Sleepy Roses

June 3, 2013

It's 4:30 a.m. and the air is just too sticky for sleeping.  The temperature has cooled down nicely, but there's a lot of rain on the way in.  We have a flash flood warning now for the  towns a bit further south from me.  Heavy rain and thunder storms are expected.  We can use the rain as long as it isn't real heavy.

Our heat wave seems to be over for now.  All this week our temps should be in the low to mid 70's F, and the nights will drop down into the low 60's and high 50's.  This will make for better sleeping.  At least for me.

I've been watching on the Weather Channel about the newest tornadoes that struck down in Oklahoma.  A lot of people were in their cars driving when the tornado struck, and quite a few people were killed.  When is this severe weather going to stop?

Early Sunday evening, I learned something new about my Kerri rose bush.  All the years I've had it, and I never noticed this before.  I took Pogo outside for a bit of fresh air and noticed that some of the petals on the little white blossoms were all curled up.  Then I noticed that most every blossom was all curled up.

Nighttime was setting in, and my rose bush was going to sleep.  Well how about that!  Once daylight comes, I will definitely go out to see if the blossoms all open up again.   Here's a photo of the blossoms open, and another photo showing the blossoms asleep.

Here's a photo I took of Pogo.  He was busy sniffing all the grass when several motorcycles drove by and caught his attention.  Absolutely everything fascinates Pogo.

I am hoping to get out to do a few errands in the next couple of days.  It feels like I've been cooped up indoors forever.  Pogo wants to go riding in the car, and I'd like to go visit the swan family.  Plus I have shopping to do and a few other things that I've had to neglect these past couple of weeks.  Hopefully, I'll be back to work by next weekend too.  That will feel good.

Now I think maybe I'll take another shot at sleeping.  The eyelids are beginning to droop nicely.  So till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

A sleeping beauty ... how very interesting. You said something else interesting about your Kerri Rose Bush ... it was yellow roses and reverted to root stock ... what does that mean. I guess I don't know much about roses, because I have never heard of this.

Your weather is much like ours only warmer when it is warm and warmer when it is cool. Our temperatures were in the high 30's to low 40's at night and barely in the 50's in the day all weekend. It was nice in a way because Izzi and I were at an Agility Trial and Izzi loves the cool weather and runs much better when she isn't trying to conserve to keep from being overheated. But, really? 40's in June. That is crazy weather.

I too feel terrible for the people in Okalahoma and all of the other places that have been ravaged with severe weather. I think it is something we are going to have to learn to live with because of the changing climate. Warmer weather means more severe storms ... sad but true. I just hope we can adjust to it in a way that protects our homes and people.

I love your MOM Kerri Rose pictures ... they are beautiful and the little orange stamen are so delicate. Your photography is really getting wonderful as I am still struggling to use my tablet. Hopefully, I will conquer it and be able to attend some classes with you.

I am really stiff and sore this morning. Izzi has moved up to the "Elite" level in Agility and we have to run hard and fast to make time on her courses. Oh my, this Old Poop is not used to that kind of exertion. I love it, but boy do I pay for it. Hopefully over time my conditioning will improve enough to avoid the after effects. We do have fun though and Izzi loves all of the attention she gets when she is out there. Well worth the effort.

Well, Edna, so glad you are starting to feel your old self again and Pogo too. You have a wonderful day ... hopefully not too much rain.

So it's like morning glories? I noticed that my crocuses do that too. My Noni had morning glories on her fence and she'd pop them in the evening when they were closed. It didn't hurt them, but the made a little "poof" sound and you could feel them pop. That was her inner child!

Pogo is so cute! You've given him the s3ecurity of being able to explore the world like a puppy!

The weather is crazy with the heat then cold, drought then floods and all the storms. I wonder if this is the new spring normal?

Speaking of normal, glad things are starting to get5 back to normal in your world! Rest up and get to 100% so you can have a couple of fun days before you go back to work. You know, that flu owes you!

Hugs, Nani

How interesting to see that a rose takes a little nap!
But there are more flowers that do so,did you know?
http://www.gardenguides.com/114523-types-flowers-close-night.html

I think there are even more species that do so, but there are also some, that only open at night!

Nature keeps amazing us, isn;t it?

You take all the time you need to recover fiorst completely from your bad cold.flue etc.!
and if weather stays warm enough you could take a little trip to the swans, why not?
Have a lovely day

Hello....no, I have not forgotten you, just been lots going on around here and I have not been online very much lately! I will have to remedy that real quick!!
I adore your photos, especially the yellow rose....my absolute favorite flower.
Catching up with your blogging, so glad you are feeling better AND your weather is cooperating with you. Pogo is so very cute in his harness and in Joe's arms too! Love the layout Kyra sent you, simply lovely.
This I will visit your photography site when I catch up here...sounds interesting.
I love Sugarbutt Designs too. I thank you so much for the lovely QPs. Your calendar looks great too (of course it's the yellow rose). I have noticed all the cacti around this area is in bloom with beautiful yellow and red flowers! I need to take a day and just go photograph some, but....time has a way of getting gone on me....LOL!
Wishing you and Pogo a terrific day and rest of the week! hugs, Mat
