Sandy Is Winding Down Here

October 30, 2012

Good morning.  Wow, the yard looks like a war zone, but we came through this storm just fine.  There is all sorts of debris scattered about the yard, some from the trees, and some from "who knows where".  Part of our town lost power for a while yesterday, but it was not storm related.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed though, because it could still happen.  Almost nine million folks are still without power.

We'll still be getting lots of rain showers through Friday, but as long as they stay showers, we'll do fine as far as flooding is concerned.  We must have angels watching over us because there was just so much flooding up and down the whole coast.   Can you imagine what it will take to clean the water and debris from the subway tunnels?  And then of course, there's all the damage to the electrical components in the tunnels?  Oh my.

I've had the Weather channel on non-stop, and I just can't believe how widespread the storm damage is.  In my lifetime, there has never been any such storm.  In Atlantic City, (according to their mayor) there were 16 deaths.  I will keep watching to see if this figure is correct.  It could be that these were folks who would not leave their homes.  I would find it hard to leave my home, but oh what a price to pay.

Last night when I took Pogo out for his sprinkle, I was so delighted to see the moon.  There were soft light colored clouds traveling at a pretty good clip, and there was that big ole beautiful moon.  For some reason, I slept well after that.

I stumbled across a beautiful photography blog yesterday.  Karen at "Pieces Of Contentment" has some wonderful macro photography.  I emailed her with an inquiry about which lens she uses.  She replied that she uses the Raynox Macro Conversion Lens DCR-250.  I did a bit of research online, and finally ordered me one from Amazon.  I have high hopes of getting some great macro shots.

Kyra, you are right.  Yes, they are carnations.  Thank you.  Some days my brains get just a tad bit scrambled.  (did I actually say "tad bit"?  I should have said "usually".)   I just took a moment to go out and get the mail, and would you believe the sun is shining!!  Oh happy day.

I have a photo to share that I took a few days ago at work.  I was looking out the patio doors and saw this little fellow.  Of course I had to take a photo.  He's just so cute.

Before I leave you, I want to share something funny that I saw in this week's TV Guide.  Encore station had a movie scheduled for 8 pm last night.  It was Stephen King's "Storm Of The Century".  What a coincidence.  I also want to thank all of you for your wonderful thoughts and prayers for our safety.  It's so nice to know that you are there.

Ah well, now it's  time to think about making some lunch.  Pogo  wasn't too thrilled with his doggie breakfast food, so I'll have to find something a bit tastier.  Till tomorrow, Y'all stay safe if you're anywhere near this monster storm.

Hugs, Edna B.

Edna, I'm so happy to see your post and hear that all is good, save for some debris. I'm glad you saw the moon and that gave your some sleep last night too! We've had steady nasty win and rain overnight and a gray windy day with hit and miss rain today. You give me hope that we'll get some relief from the clouds eventually too! I've heard from David's brothers and their families in Connecticut and NYC have reported in safe, but in the dark as have several friends in the area. This has been a big worry and gather info day for me.

End of my comment, end of your blog; I love that chipmunk photo! They are second only to the squirrels in my backyard heart and I'm reminded that I'm hungry myself. Related to Pogo's lunch, not the chipmunk! ;)

Hugs, Nani

I have been on the fly today again, but I did check to see if you had posted before I left. No, you weren't there, so I can't tell you how happy I was to find your smiling face and good news on your post tonight. You are indeed lucky because from what our news is showing it was a horrific storm. Not in my lifetime either, Edna. I can't even imagine what the people are going through. I hope they are counting their blessing that they are still here to see the aftermath. Chicago got a pretty good lashing from Lake Michigan ... then on the news there were actually people out surfing on the lake. Sometimes people's stupidity amazes me.

You little chipmunk is adorable. We have them all around our house ... Izzi loves chasing them, though they always manage to escape. I am going to have to look into your new lens ... I have a hard time getting good macro's because I can't hold the camera steady enough. But, that doesn't stop me from trying.

Once again ... glad to hear from you ... glad you are safe and well. Look forward to another day.

I was so happy to see your post and read you are all okay!!
Saw the news yesterday about the storm and the big damages in other areas!
Hopefully the biggest force of Sandy is over now.

Love the chipmunk!
Have a safe day.

So happy you were spared all the destruction! So many did not! It is so sad to see all of it on TV! Just cannot imagine what it will take to clean up and start over!
Love the chipmunk photo, he is so very cute. Also, love the rain photo and the Mrs flowers. Hope your weather is soon under control as I wish it for all that are still suffering from its affects. West Virginia especially with all that snow when it melts...! Until next time, hugs for you and Pogo! Mat
