A New Sport For Our Seniors (And Younger Folks Too)

September 3, 2014

Good morning.  I have to say that quickly because soon it will be afternoon.  Yup, I did it again.  I tried my best to sleep away the morning.  Last night I was just sort of dozing a little bit at a time, so finally I opened one of my new books, "Samsung Galaxy S 5 for Dummies", and learned a little bit about my new smart phone.

When my eyes finally got tired, I put the book down, sprayed some "Fabreze Sleep Serenity" around the room, and tried again to get to sleep.  This time it worked.  But of course, by now it was getting close to 4 a.m.

For my friend, The Queen Jester, I have some wonderful news.  Her favorite sport, Pickleball, has finally come to New England.  According to the newspaper, this newest "sport for seniors" is a combination of tennis, badminton and table tennis.

Pickleball was invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island near Seattle.  Joel Pritchard, a congressman from Washington State, and Bill Bell, a businessman, were at the Pritchard home and saw that their families had nothing to do.  They searched for badminton equipment, but could not find a complete set of rackets.  They played instead with ping pong paddles and a perforated plastic ball.

According to the newspaper, Pickleball was most likely named after the Pritchards' dog Pickles who would chase the ball and run off with it.  The USA Pickleball Association estimates there are 100,000 players nationwide.

I really have no news other than this wonderful Pickleball stuff, so I'll post a few photos of my roses.  These are pink and red "Knockout" roses.

That's about it for today.  It's almost time to be thinking about what's for Pogo's lunch.  Figuring out his meals is becoming my newest "senior sport".  haha.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a fabulous day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Beautiful flowers. Maybe my husband and I should learn that sport, hah. Not falling asleep is no laughing matter. So tired of it. When I got sick I finally slept. Right now I think I could sleep all day. Hope it continues when I am back to normal.

Never heard of that sport!
Your roses are absolutely beautiful.
And now wonder that you sleep late int eh morning if you cannot fall alseep at night! I have periods like that too, but at the moment I sleep rather well at night, and even take a nap in the afternoon too.
Hope you will have better sleeping nights, it's sometimes coming with age, I guess, but not funny at all.
Have a good day and evening and wishing you a real good sleep this night!
