What a beautiful day today. Even though we have rain coming, it's still nice. This is the first year in a long time that we actually had really nice Spring weather during the Spring season, and it is such a treat.
Today, I want to share with you some pictures of my extraordinary tree. Some years ago, I saw an ad for a large, beautiful lush tree. It had a normal sized trunk, and was full with lush leaves and big purple flowers. The ad said that the tree would grow as high as a one story house in it's first year, and that it would have gorgeous blooms. Of course, I sent for the tree, and when it arrived, I planted it with such pride.
Several times during it's first two years, people either drove over it, stomped on it, or tried to pull it up with the weeds. I finally had to put a little wire fence around it to save it's tiny life. The next few years my tree did grow taller, although it was only as big around as a stick. Eventually, it sprouted a few large leaves. Not many, but a few.
This year, I decided that we would cut the tree down to make way for one of my Red Japanese Maple seedling trees. However, as I was getting into my car the other day to go to work, I looked up and lo and behold to my huge surprise --- YUP!!! my tree was covered with lots of purple blossoms. It's still a stick, and it has no leaves yet, but it sure does have purple flowers.
Actually, there are a few little green stubbies starting that will be leaves pretty soon.
My tree doesn't look anything like it did in the newspaper ad, but now I cannot in good conscience cut it down. So it will live on. Now for some photos to show you what I am talking about. This is my tree -- the stick trunk in front of the big green tree.
And here is a close up of the blossoms on it.
That's it for today. Now for your freebie - Part 2 of "Tropical Breeze."
