It's Mandarin Orange Monday

November 11, 2013

It's almost time to say "Good Afternoon".  Needless to say, I slept in as late as I dared this morning.  After I fed Pogo his supper last night, I crawled into my comfy lounge chair with my own fuzzy blanket and promptly fell asleep.

There was really no point in putting on a TV program.  I knew I was going to fall asleep, so I put the Weather Channel on instead.  Throughout the night, I only got up for the necessary potty calls, and to change the pads under Pogo's Potty Patch.  If his patch isn't clean, he won't use it.  ( don't blame him)

It's not that yesterday was such a hard day.  It wasn't.  But it was hard on this old body.  Too much standing and walking without an opportunity to take a little nap in the middle.  I could not take a pain pill because they might make me sleepy and that just wouldn't do.  So, I've decided that I won't be doing any more day shifts.

I was able to address another batch of Christmas cards yesterday while the Mrs was napping.  So now, I think they are about three quarters done.  I would like to get them finished up this week.  In two weeks it will be Thanksgiving, and a couple days after that is December.  Talk about time flying by!  This year has just whizzed right by us!

Although most of the parades and celebrating took place over the weekend, today is Veterans Day here.  It 's a time to remember all the men and women who have given so much so that we may enjoy the life that we have.  A time to give thanks for the sacrifices that so many have made.  A time for prayers for those who gave their lives so that we may be free.

Today is Mandarin Orange Monday, and I saved a couple of my "orangey" photos for today.

We need to enjoy, and be thankful for all the beautiful color that we still have on our trees.  Pretty soon, all the trees will be bare, and the gorgeous colors will just be a memory to savor.  Folks, if you still have some colored foliage, get out there and enjoy it.

Now it's time for me to get busy here and make an attempt at accomplishing one or two things before the day gets away from me.  Today, I will set up the card table and get started wrapping things.  For some reason, the mailer boxes don't fill themselves.  I also need to start putting a program that I taped onto DVD's so that I can mail them to Audrey.  So, on that note, I will leave you.  Till tomorrow, be safe and have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

12 hours on your feet is a long time ... I don't blame you for being tired. I agree, day shift is too much when you get to our age. At least at home we have a choice about what we can and can't do ... and yes, there's that little nap option. One of the pleasures of old age :)

We are getting our first snow, as we speak. So far it is not sticking, but the little white fluffs are floating down past my window. Can't say I am happy to see them, but now I go into thinking ahead mode and wishing for spring. Actually that is not all true. I have to say that Izzi absolutly loves playing in the snow and we do have a lot of fun together when there is enough to play in ... I'm thinking it is the cold weather that goes with it that I could do without.

Nice words, Edna, for our Veterans. I think this country should do more than just set a day aside for them. We really need to do something about providing for them when they come home injured in so many different ways including emotionally or for the families who's loved ones don't come home at all. Washington and all of their need to cut the budget is cutting in the wrong places ... Vets need what they need and deserve better than what they are getting. Makes me sad!

Well, have to go to the bank and get some money. I have spent every red cent I had here in the house and can't go around being broke, though I rarely actually use cash. I'm a credit card person most of the time. Easier to keep track of my spending that way. You have a nice restful day, Edna ... and hugs to little Pogo.

Lovely fall colors in those trees. You're working too hard girl...it might be time to cut back a bit and enjoy life more.

So no more dayshifts for you, my friend! They are too straining on you and your body, and you need to get a bit more protective towards yourself!
We are at an age, the body protests more, needs longer time to recover and get bakck into "normal"working order, helas, but true.
Glad you had a good long sleep, that will set you back nicely to your feet LOL.
Did you know that in Belgium, the town of Ieper, EVERY day at about 8 oçlock in the evening there is blown The Last Post for the soldiers that lost their life in the 1st WW? Here a link to see and hear about it. It is very impressive!

Edna your tree is very much like Andrea's ...you are both so lucky to have such a colourful autumn. So many of our trees here are evergreens.
I can't imagine standing for 12 hours...lately I have been teaching casually and I need a sleep after standing for a three hour class! Age does catch up with us in some ways...but I still feel young inside:) ...if i forget my sore back, feet etc :))
Thanks for being part of Mandarin Orange Monday:)
