Another Teeny Post

November 30, 2016

Good morning.  Goodness it is hectic around here.  Once again I tried to take care of my health insurance, and once again they say they are too busy and for me to call back later.  A great way to do business, I must say!

Pogo's hair stylist just called to say she had a cancellation and can I bring Pogo in now.  Yes I can, but I need time to get dressed.  I'm a bit slow in that department.

Yesterday my doctor took new xrays and put a splint on my hand and wrist.  It seems there is a small crack in my wrist, along with a lot of bruising and my arthritis.  Oh goodie, goodie.  I guess my hand will be out of order for quite a while.

Now I have to get dressed and take Pogo to the beauty salon.  I will be back in the morning.  Don't forget, tomorrow starts the Worldwide Christmas Scrapbooking Freebie event.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Just A Short Post

November 29, 2016

Good afternoon.  (for six more minutes!)  It's been a busy morning for me.  I spent quite a while on the phone being passed around from one office to another, while trying to enroll in a new health insurance program for next year.  In the end, I was told that I will have to call back later today or tomorrow morning because they are so busy right now.

Next I called my orthopedic doctor's office to see if he was in and if he could possibly see me before next week.  They kept trying to set me up with an appointment with another doctor, but I refused and in the end, I got an appointment for this afternoon with my own doctor.

This will have to be a short post because typing is very painful right now.  My wrist and hand seem to be getting worse each day, not better.  Getting dressed or undressed, washing and drying dishes, cutting Pogo's food up small, etc., are all very difficult and take me a long time now.  By the time I'm finished with any of these things, I need a pain pill but I don't take one.

I do have a couple photos of a beautiful Fall bouquet from a few years ago.  I love the colors in this one.

Now I'm done typing for today.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Visiting With Friends Is Good For The Soul

November 28, 2016

Good morning.  Have you noticed that we are already running out of November?  Gosh, this year has flown by so quickly.  Ooooooooh!  No, I'm not getting excited over the date.  I've just finished scratching my back with my skinny wooden back scratcher.  Ooooooooh!  Ahhhhhhhh!

This morning, Pogo and I have to go out to run some errands.  First we'll go to the bank, then we'll go to the Post Office.  On the way home, we'll stop at the Town Hall and pay taxes.  That's probably about all the running around I'll be able to handle today.

My arm is achy, but healing.  My wrist doesn't feel as if it is any hurry to get better.  I have an appointment next Monday with my orthopedic doctor, but I may call to see if he can see me this week instead.  It's getting rather difficult to do much of anything without the use of my left hand.  Maybe while I'm out I'll stop and pick up a new wrist brace to see if that will help.

Yesterday, my friend Ellen came by and we had a wonderful visit.  We worked together for years, and she's a really nice person.  I haven't seen her since last Spring, so we had lots to catch up on.  Pogo loves women, so of course he was enjoying her company.

Last night, I took out some yarn to start a new project, but my left hand was not cooperating, so I just watched TV instead.  My two youngest great granddaughters should be walking by next Spring so I dug out a cute poncho pattern to make for them.  Maybe I can make a little dress to go with the poncho.  Here's a picture of the child's poncho.  (minus that bit of scrap hanging off the bottom of the front)

I also found this interesting adult poncho pattern.  I like that this one can be worn two different ways.

And here's another pretty interesting poncho.  This one would be great for a Spring or early Summer event.

Well, time is flying and I must get dressed and go do my errands.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Company Coming. Can't Chat Too Long.

November 27, 2016

Good morning.  The sun is shining and the temperature is 38F degrees.  Tonight's temp may go below 30 degrees.  Is it Spring yet???

These past two days were quiet, but I did accomplish one project.  I finished the Flamingo afghan Friday night.  The sad part is that now my hands somehow feel a bit empty without a hook and yarn in them.  I have a couple good coupons, so maybe Pogo and I will go shopping for some new yarn.  We'll see.

Today I'll have to review the new insurance plan that I'm thinking of signing up for, and then fill in the forms and get them in the mail tomorrow.  I only have a week left to get enrolled in a new plan.  Tomorrow I'll have to make sure my orthopedic doctor accepts the new plan before I can mail my papers off.

A friend has just called to say that she is on her way here to visit, so I won't chat here very long.  I want to wash the breakfast dishes before she gets here.  Joe must be in the laundry room doing his wash because Pogo is barking up a storm.

I found a couple adorable cartoons on the web that I thought I might share.  This first one is just adorable.  Ever feel this way?  haha.  I love these Minions!

This next cartoon really hit home.  There are some days where this would fit me to a tee!  I have very little patience with stupidity, and even less with disrespect.  Nuff said!

Now I really must get busy cleaning up the dishes before my friend gets here.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Orange Is Such A Happy Color

November 25, 2016

Good morning.  Goodness, it must have rained a bit during the night because everything outside is looking a bit wet.  Tis a great morning to watch TV.  Pogo and I are watching "The Cat In The Hat Knows About Christmas."  Hmmm, I haven't seen this one before.

