Perseid Meteor Showers Will Peak Tonight

August 12, 2014

Good morning.  I fell asleep during the evening while watching my TV shows, so that made it difficult to sleep past 4:30 this morning.  I finally decided to get up and maybe knit for a while on a scarf that I started a while ago.  Next I made scrambled eggs for Pogo and myself.   Mine were delicious, and Pogo has been doing a very good job of ignoring his.

I supposed in a way it's good that I'm up early because now I have time to post my blog leisurely before I get dressed.  I have a doctor appointment this morning, and I don't like rushing around before it's time to leave.

Remember I said that if I found a printed manual for the Canon PowerShot SX50 HS, that I would let you know about it?  Well, good news.  I found a company on-line that will print any manual you need for your camera  into book form.  They will also print any PDF you may have into a book form.

The company is Old Timer Cameras, and you can find them at:  http://www.oldtimercameras.com.  I ordered a copy of the manual for my camera (SX50 HS) and it cost a total of $29.90 U.S.  The company is in the UK.  The actual cost was $21.95 for the manual and $7.95 for postage.  The book arrived yesterday, nine days from the date I ordered it.  Not bad at all.

Today I have a few more photos from the other night.   This beautiful sweetie is dwarf Helen's granddaughter trying to make nice nice with Pogo.  She was so fascinated with him, and chatted away to him while he just looked on a bit bewildered.  I don't think he ever had the opportunity to learn baby talk.  However, this did not stop the two from having fun.

Next, I have a couple of shots of Pogo.  As you can see from his expression, he was enthralled at all the different people and dogs that were everywhere around us.

I have more photos of him but I haven't finished going through them all and cropping them to fit here.  I was a "shutter fool" that night and just kept clicking away.  Needless to say, I ended up with hundreds of photos.

In all fairness, I must admit that I took lots of photos for dwarf Helen of her family, and another large batch of photos for the lady sitting next to us.  I put hers on a disk and am mailing them to her today.

While we were waiting for the moon to rise, I kept trying to photograph some of the "ducks" that were flying by over the ocean.  They were quite a distance away and they looked sort of like ducks, so I figured they were ducks.

They flew by in one's and two's, and sometimes in flocks.  Once I got to look at my photos, I realized that they were not ducks.  They were cormorants.   Well, dang it all!  I wish I had been closer to them to get some really good shots, but here are three of the ones that I did get.

Tonight the heavens will be featuring a fabulous show of meteor showers.  Perseid Meteor Showers peaks tonight.  The best time to be able to see this will be the two hours before dawn.  The light from the super moon, and any bright lights near you may make it quite difficult to be able to see this spectacle.

We are expecting clouds and rain tonight, so I don't think we'll be able to watch this.  However, if it is clear in your area, it will be worth your while to watch for it, and maybe you'll be able to get photographs.  Good luck.

Well, that's all the news for this morning.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

It's been too cloudy here to see the super moon but the evening news had some spectacular photos of it to enjoy.

We got completely soaked yesterday! Maybe we will have some clear sky just before dawn? We're meeting my cousin tomorrow and will be up super early, so maybe we'll see them as we leave?

I'll try to remember to try to photograph them. :)
