READ YOUR BARCODES

June 24, 2019

Good afternoon.  Yup, I'm posting late today because I decided to do my banking and grocery shopping early in the morning before it got too hot for me to be outside.  Now I'm home and all the groceries are put away.

I went to a different market today.  Shaw's Market is next to the bank so I thought I would give them a try.  Wowsie!  Everything cost so much more than it does at WalMart.  Items that I pay $2.00 and $2.29  for at WalMart cost $3.99 and $4.29 at Shaw's.  A six pack of toilet tissue at Shaws is $14,99.  I doubt I'll be shopping there again anytime soon.

Today I thought I would share something that my friend Rhoda sent to me.  It's about why we should always read the labels on the foods that we buy.  No matter what the front of the box or package says, turn it over and read the back -- carefully.

With all the food and pet products now coming from China, it is best to make sure you read the label at the grocery store and especially at WalMart when buying food products.  Many pruducts no longer show where they were made, only give where the distributor is located.  It is important to read the bar code to track its origin.

How to read Bar Codes.....interesting!  This may be useful to know when grocery shopping, if it's a concern to you.   It's a great way to "buy USA & CANADA"  and not from CHINA.  Can you tell which products are made in Taiwan or China?  If the first three digits of the barcode are 690, 691 or 692, the product is made in CHINA.   471 is made in Taiwan.

It is our right to know, but the government and related departments never educate the public, therefore we have ro rescue ourselves.  Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not preder food products "MADE IN CHINA" so they don't show the country from which it is made.  However, you may now refer to the barcode -- remember if the first three digits are:

690 - 692 .....it is made in CHINA

00 - 09 .....it is made in USA & CANADA

30 - 37 .....it is made in FRANCE

40 - 44 .....it is made in GERMANY

471 .....it is made in TAIWAN

49 .....it is made in JAPAN

50 .....it is made in UK

Buy USA & CANADIAN MADE by watching for "0" at the beginning of the number.  We need every boost we can get, so pass this on to your family and friends.

Now I need to find something tasty to feed Pogo for lunch.  (and me too!)  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

p.s. If anyone had trouble downloading the QP last Wednesday, I have fixed the link so you can try again if you want the QP.

Thanks for the info about the bar codes, but we are so multi-cultural here and Louisiana sometimes I will end up in stores where there are all goods from china, Pakistan, etc. I just love trying different types of food and some of it is very tasty. I mostly eat American food but I do go out sometimes and shop for other culture of foods. I don't blame you for not going back to shop at that expensive store again. (lol) I probably would have walked out and gone to Walmart. Kroger is expensive also and right across the street from Walmart. If they have something I need and it's on sale I will go and get just what's on sale, but I end up going to sales in all of the stores. I only buy what's on sale. I did find folgers coffee on sale last week at Kroger for 4.99 (large container) and bought 2 of them. I am a budgeting person. I am always talking to my son about rainy day funds and to stop shopping when he doesn't need what he is buying. I buy cheap as possible. Have a great day....you and Pogo

I've noticed the issue with distribution location and not place of manufacture. Very troubling! Will be on the lookout for the codes before I buy. Thanks so much.

So interesting about the bar codes. Good to know and thank you for this info. I know Wal-Mart is notorious for this. I Once heard mandarin oranges come from China only. It seems quite odd to me. hmmmm.......Grocery prices are out of sight. I am frustrated by all of it. I shop at King Soopers also known as Dillons and Krogers too. It is hard to find good prices anymore.I sure appreciate the bar code info.

Thanks my friend. :-)