Well, I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day.  Pogo and I enjoyed a very restful day, with good food, nice folks and a "All In The Family" marathon on TV.  We have a channel called Antenna TV, and it has all the wonderful old TV programs.  Yes, we definitely had a fantabulous day.

Deanne and Eddie are still quite sick with a flu or a nasty cold, while in Virginia, Audrey's granddaughter seems to have caught a sick bug too.  These viruses are everywhere, so hopefully most folks have already had their flu and pneumonia shots.  I'm hoping that my family gets well soon.

I don't have any new photos, so I went into my 2010 archives and found these photos of a beautiful Thanksgiving bouquet.  Is it any wonder why I love the color orange so much?  It looks so warm and happy!

Back when I was working, the Mrs always had such wonderful flower bouquets.  She was a really wicked person, but folks always kept sending her flowers.

Today I'm going to do........well, here's an image I borrowed from the web that says it all.

Some days I think I accomplish more because I don't start out with a list of things I need to do.  I'd like to finish the Flamingo afghan this weekend.  I only have about eighteen more rows to go till it is done.  I also have a bit of wrapping to do.  Daughter Audrey has a birthday coming up in less than a week and I want to get her package in the mail.

My new cards and calendars will be here in another week or so, and I'll have to get busy and start addressing envelopes.   Goodness, this year is spinning by ever so quickly.  Before you know it, we'll be waking up to a new year.  Of course, that will mean that Spring will only be seventy nine days away!  (right now it is only 114 days away)

My elbow is healing, but my wrist has been giving me all sorts of grief.  I have an appointment to see my orthopedic doctor a week from next Monday.  Hopefully, my wrist will be better by then.  The eczema flare-up  that I've had recently is starting to look better since I've been using this new medicine.  Thank goodness most of it has been on my arms so it's easy to put the medicine on it.

That's about all the news I have for today.  Now I think I should get busy and wash a few dishes.  So, till Sunday, Y'all have a fantabulous weekend.

Hugs, Edna B.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

November 24, 2016

Good morning.  Tis quite cloudy here and 36F degrees.  The weather forecast says we might even make it up to 40 degrees by noon.  Sounds like a good day to stay in and crochet and watch TV.  Some of the dwarfs have already gone to be with their relatives, while others have gathered in the kitchen to start preparing a turkey dinner.

I have a different sort of rooming house.  Everyone cooks and eats in the big kitchen, and a lot of the dwarfs gather in the den to watch TV together.  We all look after each other and celebrate life together, just like a family.

Today is a day for giving thanks for our family and friends, everything we have, and every new day.  I am very thankful for all my many blessings.  This morning, my little Pogo licked my cheek.  This is a special blessing because for most of his life no one ever kissed this little fellow or showed him any love at all.  I spoil him shamelessly, and enjoy every bit of it.

While surfing the web,I found a list of  human foods to show what dogs can and cannot eat, and thought it might come in handy today.  If you click on the image, the printing will be bigger and easier to read.

Last night, I spent some time online making a Christmas gift for someone special on my list.  It took most of the evening to get it finished but I am quite pleased with it.  Needless to say, I did not do any crocheting last night.  When I finished my gift project, it was time to curl up under my blanket and call on the Sandman.

Before I take my leave now, I have a Thanksgiving Card for all of you.  Pogo and I wish you all a Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving Day.

Now I'm going to watch a bit of TV and work on my afghan for a while.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Two Big Projects Finished!!

November 23, 2016

Good morning.  It's 39F degrees and sunny, with a little bit of wind.  There are a few straggling yellow leaves left on the big maple trees out front, but I'm sure this wind will bring down a lot of them.

Well, yesterday turned out to be a very accomplishing day.  I finished choosing and resizing all the photos for the calendar, then I designed my new Christmas card.  Actually, I made three different ones before finally choosing one to use.  It only took me almost four hours to do this.

Next, I went online to Vistaprint and ordered all my cards and calendars.  Woo Hoo!!  And the best part?  I had a coupon for a huge discount off my entire order.  Double Woo Hoo!!  Needless to say, I was a very happy camper last night.

After supper, I enjoyed a phone chat with a friend, then I worked on the Flamingo afghan.  The TV was entertaining, and I managed to put quite a few rows on the afghan before giving in to sleep.  Now there are only twenty four more rows to go till it is finished.  It looks like this coral beauty will be able to make it to its new home in time for Christmas.

I did not get around to taking cuttings from my plants yesterday, so I'll do it today.  I'll have to because the plants are sitting on my washing machine, and there'll be no laundry done until I finish getting the cuttings.

Today I also want to do some serious wrapping.  I need to have one package ready to go out in the mail next Monday.  There's more taxes due to be paid that day too.  Here's hoping the weather is good that day.    Pogo does not like being out in the rain.

Today's quick page is a simple one that I made using the "Giving Thanks" collab kit.  I hope you can use it.

