.  I may be posting in the afternoon.

Now I'm off to do a bit of blog reading.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Temperatures Are Dropping Fast

September 6, 2019

Goode morning.  So far, it's cool and 57F degrees,  Later it will warm up to the high sixties with maybe a little sunshine.  For the next five days, we're looking at temps between 69F and 75F degrees for a high with nights dropping down into the low fifties, one down to 48F degrees.  This is such a sharp drop from the hot weather we've had all summer long.

Today's post will be short because Deanne will be coming to pick me up and take me out to do some errands.  I don't need much today.  Maybe just stop by the bank and perhaps we can wander around Ocean Spray Job Lot for a while.  Pogo will like this.  He doesn't get out much anymore.  Sorry, Pogo.

Here's a photo of the new book that I just got.  I have to say that so far it is very interesting.  I'll have to copy a few things from it to share here.

A couple days ago, Pogo and I got to spend the whole afternoon out on the porch.  It really felt so nice.  It was warm , but there was a super nice breeze keeping things comfy.   We got cheated out of a lot of our porch time this year because of the wicked heat.  Let's hope that next summer will be much more enjoyable.

I have a couple photos that Pogo let me take of him.  As soon as he realized that I had taken them, he quickly put his head down

The Weather Channel is showing videos of the havoc that Dorian is causing in Virginia Beach, Va. with heavy winds and rain.  Folks in the Outer Banks, No. Carolina are being asked to move to higher levels in their homes because of the rising water.    This storm made it's fourth landfall at 8:35 a.m. this morning over Cape Hatteras, No. Carolina.

By tomorrow, this nasty storm should begin to work it's way out of there and start to make it's way to us in Southeastern Massachusetts.  I hope by the time it gets up here, it will have diminished to just a little bit of rain and wind, a cough and a sneeze so to speak.  We'll have to wait and see.

Now I have to start getting ready for when Deanne gets here.  So, till Sunday Y'all please stay safe and have a fantabulous weekend.

Hugs, Edna B.

Happy Birthday Nick

September 5, 2019

Good morning.  Today is quite lovely here.  Lots of sunshine and 60F degrees.  Later, temps will get up into the mid seventies.  Perfect!  Last night's rain came and left a few little wet drops on my car's windshield.  I doubt if any of those droplets even hit the ground.

First, let me wish my great grandson, Nick, a Very Happy Birthday.  Yesterday he turned eleven years old and started his first day in the sixth grade.  Nick, I hope your day was awesome.  Meema loves you.  This is Nick, and he looks super happy to be back in school.

I received an email and some photos from a reader who has been travelling around Australia.  The photos are of the Green Bird Flower, (Hummingbird Plant) which grows in the remote areas and red sands of Western Australia. (and other areas) These are awesome photos.  Thank you so much Eileen for sharing these with us.  Let me know how you make out trying to grow the plants from seed.

I just switched over to the Weather Channel (on TV) only to find that Hurricane Dorian has re-intensified (Cat 3) and is causing all sorts of grief on the Carolinas.  This also means huge amounts of rain in Southeastern Virginia. That's where my daughter Audrey is. Hopefully, everyone in the coastal areas of the Carolinas have already evacuated.

Already, more than two hundred thousand folks have lost electrical power, and several areas in both North and South Carolina are issuing tornado warnings.  (Tornados have already been reported to have touched down) This is one nasty storm!  I'd like to see it turn and head back out to sea, but it doesn't look like that's going to be happening anytime soon.

Ever had crispy fried eggs?  It's what happens when you are paying too much attention to the Weather News and  not enough attention to the eggs you are frying.  I'll tell you, they don't taste too bad, although I don't recommend having them every day.

Now I'm off to do a bit of blog reading.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe and have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

New Recipes To Try

September 4, 2019

Good morning.  Tis a bit on the gray side today, but that is okay.  I'm sure the sun will be popping in and out.  Temps are in the high sixties right now, but will climb up into the mid eighties this afternoon.

It's rather quiet around here.   There were a lot of catalogues in the mail yesterday, so I spent quite a bit of time going through those.  On TV, I split my time between watching the Weather Channel and BUZZR, a channel with lots of old time game shows.

On TV, they are talking about FEMA and how it works.  I didn't catch all of it, but I did catch the phrase about "their thousands of employees."  If they really do have thousands of employees, it makes me wonder just how much of the money given to them actually goes to the people in dire need in the aftermath of large storms.

I know several years ago, we had some really bad flooding and it caused lots of damage to homes.  FEMA was in the area to help.  It was really difficult to get them to talk with me about the damage to my home.  After a lengthy bit of time, they finally said they would  see about getting me a low interest loan.  This came after I spent more than ten thousand dollars on repairs.  I  told them no thank you.

