Does Your Child Really Need To Carry A BB Gun?

April 9, 2013

It sort of doesn't feel right to say good morning this morning.  I'm watching the Weather Channel, and they are showing the wicked winter storms going on in the central and mid western part of the country.  They are dealing with snow, up to 24 inches in some places, hail, rain and thunder.  Well, my goodness, Happy Spring!

We are expecting some rain today, along with temps around 70 degrees F.   Right now, it's 48 degrees and cloudy.  Actually, they are forecasting some rain for every day this week.  Maybe this is why my cherry blossom tree is still naked.  In Washington, D.C. the cherry trees are in full bloom.  My tree is still just naked twigs.  Not one leaf even!

Yesterday, there was another incident in one our local elementary schools.  A boy brought a BB gun to school in his backpack.  I heard that he shot one girl on the school bus with it.  If that wasn't bad enough, he took the  gun right along into school with him and I think he shot someone there too with it.  This was just one of many incidents involving this same kid.

I'm not going to get up on my soap box and start a new rant about this.  I'm just plain disgusted about the whole thing.  I don't understand why his parents thought it was okay to buy the gun for him, and let him carry it about with him.  I don't understand why the law says it is okay for the kid to have the gun.  Or does it?  I don't know anymore.

Moms and Dads, if you really think that this is what your child should be carrying around with him or her, then I guess that explains partly why this world of ours is going to hell!  I watched a commercial a couple days ago on TV about - well, I can't even remember product was being advertised.  The woman in the ad was sitting at a table somewhere (like at McDonalds) and her top was mostly bare because she was breastfeeding an infant.  There is a new show on TV that explains that the "end of the world is now" and shows you what to expect.  A news anchor is talking about the sex education programs in pre-school.

I always thought I would like to live to be over 100 years and still enjoying my life.  Now I think it's time to re-think what I really want.  All this new stuff above is turning me off to life.  I think our children should spend more time in the classroom learning.  Mom, take your baby in the other room and nurse it in privacy.  I have the right to enjoy my meal too!

If doomsday really is coming, I don't want to watch it on TV all  the time.  Put it in a book.  If I want to read it, I can.  Let's leave a bit of mystery surrounding the birds and the bees for the kids to learn in their teen years.  It used to be fun to be a kid.

I wonder if all of this is partly why the Mrs is such a crabby person.  It's possible, because it's making me rather crabby and I'm not 95!  I grew up in the 40's and 50's, and I will forever be thankful for that.

I have a photo to share this morning.  Can you figure out  what it is?

This morning I have an appointment at the nail salon, then later this afternoon, I have to pick my granddaughter and her friend up after school.  I think the rehearsals for the school play started this week.  I'm counting my blessings folks.  At least my grandchildren are enjoying learning and having good clean fun.  They carry books in their school bags.  Not guns.

Now it's time for another cup of coffee while I catch up on a bit of blog reading.  Till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Morning, the photo looks like Ice to me! :)
Been offline for a couple days, trying to play catch up. Love the bird photos too! I thank you for the freebies as well, I see over at Su's that Pogo (in disguise) is playing a guitar for her. So cute!
My sister is out of ICU and in a regular room and will probably be followed up in a rehab facility for wound care.
My boss is back from India and we had a lot to catch up on yesterday!
Neighbor moved and I helped her some, the owners of her side of this duplex are now redecorating the place so their son can move in this next weekend.
It has been a real whirlwind around here, now am glad things are trying to get to normal again!
LOL! Have a great day! Hugs, Mat

I hear you loud and clear ... I was right there with you in the 40's and
50's and I can remember, as a kid, thinking how lucky I was to have been born in America. Even my kids, who grew up in the 70's and
80's had it pretty good, though we parents all thought the times were a changin' and not for the better. But, what I am seeing and hearing today is frightening. People claiming they need guns to protect themselves against their own government ... are they nuts? The Greed and the Violence that is running rampent, not only in our country, but all over the world ... I think the end is near for those reasons and many others ... like the total disrespect of our earth, of nature and each other. Oh my ... I didn't want to start my day this way, but we can't get away from it. I go to bed worrying about the world my kids and Granddaughter will have to deal with. There is still a lot of good around, but I have to say it is no longer the majority ... we have allowed the extremes to be the rule ... shame of us.

So, it is raining, thundering and cold here and I have to drive my daughter downtown (Chicago) for a dentist appointment ... so maybe that is why I am crabby. I am still tired from the weekend too ... man, I haven't done that much running in a long time. I need to get back in shape. But, it was fun, I have to say. Even Izzi was a little out of sorts yesterday. I am sure she has some achy muscles as well. But, at her age, she will snap back a lot faster than me. So, I am off to do some picking up and then get dressed to go. Hopefully
this cold weather will play itseld out before it gets to you ... the rain I don't mind because we need it badly. By the way, just for laughs ... I had a wild Turkey eating at my ground feeder in the back yesterday ... that's a first. I did take pictures but it was pouring rain so the windows weren't clear enough to get a good shot ... fun, huh? Well, you have a good day, Edna and loves to the Pogo ...

P.S. I don't know for sure what is in your picture, but it looks like something I could eat and enjoy. Of course clouds and snow banks look like marshmellows to me, so what do I know. Anyway, cool picture and I will be waiting to here what it is ... and if it is eatable I want the recipe:)

Edna you and I are on the same page in regards to the happenings in our world.

Everyday we hear of some shooting in the US, like we heard this morning 2 4 year olds got their hands on guns, one shot a 6year old in the head and the other shot and killed a deputy sheriffs wife. Obviously the gun lobby is more powerful than your President.

I also don't know what your photo is of.....to me it looks like ice cubes.

We are having great weather here too.....the temps are way above average for this time of year. I'm just hoping we have a mild Winter.

I better go and get myself ready to face the day.....looks like housework for me today.

You have a great one.

I too read on the news teletexte some things about "accidents"at schools. I just simply cannot understand how shootings ( and there was a knife stabbing too) are looking to be almost a "normal"thing to happen. Having a gun for protection, well, I am not in favour but can understand that it can be necessary. But at least keep it in a safe place, where your children cannot take it from.
But more concern even is that also adults just get winded up and go to a school or shopping centre and just start shooting around. No, the world isn;t getting any nicer this way.
I grew up in the 50's and 60's, of course not all was good, but at least we didn;t hear every week about shootings at children in schools or busses.
Glad your grandchildren life life in the good way!
Hugs