Well, now it's time for me to get busy around here.  By the way, did I mention how delicious my turkey salad was, is?  Oh yum, yum, yum!  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Getting A Late Start Today

November 22, 2016

Good morning.  (even though it's almost afternoon)  Methinks that winter has set in.  Today's temps aren't expected to get out of the 30's.  Yes, the sun is shining, but it is still cold outside.  Brrrr!

Yesterday I worked on finding photos for my calendar.  I'm almost there.  I just need to pick out three more photos then I can make the calendar.  I'll try to finish this project later today so I can start on my Christmas cards.

I also looked up some information on my Calibrachoa plants to find out if they were perennials or annuals.  Their labels did not have that information, and I thought they were annuals.  Well, surprise, surprise!  They are perennials! These plants are all in pots, and unfortunately the freezing cold at night has killed off all the flowers and a lot of the stems.

The information I found on the web said that I could take cuttings from them, place them in water till they rooted, then plant the new seedlings in soil.  So, last night Joe brought the plants indoors, and later today I'll see about taking some cuttings.

When I took my turkey out of the refrigerator yesterday, I found that it was all thawed out, so I cleaned it and put it in a turkey bag (inside a pan of course) and popped it in the oven.  Once it was cooked, I let it cool and then sliced most of the meat off it.  Aside from keeping some out for our supper and a salad, I bagged and froze the rest of the meat for a future salad.  So, guess what I'm having for lunch today???

I found a turkey cooking chart online that I thought I would share here for those of you who might need to know how long to cook your turkey.

Last night, I feel asleep early, and woke up super early this morning.  Pogo and I had breakfast, and then I went back to bed shortly after seven a.m. to catch a few more winks.  This explains why I am posting so late today.  Now I really must get busy here and see about finishing off my calendar project.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

So Much To Do, So Little Time

November 21, 2016

Good morning.  Tis another grayish day here, with temps in the 30's.  However, the sun does try to peek out from behind the clouds every now and then.  We may even be "blessed" with a few sprinkles of snow or rain sometime today or tonight.

Gosh, how long is this arm supposed to stay sore before it mends?  Inside the elbow and the wrist hurt the most.  Trying to let the arm hang down straight, or trying to turn the arm over a bit doesn't exactly feel super good.  I'm so glad that I did not need to have a cast or splint put on.  That probably would have made the arm more uncomfortable once the cast/splint was removed.

Well, last evening, I put a few more rows on the flamingo afghan.  I'm past the half done mark, with only about forty one more rows to go to finish it.  Woo Hoo!  I just realized that I'm at the end of November and I haven't even designed my Christmas cards, or picked out the photos for my calendar.  Oh dear!!!  So much to do, so little time!  I guess we know what I'll be doing this week.

I've had to dig into my archives again for some photos to share.  I love taking photos of the sky and the clouds, so here are a couple really pretty ones.

I also dug out a pretty photo of a butterfly enjoying a pretty pink butterfly bush.  Sadly, I did not see very many of these butterflies this year.

In a little while I need to take my turkey out of the refrigerator to see if it has thawed yet.  If not, I'll leave it out on the counter for a while before putting it back in the refrigerator.  I'd like to cook it tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest.  Daughter Deanne is going to be making me a cheesecake for Thanksgiving.  Yum yum yum!

Well, now I think I'd best be getting busy on a few things around here.  At some point, I need to get dressed and go to the bank.  The bills are wanting to be paid.  Of course!  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

It's Time To Buy Your Turkey

November 20, 2016

Good morning.  Tis looking a bit dismal outside this morning.  The weather forecast for today and the next two days calls for temps in the low 40's and night temps below freezing.  Not exactly my cup of tea.  Thank goodness I have lots of crafts to work on till Spring gets here.

Last evening, I finally finished the turquoise afghan.  Yeaaaaah!  Who knows, maybe I can finish the flamingo afghan soon too.  I only have fifty six more rows to go on it.  After that, I'm already picking out colors for the next couple of afghans.  Plus, I dug out my pattern for a crocheted toddler sized dress.  I think I'd like to make a couple of these for Spring.  Our last two babies will both be walking by then.

There will be no work done on the porch screen panels this weekend because both Eddie and Deanne have caught wicked colds.  Maybe next weekend, we'll see.  If push comes to shove, I can cover the front panels with a heavy duty plastic temporarily until we can make the regular weather panels.  Maybe during the week, Pogo and I will take a ride to Home Depot and buy the plastic.

Have you all bought your turkey for Thanksgiving?  I bought mine a few days ago, and it has been in the refrigerator thawing.  It's not a big one, just big enough for Pogo and me to have a meal, then I will bag the rest for salad.  Yum yum.

I don't think I mentioned this earlier, but I will be participating in the Worldwide Christmas Scrapbooking Freebies event again.  On December 1, I will post my contribution along with a link to the website where you will find all the other freebies.

I haven't been out taking any new photos lately, so I dug into my scrap archives and found a scrap kit from 2011, when my friend Su and I first started making collab kits.  This is just my part of the kit.  If you can use it, here are the previews and the links.

