Trash Can Surprise

August 8, 2012

Good morning.  I'm at work and can't wait for the next hour and a half to go by so that I can head on home to my little guy.  I will be off till next Sunday night, so it will feel like a mini vacation.   Right about now, I think I could use a vacation.  March, when I usually get away, is such a long way off.  At least it feels that way at the moment.

Folks, I was going to post something that I found on someone's blog that I happened on to, but instead I will post the link to that blog and you can go read the post yourself.  It's such a heart-breaker!  I wonder why some folks can be so unfeeling and cruel.  Here's the link.  Please do give it a read.

Yesterday, Dee Dee and Jasmine were by for a visit and brought Sassy along to play with Pogo.  Oh my, this little fellow was beside himself with joy!  He likes other dogs, but his favorite are girl dogs!  Gosh, I wonder why.  Here's a photo of the two of them.

Sassy is giving Pogo a piece of her mind, and he's looking a bit perplexed.   In the end, they both decided to just be friends and left their little "pee" spots on the rug.  What is it with animals that they have to piddle everywhere they go?  I'm surely glad that my human friends don't do this or I would have to ask them not to visit any more.

I also have another cute photo to share.  Dee Dee went to put some trash out a couple of mornings ago, and found quite a surprise inside her trash can.

All curled up and playing dead inside the bottom of the trash can was a possum.  It was possibly looking for food to take back to some little ones.  'Tis the season!    After taking a couple of photos, the little possom was let go to hurry on home to it's family.

Today is Photo Art Friday, but that will have to wait until tomorrow.  I just did not have a chance to work on my new piece of art.  I did spend a bit of time online last night looking up the differences between Aspirn, Advil, Motrin, Tylenol, Excedrin and Aleve.  For migraine headaches, I like Excedrin Migraine, but it's been off the store shelves for quite a long time.  I never did find out why it was taken off the shelf but you can still buy it online.

I was trying to find a substitute for migraine relief that can be bought over the counter.  Here's something interesting that I learned.  Excedrin is acetaminophen, aspirin and caffeine.  Excedrin's Brand names are:  Anacin Advanced Headache Formula, Excedrin, Genacer, Goody's Extra Strength, Goody's headache Powders and Pain Reliever Plus.  Hmmmmm.

Dee Dee brought me such a great gift.  A large bottle of Cayenne Pepper!  I have looked everywhere for this stuff, and no one seems to have it on their shelves.  I'm not sure why, but I keep looking.  Now that I know where Dee Dee found it, I shall visit that store and stock up on the stuff.  This is a fabulous way to discourage the critters from eating my plants and bulbs, and not hurt the critters.

Last year, I spent a lot of money on new plants and bulbs, and lost most all of this to the critters this year.  Now I will be sprinkling the cayenne pepper all around my plants and any new bulbs that we put in this year.  This needs to be done often, like after each rain,  etc.  But I think it is worth it.

Out of fifty new bulbs, only one got to bloom.  And WOW!  Did it ever bloom!  The plant did not get very tall, maybe only about a foot high.  But the blossom is HUGE.  It is at least nine inches across .  Such a beauty!

Imagine if some of the other bulbs had grown like this one?  Impressive!  Oh well, I'll never know because the critters ate all of them.  I will have to take some photos of the blossoming cherry tree that we planted because it has doubled in size.  It did not blossom this year, so I'm hoping that it will blossom next Spring.

Well, it's time for me to get busy here.  I need to check on the Mrs, and then pack up my stuff.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

The possum is sweet. I have a soft spot for them because we used to have a couple that visited with the raccoons at our old Raccoon Cafe in Michigan.

I'm going to try the cayenne pepper around my plants. That is something I can do without help. Maybe er can try a couple of veggie pants again next year.