So I'm wondering, if they were only helping folks to get low interest loans, then what exactly were they doing with all the money given to them to help folks.  Did they use this money to pay their thousands of employees?  This is one agency I would not donate to.  The Red Cross either.  I don't trust either of these agencies.  Instead, I give to the Salvation Army.

For those of you who love pickles and can't have them now because of a no salt diet, here's a recipe  that I found in one of my new recipe books.  (by Donald A,. Gazzaniga)

Pogo and I also like Fried Rice, so here's another of Donald Gazzaniga's recipes.

I think I'm going to give this Fried Rice a try.  Not today.  First I have to gather up all the ingredients.  It does sound tasty though.

My goodness, the mailman just came and left me with a huge bundle of mail. Most all of it is what I call junk mail.  This will keep me busy for a while.  Later, I think I'll start working on putting together my next blog book.  I need to pick out the photos for the covers and resize them.

Now I'm off to do a bit of blog reading.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Happy Birthday Lilah

September 3, 2019

Good morning.  Tis lovely here in my little part of New England, although I do think we may have some rain headed our way.  I'm still following the Weather Channel's reports of Hurricane Dorian.  I think we're on day three of this nasty storm beating down and destroying everything in sight in the Bahamas.

The videos are showing so much total devastation in the Bahamas.  So many trees are stripped of all their branches, houses are demolished, the airport has been under five feet of water and the devastation hasn't stopped yet.  How do you bounce back from three cat 5 landfalls and three days of 175+ mile an hour winds from just one storm?  I just don't know.  God Bless and help these folks.

The storm is finally on the move west and north, but only at the same one mile per hour. Except for the coastline, Florida has been spared the worst scenario, although they still have to be concerned about winds and flooding.  Now we just have to wait and see what will be happening from Georgia on up the coast.

Today is my great granddaughter Lilah's birthday.  Happy Birthday sweetie.  I hope you have an awesome day filled with sunshine and love.  Meema loves you.

I didn't really do much yesterday, but I did get a lot of rest.  This morning I was up early, around four o'clock.  I used the time to look up some different recipes in the no salt recipe book.  There were a few  that looked interesting so I took photos of them.  I'll try to share some of them starting tomorrow.

After that, I made breakfast for Pogo, then started on mine.  I cut up some yellow peppers and put them in the fry pan with a little butter to get them browned a bit.  Then I added two eggs and scrambled it all together.  Oh my, yum, yum!

My new cooktop is definitely making a difference in what I eat.  I've cooked more eggs on it than I did the whole time I was using the induction burner.  Being able to control the cooking temperature surely does make a difference.

I found an image on the web and just had to download it.  What can I say?  It's me!

Another image that I borrowed from the web is much more serious.  This is good information to keep handy by the phone.

Today I'm thinking I might wash a load of Pogo's blankets and maybe some towels.  I'm still working on filling another bag for the Good Will folks.  That's my plan, so we'll see just how far I get with it.   Pogo has his eye on the door.  He's watching for the mailman who will soon be here.  Pogo just loves barking at this person.  I think the mailman looks forward to it too.

Now I'm off to do a bit of blog reading.  But first let me share one of my all time favorite images that I borrowed from the web.

So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Keeping An Eye On Dorian

September 2, 2019

Good morning.  The sun is shining here and it's rather lovely outside.  We may get some rain later today and tomorrow.  As we celebrate Labor Day, we are all sending prayers for everyone in the path  of Hurricane Dorian, especially the folks in the Bahamas.

This wicked storm is destroying those beautiful islands.  Already, a seven year old boy has died and his sister is missing.  It is gut wrenching to lose a child and have another missing.  My heart cries for these folks.  As I watch the weather videos on TV, I wonder just how long these folks can hang on.  The hurricane is just sitting on them, not moving.

Even though the hurricane is one hundred miles away from Florida, some coastal areas are already feeling the wrath of the winds and water surges from it.  The TV just said that the outer band rains are now over Florida.  Many cities and town are being evacuated.

Here's an image I borrowed from the web to show just how far reaching this wicked hurricane is.  This map was issued at 5 am this morning.    As you can see, it's path takes in most of the eastern coast of the U.S.  At the top of this map is the southeastern part of my state, Massachusetts.  Folks, this storm is humongous!

On TV, they have been showing all the power trucks from many surrounding states that are lined up in Florida to begin working to restore power outages as they occur.  It's a beautiful sight, folks.  Americans coming together to help each other.

I have a lot of friends and family members living in Florida.  Thankfully, most of them are in the western half of the state.  However, some are on the east coast and I'm praying for their safety.  Those of you living in the eastern parts of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia, please keep up with the weather alerts and head for safer ground as soon as possible.

That's it for this morning.  I want to catch up on my blog reading and then it's back to following Dorian's path.  So, till tomorrow, please stay safe and God Be With You.

Hugs, Edna B.