Here are the download links:

I will contact my friend Su to see if she still has the links to her portion of the kit.  If she does, and wants to share them, I'll post them at a later date.

********I've had to take a break here to tend to things in the main house.  And, now I have to get back out there to keep an eye on things for a while.  On that note, I'll take my leave.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

The Eyes Have It!!

November 18, 2016

Good morning.  Well, the sun is shining, and it's 53F degrees.  It will probably warm up to about 57 degrees by early afternoon.  Actually, it's quite a nice Autumn day.

Well, this week's doctor appointments have turned out fairly good.  The eye doctor says my eyesight is excellent.  20/20.  So, hopefully in the next few days, I'll get me a new pair of glasses.  I wear bi-focals (for reading) with transitional lenses to protect my eyes from lights.  I could get away with wearing reading glasses from the drug store, but they wouldn't keep the light from my eyes.

My regular doctor checked my blood pressure and said it is back to normal.  It was running quite high from when I fell over the weekend, but that's to be expected.  He also gave me enough Advair to help me make it to January.  Thank you, thank you.

Recently, I got a three month supply of my Advair.  My co-pay was quite high (almost $700), and I only got to use one of the inhalers.  It seems that I had set the bag with the other two inhalers on my counter.  At some point, it must have been moved and has never been found since.  I have turned everything upside down but have not found it.  I could chalk this up to my own stupidity, but it wouldn't matter if I couldn't breath.  Unfortunately, the insurance does not allow another refill until the three months is up.

I went into my archives again, looking for a photo to share.  This one is how the sky looked in the morning shortly after day break.  I was at work when I took this photo on November 11, 2012 at 7:28 am.  The sky was just so beautiful that morning.  It looked like a watercolor painting.

I also found another favorite photo of mine.  This next photo is my little Pogo, five months after he came to live with me. (November 30, 2012)  I was at work, and of course, he was with me.  How can anyone not love this little guy?  All three pounds of him!!  I've fattened him up a bit since then.  Now he weighs five pounds.

Aside from going to pick up a couple groceries, I'm staying in all day with my little guy.  Joe is going shopping later with one of the dwarfs and will pick up some spring water for me.  My arm is a bit sore today, so I won't be doing much of anything else.

Well that's my news for this morning.  So, till Sunday, Y'all have a fantabulous weekend.

Hugs, Edna B.

How Different Nature Is One Year From Another

November 17, 2016

Good morning.  Tis a bit dreary outside this morning.  The temperature is 51F degrees, and will probably reach the mid 50's later on.  I would rather stay indoors today, but I do have to go out this afternoon for a semi-annual check up with my regular doctor.

Have any of you with a blog noticed a difference?  There is a notice on my blog that says the "http" in my address has changed to "https" and I think it has to do with security.  Not really sure.  I shall look it up later on Google.

My cell phone is weird today too.  There's a black circle with an "x" in it on my screen.  I don't know what it is about, and it makes it difficult to text, as it gets in the way of the letters.  I'll have to call Best Buy later to find out what it is all about.  I would call now, but they don't open for another half hour.

A couple days ago, while it was raining, I noticed that most all the leaves had fallen from my Red Japanese Maple tree.  The ground below it was covered in bright red leaves.  It was sooo pretty that I grabbed my phone to take a few photos.  This is the view from my porch.  (leaning over the gate)

I went into my archives and found this photo (of the same tree) taken four years ago on November 19th.  It still had all of its leaves.  Amazing how each year is so different.

Quite a difference, huh?  I guess the same can be said about the flowers.  Some years they are still blooming the beginning of December, and other years they are not.  Right now, there are still a few petunias blooming, as well as some of my roses.  Not many though, just enough to show a bit of color.

Some of my favorite old re-run programs on TV have been changed, so I've had to go looking for another channel with old programs.  I found one called "MeTV".  This morning I've been watching an old episode of Perry Mason.  This program was one of my favorites in its day.  Next up will be "Matlock," another great old program.

Ah well, I have a few things to do before I get ready for my appointment, so I'd best get busy.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Such A Lovely Way To Start My Day

November 16, 2016

Good morning.  Tis a lovely Autumn day here in my little part of New England.  Temps are in the mid 50's and the sun will pop in and out most of the day.  This is good because  I have an appointment this afternoon with my eye doctor.  I would love to get a new pair of glasses.  The pair that I'm wearing are almost as old as I am.  haha.

This morning I found a beautiful surprise in my email box.  My friend Beth made a beautiful scrap layout for me.  I love it, Beth.  Thank you.  It put a huge smile on my face to start my day.

Well, yesterday was a busy day for me.  I was feeling rather creative, and finished my bracelets that I need for Christmas.  I just have to pick up one more bracelet box, and then wrap all of them.  Then last evening I spent almost three hours on my laptop creating a new quick page.

Why does it take me so long to make a quick page?  Well, when I get an idea in my head, I sometimes spend a very long time trying to change the elements to match my idea.  It took me a couple hours just to figure out how to put my little Zlata's broken elbow in a sling.  First I had to find a sling that would fit her.  Then I had to break her little arm and rearrange it to fit in the sling.  Not to worry folks.  She'll be just fine in a few weeks.

Here is your download link:

Maybe today on the way home from my appointment, I can stop and pick up another skein of the yarn that I need to finish the turquoise afghan.  Meanwhile, the flamingo afghan is coming along nicely.  I have only sixty two more rows to go and this one will be finished too.

Goodness, my arms and hands are beginning to look as though I've been beat up.  The bruising is covering a much larger area than it did on Saturday.  Even the palm of one hand is turning purple.  The aches are lasting longer now too.  Hopefully this means that everything is healing.

Next week is Thanksgiving already!!!  I will have to go grocery shopping this weekend and pick up a turkey.  It's not that I'm crazy for turkey.  I'm not.  But I do love turkey salad.  So, I cook my bird, let it cool, and then shred it all apart.  I bag it in amounts that are just right for salads, and freeze it.  Of course, Pogo and I will have a meal or two from it too.

Well, that's my news for today.  Now I have some dishes waiting to be washed.  This is a bit tricky, but Pogo can't reach the sink to do this so I'll just take my time and hopefully get them all clean.  On that happy note, I'll take my leave.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a magnificent day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Learning New Ways To Do Things

November 15, 2016

Good morning.  Tis 48F degrees and cloudy right now.  By this evening, temps will be up to the mid 50's.  Overnight temps are supposed to stay in the 40's.  However, it's supposed to be wet all day.  Well, that's okay.  We can certainly use the rain.

I want to thank everyone for their good wishes.  I'm doing okay, just a bit slower.  I have figured out how to cut Pogo's meat without putting any pressure on my left arm.  I just press the plate against the microwave so it won't move about, keep a finger from my left hand on the meat and cut with the right hand.  My folks always told me that where there's a will there's a way.  Most of the time, that works out to be true.

Last evening I managed to put a few rows on the turquoise afghan.  I only have ten more rows to go but I ran out of yarn.  Imagine!  Scumpty nine hundred skeins of yarn in my yarn totes (well it seems that way!) and I run out of the color I am using!!  Well, I'll have to pick up another skein of the yarn so that I can finish the afghan this week.

In between things, I've been working on the Flamingo afghan.  Oooh my, is it ever pretty!!  I'm hoping to finish this afghan before the holidays too.  When it is finished, I think I'll work on some more lapghans.  They work up much quicker.

Today I have to get a batch of bills out in the mail.  Other than that, I'm not sure what I'll be up to.  My arm gets sore really easy, so I won't be doing a lot of anything.  I do have a TV program that I've been recording and need to put on disc, so maybe I'll do that.

I have an image to share with you.  This one is from one of the calendars that I get in the mail.  I just think that the fox is simply gorgeous.  Don't you agree?

Well, that's my news for today.  It's time for me to get these bills out in the mailbox before the mailman gets here.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall

November 14, 2016

Good morning.  Yesterday was my day for a little rainfall.  SIL Eddie and his friend Cliff were here working on the winter panels for my porch, and I was outside walking over to Eddie to talk with him.  Whammo!  Now here's the rain!!  I fell down and landed on my arm.

Thank goodness I was right near Eddie.  He helped me up and checked my arm to see if it looked broken.  It did not.  I went back indoors, holding my arm close to me.  I must say it certainly did smart just a little bit.  Once a little time went by, I realized that the arm really did hurt quite a bit, and I could not use it.

Daughter Deanne showed up soon after and drove me to the Emergency Room.  It was not crowded, so I did not have to wait very long.  After some exrays, the doctor told me that I had broken my elbow.  It's a clean break though, and will not need surgery.  This break will heal itself with time.  They sent me home with a sling and told me to see my orthopedic doctor soon as possible.

*****I took a short break here because my orthopedic doctor said he could see me this morning.  He said that I won't need a cast, and to use my sling only when I'm around other people so that they won't bump into, or grab, my arm.  I can use my arm (it needs motion) but I'm not to lift anything heavier than a cup of coffee.  No pushing, opening or closing doors with the arm either.  I go back to the doctor again in three weeks.

This is good news because it is really tricky getting dressed or undressed (and most everything else) with only one arm.  Thank goodness this has all happened to my left arm.  I am right handed, so I would be in deep doo doo if it had happened to my right arm.  It takes me longer, but I can still cut up Pogo's food.  To type, I just set my left hand on the key pad and let my fingers do the walking when I need to type those letters.  Easy peasey!

Last night, I had so wanted to take photos of the supermoon.  Unfortunately, I could not use my arm and so that meant that I could not use my Canon camera.  Instead, I went out on the porch after midnight, and took a few photos with my cell phone.  I'm not really great taking photos with my phone with only one hand, so I leaned my hand and phone against the corner post (on my porch) for stability to take some photos.  This was the view from my porch.

Ah well, if I can hang in there till I'm ninety five years old, I'll have another chance to photo this supermoon.  So there's still hope!!

On the way home from the doctor's office, I stopped by Burger King to pick up some lunch for Pogo and me.  The only cooking I'll be doing for a while will be for Pogo's meals.  I have plenty of frozen meals in the freezer so I'm okay.

Now I want to get back into my jammies and get comfortable in my lounge chair.  I want to see if I can crochet comfortably.  I still have that turquoise afghan to finish. I think I proscratinated about working on it a bit too long or it would have already been finished.

Well, that's my news for today.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a super day.

A Big Beautiful Moon Tonight And Tomorrow Night

November 13, 2016

Good morning.  It's another lovely Autumn day with temps rising to the mid 50's today.  The sun is shining and the air is crisp.  I could handle this all Winter.  (no, I'm not smoking the funny stuff!)  I'm a dreamer, I know.  But it would be nice, wouldn't it?

Yesterday, Pogo and I went with SIL Eddie to Home Depot to check out my options for closing the porch for the winter.  I guess I drove him crazy, but as long as I'm paying the bill I believe I should have as close to what I want as possible.  So we kept going up one aisle and down another until I was convinced that what we had picked out would work and still look okay.

While we were there, I bought myself a couple of tools that I always seem to need around here and don't have.  I bought a circular saw, a new blade for it, a heavy duty stapler and a couple boxes of staples to use with it.  I also picked up a Christmas present for someone, and it is now tucked away in the gift drawer.

This morning, Eddie and his friend Cliff will meet up at Home Depot to pick up the materials that we picked out yesterday.  I paid for everything, and the store would hold the materials for us to pick up this morning.  Hopefully, they can get the back and side of the porch done today.  Next weekend, we can (hopefully) get the front of the porch done.

Last evening, I got a really nice treat.  The orange jasmine plant that I bought a few weeks ago has its first blossom.  Boy, when this plant get thicker and bigger, it will be gorgeous!

Later, as I was dozing off, dwarf Helen called me to show me a photo she had just taken of the moon that was quite visible from our yard.  So I went outside to see if I could get a few shots.  I used my cell phone, but tonight I'll take my Canon camera outside to see if I can get a really nice shot.  However, I find this photo that I got with my cell phone quite pleasing.  Not of the moon itself, but the overall photo.

The full moon of November 14, 2016 is not only the biggest, closet and brightest supermoon of this year, it's the closest supermoon since January 26, 1948.  For us in the Americas, the moon will be closest to the earth tonight.  (Nov. 13)   The moon won't come this close to Earth again until November 25, 2034.  So make sure you get out and have a look at this beautiful moon.

Now it's time for me to get dressed so that I'm ready for when the guys get here to start work on the winter panels for my porch.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Happy Veterans' Day

November 11, 2016

Good morning.  This morning is sunny and 53F degrees.  Tis a great day to celebrate honor all the men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces.

This day traces its origins back to the end of World War I.  On November 11, 1918, an armistice between the U.S.-led Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.  Though the war wasn't officially over until the Treaty of Versailles was signed seven months later, the November 11 is recognized as the end of the "war" to end all wars," according to the Veterans Administration.

In November 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of what was then known as Armistice Day.  The day was originally celebrated with parades and a brief suspension of business at 11 a.m.  Congress officially recognized the day with a resolution passed on June 4, 1926.

It was then that the day, November 11, was officially recognized as the date of the holiday.  Almost thirty years later, after U.S. soldiers had served in World War II and Korea, Congress voted to change the name from Armistice Day to Veterans Day in honor of all those who served in the military.   (information copied from web)

This morning, I did get up bright and early, and spent some time on my laptop making a new quick page for today.  So many things have been happening around here lately, that I haven't had time to make any new QP's.  We are very patriotic in my family, so I thought I'd let Lola and her little friend show off their adorable flag outfits that they are wearing in the Veterans' Day parade.

A couple days ago, as I was leaning over the gate on my porch, I realized how beautiful my view was, so I grabbed my phone and took this photo.  Folks, it doesn't get better than this!

Yesterday, Pogo, dwarf Helen and I went shopping.  We did a lot of browsing and a bit of shopping.  We were able to get a bit of our Christmas shopping done, and I got a bag of soil for my new plants.  Today I'll get them into new pots.  Hopefully, I can keep them growing till next Spring when they can go outside.

While we out, I stopped in at the Post Office to have my passport photo taken.  I need to send it along with my Utah license application.  Wowsie, they make you take off your glasses, and you're not allowed to have anything in your hair.  (bows, ribbons, etc.)  No smiles, etc.  You can't show anything to distract from the face.  It's been a long time since I've had a passport, and there are lots of new rules.  So here I am in all my glory.

Now I think I'd best get busy around here.  There's a few things to do before I can play in the new plant dirt.  So, till Sunday, Y'all have a fantabulous weekend.

Hugs, Edna B.

A Fun Exam For You

November 10, 2016

Good morning.  Last evening, I had a glass of beer with my supper, and an hour later I was happily snoozing in my lounge chair.  I snoozed the rest of the evening and most of the night.  I was up early this morning, bright eyed and bushy tailed.  (I really don't have a tail, it's just an expression)

For most of the morning I've been watching Fox News, listening to everyone's views about the outcome of the election.  Two things bother me.  The first is the horrid way the protesters are behaving.  There's a difference between protesting, and committing violent acts against other folks and their property.  I think they should all be ashamed of themselves.  I think they should have to pay for all the damage they have caused to other folks' properties, and they should also have to do community service for at least one hundred hours.

The second thing that bothers me is all the political voting statistics.  Unless the people quoting these statistics actually spoke to every voter as to their race, religion, income, age, and voting preference, how do gather their figures?  Unless they have checked each individual ballot, and checked it against the voter who cast it, just how do they know how many Latinos voted for which candidate?  How many Blacks voted for each candidate?  How many Whites?  How many working class people?  How many Evangelists?  How many ..whatever?   People, no one signs their name on their ballots at the polls!!!  (only the early voters in some communities sign their ballot envelopes.) There are no questions on the ballots asking people to describe themselves!!!

I always thought that voting was a private matter, and that no one had access to who voted for which candidate or issue.  Has this privacy issue been done away with?  Or maybe I've missed something along the way?

Today is cool, but sunny.  So, Pogo and I and one of the dwarfs are all going shopping in a little while.  Or should I say browsing?  Either way, it will be a fun outing.  I want to pick up a small bag of planting soil.  I bought a new plant, a Bird Of Paradise, and I want to get it planted today.  I can't wait to see how pretty it will be when it blooms.

I also want to have a look around for some ideas for Santa.  He's wanting a bit of help this year with ideas for gifts for different folks on his list.  I really like this part.  It's fun choosing things that will make other folks happy.

I received an email from a friend a few days ago that I thought would be fun to share here.  This is an Eye Exam, and the email read:

The School of Psychology, University of Pennsylvania conducted a survey called "What
Do You Really See?"  People were asked to focus their attention on this simple picture, and then
asked if they had noticed anything odd.

Now you also have a chance to test your skills and see if you can pass......Study the picture for
five seconds.  What did you notice?

Here are the results of the survey:  (1) 100 % of males failed this test.  They were distracted by the
woman's large bosom.   (2) 100 % of the females also failed this test.  They were distracted by the
     wide choice of doughnuts.

Can you pass this eye test?  Here's the picture.

Now it's time for me to get dressed so that we can all get started on our busy shopping spree.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day,

Hugs, Edna B.

p.s.  Here's the answer to the Eye Exam.

There's a mouse on one of the doughnuts.....now don't tell me you saw it.  I won't believe you!!

We Have A New President Elect!!

November 9, 2016

Good morning.  Yup, there's still a little bit of morning left.  At 8:30 this morning, I said to Pogo "just let me have a another half hour of sleep and I'll get your breakfast."  Well, the half hour turned into two and a half hours!  And boy oh boy, I needed that sleep.

I stayed up most of the night following the election results, and was rewarded with my candidate winning.  I've kept quiet through the whole campaign about my choice, but now it's okay to speak up and cheer for President Elect, Donald Trump.  No matter who you voted for, it is now time to come together and help our new president achieve his goals for our country and our people.

I took the first two photos from the TV at 2:43 this morning.  I borrowed the last photo from Google.

Right now, I've been listening to Hillary Clinton give her concession speech to her followers and the nation.  So, it's finally over.  This election race made history for a lot of reasons.  Now I'm waiting to hear what the president has to say.  This should be interesting.  I'm hoping that he can be as gracious as both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have been with their speeches.

The fuel oil truck has just pulled into the yard, so I think I should go.  Pogo is going crazy to get out on the porch and scare the man away.  haha.  Goodness, his ferocious bark can chase away every stranger who comes into our yard.  He's a very good guard doggie.

On this note, I'll take my leave.  Now that the fuel has been delivered, Pogo and I can go out to do a couple errands.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Spring Countdown Has Begun

November 8, 2016

Good morning.  Today's weather is quite lovely; sunny and warm (in the low 60's).  It's a gorgeous Autumn day.  After today, the cooler temps are back.  I guess now is a good time to start my Spring countdown.  Only 131 more days till Spring!!

Last evening, Deanne and I went to Aunt Lucy's wake.  While we were there, I got to meet another of her sons (my cousin) and one of his daughters.  He gave me his phone number so that we can stay in touch.  I should explain here that when I was quite young (around seven or eight), my mother separated us from the rest of our families.  Before this, we had lots of aunts and uncles and cousins.  By the time my brother and I had grown up, we were sort of alienated from everyone.

The day I read about my Aunt Lucy in the newspaper, (over a year ago) I felt a deep need to re-connect with her.  To be honest, she said that she felt the same way.  My time with her in my life was very short, but it was beautiful.  So getting to meet up with one of her sons felt really good.

When we left the wake, Deanne and I headed for our Gun Safety and Law class.  The class was quite long, (four hours)  but very educational.  Everyone was finger printed again and we all got to fill out our application for the Utah - thirty four state gun permit.  Before we can mail these applications, we have to get a passport photo and copies of other licenses to include with them.  So that will be my project for this week.

Poor little Pogo must have thought that I had run away from home.  I've never left him home alone for this many hours.  But he was good, and when I got home I found him all snuggled up in the lap blanket on my lounge chair.  After lots of hugs and kisses, I cooked him a hamburger for a late supper.

I borrowed this adorable Maxine cartoon from a friend's website because it really fits me to a tee.

Here's another cute image that I found on the web.  I think I'll have to make this one into a sign to post on my porch.

The morning is quickly passing, so I think I'd best get dressed and try to accomplish a few chores.  Maybe Pogo and I will go out to do a couple errands and enjoy this beautiful day.  On this happy note, I'll take my leave.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Old Man Winter Is Itching To Get Here!

November 7, 2016

Good morning.  It's sunny, but cold here, only 41F degrees.  I can't complain though, because it could be worse.  Early Saturday morning, we had a burst of "soft" hail come through here.  It was harder than snow but not quite ice.  Here are a couple photos I took of the "hail" on my car.

I guess this is a sign of things to come.  Old Man Winter is in a rush to get here.  Gosh, I hope he gets side-tracked and goes somewhere else.

Well, election time is finally here.  After tomorrow night, we'll know who the next president will be.  I would like to see us get rid of the "party" system and the delegate votes, and just let the people vote for the person they feel best suited for the job.  After all, isn't that supposed to be the reason why we vote anyway?

I also think that all votes, in every county, should be counted and matched against the number of "live" registered voters in that area.  This will stop any qualms about fraud.  Us early voters (in my area at least) had to sign our name on the envelope that we put our ballot in.  Then we sealed the envelope.  Some folks may not like the idea of signing their name on the envelope, but at least the officials know that we are alive.

This weekend I also took more photos of my trees.  They change so quickly now that every day brings a new look.  Lots of leaves are falling though, and pretty soon, these beautiful trees will be naked.

There are still some roses and a few petunias blooming, but the nights are quite cold now, so I don't know how much longer these blossoms can hang in there.  I always thought that by the time I reached this age, the weather systems might have changed, bringing the warmer winters to our area.  Hmmm, I'm a pretty good dreamer, huh?

Tonight, Deanne and I have the gun class to go to.  This one teaches what you need to know for a thirty four state LTC  (license to carry), and more gun safety and laws.  But first, I want to go to Aunt Lucy's wake that is being held late this afternoon.  Deanne will be picking me up after she gets out of work, and we will go together.

Well, Pogo and I have had our breakfast, and he is napping again.  I think I should get busy and do a few chores around here this morning.  There's a whole new batch of catalogues and junk mail to be gone through and put into the recycle bin.  Of course, the shred box is getting quite full again, so maybe I'll do a bit of shredding too.

On that happy (?) note, I'll take my leave.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fantabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Some Good News, Some Bad News

November 6, 2016

Good morning.  Tis a bit cloudy outside, and the temperature is 47F degrees.  Today we'll probably get up to around 50 degrees.  Next Tuesday looks like it will be our warm day this week, with a high temperature of around 61 degrees.  Outdoors looks like Sally Snowfall, only in yellow, red, orange and green instead of white.  There are leaves everywhere.  As soon as you pick them all up, they come down and cover everything again.

My grandson Kevin was here Friday, cleaning up all the leaves and storing the bags in the little shed.  He even made me a whole leaf bag full of mulch.  Today I will use the mulch to "winter over" my potted plants.  That is, if it doesn't rain, I will.  If it rains, maybe I'll wait till the rain stops before tending to the plants.

I want to wish everyone a huge thank you for making my birthday so wonderful.  I got beautiful cards, gorgeous flowers and even a balloon.  Yesterday, daughter Deanne came by with Janice, and took me out to lunch.  We had a wonderful time. The restaurant gave me my choice of desserts for my birthday, and I chose a hot fudge sundae.  When the sundae came, oh my!!!  it was huge, and had three spoons in it.  We tried, but could not finish it.  I must say though, that it was simply delicious!!  Here's a photo the waiter took of us.

And here are photo of my flowers.  Oh my, they really are gorgeous!

My friend Beth made this beautiful Birthday layout.  I have to laugh at all the little mice, considering I've been trying to chase one tiny mouse out of my house this past week.  Thank you Beth, I love it.

I also got some rather bad news yesterday afternoon.  I've been trying to reach Aunt Lucy by phone all week.  A few days ago, I left a message on her son's phone, asking if she was alright.  I did not get an answer back.  Yesterday afternoon, I called again, and one of her sons answered the phone to let me know that my auntie had passed away a few days ago.

I will miss my Aunt Lucy very much.  Our time together was very short, but I am so very thankful for the time we did have.  God Bless and watch over you Auntie.

Before I take my leave, let me remind everyone to set your clocks back an hour if you haven't already done so.  We're into Daylight Savings Time now.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.
